Happy Friday!
As you can see, I’m getting my BEAUTY REST and making sure that I am taking great care of myself these days!
Additionally, I want to get plenty of rest so I can be energized and watch all of the terrific weekend of racing on both coasts. I’m going to be spending tons of time with my guys here at LANE’S END handicapping and watching the races. The conversation around the barn is already heating up now on who likes who in which race…and why! It is great FUN!
From Saratoga, running the Travers and the King’s Bishop… to Del Mar carding the Pat O’Brien and the Pacific Classic to name a few of the quality stakes running the next few days, it will be one very sporting weekend.
Uncle Mo…is making his first start back in the King’s Bishop since ‘feeling under the weather’ around Kentucky Derby time. There are so many contentious 3 year old colts running in the Travers….that I will really have to study the FORM here.
Then in Del Mar, they are running The Pacific Classic which is their premiere race of the entire meet. My farm, Lane’s End, has a horse competing in the field…TWIRLING CANDY. So this is very, very exciting!
My friend, BLIND LUCK, and her connections decided to ‘skip’ the Pacific Classic for this year and have her compete on another path: The Lady’s Secret and if all goes well The Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic. These are both very distinguished and prestigious races….I know them quite well. All the best to her and her future plans.
Enjoy your weekend! Have a terrific time watching all of these high quality races! It is SO MUCH FUN! I can’t wait!
Hey, Matt, Charles, Mike, David and Sarah…who do you like???
With Love,
Hugs to All~
Z

Hi Zen, I have missed you so much since you quit racing. I don’t write to much I’ve had alot going on to. I wish I could see you. I’m coming to the Derby next year and then I’m going to make plans to go back to Kentucky probably to Lexington and from there make plans to visit some of the farms. I hope I can see you in this time because I may not be able to come back again. We will see but I will always love you,if you only knew all the teas I cried while you were racng. Until next time take care of yourself and that beautiful baby.

What a sweet picture of our girl!!! She looks content and happy. As for the races I am rooting for Uncle Mo and Stay Thirsty. Uncle Mo has been training as well as when he was a 2yr old and has put on at least 100 pounds. He is doing great. Hopefully, he will be back to form. I have a soft spot for the little guy. Just my gut feeling, but I think Blind Luck is in need of a little rest. Glad she is gettting it. Good luck to Twirling Candy too!

@Brenda S-Glad you enjoyed the joke. @Katie Clawson, future jockey-If caring persons such as you end up being jockeys, and I hope you do, the future of horse racing is in good hands.@Kari Bussell-I’ve had enough of this cramped up city life living like a duck in a pen. All I know is that its a pity life. @Lisa g-I was looking in you tube the other day and found another Waylon Jennings gem. Waltz me to Heaven Tonight. Check it out.

Now THAT is a darling picture of Herself, is it not??? I just love seeing horses lying down. They look like big dogs instead of awesome huge beasties. :-)
I will be rooting for a recovered Uncle Mo this weekend!

Love this picture – you look so relaxed and content! Lots of great racing this weekend, hopefully “Irene” won’t be interfering!! We’re suppose to be getting hit pretty hard here on the east coast!!

PRECIOUS ZENYATTA (AND DOTTIE): I will probably never have the pleasure of seeing you in person, but it’s like I know you through all the stories told about you by the Kennedys and others. You are irresistible. Since I’ll never see you, I’d like to ask for a favor, please. Today’s photo absolutely charmed me, but I would like to see a photo of you fast asleep in your stall…dreaming sweet dreams. That’s a photo I’d enlarge and put on my bedroom wall. Just received your Beyer statue today–wish i could afford the really expensive one, but I can’t, but I am in love with this little one!
THE KENNEDYS–don’t know how you have all these wonderful little stories about Zenny, but I love them!
SHARON CALL: Bravo on your response to a person who deserved it.
TERRY: never saw that punchline coming–loved it loved it. Thank you, too, for the further information on the track surface. The synthetics just seem odd to me–what’s wrong with good old natural dirt? Of course we all know by now that I know nothing about the fine points of racing, but this sweet home of ours gives me lessons every day.
KARI’S VIDEOS: Oscar-worthy. Kari, how do you get all the stills, the videos, how do you splice (that word dates me) them all together and then add sound! Sounds magical to me!!! Sending you smiles and hugs today!
EVERYONE: as you know, Irene is bearing down on the East Coast, where 750,000 horses reside (got that from a weather report on FB). I would really be super grateful if any and all of you could recommend a REPUTABLE and safe and trustworthy rescue group in your area, your state. I’m trying to build a registry of the best possible alternatives when we hear about emergency rescues. Would really appreciate this help. All the work we do in the Annex is inspired and in honor of Zenny, but we never ever use her name. We don’t have to. She is in our hearts. Thank you.

Hi Queen Z, you look so lovely in the picture. Definitely, you need lots of rest. I will be glued to my television this weekend watching horse racing. I wish Uncle Mo wins the King’s Bishop. It’s been five months since he raced. I think it might be a bit tough for him to win tomorrow. Anyway, I am still rooting for him. For the Travers, I want Stay Thirsty, Bernie’s boy to win. His daddy won the same race on 2006. This race will be a real challenge for Thirsty. Well, since Blind Luck skipped the Pacific Classic this year, I am not sure who to pick now. Have fun watching the races this weekend. I love you!!!
Beth Alexander
You are a beauty no matter what you are doing!!! Great racing this weekend for sure – can’t wait to watch! Love you always.

@Barbarab Grimaldi- Horse Haven- Knoxville Tennessee…they are right down the street from me. They work miracles..You can find them on FB…and thank you for all your kinds of encouragement , support & love. Also your WAY too generous praise of the videos. I use windows movie maker…it really is not that hard once you figure it out.I did a new one to keep my promise to Ruffian. I only mention it because I remember your love for her. Her ending is so tragic I did not feel it right to post it here. It is very hard to do a good one for her with so few pictures and I couldn’t get any video, but I tried to honor her.It was something I felt I had to do.

what a beautiful mom-to-be!!!

@Barbara Grimaldi-Synthetics are odd. You are right. There is nothing wrong with good old dirt. Here’s one for the folks in your community–Aged husband and wife sitting on the front porch. The wife said “I certainly would appreciate a vanilla ice cream cone.” The husband said “I’ll hobble right down to the drugstore and get you one.” Wife: “Now, remember, I want vanilla. You always get chocolate. Write it down. Vanilla.” Husband replied “I can certainly remember vanilla. The store is only two blocks away.” Husband comes back with a hamburger and hands it to his wife. She looks at it disgustedly. “I knew you would forget the mustard,” she said.

To all Z fans on the East Coast:
Batten down the hatches and curl up with
A warm drink, hard line telephone and your
Weather radio. Hopefully Irene will pass quickly
With little impact. These storms are definately
No fun. Stay safe!!!
