Good Morning,
I’m hearing from MY TEAM that ‘working the sale’ requires a great deal of effort, hard work, concentration, and energy! They get up very early each morning and leave for the sales grounds. By that time, David and his crew have already gone over ALL of the horses to be offered that day and come up with the ‘short list’ which Dottie, John and The Moss’ review. All aspects of the individuals are evaluated: conformation, size, pedigree, walk, and other physical qualities! Monitoring the horse’s overall temperament is also a part of this process.
Each horse on this list is inspected. If they make this ‘cut’, the veterinarian then examines the horse and his / her xrays in the repository. The VET also scopes the horse’s throat to be sure “all parts are working well’ for good breathing to take place. A good throat is essential for a race horse!
Once a horse passes all of these steps, the decision is made as to the fair market value of the horse. As many of you may know, at an auction people can get caught up in the bidding. MY TEAM tries to be very careful not to do this. They thoroughly appraise each horse before the bidding begins and really try to stay within those limits while bidding.
If all goes well and the hammer falls while a particular HIP they are bidding on is in the ring, they sign the ticket and he or she is now a part of the racing stable!
Attending a sale as this one, is really a fun process…but truthfully a great deal of hard work. Every moment of every day while there is totally consumed with the SALE. It is all about planning for the future and getting the RIGHT HORSE for the program!
As you can see, BABY REAGAN is resting up for all of the company and activity this week. I think she wants to stay up a bit late on Monday night to see my relative, HIP # 147 sell! I do too!
By the way, HRTV is carrying the first few sessions live on their programming schedule. Otherwise, the internet is the best way to follow the events.
HMMM! This baby thing is rather interesting to ME! Reagan was born on March 7th, 2011. That is about the time MY BABY is due in 2012! I just didn’t realize human babies are so small! They told ME my baby will weigh about 125 pounds or so when he/she is born.) This becoming a MOM is really a fascinating process! I’m learning!
Enjoy the week, the racing, and the sales! Dottie is attending them this week and also spending time visiting with ME! When she returns home, we will update you on all of the action. She also promises that MY JOHN will take some terrific photos of ME to share with all of you!
With Love,
Hugs to All~(To my dear fan who made the Z BLANKET as a thank you….THANK YOU! It is absolutely priceless!)

I don’t know when the next diary entry will be made so here is the joke of the day. It is rather short so I may post one later if I get back from the hospital in time–There was a doctor who started a practice in the area that we call “the country,” but the way I originally heard it it was the countryside in Poland. He once had to go to a farm to attend a sick farmer who lived there. After a few housecalls, he stopped coming to the farm. The puzzled farmer phoned him to ask what’s the matter? Didn’t he like him or something? The doctor said “No, its your ducks at the entrance to the farm. Every time I enter the farm, they insult me.”

OK, which one of you Judy’s made a fb page for Judy The Beauty?!!! I couldn’t stop laughing when I saw it, thinking how funny if one of you really did make it.
Barbara Grimaldi, good for you for going to that conference. I’ll be most interested to hear all about it. You are one busy lady.
Especially Horses
@JAG. Thanks for posting that link.

Loved this part of the article:
–
“She’s really very happy, She always liked to graze (at the track) and now she thinks it’s her personal job to mow the pasture. You just can’t be unhappy around her.”
“We have high hopes she’ll have a foal that will be exceptional,” Jerry finished.
When asked if the Mosses were planning to keep “Baby Z,” Ann replied, “Absolutely.”
Paul
Zenyatta, when your foal is born, at 125 pounds or so, it will weigh as much as some fully grown women. That is really amazing. He/she will grow and gain weight in practically no time. Your foal will probably be winning races before long as well. Horses, like with other animals, grow and mature much faster than people do. Your foal may well become a clone of you, except younger. Keep taking care of yourself and the unborn foal until March of 2012. I look forward to that time. I can’t wait to see pictures of it after it is born and to watch it grow.
Brenda
Judy and Terry you guys are too sweet. I just wanted Tiny’s mom to know that cutting edge technology exists that retrains the brain to function almost as well as it as it did prior to injury. Neurofeedback also works for autism and Parkinson’s.
But back to Zenny! Jag, Great article- thanks for posting! Did you see where the Southern California Thoroughbred Rescue has an e-Bay auction with some sweet pictures of Zenny? They are signed by JS, MS and others. The auction ends this weekend, with the net proceeds benefiting SCTR’s 30 TB Rescues (SCTR is entirely volunteer 501-C-3) Here’s the e-Bay link:

