Congratulations to all of the 2011 inductees:

Shelby “Pike” Barnes, a Jockey who starred in the 1880’s
Duke of Magenta, Open Mind, Safely Kept, and Sky Beauty, Horses
Sarah was so sweet and took some other photos for us to share of the Museum. I hope you enjoy them.
I wanted to show you ROBERT FRANKEL’S plaque on the wall…as Dottie actually wrote the script for it for Bobby.
Have a wonderful weekend! Enjoy all of the fabulous racing taking place around the country during the next few days and HAVE FUN!
Perhaps we’ll see some future Hall of Famers in action and running this weekend! HOOVES CROSSED!
With Love,
Hugs to All~ (Congratulations to HOF Class of 2011)

Oh Zenyatta! Do you want to know my favorite song? Zenyatta. I’m listening to it now. :) And Z, I am really sad because we are moving soon, and I just have to say, You help me get through it. I think of you every day. I subscribe to a magazine, and they had a poster of YOU and MIKE! That is one thing I’m keeping. Zenyatta, and Dottie, you are both just plain…….amazing. In ALL ways. YOU TWO are all TOO CUTE!!
(Zenyatta Zenyatta, hail to the queen, shes the greatest racehorse we’ve ever seen!:) )

@judy berube: Thank you so much for the link to that incredibly exciting Arlington Million. What a race for the ages! It took the officiials an interminably long time to sort-out the photo, and I was positive that The Bart had won, at best, or dead-heated, at worst.

@ Cynthia H. I am not sure if it was Eblouissante whom I saw schooling. I will try to post the pictures I took onto my facebook page. You can friend me and take a look. Maybe you would know the name. Lisa Buzzard

@Judy Berube-I’ve posted this before, but for those who missed it. Shoe was a great guy with a wonderful sense of humor. Horse racing used to be huge here in SoCal, and every Saturday (There was no Sunday racing then) the local CBS station showed the race of the week from whatever track was running at the time. Gil Stratton, a local TV sports personality, was the host. he was best known as a former PCL umpire and his opening statement was always “Time to call ’em as we see ’em.” THe winning jockey was interviewed in the winner’s circle after the race. Since Shoemaker won the big one so often, it became kind of like his show. ONe Saturday STratton was again preparing to interview Shoe when a man outside the winner’s circle started yelling “That race was fixed. I’ve got the right here in my back pocket.” It was live TV and the words being spoken, or yelled, were quite audible. Security hustled the guy away. Stratton then proceeded with the interview, asking Shoemaker what he thought of the race. Shoe then said “Never mind about that. I wanted to see what that guy had in his back pocket.” Very funny and I’ve never forgotten it even though it was more than 50 years ago. Crowds of at least 40,000 were common on Saturdays in those days, that’s why TV was doing the race.
Terry Crow
that should have been proof right here in my back pocket

@Lisa Buzzard; Thanks, Lisa. I don’t really know all of his horses by sight, but recently got a number of photos of some, so perhaps I can compare yours with what I have for a possible identification.
JAG from California :-)
@ Cynthia H.
Girl friend! The Bart gave it his all that day… John Henry with “his” tenacity wasn’t about to lose that race :-) My to-do-list is to visit the famous statue at the Arlington Track. I’ll probably weep at John’s feet……

Dear Terry Crow:
Thank you for sharing that very funny story. That guy sounds like a character from “Let It Ride”. Shoe must have been a very nice person. Hugs, J.B.
judy berube
Dear Cynthia H.:
With the naked eye, it really did appear that The Bart won. Both he and John H. ran a terrific race. Really was a head bob. Could have gone either way. Real Thriller. Hugs, J.B.

Dear Signofthetimes:
I posted HOF eligibility on this Diary too. Did you see my post to you on Diary 317 regarding Liberian Freighter? Hugs, J.B.

