Good Morning,
I hope all of you had a wonderful weekend! My Team had a great deal of excitement in the Clement Hirsch-G1 again this year. ZAZU almost did it!
As you may know, this is a race I won 3 times in a row during my racing career. ZAZU ran in The Hirsch G-1 last Saturday at Del Mar…and closed strongly to just miss by a head. She cut to the rail at the top of the lane…and made a real race of it during the stretch run. ULTRA BLEND won closing on the outside.
I’d like to congratulate her connections. This G1 win was especially emotional for jockey, Tyler Baze. He has recently recovered from a very difficult injury…and this meant a great deal to him! Tyler, it is so great to see you back in action, healthy, and riding in top form again!
It was tremendous to see the other Grade 1 stakes races around the country. TIZWAY did a great job earning his victory in The Whitney and SEAN AVERY earned his win in a tight Vanderbilt finish! Other stakes racing over the weekend also provided lots of thrilling finishes. I hope your handicapping was very astute and proved to be quite LUCKY!
David is presently at Saratoga. The yearling sales action is now in full swing. Last month, Fasig Tipton started it all with their Kentucky July Sale. This evening, their Saratoga Yearling Sale is on center stage.
Lane’s End does have a consignment there. In the above photo, this yearling they are offering is being inspected for purchase by a veterinarian. That is just one of the stages involved when purchasing a yearling at auction. The ‘sales’ involve a great deal of homework and hard work…yet it is extremely energizing to anticipate the ‘future’.
Good luck to all involved with these horses and the sale.
If you’d like, you may watch the live feed of this auction on-line. It is intriguing to see how all of the action takes place in the sales ring.
Go to Fasig-Tipton.com….click on Fasig-Tipton TV….then go to LIVE AUCTION. This will give you the up-to-the-minute streaming. The Saratoga Yearling Sale begins tonight at 7 Eastern Time with Hip # 1…a Bernardini filly . Now….isn’t this TOO CUTE!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

PS…A HIGH HOOF to MY BERNIE. His foals had a very successful weekend of racing on both coasts!

@Judy Berube: YOU WIN! Name your poison.
@Eveline: Today’s Latin lesson – diastu in tempe means a)cranky old broad in some hot place; b)some weird receipe for left-overs; c)all of the above; d)none of the above? :-)
@All: More later, much later.

@Abigail from Montreal – I don’t think Vivian has tried acupuncture for Winston, but I will call her and suggest it to her. That’s a wonderful idea. At this point I’m sure she’s willing to try anything. Thank you, Abigail.

Hope you had the wind in your mane & shade aplenty today :)

@Debbie G. A prayer going out to Vivian and her precious Winston. I’m sure all here know how heartbreaking it is to have to put down a beloved companion. Even though they leave us, they always remain in our hearts forever. Remember to tell Vivian to go to http://www.rainbowsbridge.com for support and comfort.

Dear Derlene:
I didn’t see that A.P.Indy baby fall. I left the site before it happened. I think as the night wears on, all the areas on the fake grass where the horses relieve themselves gets wet and that’s probably why it’s slippery. Hope he/she is OK. Hugs, J.B.

@ Debbie G
The prayer I like and that makes sense to me is this one by St. Francis of Assisi
“Not to hurt our humble brethren is our first duty to them, but to stop there is not enough. We have higher mission-to be of service to them wherever they require it”.
In that sense our duty is, to let them go when life becomes a burden, it’s a hard thing to do but never-the-less, it’s the last act of kindness we can bestow upon them. I wish you peace in knowing death isn’t always the worst.

For those who would like to end the day with a Night Prayer/Hymn:
……………………………………
Now that the daylight dies away,
By all thy grace and love,
Thee, Maker of the world, we pray
To watch our bed above.
Let dreams depart and phantoms fly,
The offspring of the night,
Keep us, like shrines, beneath thine eye,
Pure in our foe’s despite.
This grace on thy redeemed confer,
Eternal Lord, the Comforter.

That is so lovely, DJ – like wishing everyone a blessed and peaceful good night –

Debbie G—–I know how Vivian must be feeling, remembering when I lost my wonderful Sheltie, Luke. He was only 7yrs old, the love of my life.It sounds like her Mastiff might have hip dsyplasia, so common with large breeds.I will be thinking of Vivian & Winston & praying that he will be ok.

Hello, Sweet Z! Yes, I did enjoy the races on TV from Saratoga this past weekend. I was pulling for Tizway in the Whitney and he nailed it! Also, was happy that the longshot, Sean Avery, held on by a nose. Being from North Carolina, I was excited that Tarheel Mom won the Honorable Miss. Great racing weekend!
@Debbie G., Heartfelt prayers and thoughts to Vivian and Winston (and to you, also). I, too, am single and have canine children — it is never easy to have to say good-bye. Hugs.
@Lil in KY, Glad to hear from you and hope you are doing well. All the best!
@Amanda Gilliland, Hope you are well; we miss hearing from you!

