Happy Friday, Everyone!
Suddenly it has become a bit chilly in Lexington. I need to have MY cozy blanket on for my early morning grazing fun with Matt! It is pretty out, though! The fall leaves will start to change soon…and the added color will really make the trees look amazing! This is MY first ‘fall’ in this regard for many years. In California, the seasons do not change as prominently as they do in Kentucky!
I am so pleased that YOU really like the idea of MY PARTY. So many fans have already responded and purchased tickets. If you have done so already…you are definitely in the first 500…so do not worry. The computer people are getting this refined for you so the people purchasing tickets in the future will know this information right away. This should all be completed today. Thank you for your patience!
I am also so excited about the incredible weekend of racing we are all going to be able to enjoy. From the East Coast to West Coast, it is one contentious stakes race after another with so many of the results having Breeders’ Cup ramifications. I love the fact that Havre de Grace and Blind Luck are each performing at such a high level. Their races are going to be so exciting! (I have a special fondness for the LADY’S SECRET which runs this weekend.) Then to see all of the other possibilities…whether turf or dirt for so many other terrific horses…will make handicapping GREAT FUN this weekend!
I can’t wait!
All the best to each of the horses competing during the next few days! All of my pals at Lane’s End and I will be watching!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Day Dream was supplemented with 100 Euros to
Run in the ARC. Treasure Beach lead the way for
awhile. Workhorse a troubled trip and So You Thinat the back of the pack.

Day Dream fastest ARC ever, by a filly.

Day Dream purchased for 9000 Euros as a yearling.
Brenda S..
Great day for the girls at Longchamp and Danedream broke the track record. Hoof Hoof Hoofray for the girls.
LauraJ
Her jockey just gave her a huge smooch on her nose. They just said she was a 9000 Euro yearling. That’s less that $14K.
signofthetimes
Snow Fairy will race next year in Japan.

@Doreen
So glad you had Great day at Belmont.
signofthetimes
Sorry misspell Danedream not Day Dream; great
Turn of foot.
signofthetimes
Danedream may come to the Breeders Cup, Whoo, Hoo !!!!!
One of the most if not the most awesome race story for the
ARC. Rags to Riches story. She trained in a very small town
In Germany.

@Laura J
Yes, definately. Zenny’s full sibling to Europe
Would give the filly/colt to do what Zenny did not.
I guess when you have a champion like Zenny
training should be focused. If she had gone from
Surface to surface she may have not excelled to
The level she did. So I understand John’s strategy,
But to take her full sibling to the turf would be awesome.
Just her size and strength alone could maybe compete
At 2 miles. What an exciting prospect to watch unfold.

@Laura J
Any info on someone like Mo winning the BCC
And getting an Eclipse? Not sure this would happen???
Also, what about Goldikova as HOY, I guess she has not
Raced enough in US. I am also thinking if she
Wins her 4th BC. I think the 3 year old Euro
Colts are awesome this year and I think with
Goldi testosterone wins. She is an extremely
Talented mare. I don’t think age is an issue for
Her as she is very fit, perhaps size though when
Running against larger colts with lots and lots
Of testosterone. What do you think?
Sue Fredrick
Just watching the TVG coverage of the French racing with commentary by Todd Schrupp and Steven Stark(English) and was shocked by the comments. Todd was praising the Euro horses throughout and after Danedream won the Arc Mr Stark said, ” you Americans should send more horses over to Europe, put your money where your MOUTH is.” To which Todd replied, “well the US dollar is weak right now.” Mr Stark said, “so ARE your horses”. I was appalled by his snarky comment. Grass racing is becoming more popular over here so we are playing catchup, but I don’t see any of them running over here on dirt!! I think that was a horribly cheap, unnecessary comment.

@Laura J
Oh yes, Street Cry has very versatile runner. I
Believe on all surfaces in Europe. The hopes
And dreams of racing.

Talk is Cape Blanco for Eclipse award for turf.

