Good Morning,
I’m hearing from MY TEAM that ‘working the sale’ requires a great deal of effort, hard work, concentration, and energy! They get up very early each morning and leave for the sales grounds. By that time, David and his crew have already gone over ALL of the horses to be offered that day and come up with the ‘short list’ which Dottie, John and The Moss’ review. All aspects of the individuals are evaluated: conformation, size, pedigree, walk, and other physical qualities! Monitoring the horse’s overall temperament is also a part of this process.
Each horse on this list is inspected. If they make this ‘cut’, the veterinarian then examines the horse and his / her xrays in the repository. The VET also scopes the horse’s throat to be sure “all parts are working well’ for good breathing to take place. A good throat is essential for a race horse!
Once a horse passes all of these steps, the decision is made as to the fair market value of the horse. As many of you may know, at an auction people can get caught up in the bidding. MY TEAM tries to be very careful not to do this. They thoroughly appraise each horse before the bidding begins and really try to stay within those limits while bidding.
If all goes well and the hammer falls while a particular HIP they are bidding on is in the ring, they sign the ticket and he or she is now a part of the racing stable!
Attending a sale as this one, is really a fun process…but truthfully a great deal of hard work. Every moment of every day while there is totally consumed with the SALE. It is all about planning for the future and getting the RIGHT HORSE for the program!
As you can see, BABY REAGAN is resting up for all of the company and activity this week. I think she wants to stay up a bit late on Monday night to see my relative, HIP # 147 sell! I do too!
By the way, HRTV is carrying the first few sessions live on their programming schedule. Otherwise, the internet is the best way to follow the events.
HMMM! This baby thing is rather interesting to ME! Reagan was born on March 7th, 2011. That is about the time MY BABY is due in 2012! I just didn’t realize human babies are so small! They told ME my baby will weigh about 125 pounds or so when he/she is born.) This becoming a MOM is really a fascinating process! I’m learning!
Enjoy the week, the racing, and the sales! Dottie is attending them this week and also spending time visiting with ME! When she returns home, we will update you on all of the action. She also promises that MY JOHN will take some terrific photos of ME to share with all of you!
With Love,
Hugs to All~(To my dear fan who made the Z BLANKET as a thank you….THANK YOU! It is absolutely priceless!)

@Signofthetimes: I didn’t know that about A.P. Indy. But I can understand why I wouldn’t know. He was foaled in 1989 (You peaked my interest and I “Googled” him) which is right around the time I became more of a casual observer of horse racing and not the intense racehorse crazy girl I had been in my teens and twenties (that was also the year I got married, so my energy was going in different places). My Bloodhorse magazines piled up unread and I finally cancelled my subscription. I still paid attention to the big races and even went to the track a few times, but I never came close to being as engaged as I had been. And then along came Zenyatta and my interest and love for the sport sprouted wings again. But back to A.P. Indy what an amazing story. Wikipedia notes that he was the top-priced yearling of 1990 at $2.9M, so based on you telling me he had surgery as a two-year old that means he went through the sale as a ridgling. A.P. Indy, a champion and sire of sires.

I really enjoyed reading the article about Ann and Jerry finding our Zenny. Thanks for supplying the link. This little diary is such a great place for sharing everything about The Queen and links to articles are a huge part of it. I always felt that Ann holds a special place in her heart for Zenny. To think as a yearling Zen placed her head over Ann’s shoulder during the yearling sale just brings tears to my eyes. Even then she had a beautiful connection to people, no doubt because of the nurturing she received from the beginning of her life. Ann has always said Zen is a treasure. There aren’t better words to describe her.

Dear Signofhetimes:
Mr.Denman is wonderful too. His calls in both the 2009 BCC and especially the 2010 BCC were fabulous. He was willing Z to pass Blame as we all were. Hugs, J.B.

Love the commentary about Winter Memories. She is definately
A great talent. Once loose she just flew by everyone with grace and
Ease, no whip, just hand ride.