@Kathy Kimber – I want to thank you for sharing the information with others regarding *Noor’s arrival in Kentucky. On the 30th we will be arriving some time between 1:30 and 3:00 p.m. at Old Friends. Michael has not shared with me his plans for the 31st other than there will be a ceremony at 10:00 a.m. On *Noor’s behalf I want to thank anyone who will be able to come out and greet the champ and share in HIS day. When you think about it his nemeses, the mighty Citation, sleeps there at Calumet and his sire, the great Nasrullah is there at Claiborne. The three make their own Triangle similar to Howard’s Triangle H.
@ Karen Gogue – Regarding Kip at Hollypark I have left enough bread crumbs on Z’s site to fall over. For all who ARE interested there is something really terrific on Zenyatta it just needs someone such as John or Dottie to go and watch. I guarantee, it is out of this world.
@Terry Crow – Do you have an old movie star joke or story that you can share? It would be nice to hear. I had forgotten Field of Dreams but I have used, on occasions where *Noor is concerned the phrase, “If you build it, they will come.”
@ Kathryn Cogswell – Robert Taylor as Colonel Alois Podhajsky, be still my heart. God he was gorgeous and he was so good in that movie. Thank you General George Patton for rescuing the great whites, otherwise they would have been slaughtered by the advance of the Russian army. Most people do not realize that General Patton was a native Californian. His family owned what is now Pasadena all the way to the San Gabriel Mountains. His grandfather was Don Benito Wilson whom Mt. Wilson is named after. Where the Rose Bowl now sits was part of the Patton holdings along with part of Catalina Island.
@John Shirreffs – How is you mother doing? I hope and pray all is going well.
@Zenyatta – I miss you. Seeing that one picture the other day just made me want to see more of you. This site is dedicated to you and everyone who posts here has only your best at heart. May all who post here to YOUR site be a small reflection of your generous and loving heart.

Dear Signofthetimes:
I saw the video of the Galileo Colt (Hip 115). He is gorgeous. I don’t know who the buyers are.It is strange that the A.P. Indy’s didn’t sell at higher prices. The Street Cry – A.P. Interest Colt is another gorgeous one. Love them all. Sweet Dreams to you too. Hugs, J.B.

Sorry to hear about your friends dog. It is very
Hard to let go, but have her look into the dog’s
Eyes. That will help her decide. The rainbow bridge
Is a great place to meet old friends. Try and find
A mobile vet to come to her home.

Ahhh Zenny, where do I begin? It is nice to see some ‘old’ posters back, and to have a nice quiet chit-chat with you is such a tonic for the soul…I suppose you have heard from Dottie about your John’s Mom…yes, we pray everyday that this lovely lady is feeling better each and everyday and that she feels the love and warmth coming her way…Have you heard about Noor…Mmmmm, what’s that? Yes, he is going to his final home to sleep in heavenly peace, for all to come and visit him to pay homage and respect to the great champion that he was….yes, Zenny, he was one of the greats, I know that your John knows this first hand….oh, he told you about him? Then I am pleased….and just think, one day, some time in history, it will recorded, that it too, will be said that you were the greatest horse to have graced us with your presence on the track in this Century. They will come to you as they do Noor, and all the other greats, and say, “you were the greatest horse they ever saw”, oh, don’t blush! It is true… racing like the wind, ears up and striding home with such heart that it can not be described by the mighty pen nor word…only those who saw you and try to tell others of you, will ever know what it was truly like…And how are you feeling my sweet one? Are you happy? Some time ago, I thought I saw that a little of the spirit in your eyes has gone from you…what’s that? I know, we miss you too, terribly…we know in our hearts that you would love for us to be there with you…Mmmmm?…yes, we understand that you are there to be a Momma – and a mighty fine one you’ll be too! I know, I know…we feel the same, we want you to be home too…. just know that each of us, and you and I, are with one another in a bond so tightly held together with love and longing….nothing will ever break that lasting love, and the bond we have for each other…nothing…and that no matter how long it takes for us to be together again… time cannot take those days away as swiftly as the wind, but we will be here for you always….ahhh, don’t be sad..it is just for a little while…Oh, you do? Yes, just being a horse now is so wonderful for you and I am so pleased that you love it…Mmmm, what was that you say? Oh, you never were one to keep a conversation and speak up, always listening….yes, I will, I promise to come back…always…I don’t want to go…I know you don’t…yes, you need to sleep and rest and dream of those days of old gone bye…remember me my sweet….remember…and live those dreams…for they are you…dream…dream dream….

DEBBIE G: I think most of us here have lost beloved companion animals…but we know they are short-trippers when they light up our lives. I lost two wonderful cats–one at 17 and one at 14–to serious diseases. I never thought I’d get over each loss, but I did…and rainbow bridge helped me, as JAN said above. Good friends stand by and just be there for a friend–sounds like you are more than a good friend.
MICHELLE! I will go onto the web tomorrow and search! Thanks for the offer!!
DJ: thanks for the hymn–when you have a frantic day, reading lofty poetry is like balm.
JUDY B: I am so sorry you still haven’t gotten into our “annex”–I only wish you could be there. And Judy, what are Zenny candles? Thank you!
Goodnight everyone–dreams of Zenny to us all!

I am sad, Angel prayers for you and your friend…it is never easy to say goodbye…someone years ago poisoned my beautiful German Shepard Lucky, she was the best …I have never wanted to be close to a dog again…broke my heart into a million fine pieces..still not together again….the hurt was too much…she came to us as a stray that someone had ‘dumped’ at the Harbor at my husband’s job…we called her Lucky because she was ‘lucky’ to have us, as well as us, to have her….
