Good Morning, dear friends!
It is such a glorious day outside. As a result, I am able to just stand under the trees and graze for a bit. This is just like I would do at Barn 55! It reminds me so much of those moments in my California Home!
The weather has been rather lovely…and I am enjoying every single moment of my time outdoors. I must say, I have adjusted beautifully to my new life and my ‘new career’ as a MOM-TO-BE!
I am wearing my ‘sunglasses’ often these days…not just for the sun but to keep those ‘adorable…yet pesty flies’ off my face. These masks really work.
As you can see, I am ‘growing’ a bit…but in all of the right ways. While relaxing and grazing, I do use the time to think about so many things!
It is always interesting to reflect upon what one has achieved and the different paths one may experience in life. Last year at this time, I had just won #18 in a row and my 3rd Clement Hirsch-G1 stakes. I was enjoying a few weeks of RNR after the race with MY JOHN, Mario, and Steve at Del Mar. The cool ocean breezes were making it such a comfortable environment. I was also grazing on the grass and standing by trees…just like I am now.
Some things in life change and one’s life goes through various stages. Other things remain very much the same…and constant! I am such a BLESSED HORSE. I have been so fortunate to experience all of the different stages of being a very successful and world-class athlete in my sport…and yet have so many special and sweet things in my life stay happily the same.
Lucky ME!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Good evening Zenyatta, hope you are haveing a wonderful evening. Such a prettey picture of you above.
@Everyone I got back from the sale and had a wonderful time, just wonderful didn’t get to stay as long as I would have liked but my mom has not been doing well lately so had to get back she’s alomost 79. She’s ok her health is just failing a little.
Absolutely some of the prettiest babies, someone said the yearling sale was a beauty pagent and they are right
we did have a little excitement, we had a bad storm above and the sales was halted for a while. They lost computers and the tote board went out. Such lightning and thunder. They told us, though we were going to get a treat as the horse that was in the ring at the time they lost power was going to have to stay there for a while, everyone he stayed there for about 30 to 40 minutes. He was hip # 109 he was a beautiful Chestnut Colt by Exchange Rate. The thing was he was so well behaved he stood there all that time right by the guy that was holding on to hime. Was just so docile, just great. Everybody laughted and said he was probably glad to be in rather than outside as the lightning was crackling. He sold for 40,000.00.
There was a filly that was just beautiful she was chestnut to but she had a long thin face with a blaze so young looking and delicate with those big eyes. Just gifts from God
Midnite Lute had some very impressive youngsters there too, just beaufiful. I know I am going on a little long, but had just a great time. The people in Ocala seem to really love there horses such a gret place.
One more thing i wanted to tell you guys, I was so thrilled i met Barbaro’s Trainer from florida (Before he went to Michael Matz)step mother, from Stephens Thoroughbreds. She was so nice and kind, she asked me if I remembered Barbaro and then she told me her step son trained him. I thought OMG, I was just blind struck. You know the Good Lord is so wonderul, I was just devastated when he passed like so many others. I just felt such a closeness back to him with this meeting, I think sometimes in life God brings some thing back in some ways that makes us feel close again to things we’ve lost. Just hard to explain but its there.

JUDY BERUBE- Can’t thank you enough for posting the link to “The Green Saddle Cloths”. It was right-on in its content and incredibly moving. I read the article through tears.
Thanks again for all you share with us on site.

Dear Brenda S.:
So glad you enjoyed the article. Made me cry too. As far as Seth Hancock, sometimes I think a person knows his horse was not the best horse in the race, but they win anyway. Would have been better for him to have been gracious in winning. Hugs, J.B.

Dear Deborah Richman:

@ anyone that knows. I had a question to ask meant to ask it at the sale but guess t got distaracted.
Don’t know if I am spelling this right, but I am typing it as how it sounded by the Auctioneer. what is a Ridgeling, again don’t know if the spelling is right. I know what a Cribber is but didn’t know what this meant. The horse that was in the ring so long was one.
@ Dawn C, so glad your back.

This is an interesting story on one of the contenders in the Travers, Raison d’Etat, who has a connection to the late Bobby Frankel through his mother Sightseek. Good luck and a safe trip to him, but I will be cheering for Stay Thirsty to win like his talented sire, Bernardini.

