Happy Friday Dear Friends,
It truly has been an eventful week. The 2 primary summer race meets completed their sessions…and now both Belmont Park and Fairplex open their individual meets. Good Luck to All!
Fairplex is a lovely ‘fair’ meet which runs on a ‘bullring’ race course. This means that the oval is a 5/8ths mile track. They do not have a grass course. All races are run on the main track. Belmont Park is beginning their fall meet and they will offer several major stakes and prep races for the Breeders’ Cup. When the Santa Anita Autumn Meet begins on September 30th…they will have the same quality for their stakes program. The fall racing action is really heating up!
Also, on Sunday, the KEENELAND SEPTEMBER YEARLING SALE begins. The sale will open with 2 evening sessions…which begin at 7 p.m. Eastern Time. These 2 sessions are offering some very fashionably bred yearlings. They are listed in BOOK ONE of the sales catalogs.
When a sale is going to take place, the sales company, Keeneland in this case, prepares a ‘SALES CATALOG’. The catalog provides you with all of the pertinent information relating to the sale and the conditions for the sale. It then lists the horses by HIP NUMBER starting with Hip #1. This way when you are reviewing the catalog, you use this number to find all of the information on a particular horse, the date it is being offered during the sale, and all of it’s detailed pedigree information.
HIP # 147 is of special interest to ME! The colt is a very close relative of mine. He is by STREET CRY (IRE)…my sire…and out of BALANCE. She is my 1/2 sister by Thunder Gulch. What makes us 1/2 sisters is that we have the same MOTHER…VERTIGINEUX.
This colt sells on Monday evening. The bidding on him will be very exciting to watch. You may also follow the activities on your computer. Go to KEENELAND.COM, then click on SALE…and select LIVE for the actual viewing of all of the action as it is taking place. This sale lasts for approximately two weeks. All sessions after the first two start in the morning at about 10 Eastern Time.
The catalogs and pedigree pages are on the web-site for you to review as well. It is really quite fascinating to see this side of our industry.
By the way, BLUSH–BLUSH, my photo is on the cover of BOOK ONE. My pal, ZAZU, has her photo on the cover of BOOK TWO. We are both ‘graduates’ of the September Keeneland Yearling Sales.
MY TEAM is coming to Kentucky for the sale…and most importantly they told ME…to SPEND TIME AND VISIT WITH ME! I can’t wait!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

So excited for you Zenny, having visitors this weekend. I know they are excited to see you too.
@Abigail from Montreal–Really cool tip, thanks :)
@Barbara Grimaldi(Skipper) and the rest of the “crew”–what a great looking site. I hadn’t thought about it before but I’m going to introduce the owner of the horse rescue where I volunteer to our mission. She is very outspoken against horse slaughter and I’m sure she will love this site.
@DJ–welcome back and thanks for the prayer.
Everyone have a great weekend, I know you will Zenny. Bet you are sure to get some good treats along with your company.
Praying for Texas and all in the flood areas.
Lotas love to all.
Doreen
@LauraJ – to add to your list, other Hip #s to look for: #55 Street Sense and Delta Princess – both grandsires are the same grandsires of Zenny’s foal, #61 Bernardini and Flanders – both are champions, #94 Unbridled’s Song and My White Corvette – half sister to Baby Z (Stardom Bound) as our Mike called her, #101 Street Sense and Pilfer – half sister to To Honor and Serve, #139 A.P Indy and Zaftig (winner of the Acorn Stakes), # 192 Unbridled’s Song and Maryfield (both were Breeder Cup winners) and #207 Indian Charlie and Proud Spell.

