Good Morning,
I can’t believe that it is October 4th already. There are so many wonderful things happening in our sport. The first round of Breeders’ Cup prep races are now in the books and the balance of them will take place this weekend. It is really getting exciting now!
I am doing MY very best to keep up with all of the racing activity around the country as well as my own duties and responsibilities as an “OFFICIAL HOSTESS FOR THE BREEDERS’ CUP. I actually have a ‘CALENDAR’ which keeps track of all of the appointments I have
with sports writers who are doing articles and promotion for our SPORT! Needless to say, I am very happy to help.
People are really getting excited about MY PARTY. Leonard, who is working with Dottie on all of this, said that people from 26 different states and Canada have already purchased tickets. This is fabulous! Also, today is the first day that Breeders’ Cup will be going public with the ticket announcement. How much FUN is this! My Team is really getting excited!
Amidst all of my other activities, I also want to keep up with my philanthropic work. I am pleased to say that a visit with ME was recently auctioned off at the Crystal Boots and Silver Spurs Event—to benefit MS. The final bid was $6,219. I am so, so pleased that I am able to help raise money for this special charity!
Yesterday, I met with Anna Ford and we are planning an activity for NEW VOCATIONS which is a horse adoption charity. Then on October 17, The RIDING FOR HOPE AUCTION winner will be coming for a visit. LUCKY ME! I really feel so proud that I can do my part to help.
It is also important for ME to keep in touch with MY FAMILY. “E” is training nicely at BARN 55 and getting into a regular routine. She has breezed 3/8ths a few times and is moving forward. MIKIE always stops by to visit her…and I know that MY JOHN and Mario give her HUGS from ME all of the time. I’d know those ‘ears’ anywhere. I guess they run in the family!
Hmmm! Wonder if BABY Z / B’s ears will look like mine? I hope so!
Have a terrific Tuesday!
With Love,
Hugs to All~
Z
Come to my party!
Sally B.
The second this picture came up I said “E” really resembles you Z!! Your ears of course are one of the reasons, besides looking so pretty. I hope baby z gets your ears. Now, dear sweet mama, make sure you don’t over task yourself. What you do is wonderful, but you, baby z and Dottie are so important and loved. (I think I’m sounding like my mama the older I get!Oh no! haha I’m getting excited about your party. love you with 2 kisses on your soft nose, one for baby z

@Anne from Paramount–PS: Looking forward so much to seeing you Saturday!

@Barbara Wood; So sorry to hear of such devastation happening again in Texas. I certainly will have all in my prayers.
@Denise in AZ; your heart must feel so good after rescuing the mare & foal. High hoofs. May the right job come along for your husband soon.
Germaine
Dottie, how come there isn’t a 2012 Zenyatta calendar? How cool would that be!
harriett
Dear Zenny,
I would love nothing better than to attend your party, meet your Team, and help a wonderful cause, but my health prevents me from travel right now. I will be with you all in spirit.
Jan
I don’t think the Moss’s own E..
stephanie (s in san diego)
Z your baby sister does have your ears:)) Too Cute. Other then your size, I think she has a very different build then you. Although I hope she has your wonderful attitude,mind and heart. She is a beauty…and I can’t wait to see her debut. (when your Dear John says its time)
M2 & Little Bit & Ready Lady @ Little Bit Ranch
She is stunning! Great photo.
@Darlene – I thought the same thing about Z/B being a name candidate. Thinking, thinking….:)