It’s so cool that Zenny is retired, yet always the philanthropist!
Brenda S..
Dear Zenny, How wonderful to hear that as well as preparing to be a mommy you think it’s your job to mow all that healthy blue grass which is very good for Baby Z. We are all missing new pictures and updates but understand that Dottie is very busy and that you are enjoying your time with your family who were busy today buying a filly to join the family. Looking forward to hearing from you soon, let us know what the new filly is going be called and if she will be going to YOUR JOHN.

@ALL Z’STERS—–WOW! what an exciting evening! I went to the UK seminar and met Z’s family!! We had a nice turnout. Jerry & Ann gave interesting talks about their lives, how they met & how they happened to get into the horse business and of course the subject of Zenny was much discussed.John & Dottie arrived a little late, to thunderous applause! We had a question & answer session, which was most interesting, I asked if they intended to keep little Z, Ann answered, “Absolutely”
They are all such lovely people, I really felt honored to meet them. Dottie & I had our picture made together, she noticed I was wearing my Dumpling tag.
My daughter & her husband are taking in all.
the sales, she told me the Mosses bought a filly today

Hey Z fans! This is the URL to my blog! I would really love it if you would check it out sometime! I post stuff about movies, books, insperational quotes, and of course, our own Zenyatta. Please come and see it sometime and pass it along to your friends if you like it! Feel free to comment as well! Thanks a billion!

@msnap—–Dottie is busy at the sales, so she doesn’t have time to post. I’m sure she will after the sales are over.
Ann told me that Zenny looked wonderful & was doing great. I’m sure Dottie will be telling us all about Zen’s visit with her family in her next post.
@ZEN—-I know why you love your family so much, they are great!! Sweet dreams to you & little Z.XOXOXOXO

Love Jerry Bailey, too. So interesting the champion

My dog’s obedience trainer has the cutest border

And I sent her a lovely link to Switch TB race horse
And her videos, everyone at the training center
Loved it.

@Amanda G.–welcome back!
@Kari Bussell– loved tour Z/Cigar videos. When we were at KHP, we thought Cigar looked Great. I did not know the dog had a name. Yes, he was a hound with long ears. Is that SMikey?? Next time I’ll realize he’s famous.
(Marshall (girl’s name)–thanks. No rain so far, but some part of Tx had some.
@Brenda–I’m so glad you’re better –what a nightmare of therapy, etc.
@Terry Crow– I agree with you about the history.
ALL: any news from Peggy(N)?
Is DJ on vacation? I miss the prayers.

Thanks for the great update, if you have time
To post some details from the talk, I am sure
We would all love hear them. I think the only way
Others are going to get horses related to Zenny
Will be through her dam or siblings or sire/ sibling
Breeding. Don’t think The Mosses will part with
Any of Zenny’s homebred. Maybe their children.

@JAG
Love the link of lecture with The Mosses in
KY.
Interesting talk about Goldi on Race for the Cup
On HRTV. Jeff Segiel said age has taken a step
Back in euro races, but she loves Churchill and
Euro races are no comparison to her racing in the
US. She loves two turns and gets great acceleration
Around the last turn and Freddy Head says she loves
to travel. It is much harder to run the straight up and
Down mile in Euro due to breathing during that type
Of races. More ability to breath going around two turns.
Never thought about that. GOOD LUCK GOLDIE!!!

So You Think is going to the Arc in France
Depending on the ground. Still a question
For BC race. He would be first southern
Hemisphere horse to win the Arc if that
Happens.
Really love Winter Memories, hope she wins.
What a great name!!!

