Happy Friday, Everyone!
Suddenly it has become a bit chilly in Lexington. I need to have MY cozy blanket on for my early morning grazing fun with Matt! It is pretty out, though! The fall leaves will start to change soon…and the added color will really make the trees look amazing! This is MY first ‘fall’ in this regard for many years. In California, the seasons do not change as prominently as they do in Kentucky!
I am so pleased that YOU really like the idea of MY PARTY. So many fans have already responded and purchased tickets. If you have done so already…you are definitely in the first 500…so do not worry. The computer people are getting this refined for you so the people purchasing tickets in the future will know this information right away. This should all be completed today. Thank you for your patience!
I am also so excited about the incredible weekend of racing we are all going to be able to enjoy. From the East Coast to West Coast, it is one contentious stakes race after another with so many of the results having Breeders’ Cup ramifications. I love the fact that Havre de Grace and Blind Luck are each performing at such a high level. Their races are going to be so exciting! (I have a special fondness for the LADY’S SECRET which runs this weekend.) Then to see all of the other possibilities…whether turf or dirt for so many other terrific horses…will make handicapping GREAT FUN this weekend!
I can’t wait!
All the best to each of the horses competing during the next few days! All of my pals at Lane’s End and I will be watching!
With Love,
Hugs to All~
Z
Trina Nagele
Good morning, Queen Z, hope you enjoy the day.
@Marilu V—In August you posted that your 65th birthday was coming up in September, and you asked “Where did the years go?” Well, we never learned which day was the day, but I want to share the poem I prepared, and a little prologue.

Prologue to a Birthday Poem for Marilu V.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In August you related
Your 65th birthday in September would come,
So we all waited
For you to say
“Today’s the day,”
But since that wasn’t done,
We all still hope
You were having fun!
A Birthday Poem for Marilu V. from a
Z-ster who reached 65 a couple years ago:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I hope you’re enjoying being alive,
Dear Marilu,
As you now turn sixty-five!
You say the years flew,
And I believe you, I do,
Yes, I know that it’s true:
Though young ones may have no clue,
As each year passes,
Time seems to flow
Faster,
Like Zenyatta herself would go
Charging to each race’s finish!
Nor does one’s joy diminish–
This September
You’ll remember
How it was so glorious
When you saw Z and Harmonious
Grazing on Barn 55’s green
Shaded by their own tree.
That day you were one of just three
There to visit the Queen
In the clear morning light.
’Twas such a beautiful scene
And a delight
That you’ll never forget,
A special opportunity
Your beloved Zenyatta to see
And even to pet.
To you it has meant so much
To be able to touch
The greatness that is Z.
That memory with you
Forever will stay!
And to celebrate today
And share joy in being alive,
Will you go for a drive
Taking along your dog Eddie?
For a ride he’s always ready—
In the car that darling beagle
Feels just like an eagle
And totally regal
When he lifts his snout
And sticks his head out.
He feels he has wings,
And his little heart sings
As the breeze lovingly flings
Those long ears back from his head.
Now to you, dear Marilu,
As you reflect on the good life you’ve led
And still more of life’s pleasures pursue,
We say
Happy Birthday!
And may all your wishes come true!

Dear Signofthetimes:
Well, that’s in his favor (l 1/16 miles) and also, I think he had good work outs in the slop at Churchill? Did he ever run on an off track? Can’t remember. Hugs, JB

@ Karen gouge and Z dumplings
Thanks so much for the musical B-day card.
How very thoughtful. I am still trying to work
a miracle to come to SA Oct 8. There is always
Hope.

@ Judy B
All I recall is Belmont, he does like a fast track.
Maybe it will dry up before the end of the day.
So glad Russ is enjoying the jokes.

