Happy ‘Beginning of the Week’ Everyone,
I hope you had a lovely weekend. I did. As you may know, for ME, everything is pretty quiet and quite relaxing at this time. I’m handling the weather perfectly…and am truly enjoying keeping up with all of YOU on the current racing and industry news!
The weekend’s races proved to be very exciting. The Arlington Million stakes races were very contentious and showcased some terrific European horses. Garrett Gomez rode there on Saturday and told Dottie yesterday that it was actually hailing a couple times during the races that day. Weather at this time of the year changes so rapidly at many locations around the country.
Then at DEL MAR yesterday, my dear MOSS PAL, COZI ROSIE, won the John Mabee G-2 on the turf. She had the perfect trip cutting to the inside and staying on the rail to earn her victory. YEAH, COZI! A great job by all!
She is a homebred for my owners. When you breed a horse who becomes a graded stakes winner, the achievement takes on a special significance. You have literally been involved with this horse from the first moments of planning the mating to every stage thereafter of the horse’s life and development. Black-type races are held in such high regard in our sport! Thus, winning one becomes a very rewarding achievement!
There are technically 2 ways one may acquire horses in our industry. Firstly: you may purchase them via public auctions, private purchases, or claiming races conducted at the race track. The second option is that you may breed your mare to a stallion of your choice and then you own the resulting foal.
I was purchased at public auction, the 2005 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. COZI ROSIE is a homebred…meaning she was bred by our owners. The Moss’ own her mom, FELIDIA…who by the way was a homebred herself, and bred her to PLEASANTLY PERFECT. He just happens to stand here at Lane’s End Farm and resides in our stallion division. It is all very special…and WE are all very proud of ‘our girl’!
The racing at Del Mar is dark today. This means they are closed. Saratoga and Delaware, however, are racing on Mondays during the summer.
If you have a moment, enjoy the fun!
With Love, Hugs to All~ Z
PS…I just heard Goldikova lost this morning. As usual, her effort was terrific….and as always, I wish her the very best!
Maria K.
I was at Del Mar yesterday and watched Cozi Rosie win the John Mabee. She did good. I hate to say it but I was rooting for Harmonious to win. Anyway, I was happy for Rosie. Zennie, I met a lady yesterday at the race track who is also your fan. We spent 10 minutes talking about you and how we miss you. I love you and thanks for the updates.

A late addition: To quote Diana S, “GN, ST, DLTBBB”!! Love you, Zenny and Dottie!

@Barbara Wood: Thank you for the DEE explanation! I missed it, too. Hugs!
@Kimberly Potter: Prayers and sincere good wishes to you and your family.
@Barbara Grimaldi: I’m with you! I love this site, its creators and posters!

Dear Zenyatta, Today was such a relief; it was cooler like a fever breaking. I kept thinking of you and hoping you were having a Z-pleasant kind of day! Thanks for teaching us about ownership. I was puzzled about it and now some of the terms make sense. I am so glad that you were seen by David and that the Mosses were able to give you the best there was to nurture your huge talent and personality. Thanks for updating us on the races this weekend. I love getting the news from You. Please thank Sarah for the pictures. Now I can get my imagination going since I have pictures of some important landmarks.
In response to some earlier postings,
To Trina and Eveline: I understand that microsoft is different from Apple, but I have a friend that tells me if I tell her how I do it, it gives her ideas of how she can do it on Apple. I don’t know if that will work for you. Trina, what a good idea to go green on the printing. Here’s what I do. When I have the document copied, sometimes an icon appears at the end of the copied part. If you click on the tiny error at the right side of the icon, choices appear: Keep source formatting;merge formatting, or text highlight color. Click on merge formatting and the background changes to white, the print to black. Save this change, then print. The alternative is to right click on the copied document and the page of choices appear. Click on merge formatting. Save and print.
To Dawn: I took a mini-vacation this morning as you provided the tourist guide through the highlights of your vacation. :) I really enjoyed your trip!
To Denise: Congratulations! I hope you will post us a picture of your newest family member!
To someone who asked who is No Day Off, she was a race horse who raced at the same race track as Deputy Broad, with a different owner, but with the same tragic ending. RIP No Day Off.
To DJ,Diana S, KC: always appreciate your thoughts, so thanks for checking in.
To judy berube, JAG, Abigail: I am working my way through those links and apprecitating your posting them.
To Terry C: I enjoyed both jokes, but I have to say I loved the Roy Rogers best!
To Trina: Another wonderful birthday poem!
@Brenda S: I remember an earlier post when you asked someone to stop posting in your name and use their own. It may be a solving of the mystery…There are two of you! Help us figure out which is you if you start to use another name.
@ all: Sweet dreams Zenyatta! Sweet dreams everyone.

