Happy ‘Beginning of the Week’ Everyone,
I hope you had a lovely weekend. I did. As you may know, for ME, everything is pretty quiet and quite relaxing at this time. I’m handling the weather perfectly…and am truly enjoying keeping up with all of YOU on the current racing and industry news!
The weekend’s races proved to be very exciting. The Arlington Million stakes races were very contentious and showcased some terrific European horses. Garrett Gomez rode there on Saturday and told Dottie yesterday that it was actually hailing a couple times during the races that day. Weather at this time of the year changes so rapidly at many locations around the country.
Then at DEL MAR yesterday, my dear MOSS PAL, COZI ROSIE, won the John Mabee G-2 on the turf. She had the perfect trip cutting to the inside and staying on the rail to earn her victory. YEAH, COZI! A great job by all!
She is a homebred for my owners. When you breed a horse who becomes a graded stakes winner, the achievement takes on a special significance. You have literally been involved with this horse from the first moments of planning the mating to every stage thereafter of the horse’s life and development. Black-type races are held in such high regard in our sport! Thus, winning one becomes a very rewarding achievement!
There are technically 2 ways one may acquire horses in our industry. Firstly: you may purchase them via public auctions, private purchases, or claiming races conducted at the race track. The second option is that you may breed your mare to a stallion of your choice and then you own the resulting foal.
I was purchased at public auction, the 2005 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. COZI ROSIE is a homebred…meaning she was bred by our owners. The Moss’ own her mom, FELIDIA…who by the way was a homebred herself, and bred her to PLEASANTLY PERFECT. He just happens to stand here at Lane’s End Farm and resides in our stallion division. It is all very special…and WE are all very proud of ‘our girl’!
The racing at Del Mar is dark today. This means they are closed. Saratoga and Delaware, however, are racing on Mondays during the summer.
If you have a moment, enjoy the fun!
With Love, Hugs to All~ Z
PS…I just heard Goldikova lost this morning. As usual, her effort was terrific….and as always, I wish her the very best!
Paula Higgins
Congratulations to Cozi Rosie and Jerry and Ann Moss. Sorry Goldikova didn’t win but she is still an amazing horse. Hopefully we will see her at the Breeders Cup.

Hi Z, Did I see your sister walking around the paddock area mid morning on Saturday at Del Mar???.. She looked alot like you without any blaze…. Made me think about how fortunate I was to live in California and see you run… Miss you!!!

@Signofthe times—Beautiful posts about Barn 55 and your TB gelding (BTW, what’s his name, if I may ask?), and great link to the magnificent Rock Hard Ten.

Good evening Zenyatta,
all tucked in, munching on the last nighty snacks, finishing off with a wedge of apple as your pillow candy, hmm?!
Have a good night and I leave you with:

Way to go Cozi Rosie. Congratulations Great Race. Love, Peggy

To Zenyatta’s Friends who would like to share an Evening Prayer:
…………………………………
O God of truth, O Lord of might!
You order time and change aright.
You send the early morning ray
And light the glow of perfect day.
Extinguish now each unused fire
And banish every ill desire;
And while you keep the body whole,
Shine forth your peace upon our soul.
Almighty Lord hear our cry
Who, with the Spirit and with thee
Doth live and reign eternally.

Hi Zenny: Congratulations to your friend Coz and thanks for telling us about her. She ran a great race. I was disappointed that HRTV didn’t televise the races at the Del Mar. I was hoping to see Coz and Harmonious run. Take care Zenny.
@Dawn Conrad: Welcome back. I just asked about you a few posts back. I hadn’t seen a post from you in awhile. Glad you are back. Sounds like you had a wonderful vacation.
Linda in NJ
Zenny: Is there any chance that us fans can come to see you. I read some time ago that if a visit did take place it wouldn’t happen until after the month of July. Just thought I would ask!

Congratulations to your gal pal,Cozie Rosie. Zen, I hope that the Mosses get to keep your foal. You take care Zen and I’ll be looking forward to the next post.

