Happy Friday Dear Friends,
It truly has been an eventful week. The 2 primary summer race meets completed their sessions…and now both Belmont Park and Fairplex open their individual meets. Good Luck to All!
Fairplex is a lovely ‘fair’ meet which runs on a ‘bullring’ race course. This means that the oval is a 5/8ths mile track. They do not have a grass course. All races are run on the main track. Belmont Park is beginning their fall meet and they will offer several major stakes and prep races for the Breeders’ Cup. When the Santa Anita Autumn Meet begins on September 30th…they will have the same quality for their stakes program. The fall racing action is really heating up!
Also, on Sunday, the KEENELAND SEPTEMBER YEARLING SALE begins. The sale will open with 2 evening sessions…which begin at 7 p.m. Eastern Time. These 2 sessions are offering some very fashionably bred yearlings. They are listed in BOOK ONE of the sales catalogs.
When a sale is going to take place, the sales company, Keeneland in this case, prepares a ‘SALES CATALOG’. The catalog provides you with all of the pertinent information relating to the sale and the conditions for the sale. It then lists the horses by HIP NUMBER starting with Hip #1. This way when you are reviewing the catalog, you use this number to find all of the information on a particular horse, the date it is being offered during the sale, and all of it’s detailed pedigree information.
HIP # 147 is of special interest to ME! The colt is a very close relative of mine. He is by STREET CRY (IRE)…my sire…and out of BALANCE. She is my 1/2 sister by Thunder Gulch. What makes us 1/2 sisters is that we have the same MOTHER…VERTIGINEUX.
This colt sells on Monday evening. The bidding on him will be very exciting to watch. You may also follow the activities on your computer. Go to KEENELAND.COM, then click on SALE…and select LIVE for the actual viewing of all of the action as it is taking place. This sale lasts for approximately two weeks. All sessions after the first two start in the morning at about 10 Eastern Time.
The catalogs and pedigree pages are on the web-site for you to review as well. It is really quite fascinating to see this side of our industry.
By the way, BLUSH–BLUSH, my photo is on the cover of BOOK ONE. My pal, ZAZU, has her photo on the cover of BOOK TWO. We are both ‘graduates’ of the September Keeneland Yearling Sales.
MY TEAM is coming to Kentucky for the sale…and most importantly they told ME…to SPEND TIME AND VISIT WITH ME! I can’t wait!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

@All–I am so excited. I went to Old Friends FB page, and guess who I found there–Catherine Uher! I am so glad she’s ok! I hope she’ll join us back here!

Love that video; it is so funny how Mike sits up there and looks down like “don’t look at me, look at her it is her day”. I like the one set to Bob Seger ” let me strut” as well.

Dear Signofthetimes:
It always amazes me that Mike sits so relaxed and nonchalant as Z’s bouncing, prancing, strutting and stretching those long front legs out. I like Bob Seger’s “Stut” video too. Love to watch videos of her. She makes me smile. Hugs, J.B.
judy berube
Dear Barbara Wood:
Hope she does too. Hugs, J.B.

@DJ
Thanks for a wonderful prayer.

@Good night, sweet Z. I am thankful you don’t have to experience some of the horrors that go on in the world. I am listening to our local news, hearing one of our state legislators tell of being in the Pentagon on 9/11.
I wish someone had compiled a book about the victims, who they were, where they lived, etc. I would love to know their stories.
Good night, sweet Z. I’m so thankful for you and all the Dumplings in our little band–such close friends, although we’ve never met. Love you always.

For members of our “Z” Family who would like to share an Evening Prayer:
…………………………………
O blest Creator of the light,
Who mak’st the day with radiance bright,
And o’er the forming world didst call
The light from chaos first of all.
Whose wisdom joined in meet array
The morn and eve, and named them day;
Night comes with all its darkling fears;
Regard thy people’s prayers and tears.
Lest, sunk in mire and ‘whelmed with strife
They lose the gift of endless life;
While thinking but the thoughts of time,
They weave new chains of woe and crime.
But grant them grace that they may strain
The heavenly gate and prize to gain;
Each harmful deed aside to cast,
And purge away each error past.
O Father, that we ask be done
Through Your Name Goodness be won,
Who, with your Holy Spirit and thee,
Doth live and reign eternally.
………………………………..
Look upon us, Lord, creator and ruler of
the whole world:
give us grace to serve you with all our heart
that we may come to know the power of your forgiveness and love. 9/11/11

Weekend catchup from #337:
@Terry Crow – I laughed out loud at your accusation to Susan in TN: “…you HAVE worn shorts to a funeral parlor.” In my family, no, but we woulda thought of doing it. At my cousin’s wedding, my brother wore a bobby-pin he found on the ground outside church, cause he didn’t have a tie-clip. And my other brother wore his steel-toed work boots, cause he said they were the only “good shoes” he had. But still, these true stories are not quite meaty enough, as far as hardcore redneck goes.
@Rosemary McCauley – Great redneck jokes! I thought out loud, “You’re definitely in the club!”, even before Terry Crow gave the official word.
@Kari Bussell & @Karen Gogue – Hey, I believe! you’re both funny. Good one!
@judy berube – re: Kincsem, I agree, and you’re welcome. The story of her cat got me, and also her lad Frankie, who had no surname, but was buried as “Frankie Kincsem”.

