Good Morning All!
John and Dottie were on their way back to the barn yesterday afternoon when these adorable POODLES were driving right next to them with their owner. SOPHIE thought they looked just like her….only MUCH bigger!
John simply had to get this photo. (Needless to say, Dottie was driving!) The 2 dogs in the back sure seemed to be enjoying every moment of the summer breeze while driving around town. I think lots of our 4-legged pals LOVE DEL MAR!
The real point of John and Dottie’s trip from the barn was to go to the market and purchase more dandelion leaves for the horses. Per MY JOHN, they absolutely love them! I do remember that John always tried to have some fun and different things for us to munch on and play with all of the time….often with the primary objective being to change the pace from our normal routine…and KEEP THINGS HEALTHY AND FUN FOR US!
Perhaps you remember meeting my BARN 55 friend, BRONZE BEAUTY. In an earlier diary, I referred to her as “Sleeping Beauty” as she LOVES her naps. Well, John also knows she LOVES dandelion leaves. So much so, she’ll wake up to have them. Please enjoy her photos. She is a DOLL!
It can be pretty terrific to be a lucky DOG or a fortunate HORSE enjoying life in DEL MAR!
With Love,
Hugs to All~(Have some fun today!)

Beautiful Zenyatta, I loved another peek at Bronze Beauty, such a funny girl with her dandlions! Please tell Your John thank you for the pictures and for looking for special treats for each of the horses in his care. My mom used to “wilt” (lightly saute’) dandelions greens. I do that when I find them and think of her.
Since it’s summer and McDude loves to ride in the car, he only gets short trips to the little P O. We turn the AC to max until I get “ice cream” head, then I run in and get the mail and run back to the car. When I open the door, it feels like a refrigerator! Just can’t take a chance on McDude getting heat-sick.
Zenyatta, Hope you have a marvelous day and get to be outside if it’s cool enough.
To Arlene:Z-Wows!! What a day for you!!1st and 2nd to post and your Breyer Zenny arriving. As one announcer said: “UNBELIEVEABLE!” :)
To Carole Kennedy: Mighty fine photos on Z’s Face Book page!
Scott a: I’m singing out ZENYATTA too! I’m so glad she’s safe and sound!! Love her! M-M-M-M-M-M-M
To JAG: Been doing that-signing those petitions, sending those letters. Thanks for encouraging everyone to do that! I second that, for sure.
To Eveline: Love it! “Paardebloem” = horse flower. Does parr = horse? You are fascinating! Thanks.
To Susan in TN: If you can, would you please consider posting pictures on Z’s Face Book? I would love to see those wonderful characters you work with, especially Chester!
To Terry C: On yesterday’s joke, we had a lot of that at our house! Not so much anymore since my husband got hearing aids, at least not when he’s wearing them. :) Today’s joke, LOL,thanks.
To All: Looking forward to seeing more races on NBC! Maybe our local stations won’t pre-empt. AL is ALL about football. Have a wonderful Z-day!

More Mario race day gems:
A few posts ago, I wrote that Zenyatta always knew when it was race day. She would go to the back of her stall, lie down and sleep for long periods to conserve energy before executing her war dance on the way to post. Here is a little more detail. When Mario would tell her it was time to get up and get ready for the race, she would raise her head, look at him, then lay her head back down. They would go through several iterations of call, look and head back down. After he would say,”Mamacita, it is time to go now”, she would stretch her long limbs and neck for several minutes before getting up and only then begin her walk to the track.
*****
Mario said he always stood along the rail close to the finish line by himself to watch her race. He always was confident that she would win and that she would not be injured unlike his feelings about other horses he cared for.
*****
Zenyatta was never tired after her races. She would take a deep breath, a sip of water and be fully recovered.
*****
Zenyatta loved baths — did not like being sweaty.

Dear John,
Please come to my house and take as many dandelion leaves as you like. My yard is full of them. Thanks!

Hi sweet Z, dogs and horses are so great for our human soul! Bronze Beauty looks so cute. I tried my brother-in-laws home made dandelion wine once yrs. ago, snuck up on me, I could not drive home for a couple hours. I think I layed on their couch!(I only had a small glass). Potent! hee. Stick with just eating the leaves. Your John is simply the best. Take care my lovely Z. Love with 2 kisses on your soft nose, one for baby z

@Sarah Powell–how did you get the pictures? I tried to log in with my FB page and with my Google acct., but when I typed in “Pinto 66”, about a zillion unrelated photos popped up. I’m hopeless.
@The Kennedys–thank so much for the additional “Z” moments. It always struck me that Zenny, after finishing a race, was ready to go around again!
@DMCQ–thanks for the McDude account. It just cracks me up.
@Terry Crow–your jokes are ALWAYS funny.

I used to have a golden retriever named River and a blk lab named Hanah that rode in the back of my car sitting so very politely that folks would drive along side me just to look can’t imagine what the back of their heads looked like. And my boy Trump loves dandelions too

Great pictures of BB sleeping, all the horses in Johns care have SWEET DREAMS. Priceless. Love to Z…and Baby Z.

PLEASE, Dottie and John. Come to my house. I have a backyard full of dandy-lions that will keep your horses happy from now through Christmas! Bronze Beauty is such a darling. She follows in the hoofprints of Life is Sweet.

@Amanda Fuller-Thank you for sharing the link. A full sibling to Zenyatta confirmed. How exciting! And then to hear that Eblouissante may race this Fall. Great news!
@The Kennedys-love reading about Mario & Zenyatta. Thanks for sharing those special Zenyatta moments.
Zennie, Bronze Beauty sure looks so sweet. John sure treats his horses with such love. Isn’t it funny that people treat their lawns to kill dandelions & someone gets the idea to sell them?

@Gloria Jeanne — Thank you so much for posting the link to the Vertigineux photos. The photos of V with her foal are particularly wonderful — can just visualize Zenyatta as a foal running next to her.

@ The Kennedys – More Zenny/Mario gems to brighten the day. Thanks for these delightful little stories. Once again, I’m struck by the similarities between Zenny’s habits and those of Secretariat. Was Zenny a good “doer” eating full rations after racing?

Dear Gloria Jeanne:
Thank you so much for the link on Vertigineux and her April baby and for the link on Nereid, E and Mr. Kronfeld. Hugs, J.B.

Dear DMCQ:
Here is Susan in Tn’s. rescue site. There are photos of her Sweeties. If you click on the horses name, there’s usually a photo and a brief synopsis on the horse. No all of them are here, but some are. Hugs, J.B.

Dear Amanda Fuller:
Thanks for the link re: Z’s full sibling. Ensign, one of our most knowledgeable posters told us this weeks ago. Now you’ve made it official. Wonderful to have a full sibling to Z. Hugs, J.B.

My first response to all these photos is Too Cute!! I love the photo of the big doggies in the convertible and the pictures of Bronze Beauty as she notices and enjoys her dandelions are great, too. It is so special to visit this site and feel all the sharing and be inspired by the devotion to horses. Your John is one very special trainer, Zenyatta, and the horses are so blessed to be in his care.
Loved the article about Mr. Kronfields two fillies. It will be so interesting to see if the foal produced from this mating of Vertigineux to Street Cry will be able to do anything. There is and can only be one Zenyatta. She is our Queen….well, at least in my heart. Thank you!!
