Happy Friday!
I hope all of you are making some fun plans for the weekend. I am! This morning I had the most relaxing time. Not only did I have a very cool and refreshing BATH, but I also got to play in the water with my guys! It felt terrific!
As you can see, it is a very pretty morning in Lexington. Lane’s End is such a beautiful place to live. I am really enjoying myself.
Sarah took these photos this morning so you could get a chance to see ME as I am at this very moment. I’m doing everything just as a should….as an expectant MOM…. and I am really starting to have that ‘IN FOAL’ look.
Baby-to-be and I are doing GREAT! Everyone is so gracious to ME! My dear paddock pal, Tasty Temptation, and I are enjoying every single moment of this attention. I must say…I really feel SO PAMPERED and LOVED. LUCKY ME!
This weekend, as has been the case often this summer, both Del Mar and Saratoga are featuring some very competitive Grade 1 races. This time for 3 year old fillies….one on the main track and one on the dirt. Other race tracks are also offering some terrific races. I hope you have a great time handicapping and enjoying our SPORT!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

@Lisa g. Yes, I had noticed that Mo admires all of the nice fillies. Let us hope that he is well enough next week to win the KB, and that Thirsty can do the same in the Travers like his daddy, Bernardini, did. Thirsty like his sire is a very talented late bloomer. I love both Mo and Thirsty.

@Abigail of Montreal–I’m sorry, I meant to include you too in my post directed to Brenda S about Inglorious. Better luck next time.

@JudyB
Yes, I got the jockey calendar on the link you sent a few posts ago. Thanks for that. They are such hunks, just small.

Dear Signofthetimes:
Yes, we do think alike. Hugs, J.B.

@Max, I love them both dearly to, I just knew Thirsty was going to win the Belmont, it would have been nice…his Daddie the Preakness and he the Belmont. He is a mudder like his daddie and daddie before him. I hope they both win, worried about Coil, but I think he will make it.

Dear Lisa g.:
You’re welcome. Me too. I like learning all the different aspects involved with Thoroughbreds. They’re so majestic and beautiful, especially you know who. Hugs, J.B.
Lisa g
@Abigail in Montreal, everybody know she is a Great, Excellent, Fantastic horse..she beat the boys, even. It was dirt in a ladies face, that is all. She is Fantastic and Beautiful…
Lisa g
Watching Del Mar, looking for Dumplingz, it seems strange to see people outside in the middle of the day and not sweating…like you do here in Texas right now.

Dear Lisa g.:
As Signofthetimes said in an earlier post, racing after a fracture is risky. I personally hope they make a decision carefully and in the best interest of Awesome Maria. Hugs, J.B.

Dear Maxl:
You are so right. When you hear about all the injuries, Z’s four years of racing and what she accomplished is more than amazing. Thank God she raced sound and retired sound. Hugs, J.B.

Dear Abigail in Montreal:
I hope Inglorious just didn’t like the track and nothing is amiss. She is a beautiful, wonderful filly who beat the boys. Hugs, J.B.

The other day when I was thinking about Zenyatta (I do that a lot), I had an inspiration about a name for her foal. It doesn’t follow the music industry theme, but how about Zenzational? It does say something about our favorite mare who has made horse lovers of those who never were before, and those of us who always were have gone to a different stratosphere. And it’s a great place to be.Thank you for all the great memories of your brilliant career. Someone mentioned on HRTV that when Mike Smith was asked if he missed Zenyatta, he replied “Only on days that end in “y”. Me too.
Trina Nagele
@Peggy N—I look forward to you report about your up-coming visit to the Ocala sales and hope you see lots of what you like. I remember what a good time you had there in the April. Have fun and a safe trip!

Dear Linda in Fla.:
Enjoyed your post. Thank you. Name is very appropriate. Hugs, J.B.

Ms Zenyatta, saw Your John, he looked so sweet and happy. Nereid came in a good 3rd, thought she had it for a bit..this was a very stressful race for me..haha..Summer Soiree was excellent..Congratulations to her..Lisa g.
Lisa g
Linda in Fla: Too Sweet, only on the days that end with ‘Y’, me too. Seeing Dancing Queen again today..I miss her so much. Thanks for that cute news. Mikey is a doll and JB is enjoying him in her calendar…for charity, that is. Lisa g.

