Happy Monday, Everyone!
It was such a wonderful weekend of racing…plus I had so many fabulous times visiting with MY TEAM during the sales…that I thought it would be best to catch up on my rest!
I know there are some very exciting things happening in the next few weeks…and I really want to be perfectly rested so I can enjoy all of them.
MY JOHN loves this particular photo as he said I used to sleep like this with my head in this position all of the time when I was with him at BARN 55. I have to adjust my ‘tummy’ a bit at this time…as I am now literally ‘sleeping for 2’.
He also loved seeing how TASTY and I share such an endearing relationship. He commented to Dottie last night that the ‘kindness’ of our relationship shows even in this picture.
Tasty really is so sweet. She is always close by…and she literally watches over ME while I sleep. I am so fortunate. A dear friend, like she is to ME…and I am to her…is something to be truly treasured.
On another note, I also want to give a HIGH HOOF to Bernie and the performance of To Honor and Serve this weekend. This colt that he sired won the Pennsylvania Derby in great style…and established a new record while doing so in this victory. Congratulations to all who are involved with this wonderful colt.
Our sport….it is truly very special!
Enjoy your day!
With love,
Hugs to All~

Dear Jeannie:
This is happening more and more frequently because people can’t afford to keep their horses anymore. I understand that many have lost their jobs and their homes and are having trouble feeding their families. But, I wish people would contact rescues and ask for assistance or leave flyers (hand written ones even) all over the towns they live in asking for good homes for these horses instead of just giving them up to a kill buyer for a small amount of money. These beautiful horses are innocent victims of circumstance. Hugs, J.B.

Dear Kathy Kimber:
Thank you for the info on Skip Away. He was one of my favorites. Hugs, J.B.
Laura Vogt
What a beautiful creature you are.

@Barbara Wood-I was only in that part of Kansas once. I went to visit Fort Larned, which is near Pawnee Rock. Nobody was there except me and the docent so I got a personal tour. He told me that the old TV show F Troop was based on the frontier soldiers who used to be based there. @Brenda S-That one I can tell at the drop of a hat as it is one of my favorites. I did have to clean up the language somewhat from its original form. @Judy Berube–Thank you. It was good to see her again. She still calls me daddy after all these years.

Dear Terry Crow:
My sister and I cared for my Dad in his last years. He passed in 2005 at 84. We always called him “Daddy”. We would refer to him as our father, but it was a habit that never left us. We always called him Daddy. Hugs, J.B.
Barbara Wood
@Trina–thanks for the Jane Smiley suggestion. I have read one of her books, but it wasn’t that one. I’ll add to my Amazon list.
@Terry Crow–did not know that about F Troop.
@Jeanie–I was hoping you would have news. I’ve been checking the website all day. I remember the same thing happened last month when we were on the edge of our seats, wondering. Those precious faces just beg for kindness from someone.

Zenyatta, you and Tastey are so precious. Love seeing the photos. It warms my heart. Thank you.
Shari Voltz
Oh Zenyatta I miss writing to you. I never have enough hours in the day. I love these pictures. You are a real Beauty. I love you so much. I sing your song every morning and the children do still say your name. We are having fun with our Mistletoe project. She sent us a lock of her mane and one of her shoes she wore when she won her maiden. We all love it. It hangs up in the room. I want to say hi to my wonderful Z family too. I miss and love you all. Hugs and Kisses to Zenyatta the Queen. I love you, Shari XXXOOO
@ Dawn thank you for my gift :)
@ Hi sweet Susan. I hope you are doing ok :)
Jeanie
Barbara and Judy,
Thanks for your notes. I wish I had news today. This is making me nervous. I emailed and left voice mail for Marlene, but have not heard anything. She is probably very busy getting ready for her adoption event this weekend. I’m hoping that is a good sign that she is not worried about these horses and has the funds to rescue them. As soon as I hear anything, I will let you know.
Judy, I’ve heard of cases where Thoroughbred breeders and former owners/trainers stipulate on registration or sale papers that they want the horse back if it ever falls on hard times and is endangered. Sometimes even these horses go to slaughter because someone is just to *%&#@ lazy and cruel to pick up the phone.

