Good Morning, Everyone!
Recently, I was relaxing in the paddock thinking about all of the activities planned for the future. My Team and I have been really working on some exciting plans. They are constantly monitoring my well-being…which is always their #1 goal. Additionally, my pals at Lane’s End always make sure I am in fabulous shape and taking great care of myself. Just think….I am going to be a MOM! All of this is really very exciting!
It is also that time of the year when so many people in our industry focus on the YEARLING SALES! The September Keeneland Yearling Sale is one of the largest sales in the entire industry. People from all over the world travel to Lexington for this sale with the hope of purchasing young horses who will ultimately enrich their racing programs. As you may know, this is the sale I was purchased from when I was a yearling in 2005!
David, who is a part of MY TEAM, was recently asked by THE BLOODHORSE to do some video presentations discussing criteria on how to select a yearling at a sale, the physical qualities to look for in a young horse, and then a discussion about ME! In my opinion, this is the TOO CUTE part of these presentations….the part about ME! Blush, Blush!
On their web-site, THE BLOODHORSE presented a short segment from each of these videos. I thought it would be fun to share them with you. You’ll see ME as a yearling in the sales ring, HIP #703, and many clips of ME during my racing career. The one segment at Churchill Downs was taken a few moments after I arrived at the track from the airport for the 2010 Breeders’ Cup.

Hi Zenny, you are the most lovely precious horse. Hugs.
Wow everyone, so many great downloads to view on this site. Totally wonderful. Thanks for all the effort you bring.
JAG ~ California :-)
ALL: I told my mother that I shared her “close encounter” with a horse on the Internet and she got such a laugh!! She couldn’t believe it would entertain so many people (it did us both good to have a laugh!)
——–
I had forgotten that she wasn’t actually in a pasture with the horse, he/she was in a pasture and my mother was walking by. She couldn’t resist talking “baby talk” to him/her. That’s what ticked the horse off; ears pinned back and jumped the fence after her. When she got home her mother told her, “That’s what you get for talking to a horse like you do your pets!” Lesson learned: Mothers always know best! :-D
——–
Good night all. Sleep tight Mamma Z… and baby Z….
JAG ~ California :-)
p.s. Thank you all for the birthday wishes – my mother totally loved to hear about this, too!

Dear Kim S.:
Thanks for sharing the story of William and your daughter. It’ll take a little while, but they’ll soon be a Team. William’s one of the lucky ones to be adopted by people who are patient and loving. Hugs, J.B.

A beautiful portrait of you Ms. Zenyatta. Always so wise and beautiful in repose. Thank you for the link to Steve Haskins. I have been enjoying his articles for years and did not know of his illness. I wish him the very best and for his family. His legions of fans have missed him so much.
Sleep well and enjoy your Thursday everyone.

So cute with your nose relaxed against the boards. All the best Sweetheart!

Sleep tight, sweet Z, till the morning light.
@All who commented on the poems— Thank you! I appreciate it very much.
@Sunny Boyd—Great Rodney Dangerfield zinger.
@Gary Moulton— I don’t know if I told you or not, but that old-man-who-can-still-think-pretty-quick joke made me smile, and I bet it made others smile too.
@Kim S—Bless you and your daughter who with the one other volunteer put in that extra time at the Equestrian Inc rescue to take up the slack. Cute story about your daughter and the willing but confused William.
@Linda in NJ—I’m glad to hear about your good time at Saratoga and your safe albeit delayed arrival back home.
@Anne from Paramount—Too cute! Your larger frog wearing a Z cap or the Gold Cup Day hat! Love it! I don’t have any quite that large (yet). Thanks for your kind comment about the poems.
@Susan in TN—Thank you! Too cute! Made me laugh out loud.
@Arlene in hard-hit Vermont—You and your fellow Vermonters remain in our thoughts and prayers.
@Kari Bussell—Humble thanks from your admirer. You are inspiring. Praying for a miracle for you.
@Sharon in Seattle and LouAnn Cingel (again)—So glad to see you posting. Praying all goes well.
@Steve Haskin—-Also praying that all goes well for you. Loved the Stay Thirsty article, and hope you’ll be penning many more.
@JAG—Wow, that horsed jumped over the fence to chase your mom down?! No wonder she’s scared of them! Glad she had a happy 90th with you celebrating with her.

