Happy ‘Beginning of the Week’ Everyone,
I hope you had a lovely weekend. I did. As you may know, for ME, everything is pretty quiet and quite relaxing at this time. I’m handling the weather perfectly…and am truly enjoying keeping up with all of YOU on the current racing and industry news!
The weekend’s races proved to be very exciting. The Arlington Million stakes races were very contentious and showcased some terrific European horses. Garrett Gomez rode there on Saturday and told Dottie yesterday that it was actually hailing a couple times during the races that day. Weather at this time of the year changes so rapidly at many locations around the country.
Then at DEL MAR yesterday, my dear MOSS PAL, COZI ROSIE, won the John Mabee G-2 on the turf. She had the perfect trip cutting to the inside and staying on the rail to earn her victory. YEAH, COZI! A great job by all!
She is a homebred for my owners. When you breed a horse who becomes a graded stakes winner, the achievement takes on a special significance. You have literally been involved with this horse from the first moments of planning the mating to every stage thereafter of the horse’s life and development. Black-type races are held in such high regard in our sport! Thus, winning one becomes a very rewarding achievement!
There are technically 2 ways one may acquire horses in our industry. Firstly: you may purchase them via public auctions, private purchases, or claiming races conducted at the race track. The second option is that you may breed your mare to a stallion of your choice and then you own the resulting foal.
I was purchased at public auction, the 2005 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. COZI ROSIE is a homebred…meaning she was bred by our owners. The Moss’ own her mom, FELIDIA…who by the way was a homebred herself, and bred her to PLEASANTLY PERFECT. He just happens to stand here at Lane’s End Farm and resides in our stallion division. It is all very special…and WE are all very proud of ‘our girl’!
The racing at Del Mar is dark today. This means they are closed. Saratoga and Delaware, however, are racing on Mondays during the summer.
If you have a moment, enjoy the fun!
With Love, Hugs to All~ Z
PS…I just heard Goldikova lost this morning. As usual, her effort was terrific….and as always, I wish her the very best!

@ DAWN CONRAD: I just LOVED the description of your trip & how GREAT that you met up with Shari & Brenda. BRENDA has been so good to me…She put a mint on Secretariat’s grave for me during her visit & sent me the photos. THEN she mailed me the bit on Zenny last televised that I couldn’t see here in Montreal! And then to tell me that you thought of me when you visited Roberto’s grave, Dawn. THAT’S JUST SO AMAZING OF YOU!!! I, too, will be downloading your post because when I take my own trip to Kentucky, I’m copying you!!!! (If that’s ok, that is!) But in my case I will be hammering down the walls @ Overbrook Farm to visit Terlingua’s grave.
@ Shari: I will post out your Secretariat book this week. Wanted to be sure you were at home & then got busy myself…
@ Brenda S : Ditto re: your little surprise from me!
@ the Kennedys: Would you give me permission when I do something on THE VAULT on Mario & Zenny to quote a few of the stories you told last post? Naturally, I would credit YOU!
LOVE TO ALL ON THIS MY FAVOURITE PLACE TO BE IN VIRTUAL REALITY!!!!

@ DAWN CONRAD, I WONDERED WHERE YOU WERE. Z FANS GET USED TO SEEING EACHOTHERS NAMES, SO WHEN I DID NOT SEE YOUR NAME ON THE POSTS I WAS CONCERNED. THE TRIP WITH YOUR DEAR MOTHER SOUNDED WONDERFUL. I WISH MY MOM COULD HAVE TRAVELED. I MISS ALL MY FAMILY, WILL SPEND ENTERNITY WITH THEM. LOVE TO ALL, SHERRY D. WV

@Christine Coleman-I remember Carolina West from the days when I could stay awake after 9. Great place. Used to stop in on my way to and from LAX.

One last post for today. There’s a new group on FB that Ann Maree told me about dedicated to International horse racing & breeding. VERY interesting gang & many Brits on there. I wondered if some of you might be interested:

Dottie and Zenny,
I saw Colonel Mustard (son of Rock Hard Ten) finally break his Maiden yesterday on the turf at Santa Rosa. What a magnificent boy he is! I think he was once trained by John and he has matured greatly. Got a good start this time. He has been in my Equibase fantasy stable since last year. Great post by the way. Love and kisses.

Congrats to Cozi for her win. I must admit I was so confused with Mike, John, and John Sadler all in the same race but thanks Zenny for the information about Cozi being a homebred for the Mosses I did not know that.
@Dawn Conrad, what a wonderful trip of a lifetime thank you so much for sharing all your memorable moments. I am sure you mother was thrilled, she is one lucky lady
Hugs to all

Congratulations to the Mosses on Cozi Rosie’s win! So your foal will be home bred by the Mosses, is that right! How exciting for all involved! I truly learn something here everyday from you sweet girl!

