Happy Thursday to all!
I’d have to say, I’d be able to recognize this guy anywhere no matter what he is doing. It is MY JOHN and look what he is wearing….my Z HAT! On the back, it says… ZENYATTA…2010 HORSE OF THE YEAR! I don’t feel I’m being biased….but I really do believe it looks terrific on him.
One of our dear fans, Daniel Sigal, sent this photo to Dottie. It was taken at Del Mar last week and he thought she’d enjoy seeing it! As you may know, MY JOHN is a hat person. He wears a baseball type cap ALL OF THE TIME! As I’ve written earlier, we even played our own version of the HAT GAME when I was at Barn 55. TOO CUTE!
Thank you, Daniel, for sharing this photo!
Yesterday’s Del Mar Futurity sure had some anxious moments. Creative Cause is a wonderful 2 year old colt. He truly ended up getting the worst of it all when being crowded and bounced around from both sides during the final part of the stretch run.
As a result of all of this ‘bumping’, the inquiry sign was posted on the tote board as soon as the horses crossed the finish line. The Stewards, who are the ‘chief guardians’ to monitor our sport closely, immediately evaluated the different views of the video tapes involving this race. In slow motion, they are also able to review every angle of the action in great detail to aid them in making the proper decision.
Every race track around the country has its own set of 3 Stewards on duty each race day.
After much evaluation, they disqualified Majestic City and placed him behind Creative Cause. They felt MC was the horse who initiated the chain of events for the infractions which took place in the stretch. Drill remained the winner as they felt he just reacted to what was started by MC.
It is the official policy of racing that the horse who causes the interference MUST be placed behind the horse he or she bothered in the race. Thus, Majestic City originally went under the finish line 2nd…and Creative Cause 3rd. However, after the Stewards’ review and ruling, Creative Cause was moved up to 2nd…and MC was placed behind him in 3rd. This policy is true in every racing jurisdiction around the country. The Stewards work very hard to keep everything fair and carefully monitored for our sport!
RACING LUCK is also a very big consideration. You do need to have it. As you saw yesterday in the Futurity, a horse can inadvertently end up in a position where the opportunity to run his/her best race is definitely compromised!
With the Del Mar Meet concluding Wednesday, the balance of the horses will be leaving that track and returning to either Santa Anita or Hollywood Park to continue their training. The Santa Anita Fall Meet begins September 30th.
Starting tomorrow, on the Southern California circuit, The Los Angeles County Fair Meet at Pomona will run for the next few weeks. On the East Coast, Belmont Park opens tomorrow for their fall meet of racing!
That’s another great thing I love about our sport…it is always filled with action!
Have a wonderful day!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

@Jan– are you in Bastrop? I’m in Waco, and new fires broke out around Lake Whitney north of us. Praying for you and for us all.

@Abigail in Montreal: Thanks for update on Mine That Bird! He looked like he coul go right into a hunter hak class! Also, I just started your piece on Secretariat and Eddy- I had to force myself to stop and do “my chores”! Thank you!
@JAG: Thanks for hat link- I really need a Z hat!

