Good Morning,

I’m hearing from MY TEAM that ‘working the sale’ requires a great deal of effort, hard work, concentration, and energy! They get up very early each morning and leave for the sales grounds. By that time, David and his crew have already gone over ALL of the horses to be offered that day and come up with the ‘short list’ which Dottie, John and The Moss’ review. All aspects of the individuals are evaluated: conformation, size, pedigree, walk, and other physical qualities! Monitoring the horse’s overall temperament is also a part of this process.

Each horse on this list is inspected. If they make this ‘cut’, the veterinarian then examines the horse and his / her xrays in the repository. The VET also scopes the horse’s throat to be sure “all parts are working well’ for good breathing to take place. A good throat is essential for a race horse!

Once a horse passes all of these steps, the decision is made as to the fair market value of the horse. As many of you may know, at an auction people can get caught up in the bidding. MY TEAM tries to be very careful not to do this. They thoroughly appraise each horse before the bidding begins and really try to stay within those limits while bidding.

If all goes well and the hammer falls while a particular HIP they are bidding on is in the ring, they sign the ticket and he or she is now a part of the racing stable!

Attending a sale as this one, is really a fun process…but truthfully a great deal of hard work. Every moment of every day while there is totally consumed with the SALE. It is all about planning for the future and getting the RIGHT HORSE for the program!

As you can see, BABY REAGAN is resting up for all of the company and activity this week. I think she wants to stay up a bit late on Monday night to see my relative, HIP # 147 sell! I do too!

By the way, HRTV is carrying the first few sessions live on their programming schedule. Otherwise, the internet is the best way to follow the events.

HMMM! This baby thing is rather interesting to ME! Reagan was born on March 7th, 2011. That is about the time MY BABY is due in 2012! I just didn’t realize human babies are so small! They told ME my baby will weigh about 125 pounds or so when he/she is born.) This becoming a MOM is really a fascinating process! I’m learning!

Enjoy the week, the racing, and the sales! Dottie is attending them this week and also spending time visiting with ME! When she returns home, we will update you on all of the action. She also promises that MY JOHN will take some terrific photos of ME to share with all of you!

    @Rosemary McCauley-Us rednecks don’t feel so bad about Smokey and the Bandit but we are livid that the same thing happened to Deliverance. @Doreen-Civil war history is a passion of mine. Everywhere that I have lived I have made sure that I visited the various historical sites pertaining to that conflict. I have not lived in Virginia, but I sure enjoyed the time I spent visiting that beautiful state. There is history everywhere. Arlington is a favorite place of mine. The fact that it is Robert E. Lee’s old mansion just adds to it. The official reason that the US government was able to seize that land was non-payment of taxes.

    @Terry Crow – I love history, especially American History. I was stationed at Andrews Air Force Base back in the late 1990s and was so close to it all. However, I never visited the historic sites because my 2 children were too young to comprehend it all (3 and 5 years old at the time – when I was first arrived there), so I missed my opportunity to enjoy it with them. I guess I’ll just have to visit the sites when I retire.

    @Doreen-How interesting. A friend of mine was a chaplain in the Air Force and was assigned the Arlington “duty.” There was a representative from each branch of the armed forces there for each funeral at Arlington. A lot of burials were of the solitary kind because often family members could not make it there and, at time, the weather was awful. The armed forces representatives always did everything that should be done to honor the fallen hero even though no one was present to see it. Kind of reinforces your faith that all is as it should be. I always enjoyed visiting Washington, D.C. as I had made friends with people in the congressional offices in California because of what I used to do for a living and it was always fun to visit their colleagues in Washington and bring them greetings. However, let’s face it. Even when Congress is supposed to be in session there are very few of them actually there. Take your kids to the National Zoo instead. They’ll enjoy it more.

    Hi Zenyatta. Just love the Z blanket in pink and blue; Baby Reagan is gorgeous! So glad to hear that you will be seeing your family from California. What a wonderful treat for everyone. Wow, can’t wait to see all of John’s pictures of you with your baby bump – too cute. This is such an interesting diary on the Keenland sale. Looking forward to seeing hip #147. Love you big girl, stay comfy, eat well for two and have loads of fun with TT and all of your barnyard friends. Love to your visiting family.

    @Barbara Wood-The point to that story, which I did not adequately convey, was that I interacted with several people that day and not one person mentioned the attack. I was completely dumbfounded when I turned on the TV. I thought that the station was playing a joke on everybody, kind of like Orson Welles’ Halloween broadcast War of the Worlds.

    What a beautiful baby girl and such a lovely blanket. I am really out of the Z loop as I do not know Reagan’s story and how it relates to Zenyatta’s family. Would love to know. Or is she the daughter, grand daughterof one of your devoted fans? Darling, darling baby and your’s will be cute too, just bigger!

    @Terry Crow– I see now. I was thinking that that could easily happen to me, since I never turn on the tv until evening. If you’re a history fan, I’ll bet you’re familiar with Jeff Shaara’s books. I wrote him once and thanked him and got a nice reply back.
    Lucky ducks in Lexington. We’re back in the 100’s in TX.
