Good Morning,
My JOHN got a chance to download some of his photos last night…so I wanted to share a few of them with you. It has been so exciting seeing everyone. As usual, we always have a great time together.
Here I am whispering ‘sweet thoughts’ into My John’s ear. At this moment, I really gave a great deal of thought to playing the ‘hat game’ with him as well. It was rather windy at this particular time…so I decided to just ‘kiss’ him on the cheek. I have done this so many times in the past. It brought back so many special memories to ME and I know to him!
What a wonderful day we all shared!
This weekend seems to be packed with a great deal of stakes action at several different racing venues. I am particularly interested in the KENT which is on the turf at Delaware Park and the Pennsylvania Derby on the main track at Parx. Both races are for 3 year olds going 1 1/8. It is great to see how horses continue to develop and mature at this stage. I am especially interested in the Parx race as Bernie sired one of the main contenders, TO HONOR AND SERVE.
I must say, I do keep track of ‘his’ horses and how they are performing at the race track. His babies sold very well in the various yearling sales to date and his horses are running very competitively all over the world! This is such GREAT NEWS!
I’m proud of you, BERNIE!
On the West Coast, Fairplex is concluding their meet…and then back to Santa Anita for their Autumn Meet of Racing. Opening day is September 30th. This marks the beginning of a great time of racing on the West Coast as one terrific race meet follows another from this point forward for the next 11 plus months.
I hope you enjoy all of the FUN! Good Luck to all of the horses competing this weekend!
With Love,
Hugs to All~
Z

@Trina Nagele: Thanks for taking the time for posting the info about the horses that the Mosses bought at Keeneland. I am especially excited about a cross between Elusive Quality daughter and Macho Man.
@Laura J: I stand corrected about Terlingua’s racing record. However, her career was shortened by a right slab fracture. @Jeanie: Thanks for the info about the need for funds by the 28th at the Valley View Ranch. If enough people send a small amount of money, all those lovely horses can be rescued.
@Abigail from Montreal: Oops, I had a Freudian slip-lol.

@Dawn Conrad: I didn’t realize you were assoicated with Three Chimneys Farm. So sorry about the loss of Rahy, he was so special.
I heard that the energy Zenyatta has can only be compared to Seattle Slew. Did you see Slew at the farm?
And how is my favorite big boy, Big Brown, doing? He was a sight to behold on the track.

Thanks for posting the link to Three Chimneys.
Nice tribute to Rahy. Could not but chuckle at
Paragraph about Blue Buntting’s win. Her jockey said
She was in season and her mind was not on the
Job. “It made my job harder”. TOO CUTE.

What a loving family you have Zenyatta! Thanks for the photos, they are heartwarming!

@Laura J., after I read your post i went back and read my email again from the girl at Lane’s end that does the tours. She told me that We normally don’t offer tours of the farm during the month of September asI am actually at the Keeneland sales most of the month.
I thought as you said that the sales only lasted about 2 weeks. I was really wanting to go to the sales and go to Lane’s End too. I am about 9 hours or a little more away, so when I come I try to do as much as I can while i’m there.
The sales usually don’t start untill about the second week of September (isn’t that right)? So the week before and well I guess the week after would still be Sept. If you hear any more info on this please let me know.
@ Sallie, Hi , I know they do the tours in October but I am not sure about November. I have been in October before so I know they do then.
@Laura J, again, I was just trying to plan a little in advance as I work in a Bank and we have to put our vacations in at the first of the year. Seniority first etc. So I was going to have when I wanted in mind. Seems like I just keep running into bad news.Any Info appreciated.
@Zenny have a wonderful evening. Love, Peggy

I don’t really have a book, but I remember a couple of movies that still haunt me or rather a couple their scenes.
One was a Swedish movie made for kids, two runaways, a boy from a detention facility and a white stallion. And the scene that is still with me, is where both are swimming out into the ocean seeking a better world, and the viewer is left to realize they will never make it.
And the other scene is out of a modern cowboy movie. Cowboys are becoming more and more obsolete, highway constructions, trucking etc. And this young desperado rides the fences of life & fate, and he and his horse get killed during a rain storm on the highway.

@Sunny Boyd & Judy B. — We share books in common, Judy! Sunny: the movie you’re describing sounds like White Mane, except the white stallion was a Camargue wild stallion and the boy was very poor & lived with his grandfather. But it ended exactly like this and has to be the most amazing movie I’ve ever seen about love between humans & horses. Do you think it might be the same movie? White Mane was made by French director Albert Lamorisse (same guy who made The Red Balloon) –I just checked the DVD box — got White Mane for Christmas last year. Before that, I’d never heard of it. Here’s a clip:

JAG–I forwarded the article about the breakdown at Penn National to Barbara Grimaldi for our Equi- Army site. These are the kinds of abuses we are trying to rectify. With many voices, we can be heard.
Good night, precious Z. I wish you could know all the good you have inspired. Love you always.

I’m pretty sure it was a Swedish movie, but may be a re-make?
I checked the video, and I’m definitely sure it was as I said.
The boy in my movie was blonde, and the stallion looked like a TB, beautiful horse.
But stories get picked up, and re-made etc. Either way, good story.

Dear Laura J.:
Jeanie linked the Valley View web page toward the beginning of this Diary. You can donate right there. It has photos of them and it explains the urgency for donations. It’s also been linked on our equi-army-ndo site by Skipper. Hugs, J.B.