From Post #337 and #338
I am honored to be in the red neck club, the “Fish Camps” of North Carolina are a great place to meet these folks. All the fried fish, hush puppies and fries enough to thoroughly coat your coronary arteries 25 to thirty times and of course the red neck music is tops. My joke telling skills will definatley have to improve, you set the bar really high. Love the jokes yesterday and today, I have been laughing all day. Thanks

Thomas Crapper Day of all names, look forward to the celebration.
Really liked your analysis of BL. It is true. The HRTV folks are saying they won’t meet again and that it was one the the greatest rivalries in horse racing. I think it was good, but Easy Goer and Sunday Silence were the best, vying for all the top races. I agree Hollendorfer mentioned that BL she would race next year so maybe she will go off in the Sunset after BC and rise again next year. She is a very talented filly, just a little small to try and beat up on the boys, but one never knows !!!!

Hello Beautiful Girl,
It looks like you are enjoying your bath in the picture above and as always you will be your beautiful self when the ‘family’ visits.
Just for fun and an education, as to what goes on at a sale, a few years ago I visited the Saratoga sales. I was in horse heaven! My God, he made the most beautiful beings on earth when he created the horse! Humans are so ugly compared to you and your relatives. However, the people who cared for and showed them were very friendly. Unfortunately, I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth, so none went home with me. But it was an out standing day and experience to be in their company and touch them, or watch them sleep in their stalls, or strut their stuff for the real buyers. It is a day I will always remember with great happiness.
Did you read, or did Dottie tell you about the Pedigree is Genetics Conference?
You were referred to in the conference and the article that was posted on The Blood-Horse. In the section discussing Taking it in Stride, a few short paragraphs discussing ‘thrust’ [which is how well a horse uses its rear end] this is the exact quote from the conference: “Some people wonder what makes Zenyatta so good; she has a lot of thrust-she’s a machine considering her size, and she’s as good as they get based on what we’ve done here,” “Kilgore said of the mare when she raced.” “She is also a very fluid and efficient mover.” High five hoof! That’s my girl!
I miss you very much.
Eat and stay well.
Love & Kisses Always

@Doreen
Love the article on AP Indy. So interesting he was sidelined in KD,
did not run in the Preakness and won the Belmont; Stay Thirsty began to come into his own in the Belmont as runner up. So he is showing some AP Indy talent as well as his sire. AP Indy stamped both his sons and daughters, how much better could you get than Seattle Slew as sire out of a Secretariat Daughter.

Sweet Zenny: I am so happy to hear that your whole team is coming to visit you. And like other Zen dumplings (above) I hope that Mario is coming too. I will be thinking of you greeting all of your family AND PLEASE, JOHH, TAKE A VIDEO FOR US!!!!
@ Sue Fredericks: GOSH! I never thought about doing a magazine……what do the rest of you think?Would you like a magazine of THE VAULT’s “GREATEST HITS”? I would LOVE your feedback!!!
@ Debbie G. — WOW! I am SO happy for you, sweetie. You are a special lady & deserve such a gift!!!! GREYHOUND: THE most famous trotter in American racing history. Write to me & I’ll give you more details. RIDAN was a WONDERFUL horse who, like Damascus and OUR FRIEND, NOOR, never got the press he so richly deserved. I am a collector of old thoroughbred photos — started doing this before prices went over the top, thankfully.(Teachers are not rich!) But I will do a little research for you on RIDAN. Another Zen Dumpling stressed archival papers for framing. THIS IS VERY VERY IMPORTANT. ALSO: USE LIGHT RESISTANT GLASS over your prints. Any good framer will understand what that means. This kind of glass is opaque — you barely see it — and it will protect your prints from ageing. THIS & THE ARCHIVAL PAPERS (MATTE & ETC.) ARE ESSENTIAL.
Also, any indication of the photographer? This adds to the value. If you can, scan me the photos & I’ll see if I can identify the photographer for you, okay?
ALL DUMPLINGS: PLEASE BE SAFE! We are a family — and I worry if some of my brothers and sisters are AT RISK!
HUGS TO ALL.
SAD DAY FOR ME TOMORROW. CLEARING OUT MY MOTHER-IN-Law’s HOME….A HOME FILLED WITH MEMORIES.
