Happy Friday, Everyone!
Suddenly it has become a bit chilly in Lexington. I need to have MY cozy blanket on for my early morning grazing fun with Matt! It is pretty out, though! The fall leaves will start to change soon…and the added color will really make the trees look amazing! This is MY first ‘fall’ in this regard for many years. In California, the seasons do not change as prominently as they do in Kentucky!
I am so pleased that YOU really like the idea of MY PARTY. So many fans have already responded and purchased tickets. If you have done so already…you are definitely in the first 500…so do not worry. The computer people are getting this refined for you so the people purchasing tickets in the future will know this information right away. This should all be completed today. Thank you for your patience!
I am also so excited about the incredible weekend of racing we are all going to be able to enjoy. From the East Coast to West Coast, it is one contentious stakes race after another with so many of the results having Breeders’ Cup ramifications. I love the fact that Havre de Grace and Blind Luck are each performing at such a high level. Their races are going to be so exciting! (I have a special fondness for the LADY’S SECRET which runs this weekend.) Then to see all of the other possibilities…whether turf or dirt for so many other terrific horses…will make handicapping GREAT FUN this weekend!
I can’t wait!
All the best to each of the horses competing during the next few days! All of my pals at Lane’s End and I will be watching!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Yes, it was a slight slow down, down the stretch at the rail.
Just could not get his speed back. He may only be a one dimensional one gear horse and they have to get the perfect
trip; Not sure if any of those skills, speeding up and slowing down can be taught or if they are just innate. Not sure if the trainers watch them run and let them figure out their styles or teach them these things. Maybe those with more experience with race horse training. Some of it is innate and bred though.

Here is a link to Danedream’s win today in the Arc. Second and third places also went to fillies. Great day for fillies. Danedream’s pedigree includes both Danzig and the great Nijinsky. She did what Nijinsky could not. This is a great win for her and her equine family.

It would be a good idea to keep in mind LE has been barraged by
90,000 fans by phone, e-mail etc….. to deal with this Zenyatta visiting thing for almost a year. I am sure it is hard to keep on a happy face when this has been happening and people just don’t get the fact that things have changed for Zenny. They have been entrusted with Zenny, who had a 24 hour personal watch at Barn 55 with a webcam in The Mosses home, her safety, her sucessful breeding and a foal that grows up to be a race horse. Lots can happen during these processes and they have the right to be protected as The Mosses have entrusted their cherished mare with them.

@Max – Thanks for the Arc link, what a race!

Here is Goldi’s race today. Valient effort on her part. Sure hope he still brings her here to defend her title in BC Mile. The competition will be more to her liking an she love Churchill Downs Turf Course.

Great race by Cape Blanco; a tenacious Euro colt with a US running style. End of the race is quite exciting.

I have a question about some terminology. Could someone give an explanation for,”turn of foot”. I’ve seen it used quite a bit recently. Is it something a horse just naturally has? Can it be aided by the type shoe they wear? Was Zenyatta characterized as having a turn of foot when she raced? I appreciate all the answers that are given to my “rookie” questions. Thank you.

@ Kari Bussell~ Thank you for sharing the link again for the Lady’s Secret….”Just another perfect day for the Queen…Zenyatta”
@Judy Berube~ Bernardini is one handsome boy, thanks for the link. I love Shack too….He wants a mile.
@Terry Crow~ I might be a redneck if we (I) once used duct tape to make a high chair for my 11 mo old grandson out of a chair and a rubber made lid at Thanksgiving. Am I in?
@All~ Thanks for all the great posts and links…

Mike Smith 3rd on Stately Victor in a Gr. 3 race at Woodbine. Not a nice day here in Ontario, damp and cold.

@Sue Fredrick–thanks for calling out the “snarky” one’s comments. That is one of my favorite words–so rarely used, and so often called for!
@Trina Nagele– I’m running out of adjectives to describe you! Amazing poems!

After Beldame, Todd Pletcher said ‘Life At Ten had run her last race. He also said she trained better than both Uncle Mo and Stay Thirsty. She’s a beautiful, talented girl. Hope things work out for her.

It’s a good thing I did my chores early in the day on Saturday. I was glued to the TV watching an incredible day of racing. Great Day for Uncle Moe and Havre but Blind Luck gave me a scare. I’m glad she’s resting for the rest of the year. The BC should be exciting with Moe and Havre going at it. As much as I adore Moe, I’ll be cheering for THE GIRL. I’m sure you will too my Queen. P.S. It’s cold here in NC too. My little miniature pinscher has his heavy sweater on.

