Good Morning,
I hope all of you had a wonderful weekend! My Team had a great deal of excitement in the Clement Hirsch-G1 again this year. ZAZU almost did it!
As you may know, this is a race I won 3 times in a row during my racing career. ZAZU ran in The Hirsch G-1 last Saturday at Del Mar…and closed strongly to just miss by a head. She cut to the rail at the top of the lane…and made a real race of it during the stretch run. ULTRA BLEND won closing on the outside.
I’d like to congratulate her connections. This G1 win was especially emotional for jockey, Tyler Baze. He has recently recovered from a very difficult injury…and this meant a great deal to him! Tyler, it is so great to see you back in action, healthy, and riding in top form again!
It was tremendous to see the other Grade 1 stakes races around the country. TIZWAY did a great job earning his victory in The Whitney and SEAN AVERY earned his win in a tight Vanderbilt finish! Other stakes racing over the weekend also provided lots of thrilling finishes. I hope your handicapping was very astute and proved to be quite LUCKY!
David is presently at Saratoga. The yearling sales action is now in full swing. Last month, Fasig Tipton started it all with their Kentucky July Sale. This evening, their Saratoga Yearling Sale is on center stage.
Lane’s End does have a consignment there. In the above photo, this yearling they are offering is being inspected for purchase by a veterinarian. That is just one of the stages involved when purchasing a yearling at auction. The ‘sales’ involve a great deal of homework and hard work…yet it is extremely energizing to anticipate the ‘future’.
Good luck to all involved with these horses and the sale.
If you’d like, you may watch the live feed of this auction on-line. It is intriguing to see how all of the action takes place in the sales ring.
Go to Fasig-Tipton.com….click on Fasig-Tipton TV….then go to LIVE AUCTION. This will give you the up-to-the-minute streaming. The Saratoga Yearling Sale begins tonight at 7 Eastern Time with Hip # 1…a Bernardini filly . Now….isn’t this TOO CUTE!
With Love,
Hugs to All~
Z
PS…A HIGH HOOF to MY BERNIE. His foals had a very successful weekend of racing on both coasts!

I loved reading this part:
Leading sire Street Cry, who produced champions Zenyatta and Street Sense, along with a host of major international winners, is represented by a colt consigned by Taylor Made. He’s out of the AP Indy mare AP Interest, dam of stakes winner Golden Spikes. AP Interest is a half-sister to Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies winner Cash Run. On Tuesday night, another Street Cry colt consigned by Taylor Made will go through the ring; he’s out of the stakes producer Dance Swiftly, a full sister to Canadian Triple Crown winner and dual Hall of Famer Dance Smartly.

:-D Happy Monday to all the Z Dumplings!

P.S. About your Bernie :-)
The stellar young stallion Bernardini has 15 foals in the sale, including eight on the first night alone, while another of his prominent sons, Malibu Moon, is the sire of eight sale yearlings.
—————
Among Bernardini’s progeny is a filly consigned by Dromoland Farm, Inc; she is out of Nataliano, making her a three-quarter sibling to Grade 1 winner AP Adventure. A Bernardini filly consigned by Denali Stud, is out of a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Dancing Forever; their dam, Dancinginmydreams, is a sister to Grade 1 winners Heavenly Prize and Oh What A Windfall, from the family of Dancing Spree, Furlough, Fantastic Find and Finder’s Fee.

Thx for the auction tip, I’ll be watching. Have a wonderful day dear Z. and all those who love you!
Brenda S..
Dear Zenny, It certainly was an exciting weekend of racing, Zazu tried so hard and Bernie’s youngsters did very well. Thanks for the tip about the yearling sale tonight. I’ve always wanted to experience one but the closest I’ve come so far is seeing the empty sale ring at Keeneland so watching tonight will be a real treat.
Hope you and the babe are well and enjoying the paddock with Tasty T.

Zenny, I’m sure the yearling sale brings back fond memories for YOU. It was during your sale that you came into the hands of the Mosses who saw a great filly with loads of potential and had David seal the deal for them. How blessed we all are that your sale took place with people of charachter and gentle spirits.
You journey has been so maazing. I’m among those still hoping for a book about all things Zenyatta. Enjoy your day, my Queen.
tony
Good afternoon, Zenny. As usual I found a very enlightening post from you and Dottie.
I cannot imagine horseracing without YOU.
Thank God David purchased you for the Mosses. Thy are true horsemen in the best sense of the word.
Laura
Nice try Zazu :) and love you too Z :)

good afternoon, sorry it has been awhile since i checked in. however haven’t missed a diary entry. love reading them all.
I am in Seattle, our track is Emerald downs, in Auburn. Spent a wonderful day there, yesterday. Premio Esmeralda Day. We had 2 stakes races, for 2 yr olds. always fun to watch the babies run. They were all professional and of course beautiful. they all did real well. A Bernardini filly won the Angie C stakes. She was quick and had a big heart. Can only wonder and look forward to watching your baby grow up as well as this baby. she is out of Puxa Saco, her name is EXCLUSIVE DIVA. Anyway, just wanted to check in and let you know about EMD’s Bernardini’s stakes winner. enjoy the day and the scenary, and know we are always thinking good thoughts about you and your extended family.

