Good Morning,
I hope all of you had a wonderful weekend! My Team had a great deal of excitement in the Clement Hirsch-G1 again this year. ZAZU almost did it!
As you may know, this is a race I won 3 times in a row during my racing career. ZAZU ran in The Hirsch G-1 last Saturday at Del Mar…and closed strongly to just miss by a head. She cut to the rail at the top of the lane…and made a real race of it during the stretch run. ULTRA BLEND won closing on the outside.
I’d like to congratulate her connections. This G1 win was especially emotional for jockey, Tyler Baze. He has recently recovered from a very difficult injury…and this meant a great deal to him! Tyler, it is so great to see you back in action, healthy, and riding in top form again!
It was tremendous to see the other Grade 1 stakes races around the country. TIZWAY did a great job earning his victory in The Whitney and SEAN AVERY earned his win in a tight Vanderbilt finish! Other stakes racing over the weekend also provided lots of thrilling finishes. I hope your handicapping was very astute and proved to be quite LUCKY!
David is presently at Saratoga. The yearling sales action is now in full swing. Last month, Fasig Tipton started it all with their Kentucky July Sale. This evening, their Saratoga Yearling Sale is on center stage.
Lane’s End does have a consignment there. In the above photo, this yearling they are offering is being inspected for purchase by a veterinarian. That is just one of the stages involved when purchasing a yearling at auction. The ‘sales’ involve a great deal of homework and hard work…yet it is extremely energizing to anticipate the ‘future’.
Good luck to all involved with these horses and the sale.
If you’d like, you may watch the live feed of this auction on-line. It is intriguing to see how all of the action takes place in the sales ring.
Go to Fasig-Tipton.com….click on Fasig-Tipton TV….then go to LIVE AUCTION. This will give you the up-to-the-minute streaming. The Saratoga Yearling Sale begins tonight at 7 Eastern Time with Hip # 1…a Bernardini filly . Now….isn’t this TOO CUTE!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

PS…A HIGH HOOF to MY BERNIE. His foals had a very successful weekend of racing on both coasts!

Hi – for Judy – He did seem ok – but it was something they should be aware of and be super careful. It could have been a bad slip.
And I have kind of a different first name. It’s D e l r e n e. Thought you’d want the correct spelling. I get lots of combinations.
Have a great night. I enjoy your posts and the links you provide us on this website. Everyone is very supportive and kind.
Take care
Doreen
@Barbara Grimaldi or Karen Gogue – can either one of you send me the info for the website? I left my info near the end of Diary #313. Thanks in advance. I’m looking forward to seeing it.
@Barbara Grimaldi – in regards to your question about sending a mare to the same stallion, yes this does happen, especially if one of the offspring is very talented and successful. Although it’s hard to catch lightning twice in a bottle. I found some full siblings, some are well-known, some are not, some siblings go back to the early 1700s and some are from Europe. The list includes: Personal Ensign and Personal Flag; Desert Vixen and Valid Appeal; Barbaro, Nicanor, Lentenor, and Margano (and a soon to be full sibling); Sail Away Home and Henrythenavigator; Rutherienne and Ruthenia; Super Saver and Hedge Fund; Supercharger, She’s A Winner, Accelerator, Daydreaming, and Girolamo; Go Go Shoot, Sky at Sunrise, Songofthesailor and an unnamed 2-year old colt; Get Lucky, Rhythm and Not For Love; War Admiral and Harry of Hereford; Spendthrift, Fellowcraft and Discovery; Orvieto and Laveno; Mujannad and Muthabara; Plantex and New Planet; Popular and Midday; El Greco and Modun; Continuum, Passage of Time and Father Time; Matchem and Changeling; Flying Childers and Bartlett’s Childers; Bald Galloway and Points; Dansili and Cacique; and the stallion Danehill and the broodmare Hisili were mated 5 times producing four Group or Grade I winners (now THAT is catching lightning twice in a bottle!!!). It was fun looking them up – I love horse pedigrees.
@Abigail – I agree with you, watching the auction IS totally addictive. I can wait to watch it tonight.
Dottie – thank you for letting us know how we can watch the yearling sale online. It’s almost as good as being there!!!