Dottie,
A Kentuckian by birth, I have had a life long love of horses & racing. This love goes all the way back to Man o’ War. In college at UK, Dad would visit “Big Red” & his groom Will. Memories of these visits were my bedtime stories.
I followed Citation, Secretariat, Ruffian & so many great jockeys Eddie Arcaro, Bill Shoemaker, Gary Bailey, & Mike Smith.
Zenyatta brought me thrills & breath-taking finishes & tears at her perfection.
Dottie, this site is a text book in horse husbandry, racing, history, &, the Team, and, of course, Z.
Thank you so much for all you share-for all your hard work. It is appreciated.
Every day I look forward to today’s surprise “The Daily Post”.
A great weekend to all.
Cynthia H.
@Terry Crow: I well remember that Gil Stratton show—never missed it! That sounds like Shoe, alright. He had a wonderful, deadpan sense of humor.
Barn 55 will be active this weekend at Del Mar, Dumplings! On Saturday, John Shirreffs will send out DEATH STAR in race 3 (Mike). Also of note is that in race 7, JAYCITO will be making his come-back race, also piloted by Mike. Bob Baffert trains. Love this horse! Hope he can now hold the turns.
On Sunday, things will be humming.
race 2, MAESTRO (Talamo);
race 5 Tiz Gianni (Mike) and Guest Star (Talamo);
race 9 (the John C. Mabee Stakes), HARMONIOUS (Rosario).
Here’s hoping for safe and successful trips for all (and maybe a dead-heat in the 5th!).

Forgot to mention, it is disappointing not to see Mr. Commons in the La Jolla on Saturday, but thank goodness for trainers with the horsemanship of John SHirreffs, who noticed that his foot was sore. Hope it heals soon, Mr. Commons! We love you!

Uh-oh. I just noticed that the Moss’ lovely Cozi Rosie is also going in the John C. Mabee. John Sadler trainer/G. Gomez. I hate when this happens!

Good evening Queen Z, congratulations to all the Hall of Fame inductees. Sarah thank you for the pictures. Saratoga looks unbelievable. Planning a trip next summer to celebrate my son finally competing law school and taking the bar. Also if I am lucky I will welcome a new member to my family. Love his fiancee! I must be unusual for a future mother in law. LOL. Big day of racing tomorrow. Good luck to all.
Kari Happy Birthday. I can’t believe how many August birthdays. Mines next week, but would rather forget it. Happy birthday to all you Leos and Z fans.
Have a wonderful evening.
Hugs and kisses

I am overwhelmed and speechless. Husband surprised me with a overnight trip to Gatlinburg yesterday. I last read comments #316, as that had me tied up without my computer. I am going to need a minute to stop crying.
Brenda S..
Dear Kari, I hope you enjoyed your very special day in Gatlinburg and that you have many, many happy returns. Hugs and nuzzles.

Congratulations to the class of 2011 HOF!! High Hoof to all in the HOF ! Zenny, you are in the Hall of Our Hearts, and will be in the Hall of Fame as well in a few years.
Arlene, Chris H, and Karen G…speaking of books, since I don’t have a dollar store nearby, I went to Amazon and found Dear Smarty and Smarty Jones, Forever a Champion. Looking forward to reading them! Karen, your grandson sounds like such a sweetheart! I will think of him when I read Forever a Champion.
Cynthia H…I will be glad to attempt to be the Chris Crocker of our gift shop, that is unless Chris herself decides to apply for the position :)
Sharon Call…really enjoyed the link to Kenny Rogers amazing estate. We can dream, can’t we?
Shari V…I hope you are preparing a desk for me in your classroom. And how cool that your birthday is is on the day of Mo’s race! Go Mo Go!
Kari B…Hoof Ray for You!! Happy Birthday friend to all of us on this site! Your love for Zenyatta and for life is so contagious, we can’t help but be touched by the spirit expressed in your words and your wonderful videos :)
Terry Crow…I finally broke down and bought Let it Ride. The wait on Netflix was interminable and the comments that you, Judy B, and others make about it made it a must see for me. It should arrive next week. Re: todays joke..LOL!
DJ…I hope you are felling better and that your three day quiet retreat is deeply fulfilling for you.
All…have a wonderful weekend and safe trips for all!
Cynthia H.
@Kari B.: Howdy, partner! I thought maybe hubby lassoed you into a trip, or something of that nature. It sounds like you are having a dynamite birthday! Lots going on here—your tribute cup overfloweth! Since you have been gone, we have formed a syndicate (DEE), adopted a stable motto (“Don’t Dump on Us”), are searching for suitable farm property, made plans for a gift shop (managment already hired), have promises of lush home-made preserves to offer, have a fabulous gardener for the grounds (can double as poet/speechwriter), have principal speechwiriter to pen acceptances at prestigious awards (Eclipse, etc.), have decided on trainer (guess who) and jockey (ditto), and are about to hold an exciting wrestling match to settle the co-ordination of the official silks. JAG will act as referee (don’t think she is aware of this yet). WELCOME BACK!
Sally (B)
How is my favorite sweet Z!! I pray always that you are doing great; I can not wait to know what your baby z is; colt or filly. Dottie is so inspirational and someone very special.
Your team is lucky to have you and you are lucky to have them. That’s love!!
love with 2 kisses on your soft nose, one for baby z Have a fun but relaxing week-end.