@Trina Nagele– you are amazing! Poems pop out of you at the drop of a hat like eggs from a chicken. Just TOO CUTE!!
@signofthetimes–thanks for the links about RHT. I’m wondering how he will compare to Tiznow when I meet him. Yes, I get the Stallion Register, and it cracks me up that our Zenny is the only female in it (pictured beside Blame in the BCC!)
By the way, I just got this week’s copy of Bloodhorse magazine. On the front is a picture of Tizway, owned by fellow Wacoan, Bill Clifton.
@DJ–beautiful prayer and so timely for this troubled world.
@Dawn–all the Dumplings will rest easier, knowing that you’re safely home.
And last but definitely not least, Queen Z– we love you more and more as we hear more stories from Mario and those who know you best.

I just loved the Z-bits in the previous diary post about Zenyatta & the opossum. Too funny. Thanks again.
Yeah, I don’t think the Mosses are just in it for the moolah, for one thing dealing with artists takes nerves & intuition & sensitivity, progressive thinking. They’re not like aby else, they’re crazy. Artists, not the Mosses. And that kinda works for horses, trusting people & ideas who & which see or open up possibilities.

love rock hard ten!!! was fortunate enough to meet him last november during breeders cup. he is absolutely gorgeous!!!!

Dear Z,
Goodnight and Sweet Baby Dreams. Love you so much, Judy and Russ

@Dawn Conrad – You said that you got to visit two farms that let you see broodmares and foals. Which farms were they? I’ve visited three this summer and they would only let us see stallions. I would love to see the girls and the babies too!
@Judy Berube – Thanks for sharing the slideshow. Hugs, Debbie
@Denise in AZ – Congratulations on your new baby. She sounds adorable. I’m so glad her and her mom are doing well.
@signofthetimes – Thanks for the Rock Hard Ten videos. Isn’t he something? I visited Lane’s End a couple of weeks ago, and I was so excited about getting to meet Curlin. I really did love meeting Curlin, but Rock Hard was the one that made the biggest impression on me. He is so big and imposing, but he was also friendly. They never let him out of his stall, but he let me reach in and stroke his nose. He is so gorgeous! It was all they could do to get me out of his barn!

@Dawn Conrad – I will be visiting Lexington some time this year and would like to know the names of the farms that let you see both the broodmares and stallions. Thanks.

Thank you so much, Zenny, for the explanation of “home-bred” and
congratulations to Cozi Rosie!! Hope it has been as nice in Kentucky today as it has been in NC! Much lower humidity and lower temperatures. Take care and enjoy your time in the pasture with TT!!
@Denise in AZ: Congratulations to you and your mare! All the best for the little sorrel filly!! How exciting!
@Dawn Conrad: Welcome back!! So glad that you had such a wonderful vacation with your mother! What a gift you have for written expression — I felt as if I were on the trip with you!! I must confess that I had moist eyes several times as I read your descriptions — especially of my Hero, Secretariat and the Meadow in Virginia. Thank you! You would be amazing as a diplomatic envoy, too!! We have certainly missed you, but are happy that you had a memorable time with your mother! You have a way with words, for sure! All the best! Hugs!

Good Evening Queen “Z” The weekend was packed with great races. Congrats to Cozi Rosie. What a great ride! Also contrats to all the winners and runner ups in all the races. So glad everyone made it home safely!
Dawn C: What an amazing adventure you had with your mom. Thank you for sharing. As I read your post I literally got chills and tears. It must have been quite an experience to have seen the birth place of such greatness like “Big Red” and to see such history. I am planning a trip to Saratoga next summer and I can’t wait! I understand thru many articles I have read and things I have heard there is a charm to this old racetrack and such history with the hall of fame across the street. I also understand Old Friends has a farm not too farm away which I plan to visit. Sharing trips with loved ones always makes the experiences so much more special.
Trina Nagele, thanks for the kind words. So sweet.
I was sorry to hear Goldi lost. Too Bad. She is a great mare. Sure hope they consider bringing her to the Breeders Cup.
Z, the weather I hear is very warm. Please take good care of yourself. I know you are in a good place and well taken care of.
Hugs to all
Jackie
