Good Morning,
My JOHN got a chance to download some of his photos last night…so I wanted to share a few of them with you. It has been so exciting seeing everyone. As usual, we always have a great time together.
Here I am whispering ‘sweet thoughts’ into My John’s ear. At this moment, I really gave a great deal of thought to playing the ‘hat game’ with him as well. It was rather windy at this particular time…so I decided to just ‘kiss’ him on the cheek. I have done this so many times in the past. It brought back so many special memories to ME and I know to him!
What a wonderful day we all shared!
This weekend seems to be packed with a great deal of stakes action at several different racing venues. I am particularly interested in the KENT which is on the turf at Delaware Park and the Pennsylvania Derby on the main track at Parx. Both races are for 3 year olds going 1 1/8. It is great to see how horses continue to develop and mature at this stage. I am especially interested in the Parx race as Bernie sired one of the main contenders, TO HONOR AND SERVE.
I must say, I do keep track of ‘his’ horses and how they are performing at the race track. His babies sold very well in the various yearling sales to date and his horses are running very competitively all over the world! This is such GREAT NEWS!
I’m proud of you, BERNIE!
On the West Coast, Fairplex is concluding their meet…and then back to Santa Anita for their Autumn Meet of Racing. Opening day is September 30th. This marks the beginning of a great time of racing on the West Coast as one terrific race meet follows another from this point forward for the next 11 plus months.
I hope you enjoy all of the FUN! Good Luck to all of the horses competing this weekend!
With Love,
Hugs to All~
Z

I just wanted to share this with everyone. After Zenyatta won the classic everyone referred to her win as beating the boys…I always referred to it”as she beat men”. Having been a past member of the CTBA board and having also been involved with racing and breeding for 55 years…it was such a joy to see “the big Z” as I have called her do what she did best and that was winning. Having been the breeder and owner of Brown Bess Eclipse award winner as best turf female in 1989 I can only imagine the pride that Jerry and Ann Moss and the Shireff”s feel when they thnk back to the time when “the big Z” ruled the tracks. Because for me it was only yesterday when Brown Bess was doing her own mark in making history.

Hello Zeny! So excited to see the pictures. You all look so happy. You are so lucky to have such a great family. Hope you and baby are healthy and strong. Hugs and prayers going your way, Marilu

Due to bloodflow issues to the area.

Suzanne,
I loved Brown Bess. Loved the story of her being a wet nurse to the foal and how with her diminutive size, she was such a tough competitor and Eclipse award winner. when she passed, I posed that CTBA article about her on this site. She was a real champ!

@Suzanne Pashayan (breeder/owner of Eclipse Award winner Brown Bess)—Thank you so much for your lovely post recalling the winning ways of “the big Z,” and the joy you felt watching her. We are honored that you shared these thoughts with us, and we offer you our condolences on the recent passing of your beloved champion. RIP, Brown Bess.

To All—You may recall that Brown Bess was a great granddaughter of *Noor. RIP, *Noor.

Hi again everyone,
I HAVE GREAT NEWS! WE ARE ONLY $2,600 SHY OF SAVING THE HORSES AT THE NEVADA FEEDLOT AND ONE ADDITIONAL HORSE HAS BEEN ADDED THAT MARLENE DODGE SAW ON HER LAST TRIP THERE. This is such heartening news. These are beautiful animals that any one of us would love to call our own. Please take a look and reach into your hearts!
HERE IS THE WEB LINK AGAIN:

I may go with Marlene when she picks them up, although I’m not sure I can handle it. She told me the saddest thing to see is a pile of horse shoes on the ground left after the slaughter truck takes off for Canada. Left behind by the doomed horses as they remove their shoes before the ride. Remind you of anything in history? Yeah, that’s what its like…it is so wrong on so many levels. Please do what you can. J

Thanks for the photos, Team Z. The big girl looks as adorable as always. Take care and love to you all!

Thanks for update on MMM works. Can’t wait to
See where he pops up.

@signofthetimes – you’re welcome.
@judy berube – thanks for posting the link about Better Talk Now. When I looked at the photo on the link, I noticed the photographer in the background. I was very fortunate to have been introduced to him by a friend of mine and we were able to be at the starting gate for the Woodford Reserve Manhattan Handicap in 2009. Better Talk Now finished 3rd in that race. I was rooting for him as well as for Gio Ponti. It was his second to last race before retiring. I was also in the infield that day watching Summer Bird win the Belmont Stakes. I’ve been very blessed and fortunate to be able to do this. It made me love and appreciate horseracing even more than I already had.
Congratulations to To Honor and Serve – and a new stakes record too!!!!
RIP Bearpath – he was euthanized this past Friday after suffering complications from a broken shoulder during a race at Saratoga in August: http://www.thoroughbredtimes.com/racing-news/2011/09/23/bearpath-euthanized.aspx

@Laura J.,Nov, is sounding more and more like it might be a good time to visit Kenturky. I appreciate so much your information. I have visited Old Friends a number of times and just love it there. Its funny you should mention Brass Hat becuause I was thinking after they retired him that I would love to see him.
I just love going up there, there is a mare that I would love to see too, don’t know if its possible as she is at Three Chimneys her name is Chapel of Dreams (Terlingua’s Daughter) she is in retiremant. I know Ensign had sad on here that he didn’t know if they would let you see her, but I don’t suppose there is any harm in asking.
@Judy B, I will give them a hug for you.
@Zenny hope you have a wonderful rest of your weekend.
Love to all, Peggy

Dear Signofthetimes:
I hope when MMM does race next, he has some good racing luck. He tries so hard all the time. I really would like to see him win again. Hugs, J.B.

Dear Jeanie:
It’s so ironic that you should ask if it reminds of anything in history. That’s always the connection I make whenever I think of them going to slaughter. I can’t look at photos or watch videos that are graphic. It’s all too much already engraved in my imagination. I’m going to put another donation on my credit card. Hugs, J.B.

Dear Z,
Goodnight and Sweet Baby Dreams. Love you so much, Judy and Russ

@Jeanie—What a devastating detail, the pile of horseshoes left on the ground after the horses are sent off to slaughter. You can be sure I’ve dug deep to help Marlene Dodge get this group to safety. I especially love #4, the little arab gelding (“very gentle, loves people and attention, will always meet you at the gate, would be great for anyone”),Bless you and Marlene for your efforts.

@Suzanne Pashayan
Thanks so much for posting about your great mare. I found a wonderful article on her “mothering” instinct which were so special and familial as you said in the article. What a beautiful
mare. So small and mighty.

@signofthetimes – Thanks for the link on Brown Bess, that was wonderful, I had no idea how her becoming a foster-mare would happen.

Good Morning, Zenyatta. Bet you were excited to hear that “To Honor and Serve” set a record in Pennsylvania. We can only imagine what records Baby Z will break one day. Stay healthy and happy. Love your hat trick and maybe next time that John visits, Dottie will share a video of you two. Love ya.
Doreen
@All – here’s the latest that I could find on Banned’s surgery. It went well and he’s back in his stall. He’s been a very cooperative patient which helps out a lot. I hope he has an uneventful and a full recovery. http://www.paulickreport.com/news/people/bernick-banned-just-took-a-funny-step/
