Good Morning,
I hope all of you had a wonderful weekend! My Team had a great deal of excitement in the Clement Hirsch-G1 again this year. ZAZU almost did it!
As you may know, this is a race I won 3 times in a row during my racing career. ZAZU ran in The Hirsch G-1 last Saturday at Del Mar…and closed strongly to just miss by a head. She cut to the rail at the top of the lane…and made a real race of it during the stretch run. ULTRA BLEND won closing on the outside.
I’d like to congratulate her connections. This G1 win was especially emotional for jockey, Tyler Baze. He has recently recovered from a very difficult injury…and this meant a great deal to him! Tyler, it is so great to see you back in action, healthy, and riding in top form again!
It was tremendous to see the other Grade 1 stakes races around the country. TIZWAY did a great job earning his victory in The Whitney and SEAN AVERY earned his win in a tight Vanderbilt finish! Other stakes racing over the weekend also provided lots of thrilling finishes. I hope your handicapping was very astute and proved to be quite LUCKY!
David is presently at Saratoga. The yearling sales action is now in full swing. Last month, Fasig Tipton started it all with their Kentucky July Sale. This evening, their Saratoga Yearling Sale is on center stage.
Lane’s End does have a consignment there. In the above photo, this yearling they are offering is being inspected for purchase by a veterinarian. That is just one of the stages involved when purchasing a yearling at auction. The ‘sales’ involve a great deal of homework and hard work…yet it is extremely energizing to anticipate the ‘future’.
Good luck to all involved with these horses and the sale.
If you’d like, you may watch the live feed of this auction on-line. It is intriguing to see how all of the action takes place in the sales ring.
Go to Fasig-Tipton.com….click on Fasig-Tipton TV….then go to LIVE AUCTION. This will give you the up-to-the-minute streaming. The Saratoga Yearling Sale begins tonight at 7 Eastern Time with Hip # 1…a Bernardini filly . Now….isn’t this TOO CUTE!
With Love,
Hugs to All~
Z
PS…A HIGH HOOF to MY BERNIE. His foals had a very successful weekend of racing on both coasts!
Jeanie
Dear Z,
I was so proud of Zazu Saturday. She is becoming the filly version of Calvin Borel, with two very brave recent finishes up through the rail. She looks so delicate and feminine but she is a real scrapper or should I say scraper?
I want to let you know how proud I am of all your Zisters for the action they have taken over the last couple of days of helping Valley View Ranch Equine Rescue pull four of your four-legged distant cousins of of a feedlot in Nevada. They were due to be sent to a slaughterhouse in Canada today. But enough money was raised to keep them from being shipped and just a little more is needed to completely pay for their pull fees and expenses to bring them to a new home. I spoke with Marlene Dodge at Valley View Saturday night and she told me she was wondering where all the $50 random donations were coming from. I told her I KNEW. WE ARE ZISTERS — HEAR US ROAR! If you would like to see the foursome we saved, please check out http://www.valleyviewranchequinerescue.webs.com.
You can also help them make up the last bit they need to finish the job. In any case, I feel really good about this. And I feel really good about something Marlene told me. She said she used to see T’breds in the feedlot when she went there in the past, but hardly at all — almost never — anymore. I am really relieved to hear this. I’m sure you are too. Doesn’t make up for Deputy Broad, but hopefully we are doing better up here in Northern California, or at least I’d like to think so.
Dear one, I so appreciate you being a standardbearer for all your kind. This mantle just fell on you but you carry it so graciously and gracefully.
You are simply the very best.
Your humble J

Z…you are so right…the racing over the week end was great! I’ve never been to Saratoga but I LOVE Del Mar. Hope you and littler Z are doing well, there has been some bad weather in Kentucky, hope it went around Lane’s End.
Thanks for the info on the auction, It is hard for me not to bid but I will do my best because I only have 1 stall left in my barn. My husband has tried to keep it full of supplies so I won’t think we need another horse!

ZENYATTA!!! TOP OF THE MORNING, AFTERNOON AND EVENING TO YOU, PRECIOUS GIRL! One look at you and cares fall away because you are so inspirational–such a perfect example of a thoroughbred–you take our breaths away.
DOREEN: the photo story of the mustangs you posted was sensational. I have sent it to 110 friends nearby and will post on my own site.
HORSES: without them where would mankind be? Like Doreen’s video says, horses help make this country–I never thought about it that way before, but it’s so obvious! Without horses, how could we have pushed further and further past our frontiers and established and claimed so much territory? I think the horse should be the symbol of the USA instead of the eagle…they have done so much for us all.

Dear Zenny
Thanks so much for the info on Fastig-Tipton
Sale. I was mesmerized by the videos of all the
beautiful baby equines. One of your “Dads” is out
Of an AP Indy mare. What a combination!!!! It
Is really fun to look at the Fillys and colts with
Their dam and sites photos. You can see qualities
Of both. Bernies all seem to have his gorgeous
Head so smooth sleek and polished. Your “Dad” seems
To produce a more wholesome look. What a fun sale !!!
I really love the Galileo colt !!! Frankel jr. Thanks
Dottie for info on how to watch the sale.
Hope you had a good restful day basking in the
Sun under your tree with TT.

@Barbara Grimaldi; I was in Saratoga this weekend and according to their Post Parade Magazine the Travers will be televised on NBC. To everyone a Street Cry/Alchemist by AP Indy 2 yr old filly Why Not Now,trained by Michael Matz went off at very high odds and won the race over the favorites Crespano and Dark Nebula. Keep an eye out for her; she ran a great race. I was able to get tickets for the Alabama so there are still seats available for those who are thinking of going.

