Good Morning All!
John and Dottie were on their way back to the barn yesterday afternoon when these adorable POODLES were driving right next to them with their owner. SOPHIE thought they looked just like her….only MUCH bigger!
John simply had to get this photo. (Needless to say, Dottie was driving!) The 2 dogs in the back sure seemed to be enjoying every moment of the summer breeze while driving around town. I think lots of our 4-legged pals LOVE DEL MAR!
The real point of John and Dottie’s trip from the barn was to go to the market and purchase more dandelion leaves for the horses. Per MY JOHN, they absolutely love them! I do remember that John always tried to have some fun and different things for us to munch on and play with all of the time….often with the primary objective being to change the pace from our normal routine…and KEEP THINGS HEALTHY AND FUN FOR US!
Perhaps you remember meeting my BARN 55 friend, BRONZE BEAUTY. In an earlier diary, I referred to her as “Sleeping Beauty” as she LOVES her naps. Well, John also knows she LOVES dandelion leaves. So much so, she’ll wake up to have them. Please enjoy her photos. She is a DOLL!
It can be pretty terrific to be a lucky DOG or a fortunate HORSE enjoying life in DEL MAR!
With Love,
Hugs to All~(Have some fun today!)

For “Z Friends” who would like to share in a Night Prayer:
……………………………….
Darkening night the land doth cover:
Day is over
We give thanks, O thou most high:
While in song we now adore thee,
And implore thee
For the light that doth not die.
Like a day one short life lasteth;
Soon it wasteth;
Cometh surely its sad eve:
O do thou that eve enlighten,
Save and brighten;
Nor old age of joy bereave.
Come no pain nor pity near it:
Bless and cheer it,
That in peace our peace we win:
As thou wilt, do thou us gather,
Gracious Father,
Freed at last from fear and doubt.
Now we pray for rest that sleeping
In thy keeping,
We may joy in thy sun’s ray:
So through this Eve’s last dark take us,
So awake us
To the light of heaven’s new day.

Today’s posting was terrific. Loved the pictures and everyone’s comments. Went to Ebby’s facebook page, Lisa’s Booby Trap, and other horse sites. Thanks to all for the interesting information and the cheer and good will that comes from a place of happiness and good will toward all. Curious as to where your John purchased dandelions or did he go to a nearby ranch? Lots of fields in and around Del Mar/RSF & Olivenhein area.
Thanks to the Kennedy’s for their tidbits re: Mario. I really agree. I think Mario should write a book!

HOW TO CHANGE WHITE-ON-BLACK TO BLACK-ON-WHITE—
To all who want to copy and paste things from this website, but want to wind up with black type on a plain white background: I haven’t been able to read through the posts yet today because I was at my school, Ventura College, going to meetings in preparation for the new semester, which starts Monday (don’t know how I’ll keep up when classes are in session either!), but the good thing is that I was able to consult one of the computer instructors there, and he told me how to change the “format” when I want to copy and paste from Z’s site. It was Judy Berube, I think, who posted on how things worked on her computer with a “merge” option, but I couldn’t get that with my MS Office 2003, but what I , and I hope all of you too, CAN do is the following. First, after copying and pasting a comment from Z’s site into a document, highlight it, then go to the little down arrow just to the left of the box in the toolbar that lets you select a font. The arrow to the left serves the box to its left, of course, which is the formatting box. Click on the arrow, then choose “clear formatting,” and the highlighted text in your document will change to a black font on a plain white background, so nice for printing! Hope this helps someone besides myself. If anyone wants more detail on highlighting or copying and pasting, feel free to e-mail me at trinambn@yahoo.com. Yours in Dumplinghood, Trina Nagele

PS re: HOW TO CHANGE WHITE-ON-BLACK TO BLACK-ON-WHITE—
What I posted on an earlier diary page about being able to effect the change by pasting into an e-mail, then copying and pasting that into a document, worked for me that evening, but didn’t work for me today. Sometimes my computer seems to get tired, and then it does things it wouldn’t do otherwise. I think that technique only works when my computer is tired and not feeling up to par. Sorry about that, but the technique above should work just fine.

To JAG:
Just spoke up for the wild horses and burros of Pryor Mountains. Thanks for the link.

@Mary Copelin– Thank you so much! You make me feel special. Very, very kind of you. I so enjoyed meeting you at Hollywood Park, and hope we, and many other Dumplings too, can have more good times there in the coming season. Yours in Dumplinghood, Trina

For those with other computer programs, it was DMCQ who explained on August 16 how she changed the white-on-black to black-on-white—different method. Thanks DMCQ!
Trina Nagele
@Bonnie MacRaith—Thanks for the great nutrition info on dandelion greens!
@ENSIGN—Hoof-ray for you! You told us all first!

