Happy Monday, Everyone!
It was such a wonderful weekend of racing…plus I had so many fabulous times visiting with MY TEAM during the sales…that I thought it would be best to catch up on my rest!
I know there are some very exciting things happening in the next few weeks…and I really want to be perfectly rested so I can enjoy all of them.
MY JOHN loves this particular photo as he said I used to sleep like this with my head in this position all of the time when I was with him at BARN 55. I have to adjust my ‘tummy’ a bit at this time…as I am now literally ‘sleeping for 2’.
He also loved seeing how TASTY and I share such an endearing relationship. He commented to Dottie last night that the ‘kindness’ of our relationship shows even in this picture.
Tasty really is so sweet. She is always close by…and she literally watches over ME while I sleep. I am so fortunate. A dear friend, like she is to ME…and I am to her…is something to be truly treasured.
On another note, I also want to give a HIGH HOOF to Bernie and the performance of To Honor and Serve this weekend. This colt that he sired won the Pennsylvania Derby in great style…and established a new record while doing so in this victory. Congratulations to all who are involved with this wonderful colt.
Our sport….it is truly very special!
Enjoy your day!
With love,
Hugs to All~
Z

These pictures are what life is all about. It doesn’t get better than this. Their relationship is beyond sweet. We humans could take lessons from these two.

http://www.thoroughbredtimes.com/breeding-news/2011/02/08/driven-to-tears-zenyatta-name.aspx “Knowing that the Mosses like to use connections to Sting and The Police, I looked for something from that aspect,” Tim said. “Driven To Tears is a song from them, and I can only imagine how many people were driven to tears by Zenyatta, whether it be watching her race or simply being in her presence.”

Such a sweetheart – I am so happy to see you getting along so well! And yes – your Bernie is quickly becoming a major influence to horse racing! It just makes it more and more exciting about your precious foal with every one of his foals that I see on the track! LOVE YOU
Cheryl
I dont like that Driven to Tears. Too sad too dark for what will be a shining light for all of us – sorry just my thoughts since it is getting so much attention.

RIP Tim Reynolds
@Jeanie–thank so much. I really hope we are not disappointed. It would be unbearable.
Cheryl
being “driven to tears” is not a joyous experience at all it is the result of intense sadness and heartbreak. dont use it please
Fran Doos
It would be a lovely tribute to Tim to name the foal a name chosen by him. He has given so much to racing and to his fans. He could live on and be remembered for his love of the industry. It would be something special.
And, Z, you are such a lucky girl to have such a special friend. xxoo
Cheryl
Tears of Joy would be better…if you must cry
Barbara Wood
@Trina and Jeanie–just checked the website. The only one without sponsor money is the latest addition. I’m not sure what “sponsored” means. Is that money paid out to a foster home?

@ Karan
I believe there was a horse with that name already, and it ended badly.
Not a good start for a promissing future, I would think.
Sunny Boyd
My suggestion for a name
March Madness
Sunny Boyd
Driven To Tears, a multiple stakes winner in France who raced in the US in 1983 for Oak Cliff Stable & suffered a catastrophic injury in that yrs’ Bay Meadows Handicap.
I rest my case. Surely not. Nobody would want to put that karma on Zenyatta’s little foal.

@Karan
They had a contest to name Z’s foal when she first
Became pregnant. It was a name NOT liked by
Many after it was chosen. It is fun to think and ponder names.
But, The Mosses will definately chose one that is fitting
For the foal just like the do for all their horses. I am
Not comfortable with the name and the previous
Horse with it did not have a good outcome.

First of all I would like to thank those who wrote such nice comments about Bess…I so appreciate them. Do I have stories…..I sure do and here is another one about Bess. Bess was at Harris Farms River Ranch Division…..just to let you all know that they did a great job in taking care of her…..anyway she was out in one of their big fields with other retired mares and some angus cows. Well it seems that one cow had her calf. Now if you knew Bess what happened next does not surprise me……she took the calf away from the mother cow and would not let her have it back….if memory serves me it took the staff at Harris at least and hour and a half to extract the poor calf away from Bess and return it to its mother. Needless to say Bess was moved to another field.
Coming up….more Bess stories and other stories from my 55 years in this business.

