Good Morning, Everyone!
Recently, I was relaxing in the paddock thinking about all of the activities planned for the future. My Team and I have been really working on some exciting plans. They are constantly monitoring my well-being…which is always their #1 goal. Additionally, my pals at Lane’s End always make sure I am in fabulous shape and taking great care of myself. Just think….I am going to be a MOM! All of this is really very exciting!
It is also that time of the year when so many people in our industry focus on the YEARLING SALES! The September Keeneland Yearling Sale is one of the largest sales in the entire industry. People from all over the world travel to Lexington for this sale with the hope of purchasing young horses who will ultimately enrich their racing programs. As you may know, this is the sale I was purchased from when I was a yearling in 2005!
David, who is a part of MY TEAM, was recently asked by THE BLOODHORSE to do some video presentations discussing criteria on how to select a yearling at a sale, the physical qualities to look for in a young horse, and then a discussion about ME! In my opinion, this is the TOO CUTE part of these presentations….the part about ME! Blush, Blush!
On their web-site, THE BLOODHORSE presented a short segment from each of these videos. I thought it would be fun to share them with you. You’ll see ME as a yearling in the sales ring, HIP #703, and many clips of ME during my racing career. The one segment at Churchill Downs was taken a few moments after I arrived at the track from the airport for the 2010 Breeders’ Cup.

Hugs to All~

Zenyatta, there is no doubt about it, you are the perfect filly. But I think it took a very special touch to help you find your greatness. Thank you John Shirreffs and Barn 55. Zenny, you embody goodness.

Everybody wants to know how to pick another Zenyatta…..sorry folks, there is only ONE Zenyatta. :)

Good evening Zenyatta,
yep, you’re going to be a beautiful Mom, and your foal will be just like you. :) It’s getting hot again, but hopefully just for a few days. Well, dear girl, get a restful night

You are always so alert Zenny. I bet you know when you are going to have visitors even before they do :)
Trying to catch up, my daughter and I were the only other volunteers besides another at the horse rescue today.
@Susan in TN–Hi and thanks. Also William is great. Still with Lacey and trying to keep her from flirting with the other boys. :) My daughter rode him in her riding lesson last Saturday. Unfortunately I had to work so my Mom told me about it. He got a little confused as to whom he heard clucking, thought it was for him and sped up to a canter for a little bit. My daughter got him slowed up but had to dismount to take a breather. Hope your crew is well.
@DJ–sorry forgot to mention you on the last post but I look for your prayers along with Terry’s jokes, every day. Thank you always for them.
@Trina–:) can’t wait to see Zenny with the little one, frolicking in the paddock.
@Abigail from Montreal–Thank you for the links about Charlotte and Noor. The headstone is absolutely wonderful and what a message.
@Terry Crow–LOL another great one.
@JAG in Cali–adored the moose video, was wishing I could put a sprinkler out and have them come to my place. :) I think you did the Fawn Rescue too (???) if not then whoever did, it was very heartwarming. And a big Happy 90th Birthday to your mom, Ramona. High Hoofs!
@Gary Moulton–Double LOL
@Marilu V–sorry you had sad news. Warm thoughts and prayers your way.
@Marty R–Happy Birthday to you
@Karen Gouge and Dawn Conrad–your posts about Noor brought goose bumps and a lump to my throat.
@Kimberly Potter–What great baby bump news and I agree, definitely NOT to the river floating.
@Margie–I 2nd that!
@Margaret–appears to be some good news, hope there is more to come. Sent a letter to the BLM in Billings about some going ons out there. Info at The Cloud Foundation.
@Kari Bussell–more great links from you, thank you. Positive thoughts and prayers to you.
Prayers for anyone that I have missed.
Well Zenny, I hugged quite a few horses at the rescue today, wish I could give you a hug but an air-hug will have to do while I think of you waiting for your company.
Everyone have great end of the week. Lotsa love to all.

For “Z” Friends who would like to share an Evening Psalm:
……………………………….
The law of the Lord is Perfect,
it gives life to the soul.
The word of the Lord is to be trusted,
it gives wisdom to the simple.
The command of the Lord is clear,
it gives light to the eye.
The man who loves his neighbor fulfills the law;
the whole law is summed up in love,
for love is the fulfillment of the law.
The command of the Lord is clear,
it gives light to the eye.

LouAnn…Sending you lots of healing thoughts and prayers!