Dear Signofthetimes:
Winter Memories is really unique. Some horses you hold back like that when they want to go, won’t come back when they’re asked to. She’s got an amazing burst of speed (really reminded me of Z). Z was so willing to try in the 2010 BCC and made up all those lengths. Really something. Hugs, J.B.

@signofthetimes-Are you relating past incidents? NO need, you’re already in. @quarterhossgal-Hope he enjoys it. Here is one for today, sort of a combination redneck and regular–Bonnie Sue passed away and Billy-Bob called 911. The 911 opeerator told Billy-Bob that she would send some help. She asked him “Where do you live?” Billy-Bob replied “At the end of Eucalyptus Drive.” The operator then said “Can you spell that for me?” There was a long pause and finally Billy-Bob said “How about if I drag her to Oak Street and you can pick her up there.”

Happy Sunday night, Zenny! Hope it has been a great weekend for you! Hugs and kisses on your velvet nose!
@s(in San Diego): Thanks so much for the updates and also, for the wonderful work you do. Bless you!
@Marty R.: Thanks for the fishing/axe joke–very funny! Take care and best wishes for continued good health!
@Terry Crow: What a gift of laughter you give us each day! Thanks again! All the Best!
@All Z’sters: Thank you everyone for the great posts! Goodnight and pleasant dreams to all!

@judy berube: I echo Terry Crow’s words of thanks for the J.O. Tobin link. I was so ill from a recent surgery on the day he ran, that I had to take public transport to get to the racetrack, and acted against doctor’s orders. I would not have missed it that race for love or money. I can still see that exquisitely-made piece of nearly black horseflesh leading the pack as he entered the stretch, his mass of heavy mane rippling in the wind. “I did but see him passing by, and yet I wil love him ’till I die.”

Dear Zenny,
Hope you have had a great week with your Family and sound like you have some new young stable mates to counsel and help learn their lessons in a few months. So excited about your lil sis’s latest work. She may just show some early talent. Hope you also relaxed with TT and ate that healthy kentucky blue grass, carrots and other healthy fruits. Sweet Dreams XXXXXOOOOO

Oh, yes past incident that would go along with your theme of throwing up. Really love it and could not resist to add a few choice incidents from my younger days.

@Judy B
Oh yes, some of the horses get mad; like Unbridled Humor today. Grant Motion said she was a filly with her own mind; Joel Rosario was riding her and trying to hold her in second and she was pulling; he gave in and she won wire to wire; Winter Memories must be very easy to get along with as she was pretty bunched up; did not get mad just exploded. In the BCC 2010 Mike said he had to check Z pretty hard behind Quality Road; and she just came back to him; he guided her out and she exploded. Everyone all day on HRTV has been talking about that race and replaying it (Winter Memories).

Great Billy Bob joke !!!

Dear Signofthetimes:
Winter Memories really ran an amazing race. You have to love the heart and courage these beautiful animals possess and how willing they are to please. They all deserve love and respect. Hugs, J.B.

My dear Z friends: Thank you SO MUCH for all your warm wishes and empathy for our recent loss. It is sinking in now but all the support has REALLY helped. You all are the BEST!
@Brenda: Thank you for sharing your ordeal. Wow- sounds awful. Some of the things you talked about were very familiar to me. I also did neurofeedback off and on for about…well, I can’t remember-haha. Seems like maybe 4-5 years? It really helped me, too. I will have to contact you off-site so we can compare notes. One memory I lost that just kills me is I apparently saw the Beatles in concert in Chicago and have no recollection! I thought my mom was kidding me when she brought it up. Shoot!
@Peggy N and Marty: Praying for the “all clear” for both of you.
@Sharon in Seattle: Thank you for sharing your painful story and I hope you are feeling well. <3
@Amanda Gilliland: So glad to see you back! I so hope things are going well for you and your family. <3
I know I am not nearly caught up but I will get there. Warm wishes to all. <3

@Kari B: Thought of you while I watched the UT game-ouch! I think Tyler Bray is going to be a very fine quarterback. Hope you are feeling well. <3
@LouAnn Cingel: Thinking of you and hope you are doing okay. <3
@S(san diego): Love what you are doing!

@Barbara G: I emailed the deputy about that horse.