@Suzzane Pashayan
Thanks for sharing the stories about Bess. It is
So wonderful to hear about her an her funny
characteristics. She is a little smaller than Goldikova
Right? Goldi is 15.3 and Bess was 15 hands? I heard
The story, but they did not write about the wrangling. TOO
CUTE!!!!
What strong maternal instincts she had.

Some one suggested: Berning to Dance, really
Like it cause she spelled like Bernies name.

@Dawn C
Absolutely love “Chosen by a Horse”. It is a book
I have read over and over.
@Trina Nagel
Love Horse Haven, learned a lot about the racing
world and Dick Francis writes so well.

@Tom Z
The donations to visit Z have been for specific
Charities she supports.

Queen Z….looks like you found the best place in the pasture to rest with your friend TT watching over you.
Dawn Conrad: Thanks for the book referral, it shoulds like one I will love.
Glad to hear the Serena’s Song is doing so well. I saw her race in the Breeder’s Cup in Toronto, she was a Diva in a good way!
Brian A.
It would be a wonderful tribute to Tim Reynolds if “Driven to Tears” was the name chosen for Zenyatta’s foal.
Linda Henderson
I love the sleeping picture. So sweet.
Karan
Tim picked Driven To Tears partly due to the fact that all her fans would post crying when she would make it to the paddock We all watched every race together on FB from all over the world and we were driven to Tears at the sight of her so its a perfect name
Leslie
awwwww how sweet! Love you Zenny!
Diana S
@Terry Crow: Your postscript was almost as funny as the joke. But I got your butts.

TIM REYNOLDS was right…we have all cried at the beauty of Zenny…DRIVEN TO TEARS is a perfect name for her foal!
Diana S
@Terry Crow: I hope your daughter might be talked into joining all us crazies at BC2012 at Santa Anita! We’ll all be on our best behavior, we promise!
@Sunny Boyd: March Madness for a colt would be okay, but I’d sure want a more memorable name for a filly.
RIP Tim: I hope you’ll forgive me, but I don’t really like the name that won the contest – bad karma.
@Kari: Sending thoughts your way. Always get worried when you don’t post.

I’m sorry to hear of Tim Reynolds passing. He’s a fb friend of mine. I will have to log in to fb to read.
@ Karan
I have a question for you, since you seem to know Tim personally. Correct me if I’m wrong ~ with all due respect to Mr. Reynolds, I recall that he wanted Blame to win the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Classic because he felt Blame was the “better” horse. Zenyatta was NOT his choice. I don’t want to start WW III, or disrespect Zenyatta’s diary, but I’d like to know (without anger) why you feel a Zenyatta foal be named in honor of Tim because he won a contest.
~~~~~
I remember the contest to name Zenyatta’s foal, and how Tim arrived at the name ~ from the Police songs (produced by Mr. Jerry Moss). However, for the Mosses to name their foal in honor of Mr. Reynolds seems a little odd to me, personally.
~~~~~
Rest in peace, Tim aka an avid racing fan!!
Trina Nagele
@Suzanne Pashayan—Thank you for the delightful story about Brown Bess and her strong maternal instinct which led her to take the calf from the mother cow. We very much look forward to more stories.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
@Shari Voltz—How sweet that your class got a lock of Mistletoe’s mane and one of the shoes she was wearing in her first win! High hoof! I’m glad you managed to squeeze posting here into your super busy schedule. All the best to you and your students.
RIP Tim “Tiznow” Reynolds.
Dear Z Fans:
All of you that do not like the name that won the contest, I absolutely agree. I think the Moss’ will come up with a better one. Hugs, J.B.
