Good Morning,
Yesterday was an especially FUN and REWARDING DAY for ME! I was able to relax, graze, and reconnect with dear friends.
As many of you may know, one charity I have consistently worked to help throughout ALL of my career is OLD FRIENDS. This organization which is based out of Kentucky (and now has a branch, The Frankel Division, in New York by Saratoga) works to enable “OLD” racehorses….no matter what their ages….to live their lives with joy, purpose, and dignity.
Michael Blowen is the founder of OLD FRIENDS. Yesterday, he came out to visit with ME and update ME on the progress, accomplishments, and goals we are meeting….and how I have helped in this quest.
A dear friend of Michael’s, for many years…since he was a writer for the Boston Globe….came along for the visit. I think she was truly as excited to MEET ME as I was to be introduced to her! Her name is Angie Dickinson. Angie has spent her life in the entertainment industry and met so many amazing people…but, I must say, I think she really did GET A KICK out of meeting ME! Every time she touched ME…she giggled. Now this is TOO CUTE!
Additionally, Angie has also done a great deal on so many levels to support OLD FRIENDS.
I truly believe it is FABULOUS that my dear retired racehorse pals have so many wonderful people from so many different walks of life who constantly do SO MUCH behind the scenes to help. For Angie, Michael and myself….it is a gesture guided by passion and love for the HORSE. We are extremely grateful for all of the generosity and LOVE people show to our dear ‘retired’ racehorse friends.
With Love,
Hugs to All~(Great meeting you Angie!)

I remember Ms. Dickinson in the original (and best) Oceans 11. She held her own with Frank Sinatra who was bigger than life at that time.

You have done so many wonderful things and supporting Old Friends is absolutely one of the best in my opinion that you still do. You are so special Zenyatta and you mean so much to me-hopefully someday I will get to visit you in person. Just have to get my cancer at bay and maybe sometime next yr. I will be able to come and see you and possibly your little baby. You help to keep my going and you give me hope and strength to get through all of this trying stuff in my life right now. I am so ever grateful to have been alive to witness all the greatness that you have done. I love you lots. You sparkle and shine brighter than any star up above. I love you lots, Zenyatta! Love and blessings to you.

Angie is a wonderful lady and no matter how many celebs you meet in life there is only one Zenyatta! Meeeting you was the thrill of my life I even joked with Your John that I was never going to wash my hand after petting you. Zen you radiate all that is good and pure in the world! Reading this post made me giggle because my friend and I were giggling through the shedrow on the way to your stall. You snub us at first but once we starte gigging and gushing over you you walked right up to us and you kissed my friend. John said you realized we were fans and you and you would give us a show and you did pawing the ground and you even did a runway model turn in your stall showing off from every angle it was like you were super connected to us and you were generously sharing yourself with us. Love and miss you Zenyatta!

Zenny, you get to meet the most interesting people! :)
I’ve been trying to catch up on the posts but someone else said it is hard when there is so many.
@Kari Bussell–read your post from yesterday, last night, but was too shocked to reply. Along with everyone else, thoughts, prayers and hugs to you. Loved the Tempo video.
@Sharon in Seattle–missed your post while trying to catch up, but thoughts, prayers and hugs to you too.
Also to anyone else going thru rough times right now.
Great postings from Dawn Conrad, DJ and quite a few others I’m forgetting. Wish there were more hours in a day to spend here.
RIP Kensei who was euthanized after breaking down during a gallop at Belmont. Found the info at Bloodhorse.com, not sure about the link so I can’t post it.
Just love spending the end of my evenings with Zenny and all the Dumplingz. Such wonderful spirits here.
Everyone have a great end of the week.
Lotsa love to all.

I made my bi-weekly donation to Old Friends yesterday. It is a great charity and if not for Zenny, I never would have known about it. Nice to see Angie Dickinson! A very fne actress and one of my husband’s favorites.

@ Kari – The video of Tempo was delightful, she was having a ball. You had me in tears with Secretariat and laughing with Tempo.
@ The Kennedys – Another little gem. Now I’ll think of Zenny and Mario every time I get stuck behind a semi in the passing lane.
@ Terry C – Don’t want to admit to it but I did think that some of my friends might be down below too.

SARATOGA –
Race 5 – “Daba Daba” broke last, ran last all the way and finished last. Daba and Hannibal, the horse that won it, were the only two breeze fig horses in the race. After comparing them to the rest of the field they both looked about the same to me so I went with Daba because he had a race. Also when I think I have it narrowed down to two horses I always go with the one with the highest odds. I especially follow this rule when a top trainer has two horses in the race that are not coupled. Always go with the higher odds of the two. The time was so-so -$10.00

DEL MAR –
Race 3 – For me “Punch Drunk” is the worst kind of horse to bet on as far as the odds are concerned. Her ML odds were 7/2 and she was floating around 2/1 with a minute to go. She is already an underlay at this point. She jumped up to 5/2 with just under a minute to go so I bet her. The next click she went to 8/5 and after the bell rang the next click was 3/2 after we already bet. There is not much you can do after you bet that close to post time, but we should have passed. Anyway she ran OK and had the rail open up but didn’t have the horse and finished 3rd. The winner “Ask Me Later” ran a very good race in a very good time. This race could very well be a key race. We have to watch the others coming back. The track is getting faster. Granny started needling me. I said “Well you lost a $1.20 today too” LOL -$10.00

-$20.00 Today +$231.20 Starting Out The Day Tomorrow

@ Lisa g – Yes and I haven’t had any problem. There are many sites out there and I don’t know about them all. I use ExpressBet.com.

For “Z” Friends who would like to share an Evening Prayer:
…………………………………
O gladsome light, O grace
Of God the Father’s face,
The eternal splendour wearing;
Celestial, holy, blest,
Joyful in thine appearing.
Now, ere day fadeth quite,
We see the evening light,
Our wonted hymn outpouring;
Father of might unknown,
His Holy Spirit Adoring.
To thee of right belongs
All praise of holy songs,
O blest Lord, Life-giver:
Thee therefore, O most High,
The world doth glorify,
And shall exalt for ever.

Good evening Zenyatta,
wow, is that the same Angie Dickenson of the famed Rat Pack of the wild & wooly 60’s?
I didn’t know she was still alive. :)
She also did a tv show called Police Woman. I always thought she was pretty cool.
Well, so nice to get all these personals from you, and to know you’re well taken care of and thought of, and through that helping less fortunate.
Have a restful night
And tonight’s chuckle is:

RIP Kensei. There are getting to be WAY too many breakdowns. It is situations like these that make people give up following the horses. I’m feeling ill just about now thinking of it.
Dearest Z–every time we hear of a breakdown, we just cringe inside. There is so much “bad stuff” going on right now. I will admit that when I first heard you were returning in 2010, I couldn’t help feeling a twinge of fear that maybe something would happen to you. But you are safe and sound and continue to delight us all. Love you always.