@Jan
Eric Kronfeld, who bred Zenny, owns “E”. He sold “V” pregnant (Bernardini) with “E” for 10 million to Coolmore with the agreement that he would keep the foal.
stephanie (s in san diego)
And…he also gets V back when she is retired as a broodmare. I love that.
signofthetimes
@Jan
“E” is owned by Zenny’s breeder, Eric Kronfeld. He sold “V” Zenny’s mom pregnant by Bernardini to Coolmore for 10 million dollars and as part of the agreement he was to keep the foal, which is “E” and she will be part of his broodmare band when she is done racing.
signofthetimes
@Stephanie
Ah, yes how wonderful, “V” will be laid to rest at Winter Farms along side her dam. So very much a family. Of course she is only about 18 or 19 so she has a few more years to produce and she
is still prolific. What a wonderful mare she is.
signofthetimes
@Catarina
“E” definately has Bernie’s head and her size has been tempered by Bernie’s size as well so she is not as long as “Z” and as large as Z, but still seems to have those large hips, all the better to push of and accelerate, with “my dear”. Probably her size has allowed her to be more precosious than Z and Bernie does have precosity in his pedigree. AP Indy raced as a 2 year old. I think Seattle Slew and Secretariate both raced at 2 as well. She probably won’t start until 3 but hopefully before November 2012.

Oh! my goodness! “E” looks so beautiful like you! Thanks for sharing her picture. You’re right Mikie and “E” look fabulous. He got a big smile. I love you Queen Z.

The L.A.Times Bill Dwyre’s column today, talks about the “near perfect” weekend at Santa Anita, which also unfortunately included the breakdown of Craig Lewis’ 2-yr. old “Mudville Nine”, ridden by Joe Talamo. http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-1004-dwyre-20111004,0,2876333.column

“E” looks great in this picture with our Mikey. I love that she has The Queen’s ears and onion rump…In one of Mr. Shirreff’s videos he refers to her as Sante…..makes me wonder if that is her “name” with her connections….
@Zenyatta- Your light continues to shine….I love you!
@Terry Crow miss you & your jokes today.
@DJ- miss you & your prayers today…
@Lisa g. -miss you… worried…

You are one busy girl! Everyone appreciates all that you and your team do to help our sport and those in need!

