Good Morning, dear friends!
It is such a glorious day outside. As a result, I am able to just stand under the trees and graze for a bit. This is just like I would do at Barn 55! It reminds me so much of those moments in my California Home!
The weather has been rather lovely…and I am enjoying every single moment of my time outdoors. I must say, I have adjusted beautifully to my new life and my ‘new career’ as a MOM-TO-BE!
I am wearing my ‘sunglasses’ often these days…not just for the sun but to keep those ‘adorable…yet pesty flies’ off my face. These masks really work.
As you can see, I am ‘growing’ a bit…but in all of the right ways. While relaxing and grazing, I do use the time to think about so many things!
It is always interesting to reflect upon what one has achieved and the different paths one may experience in life. Last year at this time, I had just won #18 in a row and my 3rd Clement Hirsch-G1 stakes. I was enjoying a few weeks of RNR after the race with MY JOHN, Mario, and Steve at Del Mar. The cool ocean breezes were making it such a comfortable environment. I was also grazing on the grass and standing by trees…just like I am now.
Some things in life change and one’s life goes through various stages. Other things remain very much the same…and constant! I am such a BLESSED HORSE. I have been so fortunate to experience all of the different stages of being a very successful and world-class athlete in my sport…and yet have so many special and sweet things in my life stay happily the same.
Lucky ME!
With Love,
Hugs to All~
Z

Hi, sweet girl,
–
Love the recent photos of you…yes, your ‘baby bump’ is beginning to show quite a bit, but on you, it looks great! Being such a “big girl” (I always loved how YOUR JOHN affectionately referred to you as “the big girl”), you carry the extra pounds very well, indeed!
–
Like a lot of your fans, I often watch some of your old races, and the tears that flow are a bittersweet mixture of joy and sorrow. Joy at the wonderful career you had, how talented you were on the track, how you always brought your best game; but sorrow that it had to end sometime…after all, you couldn’t race forever! So very thankful that you retired sound and in good shape! Everytime I watch a “come from behind” run by another horse, you always float across my mind…and, when they have a shadow roll like you wore, well, the picture is complete!

Lots of terrific racing action this weekend! And YOUR JOHN has Mr. Commons running in the Del Mar Mile on Saturday with YOUR MIKE aboard! Here’s the Card for that race: http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/race/USA/DMR/2011/8/27/8/del-mar-mile-h
Good luck to Your John and all his horses running (two others on Friday at Del Mar, races 6 and 7)! All come home safe!

Thanks for posting this update Zenny. Horse racing has a lot going on with a big weekend coming up, and yet, we still miss you. I thought of you after watching Sister Moon’s win recently…. Wow! Very impressive. Take care of yourself and your little one and keep the updates and pictures coming.

@J Smith: I couldn’t manage to copy and paste, but I will post TROTT info on my FB page. I have read a fair amount about them and they do great work!
@The Kennedys: I know- is there anything more relaxing than listening to horses munching hay or grass? That it was Zenyatta makes it kind of surreal!
@Kimberly Potter: That WAS a good article, wasn’t it? Thanks for posting and best wishes to your other Montanians!(not a word, I’m sure)
@Everyone: Have a GREAT day <3

Dearest Zenyatta,
Thank God that the really lovely things in life never change–like grazing under a tree, watching a blue, blue sky, and feeling a soft breeze. You are truly blessed, dear Queen, and you truly deserve to be!
Have a happy Thursday as you enjoy the outdoors and all your pals at Lane’s End.
Love,
Stel

Sweet pic. Baby is certainly getting bigger!

Memories, bittersweet for Barn 55, I’m sure.
Memories; I never saw you except on TV. Now it seems, too late to ever see you.
Hugs and Prayers

Z, you’re looking so chic in the flymask.
I was doing a little research on a gray filly (in ’09) named Careless Jewel, sired by Tapit. I just love the grays! Anyway, she retired after a good racing career that just happened to bump up against the lovely Rachel. Anyway, she was retired and sold (at a hefty price). I heard she is in foal to Street Cry, your sire! Won’t that in be a lovely baby to watch for! Have a wonder day everyone, and Z…enjoy that beautiful place you’re in.

I just came across this quote and thought it speaks so well about Zenyatta and so many other great horses we’ve been privileged to know:
“About the head of a truly great horse there is an air of freedom unconquerable. The eyes seem to look on heights beyond our gaze. It is the look of a spirit that can soar. It is not confined to horses even in pictures you can see it in the eyes of the Bonaparte. It is the birthright of eagles.”

YEAH I got to see you win #18. You look so happy it would be so great if all retired horses could have a wonderful life after racing. It is encouraging to know there are so many organizations out there that are working towards ensuring a happy retirement or new vocation for our wonderful equine friends. lots of hugs

Good morning Sweet “Z” and little “z”,
Yes, you certainly are a ‘Blessed Horse!’ And your whole Team is blessed as well with goodness reaching far and wide!. You are showing now, and it is ever so precious to contemplate! Have a lovely day relaxing and munching with your little companion…

To Michelle: Thank you, that is a beautiful quote and very uplifting!

To TC: Thanks for today’s joke on the previous Diary! We can always count on you for a smile and a laugh!

To Kc: Miss you! Hope to see you here on “Z’s green” soon!

but that all horses could be so lucky. What happens to some, no to many, is a tragedy… Old Friends is a wonderful effort at remedying a very sad problem as is the Ferdinand/Exceller Fund… I know Z you do all you can to help. Thank you.
Barbara Wood
@Sarah–thank you for supplying us with these great pictures. Yes,Z is a BLESSED horse, and she has blessed US more than she could ever know.
@Michelle–thanks for the beautiful quote. I remember feeling like that about Eddington when we were with him at Claiborne. He was standing right in front of us and peering off into the distance. I’ve never forgotten it. And to think, Z is bigger that he is!
@Terry Crow–I left you a message at the end of #326.