Hi Zenyatta,
Hope you’re not too tired from watching all the racing. High hoof to Zazu keeping the ‘Z’ tradition going. Also high hoof to YOUR John on doing well with Battle Force, Utopian and Harmonious PLUS they all came home safe. Hope there’s sunshine and some of that Kentucky Blue Grass for Sunday snacking. Love and hugs, Suzanne G
@judy berube or J Smith–are there some rules about claiming races? Do you know if it is possible that Indian Tale CAN be claimed in her race 10/4 at Parx?
Linda in NJ
Hi Zenny: Well I am sure everyone has told you about Havre de Grace winning at the Belmont. I got to see her. She is a very pretty filly. And I got to see Uncle Mo again. I was so happy for him. Great day at the Belmont.
Linda in NJ
Hi Zenny: I also see it was a great day for Zazu. Congrats, Zazu.
@Doreen: Too bad we missed an opportunity to say hello. Maybe next time. It seemed like Super Saturday was well attended. I hope so. The trains from NY Penn Station sure helped.
@Vicki: I am sorry you missed the window, but I am sure happy to hear Zenyatta’s party is going to be well attended.
Trina Nagele
Good morning, Queen Z. Congratulations to those wonderful fillies in the Arc! Today we’re celebrating two birthday ladies, Anne from Paramount and Sue Noel.
@All who commented yesterday on the belated birthday poem for Marilu V, thank you.

A Birthday Poem for Anne from Paramount
October 2, 2011
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Anne from Paramount
Has more charms
Than we can count.
She’s a SoCal gal
Who never will fail
To regale
Z-sters from coast to coast
With her posts.
Her love of racing goes back
To the great Cigar–
She got big kicks
Watching him in ’96
Running on the track.
That’s when she
By the racing bug was bitten.
She found it such a treat
That she jumped in with both feet!
Indeed she has written
How she now in partnership
A couple of racers owns—
Maybe a future star?
One is Rightful Image,
A horse of noble lineage,
With four starts so far.
He’s trained now
by Mike Machowsky
(Who like a Tchaikovsky
Masterfully tuned Caracortado).
For Anne it was oh so delightful
When Mike Smith guided Rightful
From well off the pace,
Then zooming on the outside,
With a Zenyatta-like ride,
To get a place!
To date Rightful’s best race!
That was this April,
But in May
Came cause for dismay
With Rightful’s ankle.
Trainer Mike sounded the alarm,
And at that stage,
He gauged
That to avoid further harm,
Rightful should get R and R
On the farm.
Now it’s fall–
We hope he’ll again be
In his backside stall.
Perhaps we’ll see
Him have a start
On the turf
At Santa Anita
Or Hollywood Park.
We’ll watch for news
Of Rightful Image
from Anne
Here on Z’s page,
For it’s here where
Anne comes to join other fans
Of that great mare
And with us to share.
She says it’s like therapy
And her stress relieves
When she can be
With her closest friends—
Z-sters hundreds strong!—
For she loves all who post here
And bring her such cheer.
So to those ends,
With the phrase that she herself coined,
Let’s all join
In a “Hoof, hoof, hoof ray!”
With which we wish you, dear Anne,
A Happy Birthday
And joy the whole year long.
A Birthday Poem for Sue Noel
October 2, 2011
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sue was a lover of creatures equine
Long before she was nine.
When she turned eight
(She’ll never forget that date)
Her family—so clever—
Gave her the best present ever—
Her first real live horse, of course!
A beautiful roan
Of that hue
That’s called blue
To be all her own!
She and that docile mare
Made a wonderful pair,
And Sue loved
Her Blue Duchess
As much as
Heaven above.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Even so young, Sue knew the racing lore
Of decades gone before,
And of those no longer alive,
She adored
The great Man o’ War.
To this day of him
She has the lead figurine
That she was given
When just around five.
He’s lost most of his paint,
So the color’s now faint
But he’s still Sue’s treasure
And her pleasure
In him
Over sixty-five years
Hasn’t dimmed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In ’47 she’d been sure to hear
The Derby broadcast—
’Twas Jet Pilot’s year.
And when a few years passed,
On vacation in Kentucky,
She was so lucky
As to pet the Jet in his stall.
And more cause for celebration—
She saw the great Citation,
And patted War Admiral,
Man o’ War’s son.
And lest you think this a spoof—
She has photos as proof!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
More memories she never forgets:
In her high school years
Her family lived near Santa Anita
Where the horses run as fast as a cheetah,
Every morn
For her it was a neat caper
To read the racing form
In the local paper
And make imaginary bets.
She could hardly wait each day
Till classes were done
And evening had come,
For when she from school was back,
She’d tune the radio to the half-hour replay
Of events at the track.
She’d hear the crowd’s cheers
As she listened,
And in her mind’s eye
She would see
How the winner
Held his head high
And how his coat glistened.
She’d note how her horses had run–
For her ’twas certainly fun
That often they’d won!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now this life-long racing fan
Is a highly valued part
Of the Zenyatta clan,
And, dear Sue Noel,
To you we all say
From the heart,
We wish you well
And hope you have today
A very happy birthday
And many more to come!

