Happy Friday Dear Friends,
It truly has been an eventful week. The 2 primary summer race meets completed their sessions…and now both Belmont Park and Fairplex open their individual meets. Good Luck to All!
Fairplex is a lovely ‘fair’ meet which runs on a ‘bullring’ race course. This means that the oval is a 5/8ths mile track. They do not have a grass course. All races are run on the main track. Belmont Park is beginning their fall meet and they will offer several major stakes and prep races for the Breeders’ Cup. When the Santa Anita Autumn Meet begins on September 30th…they will have the same quality for their stakes program. The fall racing action is really heating up!
Also, on Sunday, the KEENELAND SEPTEMBER YEARLING SALE begins. The sale will open with 2 evening sessions…which begin at 7 p.m. Eastern Time. These 2 sessions are offering some very fashionably bred yearlings. They are listed in BOOK ONE of the sales catalogs.
When a sale is going to take place, the sales company, Keeneland in this case, prepares a ‘SALES CATALOG’. The catalog provides you with all of the pertinent information relating to the sale and the conditions for the sale. It then lists the horses by HIP NUMBER starting with Hip #1. This way when you are reviewing the catalog, you use this number to find all of the information on a particular horse, the date it is being offered during the sale, and all of it’s detailed pedigree information.
HIP # 147 is of special interest to ME! The colt is a very close relative of mine. He is by STREET CRY (IRE)…my sire…and out of BALANCE. She is my 1/2 sister by Thunder Gulch. What makes us 1/2 sisters is that we have the same MOTHER…VERTIGINEUX.
This colt sells on Monday evening. The bidding on him will be very exciting to watch. You may also follow the activities on your computer. Go to KEENELAND.COM, then click on SALE…and select LIVE for the actual viewing of all of the action as it is taking place. This sale lasts for approximately two weeks. All sessions after the first two start in the morning at about 10 Eastern Time.
The catalogs and pedigree pages are on the web-site for you to review as well. It is really quite fascinating to see this side of our industry.
By the way, BLUSH–BLUSH, my photo is on the cover of BOOK ONE. My pal, ZAZU, has her photo on the cover of BOOK TWO. We are both ‘graduates’ of the September Keeneland Yearling Sales.
MY TEAM is coming to Kentucky for the sale…and most importantly they told ME…to SPEND TIME AND VISIT WITH ME! I can’t wait!
With Love,
Hugs to All~
Z

@Andrea – You are correct..Spielberg has made War Horse into a movie and is scheduled to open the end of December this year. I’ll have to read the book beforehand.
Z – Hope you and your team have a wonderful visit and that they take lots of pixs and videos.

@Barbara Wood-You are already a charter member of the club. You no longer are required to qualify. Another redneck joke for today-You might be a redneck if you use the water in your toilet to bob for apples. Here is a joke for today. I won’t be posting a joke tomorrow because I do not think that it would be appropriate. A man goes into a bar once a week and orders 3 shots of whiskey set up. Finally, the bartender asks him “Why do you come in once a week and order 3 shots?” The man replied “My brothers and I used to come in and toast each other and now they are gone and so I do it in their memory.” One day he walked in and ordered only 2 shots. The bartender set them up, watched him drink them, and asked “Why only 2 shots tonight?” The man replied “I have decided to give up drinking.”

Andrea–I have the book from the library now, but I haven’t started it yet. From the previews, it looks like it will be quite a production.
@Terry Crow–oh, Isee.I’m “grandfathered” (or in my case, “grandmothered”) in!

Dear Sue Fredricks:
Thanks for the results on the Super Derby. Unique name that colt has. Hugs, J.B.

@LauraJ. Thank you for responding to my question. I have to say “Driven to Tears” seems like a perfect name. I know Z has driven me to tears many times, mostly happy tears, but sad tears almost a year ago now. No doubt those tears will flow again this November during the Breeder’s Cup broadcast, as I am sure last year’s Classic will be highlighted and replayed.

@ Sue F and Max – How nice to see that those good bloodlines have crossed the line today on both side of the “pond”. We’re going to see their influence for many more years. Way to go Northern Dancer and AP Indy.
@ Terry C – Will miss you tomorrow and I agree with you, but thanks for your jokes today and all the days in the past – they bring chuckles, belly laughs and, in sometimes my case, hiccups so I will look forward to Monday.
Debbie G
@Terry Crow – Thanks for the info. I was curious why they had two Derby winners on one print. I figured one must have been disqualified, but I didn’t know why. I didn’t know they even checked for drugs back then.
@Lil from KY – I’m so sorry about Dr. Post. I’ve seen it all over the news, but I didn’t know her. It sounds like she was a wonderful person. I’m keeping her family in my prayers.
Barbara Wood
@Kari Bussell–echoing your prayer for the troops. You are always close to my heart.
@Sharon in Seattle–ditto for you as well.
Hope all that raced today had safe trips.

@Dear Zenyatta, Dottie, and my Z Dumpling family: 6 hours from now, 10 years ago, it was beginnig – the loss of innocence. Like many of you, I lost someone that day. She wasn’t even supposed to be there. Marie lived in Connecticutt for crying out loud. But she was a broker, and was there for a company meeting – in one of the Towers – way up high. Nothing of her – nothing – was ever found. She left a devastated husband, and two small children – a girl aged 7, and a little boy aged 5. And as I sat stunned watching it all unfold, a horror movie I couldn’t walk out on, I felt a pit in my stomach growing, and a hole in my heart throbbing. I feel it all still. I know many of you do too. In this moment – we are ONE.

@All, I know everyone’s money is tight these days, but if you have a few bucks to spare, this guy needs help with some medical expenses. He colicked badly earlier this week.

Dear Diana:
My nephew lived in Hoboken, N.J. and worked in an office in Penn Station. He often went to meetings in the Trade Center buildings. Thanks to God, that day he did not have a meeting scheduled there. So many innocents were lost that day. I’ll never forget it. So sorry about your dear friend. Hugs, J.B.

Dear Brenda S.:
