Good Morning,
I’m hearing from MY TEAM that ‘working the sale’ requires a great deal of effort, hard work, concentration, and energy! They get up very early each morning and leave for the sales grounds. By that time, David and his crew have already gone over ALL of the horses to be offered that day and come up with the ‘short list’ which Dottie, John and The Moss’ review. All aspects of the individuals are evaluated: conformation, size, pedigree, walk, and other physical qualities! Monitoring the horse’s overall temperament is also a part of this process.
Each horse on this list is inspected. If they make this ‘cut’, the veterinarian then examines the horse and his / her xrays in the repository. The VET also scopes the horse’s throat to be sure “all parts are working well’ for good breathing to take place. A good throat is essential for a race horse!
Once a horse passes all of these steps, the decision is made as to the fair market value of the horse. As many of you may know, at an auction people can get caught up in the bidding. MY TEAM tries to be very careful not to do this. They thoroughly appraise each horse before the bidding begins and really try to stay within those limits while bidding.
If all goes well and the hammer falls while a particular HIP they are bidding on is in the ring, they sign the ticket and he or she is now a part of the racing stable!
Attending a sale as this one, is really a fun process…but truthfully a great deal of hard work. Every moment of every day while there is totally consumed with the SALE. It is all about planning for the future and getting the RIGHT HORSE for the program!
As you can see, BABY REAGAN is resting up for all of the company and activity this week. I think she wants to stay up a bit late on Monday night to see my relative, HIP # 147 sell! I do too!
By the way, HRTV is carrying the first few sessions live on their programming schedule. Otherwise, the internet is the best way to follow the events.
HMMM! This baby thing is rather interesting to ME! Reagan was born on March 7th, 2011. That is about the time MY BABY is due in 2012! I just didn’t realize human babies are so small! They told ME my baby will weigh about 125 pounds or so when he/she is born.) This becoming a MOM is really a fascinating process! I’m learning!
Enjoy the week, the racing, and the sales! Dottie is attending them this week and also spending time visiting with ME! When she returns home, we will update you on all of the action. She also promises that MY JOHN will take some terrific photos of ME to share with all of you!
With Love,
Hugs to All~(To my dear fan who made the Z BLANKET as a thank you….THANK YOU! It is absolutely priceless!)

@Judy Berube-Along with Boston, George Custer’s brother GTom was also killed in that battle. Tom Custer is unique in the fact that he is one of only a handful of men who have received two medals of honor. The remains of the 7th cavalry were dug up some time after the battle. George Custer is buried at West Point while the rest of his company which was killed is buried at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. There were survivors, but that’s another story.

Thanks every body, for wishing me happy birthday, hugs and kisses Ingrid.

@Laura J(?) I’ll never forget George Washington going down in the BC several years ago.
@Terry Crow–yes, that was the title. That’s where I learned about Robert E. Lee’s participation. Also, I had not known until I visited there that he built (or participated in the building of) Fort Pulaski.

Hi there,
Yes, I’m the Patricia that wrote about my visit to Loma Rica Ranch telling Noor to be patient. While I would love to see the message on Facebook, I sadly am not on Facebook. MUST get my kids to show me how!!!

@Barbara Wood-It is a great read. Lee wass quite a soldier. Hard to believe that he was only a colonel when the civil was started and only ranked third of all the soldiers who committed to the confederacy. Jefferson Davis was a stickler for the formality of rank, which was not a good thing for the south. His favorite was Albert Sidney Johnston, who died at Shiloh. It is also interesting that Lee was the only cadet in West Point history who graduated without a single demerit. Later served as superintendent of the academy. Lee only became commander of the Army of Northern Virginia because Joseph E. Johnston, no relation to Albert, was wounded. As a field general, he proved himself vastly superior to those two men but was only in charge of the Virgina militia at the beginning. It is also a little known fact that Lee was offered the command of the union army right before succession. I guess Lincoln thought more of him than Davis did.

Dear Terry Crow:
Interesting stuff. How many survivors were there? I thought only some of the (Lakota) Sioux survived that battle. Hugs, J.B.

Dear Sharon Call:
Russ and I went through the same experience with our 17 year old Poodle Girl, Gina, in 2000. I felt afterwards that I probably waited too long. But when I knew she was not comfortable anymore, we took the long ride to the vet. It’s a difficult decision, but one you must make out of love so they do not suffer. Hugs, J.B.

Hi Patricia,
It is to let you (and others) know that Noor’s remains (including teeth and Skull) were recovered, 90% is now resting at Old Friends…You do not have to be on FB to see the site…just type in Noor In Memory Of A Champion and it should take you right there…Archaeologist Erin Dwyer has a great explanation on the Noor site…if you can not get it, please have your kids access it…Charlotte wanted you to know that he is there at Old Friends pretty much in entirety and was touched by your post on Sept, 6…Thank you!