judy berube: Yes, I think Shack does need a rest. In fact after his run at Saratoga, I thought they would have come to that decision. He is such a great horse.
@signofthetimes: I think everyone was in shock when Stay Thirsty come in third. I didn’t know he got caught in traffic. Do you think he will race again in the BC?
Doreen
@LauraJ – sorry I missed you too. My friend and I were saying yesterday that it looked like a pretty good turnout. But I was still able to get to the rail to take pictures of Uncle Mo, HDG and Stay Thirsty in the paddock and the winner’s circle (except Stay Thirsty – I did take a picture of him unsaddling). We figured around 25,000 or so. I noticed that Barbara Livingston was there, so I’m sure that she’ll have some great pictures on her blog on Drf.com.

@Trina Nagele–incredible birthday poems–wonderful to read for all of us!
Brenda S..
Since signofthetimes clued me in to HRTV on line I’m glued to the seat and ignoring everything else, including my chores. I am so amazed by Brenda’s comments about Lane’s End, when we were there in August they couldn’t have been nicer. We were given lots of time for photos and treats and everyone was friendly. I’ll try to get my chores done this afternoon between watching TV and the computer. Zenny, you have such a great group of friends here as well as at LE.
Janie (in L.A.)
I’m so happy for Zazu, Havre de Grace and Uncle Mo – they all ran great yesterday. I sure wish I could go to your party, Zenyatta, but I’m sure there will be great coverage of it by our fellow posters on this site…

@Trina Nagel
Love the B-day poems so very special for
Each dumpling.

@ Linda J and Judy B
Shack needs a rest and a new approach. I don’t think he was himself at all yesterday. Usually when he breaks he is very enthusiastic to get on the lead, he was ho hum !!! He needs someone to connect with him and move him forward in his
training. So glad Barbara Grimaldi spoke up. It is unfortunate
that $$$$ is the bottom line.
signofthetimes
@Laura J
Oh yes!!! If Zenny were to have a date with Galileo or Sea the Stars what an awesome product and their foals don’t seem to race here. Will be keeping my eye out for the Galileo sold at summer Fastig-Tipton. Maybe there could be some arrangement with thier stud farms to bring them here with a book of mares to a US breeding operation and of course include Zenny. You are definately right The Mosses would probably not send her over there as she would have to stay a while and then return, which I am sure would not be safe for a pregnant mare of her caliber. And to leave her over there for 11 to 12 months will not be possible either. The Mossies and Dottie are very creative so maybe an alternative will be found. I read when Zenny was going to be retired in 2009; John mentioned Sea The Stars as his choice. With Street Cry and her sire and then Sea the Stars or his dad. How awesome would that be.