SARATOGA –
Race 2 – “Unbridled Command” ran the best of the three and paid $7.50 to show for Granny. She showed a profit of $1.50 in this race. “Mississippi Duel” came from off the pace but could only reach 4th. He went off a nickel under 2-1 ($1.95-1) and he was the favorite. “Swag Daddy” raced 5th all the way around and ended up that way. In this race the top five horses all had experience and the bottom five were all fist time starters. The time was slow. We finished 2nd, 4th, & 5th. -$6.00
.
Race 6 – Judy, nice call on “B Shanny”, you got half your exacta. I liked “Tripendicular” too so I was rooting for him. He was up in the mix for a while and then fell back to 7th. “Grandpa Len” ran a good race and finished 3rd. “Flashy Sunrise” was behind Tri and made up a few spots at the end and finished 8th. The time was a little below average. Granny picked up 80 cents on this race. They finished 3rd, 7th, & 8th. -$6.00
.
Race 8 – WOW what a race! “Ancil” and “Honor Call” were battling for the lead with “Saturday Classic” in deep stretch and in the last few jumps the #1 and the #10 came flying in the picture. The top six horses all finished with in 3 lengths of each other. Granny cashed one ticket. The time was OK. My horses ended up 3rd, 5th & 6th. -$6.00
.
DEL MAR –
Race 2 – “Inquisitive Son” bumped in upper stretch and had to steady, had to steady again in mid-stretch, and then the jockey lost his whip around the 1/16th pole and he was still was only 4 ½ lengths from the winner. Four out of the seven horses in the race went off at odds between 2-1 and 3-1. The time wasn’t bad. Son ended up finishing 5th. -$10.00
.
Race 6 – “Sweet Swap” won easy and was the even money favorite. If I was at the track I would have passed but we are playing them as I put them up. “My Best Brother” never fired and “Mr. Newton” was pressing the pace and the rail opened up for him and he ducked in there. I don’t know what happened after that, but either the jockey felt something wrong or he just didn’t try because he thought it was hopeless but when they straightened for home the jock never let the rains out and never hit him. The time was very good, only 5 ticks or so off the track record. Granny cashed a little one. Today Grams bet $26 and got back $21 so she lost $5 today. Our horses finished 1st, 2nd to dead last, and dead last. I had the dead last exacta, LOL -$6.00
.
-$34.00 Bet +$193.20 Going Into Tomorrow – I’m slowly giving it all back to them, LOL

Second (Star Billing) and third (Neireid) in the Grade I Del Mar Oaks is pretty darn good! They both ran incredible races, and in another jump or two, the story might have had a very different ending. Congratulations, to the beautiful winner, Summer Soiree! Star and Neireid should figure very prominently in the major preps leading to the BC. They are both bred to the purple.

Dearest Z, Hope you’re having a wonderful day. We’re having fun thinking of names for your little one.
@Linda in FL–Loved your quote from Mike Smith. Also, Zenzational is a great name it it’s available.
@Lisa G–I agree that Alberto, as a tribute to Herb Alpert, Jerry Moss’s partner in A&M records, would be a super name for a colt.
@Terry Crow–I totally agree that Sweet Music Man would be a perfect name in tribute to Jerry Moss, but I sort of think he would be too humble to use it himself, don’t you?
Trina Nagele
Congratulations to John on second and third with Star Billing and Nereid! Love those fillies.

Hi Zenny and all,
To my surprise my husband and I ended up going to the Saratoga, NY race track today- about 2-½ hr. drive. I had looked into information on it a while back, but decided it looked like an impossible treck – a lot of traffic and probably not get parking very close – never been to the track before.
But a couple ladies posted they were headed for Saratoga. So Friday I was inspired with the thought, (since it looked like it was going to be a beautiful day today, Saturday), we could look at it as just taking a nice drive and probably end up turning around and coming home without even reaching the track. I put on my Dumpling tag and off we went. Lo and behold, I’m sure the Lord directly blessed the whole day.
We got gas at a station where we had to pay ahead – my husband sent me in with the money saying we were at pump #3. So I said to myself, if I were to place a bet, I’d put it on horse #3.
We made it to the track (about a half hour of inch driving traffic as we neared I-87) and easily parked in a free parking section. There was a little walk, but that was good – we needed it. We arrived just in time to see the 3rd race. And, would you believe it? Horse #3 WON !!! (I did not bet thoughL.) We watched the 4th race and Horse #4 won. Horse #3 came in second. And we got to our car and left the parking lot at 3 p.m. The whole day was beautiful. Blessings & LOL, Arlene

@Trina N. I do like Alberto, it just came to me, it could be Italian as well as Spanish, honoring Bernardini at the same time…Lisa g.

Good evening Zenyatta,
hope tonight finds you relaxing on your straw, sleeping tight, and dreaming of carrots & mints
I bid you good night and leave you with this chuckle:
I have never been to an Al-Qaeda Christmas party, but I have seen the invites. No music, no dancing, but we promise the fastest game of pass the parcel you’ve ever seen. Unknown