@Susan in TN: Tiny sounds like a big precious darlin’ boy who loved you like crazy. You’ll see him again and in the meantime, he’ll be your guardian angel doggie.
Terry Crow
@Judy Berube-It was only Custer’s command that was killed in its entirety, except for one lone horse, who is now on display at the University of Kansas. Custer split his troops, leading the lions share himself. There were other contingents under the command of Major Marcus Reno and Captain William Benteen. These companies saw the smoke from the main battle and took cover. Many of them survived. Don’t get me started on this. It is one of my favorite subjects.

@Susan in TN – I’m so, so sorry about the loss of your precious Tiny. I’ve been through that before and it’s the worst feeling in the world. And you are NOT over-reacting. Our animals are family members, they’re like our kids. It sounds like he came along just when you needed him and you gave him an amazing life. My prayers go out to you and your family.

@Susan In Tn have been reading all the posts to you and everyone has said it so well. I’d just like to add the quote,”UNTIL YOU HAVE LOVED AN ANIMAL PART OF YOUR SOUL REMAINS UNAWAKENED.” You have become a member of the “awakened” group which I’m sure most of us on this site are. WELCOME.
@Kari Bussell thank you for the link to that heartwarming video of “Friends Are Angels”. I’m saving that site in my records so I can share it with my friends when they lose a pet…..and myself!
@ALL JUST A REMINDER THAT ANYONE OF YOU CAN JOIN OUR EQUI-ARMY GROUP TO WORK AGAINST HORSE SLAUGHTER, IF NOTHING ELSE JUST CHECK OUT THE SITE,WE CAN ALL CONTRIBUTE IN SMALL WAYS, NO PICKETING REQUIRED!!!

Susan in Tn – Hugs from Fort Erie at such sad news but you knew that everyone here would be supporting you. Tiny was happy in his last moments thinking that his Mommy was taking him for a ride – no pain or suffering.
@ Terry C – Still laughing.

@Terry Crow–the last first time we went to Shiloh, the tree under which A.S. Johnston died was still partly intact. The next time we went, it was pretty much gone. It is such a beautiful place that it’s hard to imagine what occurred there.
@Kari B–thought of you today when I got a bulletin from U of TN. Had a picture of a dog with an orange and white blanket.

A Poem for a September 14th Birthday
Whose birthday has come?
Hint number one:
She’s not on a coast.
Hint number two:
She has a singular boast–
She says when she signs each post
That in her huge state
She loves Z the most!
Have you got her?
Yes, it’s our Kimberly Potter,
Who’s quick to relate
She’s Z’s number one fan
In all of Montan’—
No one’s love for Z could burn hotter!
She’s a mother and wife
Who greets each new day
In her big-hearted way
With verve and lust
And a great trust
In the goodness of life.
She works hard
And plays harder
With all her life’s ardor.
As a legal assistant,
She’s always persistent
In dealing with that legal blotter–
It’s not in her to be a rotter.
While she’s working,
She’s never shirking
Though sometimes she’s wishing
That she could be fishing!
Yes, fishing is her favorite sport
When she leaves behind
Those matters of court.
And though she loves her job,
Her family’s her first heart throb.
Remember when her little grandchild-to-be
Was threatening to come way way too early
Into this world’s hurly-burly?
Kimberly did her very best
To help her daughter-in-law rest
So baby would stay
Within its mom’s girth
Till the right day
Should come for its birth
(Due date in October).
We’re all so happy
Those efforts met with success,
And that crisis is over.
Since that worry has passed,
Kimberly’s ready now for a blast,
And we wish her a day filled with mirth.
Surely she’ll forget household chores
And enjoy instead the great outdoors.
Will she go camping in a canvas tent?
(Hope it’s rain-resistant!)
Will she be fishing with a fly
‘Neath that big sky
And have a fresh-caught fish fry?
Will they round a campfire lie
And maybe sing “O, Susana”
Up there in Montana ?
Now let’s drink a birthday toast
To the Montanan
Who loves Z the most—
By that boast you’ll always spot her—
Our dear Kimberly Potter!

Hi Zenny, I hope you are having a beaufiful day in Ky today. I believe I am going to come up there this time next year as want to go to the sales. I think Sept would be a pretty time to come. Don’t you. Maybe a little cooler. I want to visit the farms too so I am going to have to check with Lane’s End in particular and be sure that they do the Stallion tour during the Sales time. I want to expecially want to get back to visit with my buddy A. P. Indy again. I know he’s getting older and I want to see him as often as I can. And I want to see some others too. @Peggy (N) – My beloved SIS, I will be holding you in my prayers and in my heart. I just know everything is going to be clear and will be keeping those positive thoughts. Love and hugs!!
@Susan in TN – There were tears in my eyes as I read about your wonderful Tiny. Your description came purely from your heart and were very, very touching. I received the picture you sent me and that face and those eyes reflect your words beautifully. I know Tiny will be waiting for the day you are happily reunited again. Much love my friend.
@To Other Z Friends – To all of you that wrote about the loss of a furry family member, my condolences. To those of us who love animals, we know that when they leave us, they take a piece of our heart with them, forever.

@Terry Crow – did you know that Arlington Cemetery, which was established during the Civil War, was formerly the estate of the family of Robert E. Lee’s wife.
