Good Morning,
Yesterday was an especially FUN and REWARDING DAY for ME! I was able to relax, graze, and reconnect with dear friends.
As many of you may know, one charity I have consistently worked to help throughout ALL of my career is OLD FRIENDS. This organization which is based out of Kentucky (and now has a branch, The Frankel Division, in New York by Saratoga) works to enable “OLD” racehorses….no matter what their ages….to live their lives with joy, purpose, and dignity.
Michael Blowen is the founder of OLD FRIENDS. Yesterday, he came out to visit with ME and update ME on the progress, accomplishments, and goals we are meeting….and how I have helped in this quest.
A dear friend of Michael’s, for many years…since he was a writer for the Boston Globe….came along for the visit. I think she was truly as excited to MEET ME as I was to be introduced to her! Her name is Angie Dickinson. Angie has spent her life in the entertainment industry and met so many amazing people…but, I must say, I think she really did GET A KICK out of meeting ME! Every time she touched ME…she giggled. Now this is TOO CUTE!
Additionally, Angie has also done a great deal on so many levels to support OLD FRIENDS.
I truly believe it is FABULOUS that my dear retired racehorse pals have so many wonderful people from so many different walks of life who constantly do SO MUCH behind the scenes to help. For Angie, Michael and myself….it is a gesture guided by passion and love for the HORSE. We are extremely grateful for all of the generosity and LOVE people show to our dear ‘retired’ racehorse friends.
With Love,
Hugs to All~(Great meeting you Angie!)

They really love you at Old Friends, Z. When I called to order my calendar, I was in conversation with one of the ladies there and she said so many wonderful (and true)things about you and how much they all love you there.
No way, Angie Dickinson? I’ve been a fan of hers for years and years and wondered what she was up to. I’m glad to know it’s doing something like supporting Old Friends.

Queen Moma Z: Yesterday we saw you wrapped in a rainbow, studying its reflections dancing at your feet, with Baby Z truly making his/her presence known through your shining coat. What a treat! In our hearts, you are surely both rainbow and treasure. Thanks to Sarah for such an exquisite photo and to Dottie for sharing you with us on a daily basis. We are blessed.
@Kari Bussell: You have been a constant rainbow, leading us to our treasured Zenyatta. Your obviously love-infused videos of Z have brought us pure delight and preserved for us cherished memories. We are blessed by AnimalsRock4Love.
@Kari Bussell and Sharon in Seattle: As you both climb your mountains, all of us want to wrap ourselves like a rainbow around you with love and support. We are awed by your courage.

Dear Great One,
That is very interesting that Angie Dickinson came out to see you! I believe she was the actress who had her legs insured for $1 million. I’ll bet your legs are even more valuable!!!!! I’m so glad to know she is a supporter of race horse retirement. Everyone should be! Glad you are doing so well, girl. You look terrific!
Your humble J

I have to say thank you Zenyatta for always making the days uplifting.. I suffer from depression (I got diagnosed finally back in February and luckily the medication is helping).. I do still have my bad days where I feel the worst and your posts always put a smile on my face..
Tomorrow is a somber day for my family. We lost my grandfather exactly one year ago tomorrow.. He was 88 years old.. Its amazing how fast this year has gone by.. We miss him and still cry over the loss of him but the good memories of him will help us get through the tough times.

Good Morning Zeny!
Wow, Angie Dickinson, the actress? I only know one – she was one of my favorite actresses. Was famous for her million dollar legs during her prime! So happy to hear she is involve in Old Friends. How we wish and pray there will be more Old Friends. When I win the Lottery Zeny – I promise to help Old Friends and do more for all the retired horses who deserve to live the rest of their lives with joy, purpose and dignity (like you and the lucky ones)!Hugs and prayers going your way..Marilu

@Anna M. I’m so glad you finally got a diagnosis and medication and that it’s helping. I hope, also, that you’re getting counseling as needed as that can be such a cathartic thing to do. Losing someone is never, never easy but I’m glad you have the good memories to sustain you right now. As I tell so many people going through tough times, keep a high heart as much as you can. Find pleasure in the supposed “little” things like the smell of fresh-cut grass, sunrises and sunsets, a beautiful bird or flower. Perhaps you already do these things and if you do then you know how much they can ease your soul. Sorry, I didn’t mean to preach a lecture but I try to reach out to someone the way others have reached out to me.

If I recall it was Burt Bacharach, Angie Dickinson’s ex-husband, who encouraged Jerry Moss to become a Thoroughbred owner. Burt himself had been an owner for some time.

Hello Pretty Girl! You look gorgeous!!!! I love you Zenyatta!
Dawn Conrad
Dear Zenyatta. Hello gorgeous. I love the picture of you and Angie Dickinson, one star meets another. (In fact, we may just have to start working on a Zenyatta star for the Walk of Fame.) Your description of her giggles whenever she was touching you is just TOO CUTE!! I have heard Michael talk about both you and Angie often, as well as Jerry and Ann. You are so wonderful to support Old Friends, one of my most favorite places ever. Hope you continue to have a fabulous day. Sweet dreams. Hug and kisses. XXXOOO
@To dear Kari, Sharon in Seattle, John’s mother and my amazing Z friends who have or are facing a difficult time and to those wonderful souls who are offering support, after reading some of your marvelous messages last night and today, I was thinking about that fragile thing called life. As I sat in comtemplation, my eyes rested on the clock on the wall. There it was counting down the seconds, minutes and hours of my life and yours. Ticking away in a cadence to match the beat of my heart. The movement of its hands, measuring the time that we work away or wish away or waste away. It measures pain and suffering as well as joy. Regrets and dreams flow together. It counts the moments in which we laugh or cry, are challenged or rewarded, learn or teach, create or destroy, criticize or appreciate, celebrate or let pass by. But, when we really slow down, when we see the rainbow Zenny and Dottie describe or search for spiritual guidance, when we stroke our pets head or hug a family member, gaze upon a piece of art or stop and smell a rose, when we are generous and kind and try to make a difference, truly experiencing and savoring each second that passes, well you see that is where I believe human time ends and God’s time begins. That ticking clock doesn’t measure the passing of the seasons, the stars in the sky, the fullness of the moon or the glory of the sunrise. It doesn’t measure the height of a mighty mountain peak, the river carved canyon, rushing waterfalls, sunlight filtered through the branches of a tree, the beauty of Zenyatta or the miracle of a new life’s birth; for only God’s time does that. Those clock hands, do not count the lives we touch, the memories we make and hold dear or the love we share and receive, which never ends. These things are only on God’s time. I believe that miracles do happen!!! We cannot anticipate or predict, expect or control. Peace and joy, courage and strength, enlightenment and acceptance, they are all part of God’s time. No matter our individual beliefs, we can all rest in the assurance that we are part of something much greater than ourselves. A life well lived is counted in God’s time and ends or begins only in God’s time. May we all find serenity living not by the hands of the clock on the wall, but in the beauty of the hands of God. Blessings to you all!
