Happy Thursday to all!
I’d have to say, I’d be able to recognize this guy anywhere no matter what he is doing. It is MY JOHN and look what he is wearing….my Z HAT! On the back, it says… ZENYATTA…2010 HORSE OF THE YEAR! I don’t feel I’m being biased….but I really do believe it looks terrific on him.
One of our dear fans, Daniel Sigal, sent this photo to Dottie. It was taken at Del Mar last week and he thought she’d enjoy seeing it! As you may know, MY JOHN is a hat person. He wears a baseball type cap ALL OF THE TIME! As I’ve written earlier, we even played our own version of the HAT GAME when I was at Barn 55. TOO CUTE!
Thank you, Daniel, for sharing this photo!
Yesterday’s Del Mar Futurity sure had some anxious moments. Creative Cause is a wonderful 2 year old colt. He truly ended up getting the worst of it all when being crowded and bounced around from both sides during the final part of the stretch run.
As a result of all of this ‘bumping’, the inquiry sign was posted on the tote board as soon as the horses crossed the finish line. The Stewards, who are the ‘chief guardians’ to monitor our sport closely, immediately evaluated the different views of the video tapes involving this race. In slow motion, they are also able to review every angle of the action in great detail to aid them in making the proper decision.
Every race track around the country has its own set of 3 Stewards on duty each race day.
After much evaluation, they disqualified Majestic City and placed him behind Creative Cause. They felt MC was the horse who initiated the chain of events for the infractions which took place in the stretch. Drill remained the winner as they felt he just reacted to what was started by MC.
It is the official policy of racing that the horse who causes the interference MUST be placed behind the horse he or she bothered in the race. Thus, Majestic City originally went under the finish line 2nd…and Creative Cause 3rd. However, after the Stewards’ review and ruling, Creative Cause was moved up to 2nd…and MC was placed behind him in 3rd. This policy is true in every racing jurisdiction around the country. The Stewards work very hard to keep everything fair and carefully monitored for our sport!
RACING LUCK is also a very big consideration. You do need to have it. As you saw yesterday in the Futurity, a horse can inadvertently end up in a position where the opportunity to run his/her best race is definitely compromised!
With the Del Mar Meet concluding Wednesday, the balance of the horses will be leaving that track and returning to either Santa Anita or Hollywood Park to continue their training. The Santa Anita Fall Meet begins September 30th.
Starting tomorrow, on the Southern California circuit, The Los Angeles County Fair Meet at Pomona will run for the next few weeks. On the East Coast, Belmont Park opens tomorrow for their fall meet of racing!
That’s another great thing I love about our sport…it is always filled with action!
Have a wonderful day!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Just spent a few hours watching again clips of you racing ,dancing and just being Zen. I always walk away with a lump in my throat and joy to see such a gifted horse. You are a gift from above for sure. Soon you will again give us a gift Zen. Thanks team Z and you Zen.
Mary
Yes ..Z…he is your John…you two made quite the team…quite the pair. The respect you two had for each other I took you both a long ways on the track and off. That is great how the stewards keep an eye on things. We have to have rules in any sport….we do at times have to remind people about sportsmanship. Hugs to you Z….

your right the stewards have a big job to keep everything above board in the sport of kings.

My adorable Zenyatta, John your trainer he is a great person, all of them are great persons, I think this is the reason that all his horses are so nice, love you Ingrid.

My Queen, thank you for explaining what happened in the Del Mar Futurity yesterday. It is wonderful to learn from a true expert. It was a thrilling race. I hope you are having a wonderful day. You are too precious and amazing for words. I love you.

@Susan in TN–I made an online donation to Bluebonnet this afternoon. Thanks for letting us know they are link to the Elgin group.
@Terry Crow–another winner!
@Abigail from Montreal–thank you so much for the MTB link. I do hope he ends up one day at KY Horse Park. I just adore him. Last time we were at KY Derby Museum, his trainer Chip was there, and my husband got to talk to him. I was on the phone, and as Chip was leaving, I was trying to catch up, but he was faster on his crutches than I was walking as fast as I could! I always felt sorry for Chip. I hope better things come his way than the treatment he was accorded.

