Happy Friday Dear Friends,
It truly has been an eventful week. The 2 primary summer race meets completed their sessions…and now both Belmont Park and Fairplex open their individual meets. Good Luck to All!
Fairplex is a lovely ‘fair’ meet which runs on a ‘bullring’ race course. This means that the oval is a 5/8ths mile track. They do not have a grass course. All races are run on the main track. Belmont Park is beginning their fall meet and they will offer several major stakes and prep races for the Breeders’ Cup. When the Santa Anita Autumn Meet begins on September 30th…they will have the same quality for their stakes program. The fall racing action is really heating up!
Also, on Sunday, the KEENELAND SEPTEMBER YEARLING SALE begins. The sale will open with 2 evening sessions…which begin at 7 p.m. Eastern Time. These 2 sessions are offering some very fashionably bred yearlings. They are listed in BOOK ONE of the sales catalogs.
When a sale is going to take place, the sales company, Keeneland in this case, prepares a ‘SALES CATALOG’. The catalog provides you with all of the pertinent information relating to the sale and the conditions for the sale. It then lists the horses by HIP NUMBER starting with Hip #1. This way when you are reviewing the catalog, you use this number to find all of the information on a particular horse, the date it is being offered during the sale, and all of it’s detailed pedigree information.
HIP # 147 is of special interest to ME! The colt is a very close relative of mine. He is by STREET CRY (IRE)…my sire…and out of BALANCE. She is my 1/2 sister by Thunder Gulch. What makes us 1/2 sisters is that we have the same MOTHER…VERTIGINEUX.
This colt sells on Monday evening. The bidding on him will be very exciting to watch. You may also follow the activities on your computer. Go to KEENELAND.COM, then click on SALE…and select LIVE for the actual viewing of all of the action as it is taking place. This sale lasts for approximately two weeks. All sessions after the first two start in the morning at about 10 Eastern Time.
The catalogs and pedigree pages are on the web-site for you to review as well. It is really quite fascinating to see this side of our industry.
By the way, BLUSH–BLUSH, my photo is on the cover of BOOK ONE. My pal, ZAZU, has her photo on the cover of BOOK TWO. We are both ‘graduates’ of the September Keeneland Yearling Sales.
MY TEAM is coming to Kentucky for the sale…and most importantly they told ME…to SPEND TIME AND VISIT WITH ME! I can’t wait!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

@Kari Bussell—May I interrupt the sales excitement to say thanks for the great Budweiser Clydesdale 9/11 tribute and the Celine Dion video of God Bless America with the wonderful quotes on the screen. I remember watching in tears the original Tribute to Heroes broadcast on TV, and to me Celine’s performance was the best of all. I bought the DVD too.

#43 $875K. Woot!
Cynthia H.
@Laura J; That’s right! I stand corrected. Life is Sweet is by Storm Cat out of Sweet Life. I didn’t mean to involve her in an incestous relationship!

#49 is pretty. Very feminine.

Dear Zenny: This is a very sad day for me. I was working in the World Financial Center, South Tower on September 11, 2001, which was directly located across the street from the World Trade Center. My department was situated on the 5th floor. When the first plane hit the World Trade Center, North Tower, my building shook. We walked to the window and looked up to see a fire on the 100th plus floor. When I looked down to the ground level I saw someone on fire just as the 1st fire engine truck arrived on the scene. When I looked out again, I saw a jumper fall to their death. I remember being told to stay in the building that we were not in harm’s way. I went to another part of my building to talk with other colleagues to see if they knew what had happened. That is when I saw the shadow of the second plane right before it hit the second tower, the South Tower. We were told at that time to leave the building. We only had to walk down 5 flights to the street level. As we approached the plaza, I saw such a horrific scene. As I walked up the Westside Highway, I saw the collapse of both towers. No words could possibly begin to describe the emotions I felt that day knowing that some of my colleagues working on the upper floors of the Towers would not make it out. Days after the tragedy, we were relocated to Jersey City. As I looked across the Hudson at lower Manhattan for the next several months, I saw the smoldering site with plumes of smoke every day. At some point over the months that followed we were allowed to go back to the South Tower of the World Financial Center to collect our belongings. There was nothing left, really. As many of us looked out onto Ground Zero from an opened window we could see the fire fighters and the police as they worked through the rubble to try to find the remains of loved ones. On my way out of the building I saw my plant. It survived that day and the many months that followed. It was life! I carried it out of that building and took it with me back across the Hudson. Zenny today we remember that day with such sadness.

Ok, this is bugging me…why aren’t they “picking up” quickly? The floor looks awful. At the FT sales it was almost picked up before it hit the ground.

@Linda in NJ, touching remembrance. I can see how this would be an extremely tough day for yu. (((Hugs)))

#52–Purrrty.

@Linda in NJ: You were witness to one of the most horrible living nightmares that any of us could ever imagine. I cannot begin to think what it must have been like to have seen the things which you saw on that most tragic of all days. God bless you.
LauraJ
@Cynthia H., good call on #55.$650K!
Kari Bussell
@Linda in NJ- I am so sorry. God bless you.

#61 Oh, gosh. BERNARDINI/FLANDERS by Seeking the Gold. Dibs on ths one!
Kate Wheeler
Zenny, you and the special joy you bring to us all each day represent a diametric contrast to the national sadness this day brings to our memories. We thank you and your human family for that.
@Linda in NJ: We admire the courage of your memory and your eloquence in sharing it with us.
LauraJ
#61. That was a steal! A Bernie, and the dam cranks out winners. Skin rash maybe?
Cynthia H.
@Laura J: Thanks! #61 looks exactly like Flanders, not at all like Bernardini. A shy little guy.
