Good Morning,
I’m hearing from MY TEAM that ‘working the sale’ requires a great deal of effort, hard work, concentration, and energy! They get up very early each morning and leave for the sales grounds. By that time, David and his crew have already gone over ALL of the horses to be offered that day and come up with the ‘short list’ which Dottie, John and The Moss’ review. All aspects of the individuals are evaluated: conformation, size, pedigree, walk, and other physical qualities! Monitoring the horse’s overall temperament is also a part of this process.
Each horse on this list is inspected. If they make this ‘cut’, the veterinarian then examines the horse and his / her xrays in the repository. The VET also scopes the horse’s throat to be sure “all parts are working well’ for good breathing to take place. A good throat is essential for a race horse!
Once a horse passes all of these steps, the decision is made as to the fair market value of the horse. As many of you may know, at an auction people can get caught up in the bidding. MY TEAM tries to be very careful not to do this. They thoroughly appraise each horse before the bidding begins and really try to stay within those limits while bidding.
If all goes well and the hammer falls while a particular HIP they are bidding on is in the ring, they sign the ticket and he or she is now a part of the racing stable!
Attending a sale as this one, is really a fun process…but truthfully a great deal of hard work. Every moment of every day while there is totally consumed with the SALE. It is all about planning for the future and getting the RIGHT HORSE for the program!
As you can see, BABY REAGAN is resting up for all of the company and activity this week. I think she wants to stay up a bit late on Monday night to see my relative, HIP # 147 sell! I do too!
By the way, HRTV is carrying the first few sessions live on their programming schedule. Otherwise, the internet is the best way to follow the events.
HMMM! This baby thing is rather interesting to ME! Reagan was born on March 7th, 2011. That is about the time MY BABY is due in 2012! I just didn’t realize human babies are so small! They told ME my baby will weigh about 125 pounds or so when he/she is born.) This becoming a MOM is really a fascinating process! I’m learning!
Enjoy the week, the racing, and the sales! Dottie is attending them this week and also spending time visiting with ME! When she returns home, we will update you on all of the action. She also promises that MY JOHN will take some terrific photos of ME to share with all of you!
With Love,
Hugs to All~(To my dear fan who made the Z BLANKET as a thank you….THANK YOU! It is absolutely priceless!)

Dottie and Zenyatta thank you so much for the horse sales information. Decided to watch and thought it interesting how the bidding goes when the horse is a cribber or ridgling. I’ll have to do some research to see if any great horses were either. Have a safe trip home and Zenyatta stay healthy and happy.

Keeneland Sales Session 7 underway. Hip numbers are into the 1600’s and six more Sessions to go this week. That’s a lot of yearlings and not one gets to come home to me.

@Delrene, I will look for the article. and will ask around and make a couple of calls. I live in Carmel Mountain and my back yard is a golf course, so unfortunatly I don’t have the ability to bring them home either. The horses I have been fortunate to help, I have just read or heard about. I do have some friends in Temecula and Murrietta, so I will give them a call this afternoon. Not “horse people” but one has neighbors who are.
So far I have just been a “small financial helper” (I bail them out, so to speak)in the effort, the real thanks goes out to those who go to the auctions, hear about horses and respond. I was amazed how attached I became to the 2 horses, even though I knew I would never meet or touch them. My goal is to be able to be part of that effort.
Off to church! Have a Blessed Day everyone.

@Delrene, found the article and will call Riverside on Monday morning and get more info on the mare. Will do my best to help her find a new home or support her till she is placed. I do not have alot of money but try and put a little away each month for this exact reason. Will be praying for a happy ending for her and all the others they have been finding. So very sad. Thank you for making us aware of her and the situation.
Now…really off to church :)

Dear Anne from Paramount, CA:
That was one of his best. Did you notice lately how his voice fails him at times. I think that was one of the reasons he chose not to call the Triple Crown Races. A lot of years as a wonderful caller of races taking its toll. Hugs, J.B.

Interesting information today on HRTV talking heads.
Jockeys often bury turf horses in the pack to settle
Them and then take them out and expect an explosive
Turn of foot to win. I was wondering how she got in the
Same position as last race. Thought she might have placed
Herself there. Comments during race were how he was
Holding her back to save “horse”. She is one very talented
Turf filly— like mother Luke daughter; hope Zenny has
This luck. Also Javier said he knew she was going to win,
Guess he knew he had a lot of horse lift and she has
An amazing turn of foot to get from back to front of pack.
Interesting tribute to AK sire, who stands in Fla.

@Judy Berube, Trina Nagele, signofthetimes and Vicki B-Glad you enjoyed the joke. @Judy Berube-Thanks for the link to J.O. Tobin. He is deservedly identified as a thoroughbred champion. @Cynthia H-Thank you. @signofthetimes-Thank your for the link to the 1998 BCC. What a field! I had forgotten that Silver Charm wa in the race. @Delrene and S in San Diego-You should contact Barbara Grimaldi about this. This is what her new web site is all about. @Lil in KY-The ducks said quack whenever the doctor showed up at the farm. I will post a joke later as I am leaving for awhile. You might be a redneck if you’ve ever thrown up in a squad car.

Good Sunday Queen Z.
Terry C: will have to pass the golfing joke on to my priest, so far he has loved your jokes.
I saw Cigar race in his last race, he was a champion in heart and spirit, just a little tired in body! Every time I visit Kentucky I stop by the Horse Park to see him and Da Hoss. Cigar still had attitude and DaHoss is a sweetie!

@s (in San Diego– thank you so much for the updates. We need to hear those success stories!
@Vicki B–thanks for the French links. There really is a website for everything.
@Trina N–thanks for the heads up about the horse and man blog. I’m saving all those but haven’t gotten to them yet. You know what’s keeping me busy–lol!
DJ
To Barbara W: I will look into the movie ‘Seven Days in Utopia!’ I have always enjoyed Robert Duvall films. Thank you..I trust your win! win! advice :)

Just heard the following sales pitch from the Keeneland Auctioneer “She’s live, she’s in the ring.” Made me giggle.
Barbara Wood
@signofthetimes–well put! I love your “I don’t know how much clearer he could be than not leaving the starting gate.”
Especially Horses
@Anyone: We’ve had some ridglings go through the sales ring.
–
Questions: By the time a colt is a yearling is there still a chance the un-descended testicle will drop? At what age can you assume it will not descend? Is this a genetic pre-disposition that runs in families? Can a ridgling still sire foals? How does being a ridgling impact a runner? Is it just better to geld the ridgling and be done with it?
Signofthetimes
@Kendra
A very well known champion on the track and
In the shed was a ridgeling AP Indy.
Signofthetimes
@Especially Horses
All of those questions depend on the individual
Horses. AP Indy had a lot of pain when he ran and
Had surgery as a two year old. If they have no problem
May not need to do anything, big issue is fertility. I think
AP Indy is the very outlying exception. I would think
Statistically that most would have issues with sperm
Shape, size, number and availability.

We all love Shack, I hate to see a horse with
Such tenacity and stubbornness, plus a cute personality
Not be successful. He is soo cute with. Great personality
And when he is happy like a speeding bullet on the track.

@DJ
Such a beautiful and applicable prayer.
Thanks for finding this wonderful verse.

@Terry Crow
What about throwing up on the side of a car or
Out the window of a car with throw up flying onto
The side of the car???? Red Neck???
Signofthetimes
@Quarterhossgal
I bet Cigar has an attitude with that success and
Determination heart and shear desire and perseverance
To win, one would definately have an attitude as he knows
He is special.

Yes, I loved Tom Durkins call yesterday at Garden Stakes.
I really enjoy Trevor Denman, too.