Zenny, I don’t think you have any idea how many Zenyatta hats are worn on a daily basis but I’m sure that YOUR JOHN, like my Victoria, who received a hat for Christmas, wears it every day. As I have mentioned in the past, getting it off her head to launder it is a major effort. JOHN probably has more than one Zenny hat and so Dottie, thankfully, has time to keep us up to date on YOU instead of washing hats.
@ Terry C – another good one today. Wherever do you get them all?
@ Abigail – Loved the Vault article on the big boy and Mr. Sweat.
@ Kari B – I hadn’t seen the O’Jays and Zenny before so thank you for posting it today. Always liked the O’Jays, and Zenny’s moves are “too baad”
@ Judy B – Thank you for asking about the face, it’s feeling less fragile but still looks scarey.
@ Texas Dumplings – You are in our thoughts, please stay safe.

I got to see BIRDIE at the 09 Goodwood Stakes and the 09 BC. Yes, he’s a tiny little guy ~ reminds a lot of JOHN HENRY! I have a MTB friend who lives in New Mexico. She’s visited MTB several times. She has great pics of him playing with a ball in his paddock :-). I will ask her to post an update for you!
———-
I still have my MTB poster (with bird feathers) to show my support for the Goodwood Stakes(I’ve never seen a Kentucky Derby winner before – honest!) I also met Chip Woolley, Charlie (groom), and the agent, Ralph Kinder, who purchased MTB. They all signed my poster, except for Calvin, he was too busy, or too shy, to acknowledge me ;-(

Forgot to say that even for those of us who love a tall, stately lady, some good things do come in small packages so we shouldn’t forget Mine that Bird, Northern Dancer, John Henry, et al. They were small but mighty.

Judy/JAG LOL I did mess up your initials! Sorry my friend! Still love my Zenny hat. I would not have it if not for you.

Zenyatta, thanks for the picture of your John with his Zenyatta hat. I like that picture of him and it made me think of when you were out there racing, John was always so proud of you. Have a great day and I’m sending you lots of love.
Jan
Zenyatta,
I am continually learning about horse racing on your site, and I must say it is interesting. John looks good in all of his caps. That cool guy look. :) The wild fires are really bad here in Texas. One woman in the town next to us lost every thing. To save her two horses, she attached her phone number to them, hoping someone would find them safe and call her. It is so sad. The air quality is very bad, and when the sun sets, its a blood red from the fires. Pray for us here. Keep safe and healthy Big Mama.
Jan
She let her horses go free, in hopes someone would find them and bring them to safety..

Hi Zenyatta. The Futurity was awesome. I love Drill as he is by one of my favorites, Lawyer Ron who died way too young. Love the pic of John in his Z hat. I have my various Zenyatta hats hanging on my door. I had one made up of you to wear to one of your races. I just love it. Love you big girl. Thank you so much for the wonderful informative diary. Please thank Dottie for her input. Stay comfy, eat well for two and have loads of fun with your BBFs. Love you, Angel in Disguise.

@Abigail in Montreal – I loved The Vault story about Eddie Sweat and Secretariat. The ending was so sad, though. It’s too bad he couldn’t remain at Claiborne. (I sent you an email today about Mr. Goins. Bad news, I’m afraid.)
@Susan in TN – I visited Chester and Friend’s FB page. I love the picture of him rolling in the dirt. Too cute! :-)
@Kari Bussell – Thanks for sharing the Love Train video. It did my heart good to see her prancing and dancing again.
Debbie G
@Jan – What a sad story. I hope her horses are OK. I’ll pray for them and everyone else in Texas.

@Abigail in Montreal, thank you again for your Vault article it’s just wonderful. I read the book “Secretariat the Horse That God Built” and felt so bad for this wonderful man who was so unappreciated during his life (a true Horsewhisper). If I remember right he died penniless. I so adore your pieces I wish they could be put in a book, I sure would love to have one.

@JAG and Abigail – thanks so much for the update news on Mine That Bird. So happy for him! And thanks JAG also for making the cinnection with your friend who has pictures. I’d love to visit MTB in New Mexico!
