Happy Friday Dear Friends,
It truly has been an eventful week. The 2 primary summer race meets completed their sessions…and now both Belmont Park and Fairplex open their individual meets. Good Luck to All!
Fairplex is a lovely ‘fair’ meet which runs on a ‘bullring’ race course. This means that the oval is a 5/8ths mile track. They do not have a grass course. All races are run on the main track. Belmont Park is beginning their fall meet and they will offer several major stakes and prep races for the Breeders’ Cup. When the Santa Anita Autumn Meet begins on September 30th…they will have the same quality for their stakes program. The fall racing action is really heating up!
Also, on Sunday, the KEENELAND SEPTEMBER YEARLING SALE begins. The sale will open with 2 evening sessions…which begin at 7 p.m. Eastern Time. These 2 sessions are offering some very fashionably bred yearlings. They are listed in BOOK ONE of the sales catalogs.
When a sale is going to take place, the sales company, Keeneland in this case, prepares a ‘SALES CATALOG’. The catalog provides you with all of the pertinent information relating to the sale and the conditions for the sale. It then lists the horses by HIP NUMBER starting with Hip #1. This way when you are reviewing the catalog, you use this number to find all of the information on a particular horse, the date it is being offered during the sale, and all of it’s detailed pedigree information.
HIP # 147 is of special interest to ME! The colt is a very close relative of mine. He is by STREET CRY (IRE)…my sire…and out of BALANCE. She is my 1/2 sister by Thunder Gulch. What makes us 1/2 sisters is that we have the same MOTHER…VERTIGINEUX.
This colt sells on Monday evening. The bidding on him will be very exciting to watch. You may also follow the activities on your computer. Go to KEENELAND.COM, then click on SALE…and select LIVE for the actual viewing of all of the action as it is taking place. This sale lasts for approximately two weeks. All sessions after the first two start in the morning at about 10 Eastern Time.
The catalogs and pedigree pages are on the web-site for you to review as well. It is really quite fascinating to see this side of our industry.
By the way, BLUSH–BLUSH, my photo is on the cover of BOOK ONE. My pal, ZAZU, has her photo on the cover of BOOK TWO. We are both ‘graduates’ of the September Keeneland Yearling Sales.
MY TEAM is coming to Kentucky for the sale…and most importantly they told ME…to SPEND TIME AND VISIT WITH ME! I can’t wait!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

@Kari Bussell, Cynthia H and Laura J: I intend to tune in every night. Your running commentary on the Keeneland sale is absolutely fascinating – from floor wrestling to fascinators to mistaken incest and skin rash conjecture. I can just picture a Kari Bussell video entitled “Flying Fascinators at the Keeneland Sale!” Ya’ll are a hoot.
LauraJ
#68 is one nice looking boy!
LauraJ
@Kate Wheeler, how’d you like to referee the wrestling matches?
Cynthia H.
#72 colt Street Cry/Hollywood WIldcat by Kris S. Has breeding like Z! Street Cry, with dam by Kris S.
Linda in NJ
Appreciate you kind thoughts.
What are you folks referring to with the #64, #63, etc? Are you watching something live?
Brenda S..
Good thing I’m not at Keeneland – would have been tempted to bid on Hip #70 – was foaled on my birthday.
Kari Bussell
#72-$925,000

@Linda in NJ, we’re watching the first session of the Keeneland yearling sale. It’s the first session, featuring some of the most promising yearlings by the hottest sires and best dams. It’s being streamed live on the Keeneland web site. The numbers are the “hip” aka catalog numbers. It’s ridiculously addictive.
Linda in NJ
Curlin’s colt is beautiful.
Cynthia H.
How many are in the first book? My fascinator is beginnnig to wilt.
LauraJ
$200K for a Cape Cross (#80). Those Euro stallions can’t get any respect.
LauraJ
What, you only have one fascinator?!! You need a whole wardrobe.
Cynthia H.
Agree, Laura J. Distance and turf don’t merit enough respect.

Good Sunday Queen Z and little Z. Thanks for the reminder how access the Keeneland Sales.
Susan in Tn. will be contacting your daughter soon. Thank you for the help.
Cynthia H.
I only have one fascinator. Kari B. has cornered the market. She loaned Princess Beatrice her favorite for Kate and WIll’s wedding.
Brenda S..
@ Linda in NJ – How brave of you to share with us. I can’t imagine the terrible things you experienced that day so join in and watch the sales from Keeneland. So enjoyable and tempting – good thing I have severe limits on my credit card!!!
LauraJ
#86 has pretty socks. #85 for $45K, and a half to a graded stakes winner. Ridiculous. Probably an RNA.
LauraJ
Well, we now know why Kari B. is not buying yearlings. She spent all her money on fascinators.
Linda in NJ
#87 went for 1.4M. Are they planning to race him?
Cynthia H.
#87 has dance potential! Did you catch that movement with his left leg?
LauraJ
#87 new leader at $1.4M. An AP Indy.
Brenda S..
Wow!! Hip 87 did well and he has some Vice Regent blood. Will have to watch him.
Cynthia H.
@:Linda: You can bet on it, Linda! That is the sales topper thus far.
Kari B. very quiet. Must have something up her sleeve!
LauraJ
@Linda in NJ, they not only plan to race him, they hope he will win the Kentucky Derby.
Barbara Wood
@Cynthia H.–too funny!
@Linda in NJ– can’t imagine what else you must have seen. I’m so sorry you have to re-live those terrible memories. Thank you for sharing with us.
