Dear Friends,
I hope all of you are well. It is so hard to believe that it is almost October! This year is flying by so quickly.
I must say I am enjoying every moment and having a great time each day at Lane’s End! As I’ve mentioned to you in prior Diary entries, with all of this ‘free time’ in my schedule, I am really investigating several 2nd career options. Currently, I’m diligently working on some very exciting plans and will be sharing them with you very soon.
From the actions I took in these photos, one option I somewhat considered was becoming a HAIR STYLIST. As you can see, while Ann was so affectionately scratching one of my favorite spots…I decided I would redo her hair. Let’s put it this way, she was a GREAT SPORT!
I also tried it with April when she came to visit. I think both of these lovely women did not want to hurt my feelings… but would agree with ME very sweetly…that this is not a 2nd career option for ME! Sometimes you simply have to try different things just to know for yourself that it is NOT for you!
Thank goodness there are other fabulously talented people who do such a great job working in this profession!
Tasty and I share these thoughts all of the time! It really is fun to consider all of the great possibilities!
Enjoy your day!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Dearest Kari— Thank you for the WONDERFUL news at the end of Diary 343 that (thanks to a Dumpling!) you are being seen by a doctor in Atlanta once a week and getting a new treatment that gives you a ray of hope in your battle to overcome cancer. I am hoping and praying that you continue to beat the odds and are with us for many years to come. HUGS!
@Kari’s Dumpling Benefactor—THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART, THANK YOU!

Oh Zeny – what a lovely picture of you and Ann. Shows how much she misses and loves you. Wish I could be there too and give you a hug. Love and prayers for you and baby! Marilu

@Jeanie–Are you sure donations to Valley View can still be sent through Wednesday? Isn’t Wednesday the truck day? I too, like Barbara Wood, don’t want to burden Marlene with an extra e-mail, but I do want to know if enough money has come in to rescue these darlings. Can’t stand the thought otherwise…
Bridget
It’s too cute the way you are looking so affectionately at April, Z and arranging their hair at that. Wish I could be there for you to do that!

Horses unlike dogs can not scratch their heads or
Eyes to get rid of flys on their face. They are ever
Present when grazing. In addition, the horse can
Get eye infections from the flys If the get into
Their eyes.

Trina,
Marlene just needs to have the money by tomorrow to have them kept off the truck. It is just a phone call or maybe wiring the money to keep the horses off the truck. She doesn’t plan on going to get them until the week or weekend following her adoption event Oct. 1-2 in Salinas. I sent her an email a few minutes ago asking for an update. Haven’t heard back yet. If she has enough money for rescue them, think about how pays for her gas and the processing fees. Marlene does if there isn’t any extra money. If you have the ability to send a donation, do it. It doesn’t take any more time than an email and I know every penny helps. Thank you for thinking of these dear souls.
From what Marlene tells me, the feedlot operators are not the problem. They work very cooperatively with her and try to help her save as many horses as possible. The problem is the people who send their horses there and the killers who come and take them away. The feedlot operators would just as soon not have any horses there. If you look at the photos, the children riding the horses are the children of the feedlot operators. Hope that helps. Please everyone, send what you can.

@Kari – I’m so thrilled by the news of Atlanta!! Yay!! Prayers and hugs to you!
Zenny – I just can’t get over how talented you are – or at least, willing to try new things and see how it goes. What an inspiration! And you look very preggers in the photo – I wonder if it’s an optical illusion or what. But ya look gorgeous, gal !!!

Maybe your friends could take you to a salon. Your mane is quite sun bleached. Have you been swimming? Don’t you just love being scratched in the good places and moving your lips on someone at the same time?

Zenny! You’re competitor on the track is retiring…
Grade 2 winner St Trinians retired:
“St Trinians (GB), whose biggest claim to fame was nearly upsetting eventual Horse of the Year Zenyatta in the 2010 Vanity Handicap (G1), was retired on Tuesday after fluid was found in one of her ankles, the Daily Racing Form reports.”

p.s. How about a massage therapist; you could rub my neck with your soft nose!! I’d pay top dollar!!

Whenever I see anything posted about St. Trinians I am reminded how much I enjoyed the series by Robert Searle on the naughty girls of St. Trinians, which was supposed to be a very British school for “young ladies” I went to an all girls school and I always wished that I could go to St. Trinians instead of the Fairfield High School for Girls. Some of you Dumplings would enjoy the Searle series.

Zenyatta you are such a sweetheart. Can’t wait to hear about your second career! Love the fly mask. I know it’s not pretty, but boy is it helpful. Flies are not fun and very bothersome to man and horses alike.

Dear Zenyatta I know you will be happy for my class. Please go on http://www.peppermintpal.com to see the new video. It shows what my children sent to Mistletoe. It is TOO CUTE. I love you sweet girl FOREVER, Shari XXXOOO
@ To my Z family if you have time check out the site. All of you love Zenyatta and what she stands for. This is my new class embracing horses and the racing world. It is really cute :)

@Patricia, I have a Saluki story for you. Last year, our Doberman club sponsored an agility trial. It was mostly Border Collies and Aussies, but one of the competitors was a Saluki. He went off course a bit. He decided he was going to have some fun, so he went over whatever jumps he felt like–backwards and forwards, climbed the A-frame twice, and went through one of the tunnels five or six times. His handler wasn’t pleased, but the dog was having such a fabulous time that I had to love him. Funniest thing I had seen in ages.

What a sweet pic of you and Ann, it’s love, you can see it.
Love ya Z
Germaine
Sure hoping your plans include your loyal fans. Like maybe a day to admire you once you have given birth. Oh, how I long for the day that I can see you up close. The diary helps, but seeing you in person is #1 on my bucket list. Sweet Dreams, Zenyatta.
Barbara Wood
JAG–thanks for the links. If I owned St. Trinians, I’d never sell her.