That was “that horse…”

@Zenyatta and all my Z friends: I am here. I stand no chance of catching up with all the comments – it has been an emotional week.
My sister got some good news yesterday. At this moment, her tests show no remaining cancer. She is bubbly over the news. If she remains in the clear for a year, then another, then I will be bubbly too, but not just yet. The secret pow-wow with my two neices and one nephew have created the start of a game plan for them to take care of her future needs, even if she remains oblivious.
Thank all of you for the good wishes you sent her – a complete stranger. You are all so incredible.
@Noor: Those of you who know me well know how choked up I’ve been reading Karen’s wonderful updates from afar, and seeing the videos and pictures and comments. My heart aches. It’s silly, but when I returned the video camera equipment last week, it really hit me that I wasn’t going on Noor’s epic journey. But he is “home” and the gallant champion could have wished for no better champion than Charlotte.
@Terry Crow and DJ: The wind beneath my wings.
@”Skipper” and my colleagues at the ANNEX: I’m glad you have given me something to keep my mind busy.

My darling Zenyatta, I just have to tell you that I think about you every day. Each morning before work, I watch Liza sing “Zenyatta”, then I watch TVG’s montage of all of your 19 wins and I finish with watching the 2009 BC Classic. This puts me in a great frame of mind for my work day. You are still inspiring me and I’m sure many, many others. Here’s to hoping you have a healthy baby. Lots of hugs & kisses my Queen.

Good morning Zetty,
well, it’s the day before TGIF :)
That pic above shows your whiskers, oh, how they give the biggest chuckle of them all. The pic with your snow kissed whiskers … simply UNFORGETABLE… They should be on Vogue/Harpers. :)

Have a great day.

continue:
the music man,Mr. Paul Schaefer was talking about it at great length, and I’ve been reading about it also, Jerry Lewis raised about $1 billion during the entire timespan of the charity’s existance. Mr. Lewis hasn’t been of good health, but he has always MCed the show. His movies with Dean Martin, priceless, he was my fav comedian during junior/senior high school. Thanks :) :) :)

@Signofthetimes, you are welcome for the info on Take Control. It was not I who went to Saratoga :-( , but maybe someday. About the commitment necessary to keep a horse: well said. And it applies not just to horses, but to any animal one keeps. People also underestimate the attention and training required. I can’t tell you how many dogs come through our rescue because no one bothered to train them. We often get them when they are 7-8 months old, no longer cute puppies, untrained, mouthy, and bouncing off the walls because they are intact and therefore hormonal.

@Judy Berube, LOL a winning Powerball ticket would open up all kinds of possibilities, wouldn’t it?

@Diana S: How wonderful! What great news about your sister! I can understand you being cautious in your optimism. I can’t imagine how emotional a time this has been for you and her children. What a gift of love you all are giving her by preparing for the future without your sister facing it at this time- you are unselfishly giving her this time to BE bubbly. I am so sorry that you did not get to accompany Noor on his journey. <3
Barbara Wood
@Diana S–great news about your sister. Thanks!

@Abigail in Montreal: A big thank you for the link to Zenyatta ariving in Kentucky! For some reason, it made me cry. I didn’t realize whose voice I was hearing at first- seemed like one of the Dumplingz, it was so loving and full of awe and admiration. Then I realized that it was Ann Moss! And I thought, well, she IS a Dumpling! That was adorable and Zenny was breathtaking, as always.

Love the videos!!!

Just catching up on the posts. @JAG-I thin k I bet on that horse that your mother outran. Actually, I think the expanded version of her story outshines the original. Mothers are special. @Gary Moulton-Don’t sell yourself short. After all, Ed McMahon was a war hero. Maybe you can sell Granny’s picks on a card at the track. Works for Baedaker, Bob and Duke. I have learned that you have to pick the subjects of your jokes carefully. You always do. @Linda in NJ-Sounds like you had a great time at Saratoga. Glad you made it home safely. @Judy Berube-Good points on the costs of having race horses. It is the after that causes most of the problems. Potential owners should be aware. @Shari Voltz-A teacher that makes it fun to come to the class room? What a concept. You are special. @Marty R-Don’t be a stranger. @Kari Bussell, Doreen, Kimberly Potter, Marshall, Deborah Richman,Kim S and Trina Nagele-Thank you for your kind comments. @Diana S-You have it wrong. Did I ever tell you that you’re my hero? And everything I’d like to be? @Kari Bussell and Susan in TN-guess I have to be more careful in my selection of redneck topics. Here are a few for today–You might be a redneck if you and your dog use the same tree; and you might be a redneck if you use the term “over yonder” more than once per month. The emphasis is on MIGHT. I will post a joke later.
