Good Morning,
I was out walking and enjoying myself the other morning…just taking life nice and easy…when here comes KITTY. She is one of my new Lane’s End Farm friends.
I absolutely love other animals…and on this morning…I was able to spend time with KITTY. I hope she was not concerned that our sizes are so different. I really am very gentle!
I must say, I am quite used to being around cats. At BARN 55, we had 3 of them who were all really a part of our daily lives. They constantly relaxed around the barn and ‘hung out with us on the grass by the trees’ while we were grazing.
This particular cat reminds me so much of home. KITTY is the exact same color as one of MY BARN 55 cats. For 5 years, she was very much a part of my life. Each morning, when they’d wash the saddle pads and set them out in the sun to dry…she would go out to the grass and nap on them. No matter what happened, she’d just relax there, in the sun, and enjoy watching us graze each day! Often, we’d have to graze right around her. She wouldn’t even move…she was so used to us! I think deep down inside, our Barn 55 Kitty always knew we would watch out for her!
Such FUN!
Enjoy your day!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Too cute! Your barn kitty looks just like my barn kitty, Paulie. He like to get nuzzled up by my horse, The Easter Bunny. Although last night E got a little too carried away with his nuzzling and bit Paulie in the ear. E got a poke in the nose from Paulie for that one!

Love the picture Zenyatta! Reminds me of the time we were at Barn 55 and you met Mrs. Moss’s poodles! I got a great shot of you and one of them “nosing” each other! You can see the picture by clicking on this link to Flickr!

Zenny- how adorable are you?!? You have the sweetest, kindest expression! I’m so glad you have a kitty friend at Lane’s End, even if she does look a LITTLE overwhelmed! You are an example for us all, Z- curious, gentle, kind, friendly, open-minded. As Yvonne and Maurice say, you really ARE an angel in disguise! How fun that you had cat friends at Barn 55-sounds like a great place to live, if you ask me! You are a really good girl and you’re going to be such a loving mother! Love you so <3

Good Morning – Love the kitty and Zenyatta picture. So very sweet. Kittens and horses such charming friends. When I visited Three Chimney’s farm they had a beautiful cat in the barn area – He was huge, possibly a Maine Coon. So friendly. Had a little bowl of food & water right by the barn. I have 4 cats and a German Shepherd and they get along (finally) You look beautiful today and every day!
Thank you Lanes End and Dotti for this wonderful website and the pictures.

My daughter has a cat, Pearl, who will be 18 years old next month. She’s a little tortoiseshell and just keeps on going. Can’t jump as high as she used to, but still spry. Wonder what she’d make of Zenyatta’s sniffing at her?? Amazing that Zenny is so powerful, yet so gentle.

Hi Zenny: Good morning to you. I remember you telling us about your little friend, Kitty, when you first arrived at Lanes End. I am sure you are very good friends by now. This is such an adorable picture of the 2 of you.
I can’t believe the rain held off (at least here in NJ) for the Labor Day weekend. It is raining here today, but it was a great weekend. I took today off from work and I am enjoying the morning with catching up on all my Blood-Horse magazine articles. This was such a fun summer filled with so many very exciting races. I can’t believe the summer is over. The time went way too fast. Zenny, I would appreciate it if you and Dottie would keep us informed of the races for the “3-year old hopefuls” leading up to the Kentucky Derby. I would like to follow them this year and I never know when the “Derby’s begin to take place.
I hope you are feeling well. As always you look terrific. Take care, Zenny. Love you. – Linda

@Jane Wade: Really cute photo!
@Andrea in Germany: Good to see you post!
@Barbara Wood: Still praying for you and Texas <3
@Ingrid in MA: So sorry you are having a hard time after your hip replacement- you'll get there! Frustrating, though, I'm sure.
@Kari B, Sharon in Seattle, LouAnn Cingel: Hope you have a JOYOUS day! <3
@ALL: No matter what name the Moss's choose for Z's baby, it will HAVE to be better than "Tastes Like Chicken"! Saw him race the other day (or her). Couldn't help but laugh, but what were they thinking?!?

I’m sure you’ll be best of friends. Remember that size doesn’t matter. I’m looking at you now with my rescue cat, Wellington, sitting with me on my desk. His original name from the rescue was Finigan, but as I’m a retired history teacher, I remaned him after the Duke by that name. Wellington however is a big baby & still hides under the bed when friends come to visit. I’m sure the Duke of Wellington who defeated none other than Napoleon, is turning over in his grave when he considers such a sissy namesake. But then, what’s in a name?

Oh, Zenny: How is your Z-Team CA family doing? I hope they enjoyed their summer. It seems like your John and Barn 55 had a lot of successful races this summer.

@JoAnna Thanks for the great UK mare list. I’ll surely research them.
@DebbieG Thanks for the account of Paul Mallory & his love of Slew
@TinaNagele Thanks for posting the Slew tribute. I would have, but am technologically challenged & didn’t know how.
@Patricia Thanks for the lovely comments about the land whre Noor was interred & how both he & it are at peace.
@Signonthetimes Thanks for posting part of Steve Haskin’s article about Seattle Slew & his greatness in “losing”. I too agree that Zenyatta won more admiration from her last race than from earler wins. I’ve read that after the Jockey Cup Gold race Karen Taylor, with her husband the owner of Slew, said that she cried not because he lost, but because he tried so hard. That may explain some of the tears shed after Zenyatta’s last race.
@SusaninTN Thanks for remembering Slew.

Zenyatta you are such a special girl. I love the picture. Cats are wonderful creatures. I have an inside cat and three I feed that are outside cats. We all need to feel loved and protected. I am so glad you have a kitty friend. I love you sweet gentle girl. Hugs and Kisses from Shari and Homeroom 215 XXXOOO

That is just so sweet, Z!! I will never forget visiting you at Barn 55 last November and getting a hug and kiss from you. Thanks to YOUR JOHN AND DOTTIE for sharing you with your fans. I have a photo of that very same kitty at Barn 55, just relaxing on the saddle pads on the grass! I’d love to send it to you!

IT IS AMAZING THE COMPANIONS HORSES HAVE, SOME HORSES HAD THEIR OWN SPECIAL ONES. CHICKENS, DOGS AND CATS. THE SAYING TO GET YOUR GOAT, IS FROM HORSES AND THEIR GOAT. IF THAT GOAT, WHO HELPS THEIR HORSE STAY CALM WAS MISSING, IT WOULD CAUSE GREAT STRESS ON THE HORSE. THIS COULD EVEN MAKE THE HORSE NOT RUN WELL OR TRAIN AS IT SHOULD. I BET THERE WERE AN A.P.B. OUT FOR THAT GOAT..LOVE TO ALL, SHERRY D. WV.