I have missed some of the postings here over the last few days. I have been trying to get more information about the 22 thoroughbreds lost by the man in Fultonham NY in the floods from Hurricane Irene. It’s a heartbreaking story–some were mares and foals, most were Grand Prix jumpers. He has been walking and driving around frantically looking for them. I first heard about it on CNN and have been trying to learn more on Google. Has anyone heard any late news about this?? It’s SO awful!!
@Susan in TN–Glad the “boys” are doing better! I do so love hearing about the horses there! Wish I had a scanner and was smarter about computers-I’d put photos of my cats on here. Star is SO cute–she has “lynx ears”–they have little tufts on the ends and she has such an expressive face! Katie’s eyes are so blue you justcan’t believe it! When I was in school in Monrovia,I only got to go to the track once, but,as I mentioned once before here,I used to listen every night to the radio recap of the day’s races–I loved it!!
@ Terry Crow–I LOVED the joke about the devil’s sister!! I have been chuckling about it for days and telling it too–giving you credit,of course!! It really is priceless!!I loved that movie too–in fact,I own it on VHS. My Thomasina had white feet just like the one in the movie I got her for my birthday as a kitten when I was about 35.She lived to be about 15. Star has a couple of orange patches on her back in the middle of all of her “gray tabbiness”–I always touch it and tell her “that’s Thomasina, right there!”
@ Trina Nagele and Judy Berube–Thanks for your comments!! I look forward to your posts all the time!! This is such a great extended family!!Wish we could ALL meet at the BC next year!! Maybe I’ll win the lottery by then and it will be plane tickets all around!!!
Zenny girl–dream of pears and peppermints and all good things. May tomorrow bring you the sun on your back and a soft breeze to ruffle your mane–LOVE YOU!!!
Susan in TN
@Denise in Arizona: Glad to see you post! How are all your Sweeties? Bet those goats are growing!
@Judy B: DVD came today!! Going to watch it later. Thank you!!
@Jan: I cannot imagine having to turn my horses loose and hope for the best- I’m sure that was the best thing to do. From what I’ve seen on websites, horse people are really trying to watch out for horses and take them in and try to find owners. As I said above, I am praying and crying for all of you. <3
Susan in TN
@Sue Noel: Glad you are enjoying “the boys”! I would love to see pictures of your cats- they sound beautiful! It’s interesting, but in vet school, my daughter was taught that if you had to draw parallels between horses and any small animal, as far as treatment methods, reactions to drugs, and some other things I can’t remember, it would be cats! There have been so many cute stories in the last few days about horses and their cats!
Susan in TN
@Barbara Wood: Glad that link was helpful. I sent some, too. Every little bit helps. Texas is such a great horse state and needs help.
Susan in TN
@Terry Crow: Great joke!
@Eveline: Thanks for link on Julie Krone!
Susan in TN
@Terry Crow: No, I somehow never heard of Slim Whitman- just Slim Pickins! Thanks for the consolation prize- was that wearing shorts in ALL seasons?!?
Susan in TN
@DJ: Hope all is well with you <3
@Lisa G: You okay there in Texas??
Barbara Wood
@Susan in TN–thanks more than I can say, dear friend.

Yes Zenny, YOUR John is TOO CUTE!! And so are you pretty girl.
@Susan in TN–You absolutely do not come across like that. Good for Chester rolling in the dirt. Going to take look at those pictures.
@Judy Berube–Aw, thanks and so are you. High Hoof to the research on The Factors’ ancestors.
@Trina Nagele– :)
@DJ–yoo hoo, where are you hiding? missing you.
Have a great Friday Zenny.
Lotsa love and prayers to Texas and all.
Especially Horses
@MLV: Interesting pedigree information on Rum Car. As good as “Ancestry.com” or “I’m related to who?” I have seen that photo of the 1933 Derby, but I didn’t know it was the only win for Brokers Tip.

Dear Zenyatta. So fun to see your John in his Z hat. You are right, we would recognize that man anywhere. I know he has to miss those hat games he had with his best girl. It is always frightening to see some of the close calls that can occur in a race. Racing luck is definitely a part of the game. It seems Lookin at Lucky had periodic times of bad luck during his career. It is so good that there are stewards to uphold fairness and that rules for excessive use of the whip are in place. So fun that we have many more weeks of great racing before the Breeder’s Cup. It will be exciting to see who makes the trip to Churchill Downs. All my love to you and the little dream growing safe inside you. The lullaby of your heartbeat must be sweet music to your foals ears. Sweet dreams to you both. Hugs and kisses. XXXOOO
@To all in Texas and the East Coast – Prayers and positive thoughts coming your way. May the trials and tribulations you are experiencing end soon. Stay safe!
@Shari – Loved, loved, loved the video and post for you and Homeroom 215. Way TOO CUTE!! Thinking about you, all the best.
@Abigail in Montreal – I have to say Abigail that there are tears falling as I am writing this. The story about Red, Riva and Eddie is so beautiful. A true love story to touch the heart. You are the best!!!
@Susan in TN – As always Chester and Friends are sweet as ever.
@Love to all my wonderful Z friends! Life is amazing and so are all of you!!!!!