We went to Ladies Day yesterday at Del Mar…wonderful memories of last year when we witnessed your 3-peat here!! You are everything I e er read about and dreamed of growing up. We love you! Some day Inplan on visiting you!!

Another interesting note on Dancinginmydreams–most Barbaro fans leaned heavily on her. She suffered the same injury as Barbaro, spent months in the hospital. All most of us could was hope that if she could do it so could Barbaro.
Every year as she gets close to coaling she is given more muscle stim. Totally interesting stuff considering I use stim for pain relief.
She has turned into a very successful broodmare. Of course, she is has special needs but it’s been shown that she is in totally capable hands. A case of knowing the horse and being willing to do all that is necessary for there welfare. Kudos to her owners for helping her become so successful in her second career.

Jeanie- what an excellent post!! I am so happy ValleyView is on top of the situation at the Nevada feedlot. We all must become more vigilent.

@Terry Crow: Dear man your jokes light up our lives so keep them coming. Those who do not want to read prayers/hymns or jokes should just skip over said posts. I like to think there is something for everyone on this site.
If there is something you don’t care for just leave it and go on.
@Zenyatta: Dear lady we miss you so much and really appreciate the new pictures when we get them. Take care in this horrid heat.

Mrs. Pickens keep up the good work you go girl.

Dear Zenny
Forgot to mention Jeff Siegel (HRTV) just gave
You a great compliment. Two filly’s connections
Maybe considering the BCC instead of the LC.
He said only a Zenyatta can take on those boys
In the BCC. Even though the have not sorted out
Except maybe Tisway. You are such a talent we will
Never forget. XXXOOO

As Roxi Cook mentioned in an earlier post today, Bernardini’s, two year old filly, Dreamcatcher (out of Winendynme, by Dynaformer), was a very impressive winner in the 6th at Del Mar on Sunday. Hopefully she will continue to move forward and we will see her in the Del Mar Debutante (Gr.I) on Sep 03. She is trained by Bob Baffert for Westrock Stables. The interesting thing about this filly is that she was foaled in Great Britain by Overbrook Farm and brought back to the states and sold at Keeneland.
Maria K.
Zazu did great, considering she was the only 3 years old in the race. She is getting better. I hope to see her beat older horses later. I love you Queen Z!!!
Sheri
Thats cool! Congrats to all the winners!! Love you Zenyatta! I cant wait to read your next post! :D

I’m sure you also heard that Mikey was victorious in the match race against Chantal Sutherland. I’m not crazy about match races, but this one was pretty safe and Mike won handily, even with a lot of pressure. That’s why he is a Hall of Fame rider and there was never more pressure on him than when he was riding you during your great career! I love Chantal, but was very happy to see Mikey win! He’ll always be my favorite jockey.

i WOULD LOVE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT HOW THE SALES ARE CONDUCTED. SUCH AS WHO SETS THE RESERVE AND IF THE RESERVE IS NOT MET I HAVE HEARD THE TERM “BUY BACK”. WHY WOULD SOMEONE HAVE TO BUY BACK A HORSE THEY OWNED IN THE FIRST PLACE?
Bonnie Blevins
Zenny! I went to Hollywood Park the other day went to barn 55 stall 85 and saw your name plate! I cant wait to see you at Lanes End.
Tillie Jenkins
Finally coming back to KY! I’ll try to come see ya Z!!!!

@ Diana S. – Got my tags!! Thank you so much, right now they’re on the fridge, mine is coming with me to the races, Ivins is going to stay on the fridge. Don’t know if I’m the only one, but still don’t “get” the Diastu. First thought is was something fancy in Latin (not alone in that one) then I thought that is was your last name: wrong again! I’m pretty sure you’re not referring to the flower or the computerized data system. Please enlighten me here!

Zazu ran great on Saturday. For a 3 yr old filly she seems to really be coming into her own. Hope she is around as a 4 yr old.
I would love to see some current pictures of you and your tiny dancer. I bet your belly is getting bigger and bigger. Would love to have a head on shot to check out your width. Love and miss you Big Z!!!

Just want to do my daily saying hi to you Z…… I will check out the sale streaming line. I bet David wishes he could find another Zenyatta…but Z…there will never be another one like you…you can dance, you set records in racing that may never be beat, you have a personality that is almost human….that is why us fans love you so much….you are just such a sweet horse full of personality. Hugs to you Z…

Zenyatta, you are the best.
Barbara
I am so glad to read your diary today. I thought about it all day and then I get home and here it is! Thank you Dottie and Queen Z!! :)

Good afternoon Zenny. Thanks for the info on the sale and also the races. It’s so exciting to see your and little z’s relatives doing so well. Thanks also to all who are working so hard to save horses from slaughter. Will call Mountaineer to put in my 2 cents worth too.
Abigail from Montreal
Good (early) evening all.
I guess you’ve had some dinner by now, big girl, or else are about to come in for the night with your BFF. The light is so beautiful at this time of year, I’m sure you ladies get some extra paddock time!
Thanks to Dottie for the link to Fasig-Tipton…I’m thinking that I’ll tune in @ 7 p.m. Montreal time to check it out. I did this once before — can’t remember who the auction house was though — when the Overbrook Farm sale was on. It was really neat to watch!
I also thought I’d recommend this link for DOG LOVERS especially. It’s quite an amazing English Bull Dog who surfs, skateboards & etc. AMAZING and will surely make you smile!!!

Just a daily note, Sweet Zenny, to say I love you –