It was March 13, 2010- The first race of the season for both Zenyatta and her rival Rachel Alexandra- Mr. John Shirreff’s sent his great Mare Zardana to New Orleans to run in the Lady’s Secret…. while Zenyatta went to Santa Anita to run in the Santa Margarita.
To say I screamed myself hoarse is the understatement of the year. It was a joyous day for those of us who love Zenyatta, Team-Z and ALL at Barn-55…I think that Zardana is awesome and often overlooked!….Here is her race…………NOT MINE……..

Curlin, Rock Hard Ten, posters of diary #313. I mentioned last night that if you think those 2 are beautiful, then I’m sure you’ll like More Than Real. Of course, being the smart savy Zenyatta lovers that you are, I’m sure you realized I meant More Than READY, More Thank Real is his filly. More Than Ready has some stunning photo’s on his fb page. I didn’t know of him in his racing days, but I often look at those photo’s. He is gorgeous. Hmmm, he must be Plucks sire then as well, and Pluck is no stranger to being called handsome. Does any one know what is wrong with Pluck? He hasn’t raced in ages.
Debbi G, thoughts are with Vivian & Winston. They were lucky to have such a long time together. Depending on his condition, accupuncture is certainly worth looking into. My cat had it, I was shocked that she sat there with needles in her, she is very skittish at the best of times. She had injured her shoulder, 2 treatments and she was right as rain. The lady that administered told me that it is a big help to older dogs with hip problems. At his age, we obviersly can’t expect too much, but it doesn’t hurt to enquire. Also, as someone above said, do get recommendations for a vet who specializes in ‘in home’ for when Winston is ready to go. I stayed with a friend when it was time to say goodbye to her dog, sad as it is, it was so much more comforting to say goodbye at home. Very peaceful for the dog, so much more personal. Actually, that is something anyone with older pets might want to think about looking into, not something you want to think about, but better to have done a little research with a clear mind, than have to do it at a heartbreaking time. On that depressing note, I’ll go. All spelling mistakes diliberate!!!

Congratulations to Bernardini on those two winning two-year-old fillies, AND WHY NOT at Saratoga and DREAMCASTER at Del Mar (my thanks to Maureen B and Roxi Cook for the heads-up). Prayers continue for John’s mom—-warm hugs and best wishes to her. Sleep tight, Zenny, till the morning light.
@Catherine Uher—Prayers for you during and following your kidney transplant. Hope one of your friends can give us a good report.
@Sunny Boyd—Kudos on your thoughtful post of comfort to Debbie G for her friend. Well said.
@Debbie G—Certainly we will say a prayer for your friend and her Winston. Also hoping that acupuncture may give them some more time together.
@Patricia, Joan, Sharon in Seattle and others who did not get on the prior e-mail lists: You can e-mail me at trinambn@yahoo.com, and I can then pass your info via e-mail to Barbara G., who would make a decision as to site-sharing, which I could then communicate back to you. I would be happy to serve as a confidential conduit.
@Stephanie—High hoof and good luck to you as you venture into ownership of a racehorse with Dream Team Racing Stables. Please keep us in the loop as your adventure progresses.
@Lil in Kentucky—Thanks for the hug, and it’s good to have you laughing again!
@Karen Gogue—Loved your conversation with Zenny!

Hi Zenny: I missed writing to you over the weekend. I was thinking of you though. So glad Zazu did well. I sure hope all the horses involved in the sale find a nice home like you did with the Moss’ and your John and all your connections. Love you Zenny.

Ms Zenyatta, good morning, good morning…need a pic showing that beautiful baby bump of yours. I love you, am catching up..it might take awhile this time. Have a wonderful day.
Lisa g
@DJ, We all get so busy, I quickly check Zenyatta’s site at work. Here in Zenyatta’s world, I find kind, caring, supportive, loving people. People that actually tell a joke, unlike myself..and I find, what so many of us get too busy for..prayer and a meditation with the Lord. Thank you for prayers, keep them coming. Lisa g.