Newbie, Bernie’s daughter won the 10th race at Belmont. She ran a bit of a Zenny type race.

@Kimberly Potter – LoL, I’m trying to picture how the Rubbermaid lid would make the high chair work. We used to use a big phone book. I certainly can’t speak for Terry, but personally, I think you easily qualify.

@Marty R
Marty, “turn of foot” means the horse’s ability to accelerate quickly. Sort of like if you’re driving a car on the highway and you need to accelerate, around someone, how some cars can do this quickly and some take a few minutes to get chugging.
.Some horses take a few strides to really get rolling and a horse can lose a chance at a hole between horses if they can’t quickly accelerate through it. Zenyatta did not have an exceptional turn of foot but she did have a high cruising speed, meaning that when she did get up to speed it was nearly impossible to keep up with her.
Vicki B.
@Suzanne G – With ‘Life At Ten’ training so well, it’s interesting she wasn’t performing as well in actual races, I wonder why? I would think she might be unhappy racing, but don’t know enough about her (or horses) to say. With last year’s BCLC, TP thought she “had severe cramps.”
J Smith
Suzanne G. I don’t know a whole lot about claiming rules, this is my understanding, if it’s a straight up claiming race, without restrictions, if you put your claim in before the race, you can claim the horse. Hopefully Judy Berube looked it up and answered, I didn’t have time to read all posts, luckily I just happended to see yours. I was planning to email Parx and bring to their attention that Indian Tale was a vets scratch last week. I wonder if a lot of people did email Laurel Park and that’s why the vet took a real good look at her and scratced her. If enough people email Parx alterting them to her being over run, they will hopefully take notice too. I haven’t had time to read a lot of comments lately, but feel free to email me Suzanne, if you have Indian Tale news. once2000@gmail.com

Dear Debby G. DO NOT let doing things alone stop you from doing things. I used to go to the race track alone, and actully liked it as I like to see the horses in the paddock, then stand by the finish line, if you take someone who isn’t a horse lover with you, they start gripping about all the running around. Now when I go to the track, I know loads of people, just from going alone. If I had been with someone I never would have spoken to all these other people. For instance, yesterday, I saw, Judy (JAG), Nancy, Robyn, Anne from Paramount, Jane, missed Karen G, but they saw her, and guess where they all are to be found? Yes, in the paddock admiring the beauty of each horse, and, by the winning post! Also enjoyed a leisurly dinner with Judy after the races (leisurly because we were too tired to drive and Coco’s had to throw us out as they were closing)! All people I have met thro’ Zenyatta’s diary. We just post on here or facebook that we are going, and look out for each other there. Trust me, Zenyatta’s party is going to be all Z fans, and lots of people from here, you will not be alone. Do you have a dumpling tag from Diana? As soon as you see others with their dumpling tag, you’ll know you’ve found a friend. Look at this this way, you can go meet lots of new people and have a fantastic day to remember, or, you can stay home alone and have a memory of, hmmm, being home alone! I want you to practise talking to people you don’t know and report back to us. Next time your at the checkout line in the supermarket, talk to the person behind you, look at something in their cart and say, oh is that good, I’ve been thinking of trying it. Or if they have something good, say, that looks tasty, you’ve made me want one. If you can do that, you can surely talk to people who love Zenyatta, that’s a piece of cake. Let us know when you buy your ticket. First Zenyatta’s party, next the world!
Kimberly Potter
@Vicki B~ We duct taped the rubbermaid lid to the arms of the chair for the tray…and yep, we used phone books to get him up higher…it was quite a site and we got pictures. My grandson is now 5, and I am sure he will see those pictures one day!!