@JAG from California – This is why I believe I have so much horse in me. – I was born in 1954, the “Year of the Horse”, 马年, also the same year “Bold Ruler” was born, and the same year “Federico Tesio” died. About 70% of all Thoroughbreds running today have blood running through their veins from horses that Tesio bred. “Bold Ruler” and “Federico Tesio” were two of the greatest influences on the modern Thoroughbreds of 20th century and today. “Zenyatta” has “Ribot” on both sides. “Bold Ruler” was the leading sire for 7 straight years. My Mother was born in 1923, the year “ZEV” won the Kentucky Derby. “Zev” also won one of most significant match races in thoroughbred racing history. “Zev” beat Epsom Derby winner “Papyrus” and that marked the first time a Kentucky Derby winner defeated an English Derby winner. Also my Mom was born in the same month and on the same day as Ruffian (Apr. 17th). Seventeen is a significant number in the Bible. 17 is a prime number and seventh in the list of the prime numbers. Seventeen is the combination or sum of two perfect numbers—seven and ten—seven being the number of spiritual perfection, and ten of ordinal perfection. SEVEN is the most common number found in the Bible, over 500 times. Listing all the occurrences would take several pages. Just being here at St. Z’s site and “Zev” evokes those two numbers, but also Z was born on the 1st and GOD is #1 in my mind, and I like to think that HIS number would be 7 if he has a number. The meaning of my name “Moulton” is “from the mule farm” and the byname Mūla = ‘mule’ + tūn = ‘enclosure’, basically means “a pen where Mules are kept or Mule Pen”. I’ve traced my Sire line back to the 12th century to Moulton Village, Suffolk England, and to Moulton Paddocks in Newmarket. I find all these things a strange coincidence in my mind but I believe all things happen for a reason and I have a lot of strong reasons for my love of horses.

First things first-I must again say- Thank you Zenyatta for bringing us all together. @Dottie- so very glad to read in #317 that you had a great birthday.See what beautiful light Zenyatta has spread…it is infectious…and YOU have added your own precious Leo rays of sunshine making it even brighter. Thank you for all the time, energy and heart you give for us.
@All-I could not help but miss DJ’s morning and now evening prayer. Does anyone have a update for how she is today?
@TRINA NIGELE- Thank you…I am desperate to find the words to tell you how very deeply (to the core) Both of your poems touched my heart. The fact that some one as talented as you would take the time to write something so thoughtful ….I WILL print them off and hang over my computer desk and carry in my wallet….that way no matter what kind of day I am having …all I’ll ever have to do is read to be reminded of all the wonderful friends we all are here and that sometimes a gesture, be it a kind word,a held door, a video or a poem…can mean the world. Thank you!
After arriving back in Knox., I first checked to make sure all is well with Our Queen and then started where I last read…before I got to all the HB’s I was emotional over Karen Gogue’s beautiful descriptive words to Dottie…
I want to thank Everyone….for such a outpouring of love. I fear for those not interested that I will (I must) respond more..I will wait until later tonight out of respect for those not interested. You have blessed me and my cup runneth over with JOY.
Kari Bussell
*above should read I was -already- emotional-
