Good Morning,
Here is the activity from last evening in Saratoga. The view above is from the Art Gallery Walk…which goes around to The Buyers’ Lounge. Many potential bidders have assigned seats located right around the sales ring. You may use these seats during the auction or bid from wherever you would like.
The sales area is open to everyone. Any fan may attend a sale and observe what is happening from various areas in the sales pavilion. It is really quite a fascinating process to watch. There are so many facets to our industry that all work together to make it such an interesting and challenging business.
This Saratoga Yearling Sale is conducted in the evening…so people ‘dress’ for the occasion. At this point in a sale, your ‘homework’ is basically completed as far as deciding on the horses you’d like to bid upon during the session. You have reviewed the pedigrees to see how the individuals would fit into your racing and breeding programs. The physical examinations of the horses have been completed by the prospective buyers and their teams.
Another important step is to have your veterinarian examine your prospective purchases IN DEPTH to be sure the physical condition of each yearling you are interested in meets your satisfaction. He or she will check and double-check the horse’s throat (for breathing purposes), basic conformation, and x-rays.
If the yearling passes all of the requirements you may have for purchase, you then need to ‘mentally appraise’ the horse. In other words, how much do you feel this horse is really worth in today’s market….and most importantly…how much are YOU willing to spend to own this colt or filly? This step is truly very important. You want to be sure you have really decided in your own mind how much this horse is worth TO YOU!
Then…let the BIDDING BEGIN!
Last night’s auction was very active. People really want to purchase and own good horses. They look to the future and the hope of running in BIG RACES! That is the driving force behind our industry. Obviously, a high purchase price does NOT guarantee success…but it must be considered. After all, LOOK AT ME! That is what helps to make this sport so much FUN!
At this time, I’d like to send a HIGH HOOF to my dear BERNIE. His yearlings sold for very substantial prices. Hip #1 was an “OUT”….which means she was withdrawn from the sale before it started. This may happen for a number of reasons.
Then the action really began. BERNIE had a colt sell for $750,000…and fillies sell for $950,000 and $600,000…to name a few.
The ‘sales topper’…which means the highest price horse sold during the entire session….was a Medaglia d’ Oro colt who is a half brother to the Kentucky Derby winner, SUPER SAVER. This yearling is named Superfection! His winning bid…….$1,200,000. WOW!
The Saratoga Yearling Sale continues this evening! HOOVES CROSSED that everything goes well for all of the horses and the participants.
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Hi Zenyatta. What a great diary about the sale at Saratoga. I have been getting Bloodhorse alerts all day long with the top sales. Wow, yea for Bernardini. I recall that because of a skin condition, you sold for $60,000 – you have been the gift of a lifetime to all of us. Love you big girl. Just know that your baby will not go to the sales ring – am sure Ann and Jerry will never let your baby go and what a gorgeous baby he/she will be and a great champion. Please stay cool, still triple digits here in Texas and boy, do we need rain. Eat well for two and have fun with your BBFs. Love you, Angel in Disguise.
Cynthia H.
Ok! I am ready to go $500,000 absolute minimum on #160.
Especially Horses
Wow, what happened with the half sister to Plum Pretty? $95,000 (and hard pressed to get that price). I bet she was bought back for that price. Wish I could see a confirmation pic up close…it has to be her confirmation.

Margaret The Green Monkey did race but he did not win. He had 3 starts M 0 1 $10,440. If you want more info on him go to bloodhorse.com stallion register and put his name in. He is at stud in Florida. His dam had 5 foals 4 raced and 0 won.
Especially Horses
Did I really type confirmation for conformation? And twice at that….good thing the sale is over, now I can think again.
Cynthia H.
@Kari Bussell: HURRAY! Did I get a bargain or what? He’s little, like his sire, but I love him. I have enough cash left to treat you and all of the Dumpling gang to a feast at KFC! Everyone welcome!
Kari Bussell
@Cynthia H- great deal (an together compromise) for $220.000….it will be interesting to see what the future holds…12th!!

For those who would like to share an Evening Prayer/Hymn:
…………………………………
The setting sun now dies away,
And darkness comes at close of day;
Your brightest beams, dear Lord, impart,
And let them shine within our heart.
We praise your name with you this night:
Please watch and guide us till the light;
Joining the music of the blest,
O Lord, we sing ourselves to rest.
To God, Creator, Eternity, adore
Be praise and glory evermore.

@Deborah Richman – Thank you :-)

Another exciting evening at the sale and Bernie’s babies sure did well. I’m positive the fact that he was chosen to be your baby’s sire has something to do with it. I was a bit disappointed that the Rock Hard Ten foals didn’t bring more. After the last two evenings plain old TV is going to be awful dull – it was so nice dreaming that I could go to sale and actually bid.
Kari Bussell
@Quarterhossgal- I am a huge fan of hers!
@Terry Crow both of today’s jokes had me laughing…can’t wait to tell my husband!
@DJ- As always, your last two pray choices amazed me with how perfect for what I needed they were….chills sometimes…
@Sunny Boyd -Thank you for your prayer.It was a lovely, thoughtful and olive branch gesture.I sincerely hope you had a great day today!

If I had horses (a dream to one day fulfil) that is how I would converse with them – it is said that a horse IS tonic for ones soul… I KNOW you all feel as I, Zenny IS that tonic for our souls….and you would have written just as I…and she would have listened to you just as well as I…thank you so much, for it is Zenny we all dream of in Zennyland of our dreams…

Good evening Zenyatta,
it’s gotten a lot cooler here, hope we’re over the really hot weather for this year. Some of that coolness surely will find you & your buddies for a much easier rest of the week.
@ Debbie G
you’re welcome. When you consider medical intervention the age, breed & general constitution of the dog should to be considered. From what you wrote about Winston it appears that the good boy has given his all. The feeling you don’t want is that two yrs from now when you have recovered from your mourning and you look back with an objective eye and see that you made your best buddy go through stuff just so you didn’t have to face loss. It is very difficult, but regrettably part of the deal. Winston leaving is making room for another. It’s the way it’s meant to be.
Well, dear Girl, I bid you good night

Thank you so much, as always, you know what is needed – the Fasig-Tipton sales were the much needed touch today, very enjoyable. Sincerly hope your mother-in-law is doing well, sending her our Angel Kisses from the heart…
Kari Bussell
@Karen Gogue- I dreamed she would come east …and she did…I dreamed she would come out of retirement and return in 2010. I got to see her two times, as you know I dreamed I could meet Ann Holbrook & Jerry Moss…Mario, Steve ..Frank..my hero, Mr. John Shirreffs and his wife Dottie Ingordo Shirreffs and I did (I couldn’t speak to the two so them, but I did!)..I dreamed I could touch her… by fluke and Frank Leal’s kindness I did….I believe in dreams…and I believe somehow, someday…we will all see her again!…but most of all I believe in HER!
Thank you for your beautiful post, kindness & Everything..you have no idea!..JOY!!!

Oh goofus!! I do know how to spell! Really? Yes, SINCERELY!