Hi Zenny, you wonderful girl. I wear my Zenyatta ball cap when I play golf. The guys look at me funny, but then read the back. No explanation needed.
Dawn Conrad
@Shari – Sorry, I did not say the post I was referring to was from your new pen pal Mistletoe. She and her friends are all just so special! What fun!!! Thank you for letting us be part of the experience!

Good Evening. As usual, wonderful posts today. I’m so glad the horses involved in the bumping incident were able to finish the race uninjured. At the speed they travel, getting hit like that had to have hurt, but they raced on.
I apologize, I’m going to get off topic here. Could someone who can see Eblouissant’s profile picture on her FB page please explain what is on her head. It looks to me like a halter but with a bit in her mouth. That doesn’t make sense to me. It looks like a lead with a chain is attached to it. Other pictures of her with a lead don’t show that, not even the chain in her mouth which was explained in a very early diary entry. I would really appreciate if someone can explain what this is. Thanks so much.

@Maureen B, Thank you so much for telling me about Get There Being on UTube by Oleta Adams. It was so funny I was telling them about it at work today actually tried to sing it to them (oh my) I can’t sing. Anyway they found it and they just loved it too. I am going to UTube right now to listen to it. Thank you so much. That whole show last night on TVG was just great. It was so nice that Mr. Moss called in to wish Ken Good luck. I was so upset as I missed it. I had run out for just a few minutes to get me some supper and missed that call. But Ken looked like he was in tears one time. We will miss him.
@ Zenny love you very much.
Love to everyone Peggy

***PLEASE REPOST***This might help someone in Texas.
Matt Daniel has enough pasture for about sixty horses. So if anyone knows someone with horses displaced by the fires give him a call 832-769-1879. He can move the horses, ten at a time. Also another man Ron Derrick from Lampassas has 2500 acres, 20 stall barn and several pastures. He said that if anyone needs a place to put animals, call him at 512-734-6080.

Zen you are right about the Del Mar Futurity, the finish was a mess. Feel so bad for MC, he was so upset about what happened on his FB page. His fans stating about use of the whip on the left caused him to drift?
Barbara Wood
@Michelle–God bless these men and you for posting. I took down ithe info. Hope it isn’t needed, though.

Zenyatta my Queen thank you for the lesson. I always learn something here. I love this classroom. I wanted to tell you Zenyatta I miss my class following you but Madame Mistletoe is helping me out. I know your focus is on the baby and as it should be. Today Mistletoe sent the class a care package. She sent each child a card with a personal message and a picture for each child to keep. She also sent some larger pictures for me to hang and candy. Boy did I have some very happy children. We are going to start our Mistletoe project to send back questions and a large drawing. I think Mistletoe will enjoy that just like you did. I know how much you love children and just wanted you to know. Please tell Tasty T Hi and I hope you both have sweet peppermint dreams. I love you Zenny forever. Hugs and Kisses, Shari XXXOOO
@ Susan in Tn thank you for my Rootbeer pictures. That made my night. Please keep giving him kisses from me. Kiss Kiss to my Rootbeer :)

Dear Zenny,
Really love that HOY Zenyatta hat. YOUR JOHN needs to wear it forever. He is a very special man to have trained you so successfully and so soundly, mentally and physically. Maybe being a man of the 60’s and 70’s makes one very intuitive, it was a very intuitive time. Can’t wait to see your sis “E” break her maiden. It sounds like she is becoming her own individual and I am sure will ask big sis for advice. She is such a beautiful filly. Hope you had a great day and a peaceful restful night.