I love the picture of Eblouissante! I especially like the big GRIN on Mike’s face! I’m sure he is so looking forward to the day when John decides she is ready to race. They will do what’s best for her. She is looking beautiful! And yes those ears do run in your family and I’m sure your baby will have the same ones!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Have a wonderful day Zenyatta and baby “Z”! xoxoxo
I’m still not over that wonderful photo on the previous diary–Zenny and Tasty munching blue grass together. That’s a keeper. Now today I see one of the most gorgeous animals I have ever seen–Ebby–so so beautiful in every way.
Somehow, I still cannot totally go with the transition from Zenyatta the great athlete to Zenyatta the brood mare…I think Zenny’s star is way up in the heavens and wish she would have had a year off from motherhood…but, I guess the Mosses know best.
Quick news about http://www.equi-army-ndo.com. We have attended the International Equine Conference in Alexandria VA and in a week or two we will also attend the NTRA Professional Education Seminar at Keeneland where lectures on aftercare particularly interest us.
We are almost 6 weeks old and are now organizing and aligning our officers and members. Our first priority will be to focus on the boatload of ills within racing–focusing on the smaller tracks where horses are routinely sent to kill buyers. We’re also working on the Jockey Club situation, and much more. Our team is so wonderful, so ready to work to help our horses in any way. We would so appreciate and welcome more dumplings to our organization so that we can have more eyes and ears to help win victories. We are also still working with emergency rescues–publicizing them, sending them out via email and FB as well. And our last focus is to publish and maintain a current list of rescue groups by state on our website. We are about to proof our list and need your review of it BEFORE I post it on our site–would you please help us with this by reviewing our list and giving us the benefit of your experience and knowledge of these groups in your own state? Please leave a message for me on the site: http://www.equi-army-ndo.com. Thank you, and sleep a sweet sleep, beloved Zenyatta. The more I see you and “read” you, the more I love you. I cannot be at your party but the first prize is something we all would gladly walk many miles for! I hope that party is a huge success and you make lots of money for your charities. What a sweet baby you are!
Love
@Kari Bussell- Excellent observation! Yes, maybe E’s “call name” is Sante (“a” like “ah,” and a silent “e” at the end).
Vicki B.
Like the nickname “Ebby Lou” for Eblouissante, funny, and easier to pronounce. But she’s so famous already, unrun, “Ebby” will do, or even EB.
Helen (Michigan)
Zenny, That photo did it. John, seeing Mike on E’s back prompts me to rejoin you all, however sporadically, after a three month absence. The reason was tragic. We lost our younger son on Ann Moss’ birthday- Jul 14. Both our sons died suddenly in the prime of their lives and my husband and I just had to regroup and adjust to being childless.
Zenyatta, Dottie, John, Ann, Jerry, Mike, Team Z and ALL of YOU have provided me with a place in the world to smile again and it really feels good. LET THE HEALING BEGIN!!!
@Karen Gogue: Thanks for your touching message after Ian’s death. I put it in his memory book.
@Terry Crow: Keep those jokes coming!
@Judy Benrube: I take every hug you dish out and then some!
@Z Lovers one and all: You help me every day. Thank you.
@Helen (Michigan), my prayers are with you. I hope you and your husband continue to find peace and comfort in your lives. Zenny does seem to bring hope and joy to all who experience her…even if it is from afar. May you find both in this little diary.
Wow! She looks awesome here. I noticed she keeps her head the same way you did when concentrating on your walk to the track, when not posing of course. :)
Lots going on for you and money still pouring in. Just shows how much you are still respected in racing. That in itself is quite an honor.
I am going to the Keeneland opening weekend of racing, while passing by Lanes End we will yell out a big “hi” to you and my buddy Steven Got Even (I knew his mama).
Enjoy your day.
LauraJ
@signofthetimes, not only did Secretariat race as a 2-year-old, he was Horse of the Year. His main rival for HotY honors was another 2-year-old, the filly La Prevoyante. Seattle Slew also raced as a juvenile and won the Eclipse Award for 2-year-old male. In the Champagne Stakes, he set a record for the mile for a 2-year-old, under a hand ride.
Linda M
I hope Mikey will give us a webcam ride on E to compare with our ride on Queen Z. ;-)
Joyce Groth
Loved the photo. Thanks for all the news. Love to you Z and z.
@Helen in Michigan: I am so sorry for your losses. I truly can’t imagine. Zenyatta is a shining light and this is a healing place, so welcome back <3
Terry Crow
Catching up on the posts. @Susan in TN-I was absent from the blog yesterday because I was at the hospital waiting for the results of the surgery being performed on my friend Don. It was supposed to be about three hours, turned out to be almost six. When I left late last night, he was still not out of the woods. I guess it takes longer for us geezers to recover. @Rosemary McCauley-Glad you enjoyed the joke of October 3. @Debbie G-I couldn’t make fun of my own people. I laugh with them, not at them. @Cynthia H-You have told some powerful tales. It makes your getting out to see that 1977 race with J.O. Tobin all that much more impressive. @signofthetimes-That pick would advance me to the Carter administration. @Kimberly Potter-THank you. Hope everything continues to go well on the baby front. Duct tape on diapers, though. I’m not sure about that. @Kari Bussell-THank you. Any post from you is a delight. @Helen (Michigan)-Glad you are enjoying the hokes. Hoe many rednecks are there in Michigan? @Susan in TN and Kari Bussell–You might be a redneck if you have a color coordinated rope that you use to tie down the hood of your car. You might be a redneck if one of the options on your truck is a spittoon. You might be a redneck if you leave moonshine for Santa. You might be a redneck if your grandma dies and wills you season tickets to the WWE. Will post a joke later as I am still somewhat recovering from yesterday. I will leave you all with an observation–If you believe in creation as explained in the Bible, then Adam and Eve’s children would have had to have sex with each other to populate the earth. This surely is proof that Alabama was at one time the Garden of Eden.
Susan in TN
@Denise in Arizona: Bless you for taking in the Paint mare and foal! Hooves crossed for your husband’s prospects <3
I can't remember how to access your photos but would love to see them!