Hi Zenny: Well it’s been a couple of days since my last note to you. I finally made it home from Saratoga. I was delayed in leaving due to the hurricane. It’s nice to be back home. As always you look gorgeous. I have to tell you Zenny, while I was in Saratoga I visited the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame. They had videos of your Breeder’s Cup races. You were so exciting to watch. I also saw your name in lights as the 2010 Horse of the Year. And I saw your Mike’s plaque in The Hall of Fame Gallery. I had a wonderful time over the Travers weekend. Take care Zenny. Love you.

SARATOGA –
Race 2 – “Physical Gold” was never in it. He ran 6th all the way. Time was fair. I should have listened to my own advice about locals having more success this week. A NY Bred and a NY trainer won this race and the first race and they were both open races. Neither horse showed anything on paper. -$10.00
.
Race 7 – Our key horse “Mr. Style” ran 2nd. I can’t beat Pletcher when I bet against him and can’t win when I bet on him. The time was OK. The under numbers ran 4th, 5th, & 6th. -$6.00
.
Race 8 – “Putthebabiesdown” ran 4th pretty much all the way. The time was slow. -$10.00
.
Race 11 – The key horse “U Ought to Know” ran 5th all the way around. Looks like 3 out of 4 that I picked at the Spa today were a bunch of followers. The time was extra slow in this one. The under numbers came 2nd, 6th, & 9th. -$6.00
.
DEL MAR –
.
Race 1 – “Fly Solo” ran 2nd. Time was average. -$10.00
.
Race 3 – Our key horse “Ansede” came in 2nd. The time was a little below average. The under numbers ran 3rd, 5th, & 11th. -$6.00
.
Race 7 – “Backwoods Belle” was scratched. “Lookin for Jonesy” came in 3rd. The time was good in this race. VOID BET
.
Race 8 – The key horse “American Warrior” came out fast, battled on the front end till the top of the stretch and faded to last so we were out of it no matter what happens with the other horses. The time was a little below average. The other numbers came in 1st, 2nd, & 3rd. -$6.00
.
-$54.00 Today +$150.20 Starting out Tomorrow
.
.
@Granny only hit three races and lost $9.70 for the day.
.
@ JAG from California – Joker got 2nd in the 2nd and my horse “Fly Solo” got 2nd in the first, we had the 2nd place daily double between us, LOL
.
@All – Thanks for all the laughs and luck. I can only be Terry’s “Ed McMahon” except I don’t drink as much as Ed. I am only good for a couple of jokes a month and my “Old Man” joke bombed last month.
.
And HERE’SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS TERRY, LOL
Gary Moulton
@Granny- I made a mistake and Granny caught it. Her correct tally is she hit 4 races and lost $6.90.

@Paul
The sales provide those with the $$$$ the opportunity
To purchase their hopes and dreams. Buying a horse
For $100 to Millions is a gamble. What does the horse
Want to do, what does the horse like to do, what is it’s
Temperament, how much talent does it have, how good
Is it’s conformation so that it stays sound rideable or able
To work, do you have a good trainer/horse match?
When all of these questions are answered their
May be a match for the human

@Paul
Horses are a life time commitment no matter what
The issues are and it is the obligation of the owner
To find a suitable home should their be a change in plans
Keeping one horse at a barn can cost $1200 to $1500
a month stall and board, cost Lessons $400 to
$500 a month and training $600 to $800 pet month
So one is talking $3500 to $4000 pet month. This is
not the cost of a race horse. Just to train a Yearling
For one year is $20,000. So many people buy horses
And don’t realize the cost and commitment.

Dear Signofthetimes:
Thank you for sharing the most important facts of horse ownership. People really need to be aware of what is involved so that they can make a total commitment to the horse during and after his/her racing career. Hugs, J.B.

Hi Queen Z…you appear quite alert,as always. You inspire creativity AND serenity. (I hope I can recall this when needed, such as tomorrow at work!) :) @Abigal, thanks for the CD video–enjoyed seeing OUR GIRL settling in –and next to Harmonious too! And thanks for sharing your videos, Z.
@all involved with Noor, in person and with photos, thanks again! What a story! I am so grateful to be on the “sidelines” observing it all.
@Marty R, Hi and hope you had a very high hooves birthday. @Arlene, thinking of you, your family AND your beautiful state. @Lou Ann Cingel, hope you are feeling well!
@Trina, enjoying the poetry. You are so prolific I just can’t keep up to comment on each one! How are your frogs? One of my larger ones occasionally dons Zenyatta’s cap. (Or the giveaway we got on Gold Cup Day–that white hat.)
@ALL, a good night…before I get more goofy. Need some ZZZZZ’zzzzzzz, right Ms. Queen Z? So happy you are enjoying the better weather there now and your fun life. WELL DESERVED!!!!!