@Dawn..welcome back and thank you for sharing your adventure with all of us. It sounds like a wonderful trip and so much fun.
@Terry C…love the God Bless, Good Bye..LOL. guess you could update by making the milkman the pool boy.:) for those who don’t remember the fresh bottles of milk left on the front proch days.
@DJ…I always look forward to your prayers. Even when I don’t have time to read every post…I search for your morning or evening prayers. Thank you
@Abigail from M…Thanks for the link. He left a legacy even though his life was cut so short. So sad.
Pacific Classic is coming up in a couple of weeks…anyone want to meet up at Del Mar? Seems several of us have been going over the past few weeks, thought it might be nice to meet. Just a thought.
Good Night to all and sweet dreams.

Thanks to all of you visiting Kentucky and filling
Us in on all those handsome Stallions that you
Have seen.
@Debbie G
How fun to see Curlin. I bet he is a gorgeous boy.
Maybe they only bring certain Stallions out at a time.
Some of them may not get along with each other as they
Can be territorial. To see RHT in his stall would be
Good enough for me.
@Barbara Wood
Let us know how your trip to KY is and how RHT compares
To Tiznow.

@Jackie
Thanks for posting foaling article. Guess it’s “natural
Foaling at Claiborne”. They are small enough to do
It. Makes sense for them to deliver outside. I bet
They are more relaxed as that is what they do
In the wild.

@DJ
Thanks for the lovely prayer.
@Peggy N and Judy B
Go Go Go It’s Tricky. She is sooo good.
Win the Triple Tiara. Guess no one has won
It for awhile.

@Judy B
Love the Uncle Mo video.

@Trina Nagele
His name is Jethro. I have to look on his racing
Papers to see what his racing name was. He was
Purchased as a 5th as a gelding off of a Louisiana track.
The picture you have is about 23 or 24 yo still going
Strong. He has a great work ethic even at this age. Absolutely
Loves his work.
Trina Nagele
@Kimberly in Montana—Thanks! I’m already working on a poem for your special day, Sept. 14, too! BTW, any hints about what you would like to have included would be gratefully received. You can e-mail me at trinambn@yahoo.com.
@Terry Crow—Cute! (Pardon me, boy, is that the Chattanooga choo-choo?)
Trina Nagele
@DMCQ—Thanks for the compliment and for the printing suggestions. I have Microsoft Office 2003—maybe it’s not as up to date as yours? I don’t find the “merge format” option, but I have found that if I paste a white-on-black text into an e-mail, it changes to gray-on-white. I can then copy and paste it into a document, and it stays gray-on-white. I can next click on Format, select Font, and then select black from the font color selections. This results in black-on-white, ready for “green” printing.
Trina Nagele
@Jackie—I’m glad you liked the poem, and thanks for the great link to the article on the foaling process at Claiborne Farms.

@Barbara Grimaldi: Re WWIII on #318. Just when I think it’s all been said by several eloquent people on this site, along you come and clobber it clean out of the park! A 10. Proud to be your ally.

@Brenda S with g-daughter Victoria B: I believe you were the first Brenda S, so I wouldn’t change your moniker. The other Brenda did modify a bit before and it would be nice if she could do that again. Brenda #2 does not have a name tag – yet.

@Kathryn Cogswell: Kudos to you also for the eloquent post on #318. I was lurking, but I read everything. Thank you to the makers of asprine! Have you finally settled somewhere civilized with a mailbox? Your Z Dumpling name tag keeps trying to run out the front door!