@Dearest Brenda—What an amazing life story you shared with us today! Lightening striking twice, so to speak, then all those years of partial recovery, followed by stupendous improvement in record time with neurofeedback therapy. I’ll share this with a friend who is still recovering from TBI from a car accident where she was run off the road by another driver and her vehicle rolled into a ditch. Bless you for all you have been through. I’m so glad Mrs. Moss grabbed you and took you with her into the winner’s circle for Zenny’s 19th victory, and so sorry you weren’t able to use those BC tickets you had for ’08 and ’09. Most of all, I’m glad you’re doing so well now. High hoof and hoof ray for you! Thanks for sharing.
@Denise in AZ—Interesting post about the Little Big Horn battlefield, and great redneck joke.
@Barbara Grimaldi—Hope you meet some more Z-sters at the conference and that it provides good information on how we can promote horse welfare.
@Doreen —Great info on the Mosses’ newest filly. Hoof ray!
@Terry Crow—Neat inter-species communication joke, and great redneck lines.
@JAG—Great link about the first three winners on Sept 11 at Belmont being the 9, 1, and 1! And I LOVE the interview with the Mosses—thanks for posting!
@Rosemary McCauley—Great redneck joke.
@To all who commented on the poems—Thank you so much!
Terry Crow
@Cynthia H-I understand. That is just the way I heard the joke many years ago. @Brenda-Your story is inspirational. @Lil in KY-Great that you got to meet the Mosses. Sounds like you had a great time. Bonus joke–A doctor is talking to a redneck woman. “You just had your 12th baby. What are you going to name this one?” “Phil,” she said. The doctor replied “But you named the last 11 Phil.” She says “Yeah, its great. I’ll say ‘Phil go clean your room’ and they all clean their rooms. I say ‘Phil come to dinner,’ and they all come to dinner.” The doctor then said “But what if you only want only one of them to follow an order?” She then said, “Oh, then I call them by their last name.”
Trina Nagele
@Signofthetimes—Thanks for the discussion about Goldikova. Go, Goldi, Go!
@Barbara Wood—It’s next week that Peggy (N) will speak with her doctor about test results.
Trina Nagele
@Lil in KY—I’m so happy for you getting to not only hear the Mosses but meet them too! And it was YOU who asked if they will keep little ZB! I loved Mrs. Moss’s answer: “Absolutely!” What did she say about your Dumpling tag, if I may ask?
Trina Nagele
@Amanda Gilliland— So good to see you posting again. We know you have been dealing with the consequences of your sister-in-law experiencing the return and spread of cancer. You all have been in our thoughts and prayers. Hugs to you.
@Brenda—Thanks for the link to the Southern California Thoroughbred Rescue e-Bay auction with the pictures of Zenyatta.

Thanks so much for all my friends sending me well wishes, Anne, Kim, Barbara, Judy, Dawn(My Sis) Trina, Alexandra, Marshall, Everyone. I hope so I haven’t missed anyone, If I did please forgive me.
I am so hoping for a good report.

@ LauraJ
thanks for the info. I know Secretariat was retired, but too bad, they couldn’t have waited with that, I bet if allowed & no restriction he could have won another triple.
Why the restriction on older horses to try for the triple? Why 3 yrs old? Are horses only then mature enough?
Thanks.
@ Denise in AZ
I have been to the Custer Battlefield on the Crow Res.
It’s an eerie place, I felt a heaviness all around. It was such a still place. Too many spirits.
That takes me back to a really neat horse story.
I think we were at Crow Agency, I took my little dog for a walk early in the morning. It was still March, cool & dry. Right where we stayed, there was a dried out creek bed and a small land bridge crossing right by the house. So that’s what I decided to take, the land bridge. It was however the only connection to get back to the other side of the creek. We were crossing the bridge and reached the other side, when I noticed a movement. The creek bed was lined with shrubbery and small trees etc., tall dried out grass. When I inspected closer I realized that the movement was the flicking of a horse’s ear, and not only was it in the creek bed but an entire herd. I high-tailed back to the land bridge and called my dog very quietly and rushed across the bridge. I know the Crows let their horses run loose, they don’t tie’em up. So those horses were various properties of some of the guys living around there. It was the coolest thing to see an entire herd in the creek bed, and also scarry.