Dear DJ:
Thank you for the lovely Evening Prayer. Hugs, J.B.

@Barbara Wood—I have the very book you’re looking for sitting on my shelf. It’s called Portraits 9/11/01: The Collected “Portraits of Grief” from The New York Times, published by Times Books, Henry Holt and Company, New York. I’ll send you my copy if you e-mail me your snail mail address (you have my e-mail address).
Trina Nagele
@Lil in KY—Indeed I‘ll be praying for you and for the family of the wonderful doctor who was senselessly killed. Such a tragedy.
@Diana S—I echo my words above also for you and for the family of your wonderful friend killed so senselessly on 9/11. Such a tragedy.
Vicki B.
@Brenda S. – Thanks for the reminder about the people of Gander, Newfoundland after 9/11. We’ve been reminded of a lot of sadness this week, and more currently with all the fires and floods.
Doreen
@signofthetimes – I agree with you, A.P. Indy is royally breed. You can’t get much better than his pedigree. Another grandson of his won today, the strikingly handsome Prayer for Relief in the Super Derby.
@Sue Frederick – you’re welcome. Thank you for letting me know about A.P. Indy’s facebook page. Three of my favorite turf horses are granddaughters of A.P. Indy: Wait A While, Rutherienne (my favorite all-time female turf horse) and her younger full-sister Ruthenia.
@judy berube – you’re welcome.
@Laura J – thank you. I only went up to Hip #400 yesterday, today I went to the very end of the list (I don’t have a life either) and I came across several interesting yearlings: #582 – Tapit and Baroness Thatcher (I saw her races on the west coast and some in person on the east coast), #627 – Curlin and Candytuft – filly is a half-sister to Midnight Lute, #983 – Curlin and Maggie Hawk – filly is a half-sister to Afleet Alex, #1011 – Henrythenavigator and Mien – colt is a half-brother to Big Brown, and #1692 – Elusive Quality and Xtra Heat (champion three-year-old).
Vicki B.
@Lil from KY – Sorry about the loss, but no wonder you’re depressed — always hard to recover from.

Dearest Zenny, Sleep tight till the morning light.
@Terry Crow—So sorry if Don is not doing well.
@Abigail in Montreal—It would be GREAT to have your Vault articles in a magazine format–DEFINITELY! And turning to another subject, let me add condolences with respect to your mother-in-law.
@Denise in Arizona—Good one!
Sharon in Seattle
to Barbara Wood – thank you, thank you.
to Diana and Lil – my sincere condolences for your losses. What terrible tragedies. I pray for you and their families.

Moments of Silence – Reflections
One never imagines….through the emotional turmoil of unfathomable disbelief and horror…. unfolding a tragedy, a disastrous calamity unfolding before our nations eyes….September 11, 2001, day dawning bright, clear and beautiful over the skies of NYC….it was anything but….transfixing itself on our lives forevermore….Our tears saturated the searing, smoldering, burning embers under our gaze….choking dust, ash and soot, scattered with litter of beings remains, horrific carnage and devastation of sacrificed lost souls…senseless loss and tragedy…scathing horrors slow to recede from the depths of ones heart and mind….lost souls in remembrance continues to haunts….takes comfort in moments of silence with hope….unfurle the Red, White and Blue from half-staff and raise it high in honor of those we lost and remember today – the testament to the spirit of America will live on in those lost ….the spirit of America lives and be proud…God Bless The United States of America….We will never forget – in this we will never fail nor falter….in moments of silence…..

Terry Crow—-I am trying to qualify for the Red Neck club, here’s a couple of jokes:You’re a redneck if you think a quarter horse is a ride in front of Walmart—-and if you think a turtleneck is a key ingredient for soup
DJ
Lil: Thank you. I hope you have a blessed day! Morning Prayer early as I will be away today.
………………………………….
TC: Going to miss you today. Thank you so much for your jokes. I have really enjoyed them, they are always funny and never mean-spirited. I especially liked that last one! TOO FUNNY :) Still smiling. Have a Great Day!

For those who would like to share in a Morning Prayer today: Ps 23
……………………………………
The Lord is my shepherd;
there is nothing I shall want.
Fresh and green are the pastures
where he gives me repose.
Near restful waters he leads me,
to revive my dropping spirit.
He guides me along the right path;
he is true to his name.
If I should walk in the valley of darkness
no evil would I fear.
You are there with your crook and your staff;
with these you give me comfort.
You have prepared a banquet for me
in the sight of my foes.
My head you have anointed with oil;
my cup is overflowing.
Surely goodness and kindness shall follow me
all the days of my life.
In the Lord’s own house shall I dwell
for ever and ever.
Diana S
@DJ: Thank you.