@J Smith, I have Pluck in my virtual stable. I seem to recall that he has had a couple of works recently, although not many. I didn’t save the emails, sorry. Several of my favorites from last year were on long layoffs but are working back into racing shape.
Brenda S..
I watched the entire sale last night and I can’t remember when I’ve enjoyed sitting perfectly still for 3 hours so much. I was so proud of Bernie’s babies you could be excused for thinking I gave birth to them myself. It’s mind boggling to think what will happen if Zenny’s baby goes to auction. The Darley agent had very deep pockets and had no problem spending. I will be watching again tonight but don’t want to see any horse slip, that made me scream until he got up and seemed to be O.K. – I just cannot bear to see a horse fall.
@ Dottie, thanks again for giving us the heads up about the F-T TV, it’s almost as good as being there.
@ Debbie G I’m so sorry to hear about your friend. I read these words last Saturday, part of a poem, and I think they may comfort her.
“Let me go, I have so many things to see and do.
You must’nt tie yourself to me with tears
Be happy, we had so many beautiful years
I gave you my love
You can only guess how much you gave to me in happiness.”
There was more but I think these few lines may help and comfort.
Maggie N
To Debbie G,
Please make sure that your friend knows how lucky she is to have Winston for 11 1/2 years. I pray that I have my Toby that long. I’ve written before that he is the love of my life, and can’t imagine life without him. He’s going to be 6 in november, and his sister that I also have is going to be 5 this month. These are the most gentle dogs I’ve ever known, ( I was raised with Sheperds)and I am aware of the life span of Mastiffs being 6-10 years. I know that mere words aren’t going to mend her broken heart ( I’m crying for her now) but please, please let her know that there are people that send her many hugs and will be thinking about her.

Dear Charlotte Farmer: And, a horseman, George Patton rode in 1912 Olympics, then, as a cavalryman at heart, brought tank warfare to its peak in ‘The Battle of the Bulge,’ liberating Bastogne after the siege during which German proffers to exchange surrounded American troops for release of their officers was met when General Tony McAulliffe first laughed, then said: “Us surrender?” and sent a repeat of his next word, in a missive ‘To the German Commander,’ “Nuts!” http://www.thedropzone.org/europe/bulge/kinnard.html ~ In the film PATTON, General Patton, hearing this, said, “A man that eloquent deserves to be rescued.” .. . Loved your details of his California roots and family lands. K.

@Doreen, I love looking up pedigrees too. Regarding full siblings, did you know that Mahubah, the dam of Man O’War, was only bred to Fair Play? She was sometimes known as “Fair Play’s Wife” because of this. Although none of the siblings matched Man O’War, several were good racehorses. There’s also the “Barbarous Battalion”: Ruthless, Relentless, Remorseless, Regardless, and Merciless. These five full sisters were out of the mare Barbarity by Eclipse 2 (not THE Eclipse). Ruthless was the best of them. She won the inaugural Belmont Stakes in 1867, and the Travers that year. She entered the Racing Hall of Fame in 1975. All the sisters were stakes winners.

KIM S and SHARON IN SEATTLE and DOREEN: Trina N has kindly offered her email address on this string. If you send your info to Trina, she will give you the website. TRINA: I am grateful for your help in getting the word out about the annex. Hugs to you, dear heart. CHARLOTTE FARMER: didn’t know that about Patton! Fascinating! KAREN GOGUE: I sent you a personal email last night after I read your sweet conversation with Zenny and told you I cried with it and after it. Well, I just read it again and the tears flowed. I’ll never forget that conversation. So sorry about your shepherd. I would be in jail for murder had they done that to my cat, so I can empathize with your heartbreak. DOREEN: so it looks like we can all think about two names for their little treasures, not just one! Thanks for the research and info—wow, what names you cited—I keep learning every day at Zenyatta U!!! KARI B: I just love your videos—what a great videographer and filmmaker you are! Thank you!