Good evening Zenyatta,
and another great picture by Sarah. You’re looking goood, Missy.
I could actually mow in the early evening today, without feeling as if I’ve already gone to hell. Much cooler. But ocean breezes would be so lovely. Yes, you were a lucky horse. And still are.
I leave you with this lofty pondering & wish you a good night:

Queen Z…you look so happy and relaxed, motherhood agrees with you.
Doreen…your poem is one that I have used when I have had to say good-by to one of my special horses.(all my horses have been special) They leave their hoofprints on my heart.

What a touching article!
Looking forward to a full weekend of racing. I know everyone on your site will be upset that I am not rooting for Stay Thirsty, obviously I wish him great success, but you gotta love the heart of Shakleford. He is such a warrior on the track and so much fun to watch. Good luck to all in the Traver’s.
On to Uncle Mo, I hope he performs well. Was magnificient at 2 and who knows had he not become ill perhaps he could have been our Triple Crown Winner.
Again, good luck to all those and a safe trip.
With the pending hurricane, I hope all the necessary steps will be taken to protect the horses up and down the east coast.
Have a wonderful evening Z Fans.
Hugs & Kisses

@ Abigail from Montreal
remember the Rat Pack, Old Blue Eyes, himself, Dean Martin, Joey Bishop, Peter Lawford, Sammy Davis. And Angie Dickenson. When I heard of them it was the late 60’s. They were Las Vegas glamor. I think she might be the last one of them.
Jackie
I apoloogize. To all those in the east, no disrepect, I certainly intended to share my concern for you as well as the horses. Please take care and hunker down for Irene. God bless you all and protect.

@Jackie — Thank you so much for the link to Noor and Awad — Such beautiful comments about Awad — You have to love the personality of this horse.
LauraJ
@Peggy (N), a ridgeling is a male horse in which one or both testicles are undescended. The undescended testicle(s) may be left alone or removed, depending on where they are–if located in the goin, for instance, they may inhibit movement. If both testicles are removed, the horse will of course be known as a gelding. A male with both testicles retained will be sterile, but a horse with one normal testicle can still breed. AP Indy, a very successful sire and race horse, is a ridgeling.

Hope everyone on the east coast stays safe!
Thank you, Z and Team Zenyatta for everything. You are an inspiration and blessing every day.

@Laura J, Thank you very much.

LauraJ: your knowledge of horses continually astounds me. Must say thank you–your very clear explanations help this Eastern tenderfoot who loves horses very much.

Laura J: forgot to say I am still rereading your explanation of track surfaces…they can really have an effect on the horses…I was just afraid that the synthetic tracks caused more injuries but didn’t want to believe that. If you’ve ever explained your background here on Zenny’s diary, I missed it. Would love to know how you know all you know and can explain it so well!! Bravo, Laura, and thank you again.

ooh zenny the baby bump is showing you so adorable and too cute stay cool love ya.

Zenyatta, you are so special and loved in so many ways and I am sure that your thoughts go back to barn 55 many times. Those were your galant years and you found so much love there. It was such a special time for you that I’m sure it will remain with you forever. The people at barn55 will also remember this as such a special time and it will also remain with them forever. I know that you are adjusting well at Lanes End and that is good but one has to realize that you are that way. The reason you are what you are is because you do what you do and you do it gracefully. There will never be another Queen Zenyatta and we all know it. I love you so much Zenny and want you to be happy always. So glad you keep your memories because they are my memories also and it helps brighten up my day.
Kimberly Potter
@Susan in TN~ Your welcome! and it is “Montanan’s” lol..it’s a word.
@ALL~ On the East Coast in the path of Irene, hunker down and be safe. Let us all know how it goes when you can. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Sweet dreamz my beautiful Zenyatta…and Zen Nation
Zenyatta’s #1 fan in Montana!

@Judy B
Loved the Green saddle cloth She won twice in
It and Blame won once. Zenny is still the greatest
All the greats lose at some time. And to lose like Zenny
Did in 2010 is as if to really win for the greatest
Effort of all time. Everyone was so caught up with
Her perfection, but in most her races she expended
Little effort and was able to conserve, the mark of
A mature horse beyond her years, to win. The BCC
2010 was maximal effort in a horrendous situation
And to come so close was UNBELIEVABLE. And perhaps
That younger colt with raging testosterone had
A little edge, but not much!!!!! Go Zenny!!!
Signofthetimes
Stay safe for all the East Coast Z fans.