To my Z friends: Thank you for the “welcome backs”-Judy B, Terry Crow, Barbara Wood, DJ <3
@JudyB: Thanks for posting River Edge's website for DMCQ and for all the racing info posted!
@Terry Crow: I think Chester probably IS your kind of guy!
@DJ: Sass will appreciate his "treat"!
@Barbara Wood: Thank you for donating! I am PROUD to claim you and all my Z friends! Jane at the rescue forwarded me an email she sent Trina N thanking her for donating and said Zenyatta's people have been so great-and you have. I wish you could ALL meet the Sweeties, as Judy B calls them, because they just do something special to you.
Christine in VA, I wish you were close to me because I know lots of soft velvet noses that would LOVE for you to pet them!
@Barbara Wood: Have things eased up at all weather and rain-wise? Things are better here for sure.
@DMCQ: I will get some new pictures (esp. Chester) and try to post them on Z's FB page. I actually don't know how to do that but surely (haha) I can figure it out! If you go to River Edge's FB page, there is a link to a Kodak Gallery slide show of the horses taken in June. They do not have names listed but Rusty and Rootbeer are the ones with the red Jollyball that Shari Volz sent and Sass is the only foal-but he has changed so much that I definitely need new pics of him!- and Chester is the chestnut grazing alone(from the side, fairly close-up). The link is about the 7th post down on the page. Thank you for caring!
@Anne: I am enjoying your Saratoga tidbits. It looks so beautiful there-I would love to visit the different tracks you all have talked about someday.
@The Kennedys: Wow-I love the Mario and Zenyatta stories. He could definitely write a book! A book about Zenyatta with short anecdotes written by the people who knew her (including fans) and photos? A sure best-seller! I am always having ideas for OTHER people to write books about(ahem, Terry C!)- guess I'm a writer wanna-be!
Isn't it wonderful that Uncle Mo is doing s well? I was sharing a Vitamin water with Rusty and Rootbeer one day and explained to them that Mike Repole had made LOTS of money from it but that was good because he could take such good care of Uncle Mo!
Exciting news about a full sibling to Zenny!
@Trina Nagele: What do you teach, if you don't mind me asking?
LauraJ
@Judy B, no idea what’s going on with Step any more. :-( His friend Wewe, who has the same trainer, has been scratched from his last two races. May just be coincidence, or maybe some bug is going around.
Susan in TN
@DMCQ: Also, Chester is the one in the photos wearing the fly mask, courtesy of his friend Sharon Call!

Dear ZENYATTA Fans Thank you all so much for your suggestions on how to get information on thoroughbreds from the past at various web sites. Also, thanks for the suggestions regarding dvds as well. We do get TVG but not HGTV here. I have found “The Vault” by Abigail from Montreal. I so enjoyed reading about Seattle Slew & all the rest. Abigail, you write so informatively & with such love. Thanks again all.

@Baby Bumps ———————————–08-19-11 (11:45 pm est.)
.
There are two tykes at Saratoga today, race 1 & race 7. Both fields are small and there will probably be some scratches. Got to go Win Bet on these two races. Below 2-1 pass, I know do you have to keep saying it? LOL. Del Mar has three little tykes, race 1, race 2, and race 7. We will play a Baby Double since the races are right next to each other and I know how much we like to save money so it’s a 2 for 1 bet, two races for the price of one. We will baby bump box the 7th. We got to hit one for Zen soon I hope.

@SARATOGA –

Good morrning Sweet Zenyatta and little Z, I love taking a mini time out and scanning Your page and catching up with Your Dumplingz and friends. Thanks so much for sharing with me!
To: Denise: I finally got in to Flickr last night and found you! You are a wonderful photographer! I also am missing my chocolate lab, Ruthie, and yours reminded me about how sweet and generous and goofy she was. Did you also post on Z’s FaceBook? It sure looked like a fiesty hot pepper kind of colt! He is too cute!
To Susan in TN and Judy berube: Thank you my friends! I went to the site and I did see several pictures of the sweeties. If you say yes, next week I will try the link to Kodak and see if I can post on Z’s FaceBook. Judy, I loved the Barbara Livingston pictures!
To people who would know: How long do fillys and colts get to stay with their moms?
To Gloria Jeanne: Thanks for link to Vertineux and the one on Nereid and Mr. Kronfeld.
To DJ: I deep fried squash blossoms. One year we ended up with no squash because we kept picking the blooms. LOL! I didn’t think of Dandelion blooms. Gonna try that! Love your menu
Ro Wild Horses(Lori)Ebby has a FaceBook page and it shows on Z’s FB. I check there for pictures.
To Terry C: Cigar and Funnycide have jokes going on. Have you seen them?
To JAG: link on V Espinoza just shows there are some very generous people out there!
To The Kennedys in San Diego: Marvelous Z gems! Mario is such a good hearted person. Thanks for sharing your blessings with us.
To Bonnie MacRath: You confirmed what my mom said, “Eat them! They’re good for you!”
To Amanda Fuller: Thank you for the link to the really great news article.
To All: I thank you for posting. I learn from you every day! Gotta go! Just saw a toad in my house. Going to capture and release outside! Wish me luck…
DMCQ
That should be To Wild Horses…not Ro
sorry!

Hi Queen Z and baby z…hope you’re having a great day!
Kennedys: Thanks for the info on Zenny and Mario. I won’t let my horses read that post so they never know how many pounds of carrots Z ate. I just give them a few baby carrots as a treat!
Terry Crow: Loved the joke about the Pope, plan to share it with my priest this week end.
Barbara Wood
@Susan in TN– you are so welcome. I wish I had tons more $$$ to send. I loved the photo gallery. Everything looks so peaceful and GREEN there. SOrry to say, our situation is worse than ever. 107 yesterday and may get to 109 today. Streets cracking, water mains in Houston breaking, and the agricultural lokkses in TX alone so far have topped $5 billion. We are so tired of the heat.
Barbara Wood
I’m a miserable typist. MUST take time to proofread. Promise to do better.

Barbara Wood: Did not know you were in Texas as well. The heat takes everything out of us physically. My grass is gone.
Barbara Wood
Lisa g– ours too. And we have $300-$400 water bills, not to mention outrageous light bills. Don’t even want to look outside, much less go out after noon.
