Dear Friends,
I hope all of you are well. It is so hard to believe that it is almost October! This year is flying by so quickly.
I must say I am enjoying every moment and having a great time each day at Lane’s End! As I’ve mentioned to you in prior Diary entries, with all of this ‘free time’ in my schedule, I am really investigating several 2nd career options. Currently, I’m diligently working on some very exciting plans and will be sharing them with you very soon.
From the actions I took in these photos, one option I somewhat considered was becoming a HAIR STYLIST. As you can see, while Ann was so affectionately scratching one of my favorite spots…I decided I would redo her hair. Let’s put it this way, she was a GREAT SPORT!
I also tried it with April when she came to visit. I think both of these lovely women did not want to hurt my feelings… but would agree with ME very sweetly…that this is not a 2nd career option for ME! Sometimes you simply have to try different things just to know for yourself that it is NOT for you!
Thank goodness there are other fabulously talented people who do such a great job working in this profession!
Tasty and I share these thoughts all of the time! It really is fun to consider all of the great possibilities!
Enjoy your day!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Queen Z, at least you are not dropping your grain in Ann’s hair! My old race mare used to find it funny to drop her grain in my hair if I was in her stall at feeding time. Many horsewomen go around with hay in their hair, as talked about in the poem “When I am Old” that talks about older women and their beloved horses.

@Judy Berube: From awhile back, thanks for the link to Bluebonnet Equine Rescue!
Sent them a little help tonight. Hugs!
@Jeanie: So happy that the horses are safe now. Also, hope the extra donations can defray the paper costs and transit.
Many thanks!

@cliver—¡Muy bien dicho!
And for those who would like an English translation of cliver’s posts: “Never in my life as a Venezuelan lover of horses have I ever known an example so different as this beautiful mare, the best in the world…There will never be another Zenyatta… Zenyatta, the best.”
@Marshall(Girl’s Name)— Lovely Emily Dickinson quote for Kari.
@Jeanie—High hoof to you and all those who contributed to the successful ransoming of the horses from the Nevada feedlot so that they can go to Valley View Ranch Equine Rescue instead of to slaughter! I hope others will still pitch in a little to cover the transport costs.

@Quarterhossgal—I found the poem. It’s lovely!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I am old…
I shall wear turquoise
And a straw cowboy hat that
doesn’t match and doesn’t suit me.
And I shall spend my social security
on white wine and carrots
And sit in the alley way of my barn
And listen to my horses breathe.
I will sneak out in the middle of a summer night
And ride the dappled mare
Across the moonstruck meadow,
If my old bones will allow.
And when people come to call, I will smile and nod,
As I walk them past the gardens to the barn
And show, instead, the flowers growing there.
In stalls fresh-lined with straw
I will learn to shovel and sweat and
wear hay in my hair as if it were a jewel.
And I will be an embarrassment to my only child
Who will have not yet found the peace in being free
To love a horse as a friend,
A friend who waits at midnight hour
With muzzle and nicker and patient eyes
For the kind of person I will be
When I am old.
Dear Z’isters,
You are all so wonderful. Thought you’d like to see what Marlene wrote tonight:
“YEAH!!!!! WE HAVE RAISED THE FUNDS!!!!! I just sent out the last payment to the feedlot and am so happy that they will ALL be safe.”
So it has been a wonderful, but stressful day beginning with the revelation that Zenyatta will never be another Vidal Sassoon to the reality that we all helped save nine sweet lives today. God bless you all and that big beautiful horse that brings us together. Good night,
Your humble J
Good Morning Zenny, It’s damp and misty here in Fort Erie so I am hoping it will clear up for Vic’s school to have their Terry Fox fundraiser. They walk on our Friendship Trail and then have a BBQ at the school.
@ Trina – Loved the poem. I am old, I do wear turquoise, I’d prefer a pina colada but I don’t have the barn or the horse so I’ll just have to keep buying those lottery tickets. Thanks for the translation of the Venezuelan horse lover’s post.
@ Diana – I second all your posts. Some of my Social Security is going into the piggy bank so that I can at least see some horses in Ca next year.
LauraJ
@Jeanie, that’s great news! I will try to send something to help with transportation, but I gather that can wait a couple of days? Tell her we all wish her the best of luck with the adoption fair this weekend.
Good morning Zetty,
hope this morning finds you & your buddy T. T. eating well and drinking plenty?!
Today is an important day for a good size of population in this country. Tonight is the beginning of this year Rosh Hashanan, the Jewish new year of 5772. It concludes with Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar observed by a 26-hr fast and a full day of religious worship and personal reflection. During the 10 day period Jews are asked to focus on the ethical and religious reassessment of their individual lifes.
And since people are into prayers on this site,
this is a well-known prayer, Unetaneh Tokef, for this special time for the Jews:
“On Rosh Hashanah it is written and Yom Kippur it is sealed, how many shall leave this world and how many shall be born into it, who shall live and who shall die, who shall live out the limit of his days and who shall not, who shall perish by fire and who by water, who shall be at peace and who shall be tormented. But penitence, prayer and good deeds can annul the severity of the decree.”
The Days of Awe also are filled with hope, confident that God accepts the repentance offered and grants another year of life. Honey dipped apples are eaten and this prayer finishes the event.
“May it be your will, O Lord Our God, to grant us a year that is good and sweet.”
I know very little about this religious stuff, but I thought it wouldn’t hurt to read about it and pass it on.
Of course it’s all oats to you, but some here seem to be interested in prayers.
So have a great day