@Trina Nagele-Thank you. @kari Bussell-Understand your opinion about Lane. I share it. I have been a fan of the SEC since before South Carolina and Arkansas were members. Billy Cannon was one of my first football heroes. I don’t think Texas A&M will enjoy playing those SEC teams after week. @Kim S and Judy Berube-The old man going to a lecture was Diana’s joke. For some reason, she didn’t want to post it. The vacation one was mine. @Susan in TN-That is why you are the president. @signofthetimes-I can’t belive that Life at Ten is still racing. The way this horse has been handled is a disgrace, typical of TP. He probably didn’t even know she was still in his barn. According to reports from Santa Anita, Blind Luck is all right physically, but is definitely our of the Breeders Cup. I don’t believe it. @Brenda S-Glad you liked the joke. Uncle Mo looks good for BC Seems to be coming up to it perfectly. @Debbie G-You won’t be alone at the BC unless you come disguised as a Kentucky football fan. @KImberly Potter-You are in. Welcome aboard. Life as you knew it is over. @Kari Bussell and Susan in TN-You might be a redneck if the tobacco chewers in your family are not just men. You might be a redneck if Dolly Parton reminds you of the Grand Tetons. You might be a redneck if you are working at a welfare office in order to steal food stamps. You might be a redneck if your dog has a flat nose from chasing parked cars. Today’s joke, especially for DJ–There was an old man sitting on his porch watching the rain fall. Pretty soon, the water was coming over the porch and into the house. The old man was still sitting there when a rescue boat came and the people aboard said “You can’t stay here. You have to come with us.” The old man replied “No, God will save me.” So, the boat left. A little while later the water was up to the second floor, and another rescue boat came, and again told the old man that he had to come with them. The old man again replied “God will save me,” so the boat left him again. An hour later the water was up to the roof and a third rescue boat arrived and asked the old man to come with them. Again, the old man refused to leave, saying “God will save me,” so the boat left without him. Soon after the old man drowns and goes to heaven. When he sees God, he asks him “Why didn’t you save me?” God replied “I tried. I sent three boats after you.”

@J Smith~ Great advice for Debbie G! I have been doing things alone for a very long time and have come to enjoy it. For too long did I go without doing things because I didn’t have someone to go with. I finally decided that I was really missing out on life experiences. I have traveled across country and back by myself….years ago when I didn’t have access to horseracing on TV, I started going to the local casino and placing bets (not alot of money) on the Derby and other races and start conversations with some of the old timers….who gave lots of good advice…and I met lots of interesting people. Life is an adventure if we seek it out.
Debbie G~ I sincerely encourage to go to Zenyatta’s Party….you will meet so many AWESOME people and TEAM Z….you will be so proud of yourself.

@Kimberly Potter –I thought you were kidding about the duct tape!!
Good advice to Debbie G. about not staying home alone. I met my husband in college at age 18, married 2 years later, and we’ve been together 45 years. I have never traveled alone since we married. One of these days I might be in the same boat. If we were going to Z’s party, she could pal around with us.
Kimberly Potter
@Barbara Wood~ Unfortunately, I was not kidding…lol
I wish we were going to Z’s party…no doubt we would pal around and have the time of our lives.

Dear Zenyatta Hi sweet girl. I hope you had a better day in Kentucky than we did in Ohio. This morning I ran in winter gear. The rest of the day cold and rainy. Where is my sunshine? I like to keep you posted on my class and Madame Mistletoe. She is sending us art work. Jennifer let me know she is sending a painting for each child. I guess she made them with her hoof. I will frame mine. Is that too cute or what. I was just telling the children the other day how You paint for charity. I am so excited for the children. This is a big deal to the teacher too :) I have really enjoyed the racing this weekend. WoW Zenny Mo did great. I am so happy for him. I was so happy for Zazu too. I watched both races. I just love it. Well sweet girl I need to get ready for tomorrow. I love you so much. You are the Greatest but you have never let that go to your head. I love how you support other horses. Sending you many Kises and Hugs, Shari XXXOOO
@ Susan I will ALWAYS LOVE ROOTBEER PLEASE KISS him for me:0

@BW again~ and congratualtions on 45 years with your hubby….that is awesome, you found your best friend!
Kimberly
Oh Queen, you looks so beautiful….I hope I can come see you in a few weeks.
Especially Horses
Just returned from a long weekend away from home (was in Arizona…beautiful time of year. Autumn in Arizona takes second place to no state, unbelievable Fall colors). I was able to catch the great Saturday racing on ESPN. Wow, wow, wow!!! Can hardly wait for the Breeder’s Cup.
——-
Special thoughts for Blind Luck; will miss her at the Breeder’s Cup, but hopefully she will recover to race again next year. Happy to hear that Life at Ten is retired.
–
Danedream won the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, in grand style, a race I look forward to every year. I hope her connections take her to the Breeder’s Cup. Ah, Dream Ahead just nipped Goldikova in the Prix de la Foret. Love you Goldi.

Wemissfrankie takes the Oak Leaf at Santa Anita in “Z” style.

@ J Smith: Regarding your post to Debby G… I couldn’t agree with you more. I have been going to Santa Anita by myself for years and it allows me to do what I love most…hang out at the paddock/walking ring for as long as I want and then go stand by the finish line for races that are important to me. You are so right about bringing along non-horsey friends. For the most part they just want to sit in the stands and bet…too boring for me and not enough “up close horse time” to satisfy my equine genes.