Dear Zenny – Zazu did run a great race. She is really quite a pretty horse. Bernie’s offspring are fantastic. I can’t wait to see your foal race. That will be so exciting to watch – a triple crown winner for sure. Have a blessed day beautiful girl.
Fran
Hi Z! Bet you are in your stall because I hear it is really storming in Kentucky. Stay safe. Yes, I think I will watch the sale today because it is always so interesting. Have a wonderful evening Z! xxoo
Celeste
Thank you for sharing another sweet diary entry with your adoring fans!! Its fun to learn more about the auction processes and I will try to remember to tune in this evening to watch some of the bidding – how fun!! The weekend racing was very exciting and I loved seeing Zazu get so close – I thought she was going to make it, but it was her first attempt against older fillies and mares, too. Thank you for sharing, Zenyatta and Dottie and thanks to the rest of you for all your good messages and links!
Lorri
Hi Momma Z! I was so rooting for Zazu and I thought she was going to get it! So close. Tizway ran an excellent race! This time of year in racing is exciting, leading up to the Breeders Cup. Its always on tv in my home on the weekends. I may not be sitting there watching every race, but I can sure hear it while doing things like cooking and cleaning and laundry. Have a nice evening! xoxo

Dear Z and Dottie:
Z hope you are feeling great and enjoying yourself in the paddock with TT. Dottie, thank you for the info on the live stream Fasig Tipton TV site. Was checking out some of Benie’s and Street Cry’s kids. They are beautiful. Love you Z and love to all of you, Judy and Russ
Linda Waltman
Hi, Zenyatta.
Any word on the “Z” pin?
Miss you.
Roxi Cook
Love watching auctions! And in case you missed it, a 2 year old filly by Bernardini won the 6th race (Maiden Special Weight) at Del Mar yesterday. So exciting! Her name is Dreamcatcher and she was the favorite.
Sharyn
Zazu surely was terrific – such a close one! I’ll be sure to check that link tonight on the yearling sale – how interesting.
Bernie’s offspring certainly had a great weekend of racing!
Hope your enjoying your day with not to many storms!
Tressia in Phoenix
I had such a wonderful day at Del Mar on Saturday. It was so exciting to see ZAZU almost win. It was also very exciting to see our John and Mike Smith standing together to have a chat. I got a picture of that lucky me. I have to go back there again! We are so lucky to have this website to keep up to date with everything Team Z. It was pretty cool to see several people at Del Mar wearing Zenyatta shirts…..go Team!

@Sunny Boyd. On diary 313. What in the world is going on with you??? First it’s DJ and then Terry Crow? As so many have said, if you don’t like it, just don’t read it and certainly DON’T attack that person. That’s not your decision to make on this site. This site is for everyone. Yes, everyone is free to express their opinion, but for heaven’s sake, you don’t have to be so mean about it! I’ve always enjoyed your posts, but now I think I’ll exercise my right and just skip over yours. Follow my example.
Eveline
Hi Zenny, I LOVE the sales! They are a lot of hard work, both from the consigners and from the buyers side. Saratoga is very special in atmosphere, something about the evening, lights, expensive horses. Everyone dresses just a little nicer than usual. Everyone who has the opportunity to go to a sale should try it!!
Jo Anne
Hello Queen Z, so glad to hear from you. Racing just isn’t the same with the Queen. Hope you are feeling well. Zazu has much to be proud of she ran a really game race against those older mares. She is very pretty. Made me sad to see the race and not see you since you were the star of the track.
Hugs and kisses!
Jan
Zenyatta,
Happy Monday. Races were really interesting this weekend. Did you see Mike win the battle of the Exes. Stay cool and healthy Big Mama. :)
Penny
Dear Zinny,
Bernie’s babies are doing well but you will deliver a SUPER STAR! Can’t wait for a contest to name the foal.
Ride up….
Penny

OOPS typo:
racing just isn’t the same withOUT the Queen. Not only are you the greatest Mare in history you also brought a lot of new people into horse racing and that is a really good thing as it was losing patrons. You are missed and loved very much Zenyatta.
