Happy Friday!
As you can see, I’m getting my BEAUTY REST and making sure that I am taking great care of myself these days!
Additionally, I want to get plenty of rest so I can be energized and watch all of the terrific weekend of racing on both coasts. I’m going to be spending tons of time with my guys here at LANE’S END handicapping and watching the races. The conversation around the barn is already heating up now on who likes who in which race…and why! It is great FUN!
From Saratoga, running the Travers and the King’s Bishop… to Del Mar carding the Pat O’Brien and the Pacific Classic to name a few of the quality stakes running the next few days, it will be one very sporting weekend.
Uncle Mo…is making his first start back in the King’s Bishop since ‘feeling under the weather’ around Kentucky Derby time. There are so many contentious 3 year old colts running in the Travers….that I will really have to study the FORM here.
Then in Del Mar, they are running The Pacific Classic which is their premiere race of the entire meet. My farm, Lane’s End, has a horse competing in the field…TWIRLING CANDY. So this is very, very exciting!
My friend, BLIND LUCK, and her connections decided to ‘skip’ the Pacific Classic for this year and have her compete on another path: The Lady’s Secret and if all goes well The Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic. These are both very distinguished and prestigious races….I know them quite well. All the best to her and her future plans.
Enjoy your weekend! Have a terrific time watching all of these high quality races! It is SO MUCH FUN! I can’t wait!
Hey, Matt, Charles, Mike, David and Sarah…who do you like???

Z! You are looking good these days! I am so anxious for you to become a mother. Do they test you like people to see whether you are going to have a male or female foal? I remember when I was young I pretended my horse was a thoroughbred and pretended to run on a race track. You take care, ok?

Glad to see you are resting Momma Z! You look so cute! I too, am excited for the races this weekend. I won’t be betting since I am in “that” state that doesn’t allow betting online, but oh how I love to watch the races on tv while cleaning and laundry on a Saturday! I am really rooting for Uncle Mo! He was my pick for the Triple Crown until that fateful illness. I love that his connections felt they had to go the distance in getting him well. Love You Z! xoxo

Zenyatta: You look marvelous. These updates are great for so many reasons. The care you receive is wonderful and it shines a very bright light on how all of God’s creatures should be treated.
Your “Family-Team Z” measure up and can withstand this type of
visibility. They and you deserve every award received now and in the future! Hooray and High Hooves! Hugs and Carrots!!!!

Since we will be in Europe for the next three weeks, I thought I would leave you with a Zenyatta/ Mario/Bob gem.
In the Shirreffs’ Barn at feeding time, grain is scooped into shallow pans which are placed on the ground inside the stalls so that the horses can feed more naturally. Zenyatta always grabbed two bites of grain and then a gulp of water from an adjacent pan, alternating between the two and eating with noisy gusto. We observed this many times.
When the Mario and the other grooms leave at the end of the workday, the night watchman, Bob, took over scooping the grain for the night feeding — around 2:30 AM. Bob and Zenyatta had a ritual. When Bob approached with the grain-filled pan, Zenyatta would step forward and push out on the stall webbing and rubber covered chain at the entrance to her stall as far as possible preventing him from placing the pan inside her stall. She would continue blocking his way until he satisfied The Queen’s command — KISSING HER ON THE MUZZLE. Only when he satisfied that requirement would she step back allowing the pan to be placed inside.

Best of luck to all the horses running this weekend, and hope everyone stays safe from the hurricane. Love ya, Zenny!

Thank you all for the prayers and well wishes.. the council meeting was a complete circus.. unbelievable.. they upheld his termination~ but set themselves up for a law suit, so that may be the silver lining. We got a call early this morning informing us that our atty was retained on our behalf (by virtual strangers) because they believe Brian was/is being treated unfairly and wrongfully terminated… so now we just need to find him a job.
I believe there is a reason this is happening to us, and am keeping the faith and understand that I dont see ‘the plan’ God has for us yet.
@Kimberly Potter- where are you in MT? I grew up in Hardin.. thanks for all the support~one Montanan to another! :)
Thanks again to all of you!