@Thomas Zodda
Yes, Z is sequestered pretty much. Personal visits
Are only from her Team, special people in her life
Like the Mayberry’s and Mike Smith. There have been
A few small groups of 6 that have visited upon donation
Of 5 figures. It seems all the activity from the sale really
Wore her out and premature labor is probably not
Something LE would relish. Sorry. This website
Really keeps all of us up to date on everything in her
Life as well as lots of other things.

Zenny – it’s good to have friends that look out for each other.
@judy berube – thank you for posting the link on Skip Away. I read the article when it first came out but it’s always good to read it again. I cried like a baby the day he died. A friend that I share my love of horseracing introduced himself to Sonny and told him how big of a fan he was of Skip Away. Sonny was a gracious and generous man and he welcomed my friend to visit “Skip” on the backside numerous times. He was very proud of Skip Away and wanted to share that with everyone. Sonny even offered my friend a plane ticket to go and see Skip when he ran in the Breeder’s Cup at Churchill Downs. Carolyn was the only one that was able to go into his stall and not get bitten. Both Skip and Carolyn shared a special bond between them. I believe that Skip Away should be #1 on the all-time North American list of earnings and not Curlin, or at the time, Cigar. The reason why I say this is the earnings should be for what was earned in North America, and not what was earned worldwide. That should be a separate category (I’m not taking anything away from their accomplishments). I’m sure it’s called North American because of where the horse was born and not where it exclusively made its career earnings. I guess I’m a little bias.

Zenny ~ Good evening! I’m just reading today’s diary :-)
~~~~~~~~
I was so thrilled with another of Bernie’s offspring winning! I wrote congrats on Bernie’s fb wall! TOO CUTE!
~~~~~~~~
The photos of you and your dear friend bring such emotions ~ I will never forget YOUR JOHN saying he was happy for YOU to finally be a “horse” who could run in pastures! This is proof of why he felt this way. Thanks, John, for loving Zenyatta so much…

Kisses & Hugs, Queen Z and Baby z, XOXOXOXO

Today we have lost one of horse racings biggest fans, Tim Tiznow Reynolds. He had suggested “Driven To Tears” as a name for Zenyatta’s foal. This would be a huge honor in his memory for a man that has brought thousands of new fans to racing with his wit and humor RIP Tim you are loved and missed.
Sunny Boyd
Good evening Zenyatta,
very nice pics of you and T. T., your best maturnity buddy. :) :) :)
Thanks so much to all your VIPs for continuing so faithfully and generously with all the terrific info on you.
Well, as you stated so smartly yourself you & Tasty need plenty of rest now.

Zenny, you are a beauty, sleeping or awake. Your pal, TT, is very special, too.

Let’s do this!!

Zen, having a great friend like TASTY is priceless. I know that you are also a great friend to her. Thanks for sharing this photo of you sleeping outdoors and wearing a fly mask.
Kimberly
Oh Z, you touch everyone you meet with your kindness. Even Tasty can feel your compassion…. Nitey Nite ZZZZZZ
Kim S
Hey Zenny, your and TT look so happy and relaxed, like familiar friends just hanging out.
Think I caught up on all the posts, having a tough time lately, my daughter has been wanting to go to the horse resuce every day :) and of course, we don’t just go for a couple of hours. I’m not complaining and I can agree with their being the “rescuers” for us humans.
Thoughts and prayers to anyone in need.
@Terry Crow–so glad you had a great birthday visit with your daughter.
@Jeanie, Marlene and Valley View–keeping up with donation totals, will check again tomorrow in case I need to come up with a little more :)
Zenny hope you and TT get your beauty and baby rest, have a great night.
Z’sters have a great night and week.
Lotsa love to all.

I second what Karan Kees said. Tim “Tiznow” Reynolds won the Thoroughbred Times contest with his name “Driven to Tears” for Z’s foal. No one loved horses and horse racing more than Tiz. He will be missed.
Diane C
As a tribute to Tim “Tiznow” Reynolds, who passed away today, his contest-winning name of “Driven to Tears” should be used for Zenyatta’s foal.