@Dawn Conrad: Loved your travelogue! Felt like I was right in your pocket with all the descriptions. Good on ya for being Tinners Way’s angel! One horse at a time.

@Denise in AZ: YAY! Another “lizardlander”! If you are in the Phoenix metro area, can I come and see the little pepper pot? It would be an official Z Dumpling visit, of course! Bringing gifts to the new baby – – – .
@Tessia in AZ: If there are three of us – are we a herd?

Hi Zenny.. WOW What a trip Dawn had. I have always wanted to go to The Meadow to see where the great Secretariat was born. Just have`nt made it. Been to the farm in KY many times. I am dying to see Y O U!!!!Yes, Goldikova did not win but still the best miler. We love her!!!! By the way love you gorgeous mommy!! Lots of Big Hugs and Kisses… Go to “Cozi Rosie” The Mosses deserve her win!! xxoo Alene :-)
Brenda S..
Good morning dear Zenny, The weather forecast for Fort Erie is great today, NO humidity, so I hope it’s going to be good for you. Enjoy your shady area under your tree and get lots of water and blue grass for yourself and the little one.
@ Diana S – Thanks for letting me know there is another Brenda S, I was beginning to wonder if a real bad case of “old timers
had got me and I was posting and not remembering!! Z Tags are ready and waiting for the trip to Saratoga and we hope to see more of them at the track.
@ signofthetimes – When we were at LE they did bring RHT out of his stall and he is big, handsome and friendly. He posed very nicely for pictures and graciously accepted peppermints. My daughter posted some pictures of our visit on Z’s FB and I think there’s one of Himself as well as Curlin and AP Indy.
@ Dawn C – Please share which farms allowed a visit to the broodmares and foals. My trips to KY are not over and a chance to visit the moms and babies would be awesome. Have you treated yourself to the book “Secretariat’s Meadow”? If not, add it to your Christmas wish or birthday list, you will love it. Susan and her husband gave it to me last Christmas. We all send best wishes to your Mom.
Zenny, have a wonderful, relaxing day darling girl.
Sunny Boyd
Good morning Zetty,
I hope this day finds you doing just splendidly & resting aplenty in the cool shade. Have a great day:)
And now another lofty pondering:
“In no instance have…the churches been guardians of the liberties of the people (& horses, I’m putting that in).”

@Dawn Conrad – Thank you for the virtual tour of Lexington Farms. Which farms allow you to see both stallions and broodmares? Thank you. Good Morning, Zenyatta.
Arlene
Good morning Zenny and everyone,
Another rainy day, but it’s predicted to clear up.
@Trina Nagele, Glad you liked “Lorenzo the French Flying Man”. Thanks for the link info. By the way, do you do past birthday poems? My birthday was in June:-)
@ DJ, Thank you for the candle and your morning and evening prayers.
LOL to all, Arlene

Ms Zenyatta, a beautiful, good morning to you and your special, wonderful, baby. Cannot wait to see how the Baby Bump is developing. Have a wonderful day, I so love you…Lisa g

@DJ, thank you for the prayers, you have no idea…Lisa g
Barbara Wood
@Signofthetimes–we’ve postponed our trip to KY, mainly because of the heat. We’re going to Colorado instead in Oct. to see the elk. But I will definitely give a comparison of Tiznow and RHT when we go (not that my opinion is worth much about conformation, etc.)
Good morning, Z! I’ve been thinking about you, and I just realized something. It seems that the goal of trainers with most horses is to get them to “peak” at the right time for the right distance, etc. I just realized that you were always at your “peak”. That is a real tribute to YOU, to OUR JOHN, and to OUR MARIO. The really great ones seem to have a lot of great races in them, and dear Z, if I may say so , your last one was your greatest ever. In my humble opinion, that race cemented you in the minds of the people forever. What courage. Love you always.
DJ
To Trina N: You better be careful..soon every Dumpling here will be sending you their Birth Date!! I wouldn’t blame them either :) Ask Diastu how that would be?!

To all the thank you’s.. a big your welcome!