So happy to hear from you Z. Congrats to Cozie Rosie. Home-bred would be special! Soooo, they chose a great stallion for you and your colt or filly will be a home bred!! But you Zenyatta were what they were looking for even with some skin thing going on when other buyers turned there interest away. A perfect story; beauty (racing conformation) in the right eyes, you going to the right family owners and trainer, racing to glory with the love of family & fan family!! I always wish the absolute best for all you are connected with. love with 2 kisses on your soft nose

Hi Z, I am glad you had a good weekend. I do have a question for you and Dottie. Why didn’t John have his lucky Z cap on yesterday? I saw him on TV yesterday and no Z cap. thats a NO NO I just got Z shoes they are TOO CUTE. I wish I could find a Zenyatta license plate tag holder for my car. Anyone seen one?
I love you and send you XXXX’s on your soft fuzzy nose. Sue

Welcome back Dawn! Loved reading about the trip with your mom.
One of my co-workers was on Cape Cod last week and a woman walked past him wearing a Zenyatta Shirt. I believe he told me she was in Chatham. He could not stop laughing telling me. Dear Zenyatta, you are loved!!!
Celeste
Thank you for sharing the beautiful photo of Saratoga with us! It looks so lovely there – sigh. What a weekend of racing. The Mabee made me have such mixed emotions because I wanted both Cozi Rosie and Harmonious to win – lol! I was glad for the wonderful Mosses to get the win with their homebred and Harmonious did very well considering the traffic problems, if I remember correctly. She was just too far back.
@ Dawn – what a wonderful trip you described! Thank you for sharing it all with us and your words flowed so well it felt like we were right along with you. I’m so glad you happened to notice Tinner’s Way’s labored breathing so you could get their attention to him. I’ll bet your mother thoroughly enjoyed being able to travel with you and visit those places as well – what a special way to spend bonding time.
@Abigail – the first of your links to facebook did not allow me to go there, but I did visit the group site and send a request to join.
Thank you once again, sweet Zenyatta and wonderful Dottie for giving us this beautiful site. Wonderful!
zenyattaloveramy!
You know one of the (many) nice things about this website is that is that people who write comments are nice:) and hardly ever cuss or fight:) thank you nice zenyatta.com commenters!! AND ZENYATTA THANK YOU FOR YOUR GREAT BLOGS!!!! FROM YOUR BIGGEST FAN AMY.

It’s fun to go to Saratoga, we go every year. The New Yorkers just love their horses . . . it’s fun to see them with their distinctive (!!) accents talking to and holding their little kids up to see the horses in the paddocks . . . often the little ones like the ponies the best !

Happy Monday Zenny!! Thanks for the wonderful info and congratulations to Cozi Rosie. Wished better for Harmonious and Goldikova but there’s always next time.
@Dawn Conrad–welcome back!! Thanks for in-depth update. I’ll have to get you to plan out a trip for me. :) You seem to have covered quite a lot of ground.
@Denise in AZ–Congratulations on your new arrival. How exciting for you!!!
@The Kennedys–you are such a wealth of information, thanks.
@Judy Berube, Abigail & others–thanks for the links.
Zenny, just have to tell you and I know some Z’sters will get a kick out of this too. My 10yr old daughter has been taking riding lessons at Equestrian Inc. This is the horse rescue where we’ve been volunteering and sponsoring a retired racehorse, Which Way Do I Go, now known as William. She has gotten so involved with horses now, the other day she asked if we could go to the horsetrack. I almost passed out. It took all kinds of bribery to try to get her to go before this. We live in Tampa, Fl and unfortunately, I had to tell her that racing wasn’t until December. So here’s hoping she’ll still want to go then.
I always made her watch you race, Zenny and told her she was watching history in the making. :)
Love you Zenny and waiting patiently for March to welcome your little one. Enjoy your horse’s life! :)
Lotsa love to all

I JUST POSTED TO THE PREVIOUS DIARY…it is an answer to WWIII on this site, and I hope you go back one diary to read my thoughts and tell me if you agree or disagree. Thank you.

Hello again Zenny and all. Having a very wet day here in New England today.
@ Dawn Conrad: Welcome back. Sounds like you had a wonderful, blessed trip. What an inspirational experience with Tinner’s Way ! Isn’t it such a joy to recognize the Lord’s hand in ours as He works through us in this world!!! It is my belief He made me aware of Zenyatta and many things surrounding my involvement in her story through Zenyatta website. She and her life and Team and fans are such a joy. Thank you for sharing your exciting trip.
@ DJ, To God be the Glory! Amen
@ DJ, Yes, I have a Dumpling Tag.
TOO CUTE ! Thank you for asking.
LOL, Arlene

Zenyatta, the weather has been beautiful where I am as well except for a big storm yeaterday (Sunday). I am glad that you’re enjoying it. It sounds like your buddies did pretty well in their races this past weekend. I’m sorry to hear about Goldikova’s loss. I wish her better luck in the future. I am happy to hear that one of the horses bred by Jerry and Ann Moss resides with you at Lane’s End Farm.

Thats cool Zenny! Congrats Rozi! Love you Zenyatta!!! :D <3