Dear Signofthetimes:
Thanks for all the great links. Cara Rafaela is gorgeous. She had a decent race record and did you read the part where Darley purchased her while she was carrying Bernardini. Wow, how lucky can you get. Can you imagine how the people who sold her (TNT Stud) must be kicking themselves. Hugs, JB

Dear Signofthetimes:
Let’s hope the track drys up by the time the race runs. Hugs, JB

Dear Vicki B.:
Beautiful tribute to Oreo. All of us, I think, have had that same special bond with our dogs. Thank you. Hugs, JB

Dear Jan:
I have Indian Tale in my Virtual Stable at Equibase and am on notification of her works and entries. R. Dutrow still has her, but has scratched her two times now in September. Last race was 8/18/11 at Saratoga when she ran last and was walked off (he had raced her 4 times in 11 days in August). She’s had two works 9/11/11 and 9/30/11. So, hopefully, he’s being careful with her. I think he realizes fans who love horses are keeping track of her. Hugs, JB

@Trina Nagele – You are impressively the poet-laureate of this site, although of course, Zenyatta is the true poetry-in-motion, throughout her life — a given!
Barbara Wood
@Trina Nagele–lovely poem. Thank you! Happy belated birthday, Marilu V.
@Kathy Kimber–there is a website (I’m pretty sure you already know about it) that lists where all the famous horses are buried.It is http://www.tbheritage.com under the heading “Grave Matters”.

@Judy B
Yes, I bet TNT Stud is a little upset. I bet Shiek
Mohamed made and offer that they could not
Refuse.
What a gamble and he sure got a real winner in
Bernie; seems like he is picking up where his Dad
Left off. She is very beautiful and look fairly stocky
For A mare.

I don’t travel much, but started fantasizing about going to the BC for Zenny’s party. But after looking at flights from L.A., hotels, BC Tickets, etc., when I realized the total would be considerably upwards of $1k, I thought well, I’ll be watching it on TV.

@Kari Bussell – Thanks for the link, more tears from my eyes, just watching Z win the Ladies Secret again.

@signofthetimes-Zasu looks good but it will be tough to beat Blind Luck. I have no rooting interest in JCG so I hope your horse wins. @Cynthia H-Time will be the healer. Bless you. @Barbara Wood and Judy Berube-Thank you. I was somewhat worried about that one. I would like everyone to know that I would never intentionally offend anyone. Glad Russ got a laugh out of it. Obviously a very discerning man when it comes to humor. @LauraJ-Precionist was one of my favorites when he ran out here in California. Speed to spare, Breeder’s Cup winner, never ran a bad race. @Kim S-Hope Victor finds a new friend. @Vicki B-You are correct, we are constantly recruiting new members. Funny, but there has not been an overwhelming desire to be known as a redneck. Thank of all the fun the non-members are missing out on. @Kari Bussell-It is great to see you posting. We have missed you here. Trina does make us feel special with her poems, but you ARE special. Glad you are continuing to enjoy the jokes. If Susan in Tn ever decides to step down as President of the Redneck Club, you, as president pro tem, step into the role.. One football note-Will you take Lane Kiffin back? @Kari Bussell and Susan in TN-Ypou might be a redneck if your high school annual is now a mug shot book for the police department. You might be a redneck if there are more than five MCdonald’s bags currently on the floorboards of your car. You might be a redneck if your wife’s hairdo attract bees. Bonus Jedi redneck joke–You might be a redneck Jedi if a Wookie tells you that you need a haircut. I will post a joke later, but here is a contribution from Diana S, who is too modest to take the credit. Diana, this could apply to a man of any marrying age.–An elderly man is stopped by the police around two a.m., and is asked what he is doing at that time of night. The man replies “I am on my way to a lecture about alcohol abuse, and the effect it has on the human body, as well as smoking and staying out late.” The officer then asks “Really? Who is giving this lecture at this time of night?” The man replies “That would be my wife.”

Eclipse at stake for him. Flatout is a talent.

@ Judy B – Great video of Berni, I think I detect an Aussie accent so maybe the video was made by Darley Australia. If Zenny’s baby is a dancer we’ll all know where the dancing comes from. Berni, in a very English saying “puts his feet down like ready money”.
@ Terry C – Another laugh out loud joke and Diana’s too, but I know she has a wicked sense of humor.
@ Trina – The Poet laureate, you done it again, another masterpiece. You really should put a birthday book together.
