Good morning everyone,
I hope you have had a very nice week. I have. It has been quite relaxing and peaceful here at Lane’s End.
Right before my team left Barn 55 for the summer (remember they had to take everything out for the every other year cleaning process) a friend of Anita’s (John’s sister) came to visit the barn.
He is an artist named Pema. He brought John a lovely piece which is meant to bring ‘good luck’. What a very sweet gesture on his part! Many thanks to him. For people in racing…luck is a very precious consideration!
In looking over the entries for this weekend…..the races look to be very exciting. Again, as seems to be the case during the summer seasons, there are quite a few major stakes races running around the country. They have definite implications as far as the road to the Breeders Cup is concerned.
David is currently at Saratoga for the next few weeks working. They have a yearling sale there next week. He also enjoys the opportunity to visit with the other horses he has purchased for clients and see the ones that have grown up from the matings he has planned for their owners. It is always so much fun to touch base. We horses….are like his dear friends!
Sarah will also be going to Saratoga to work for a few weeks. This is great news as Dottie has asked her to get some ‘fun photos’ from that venue for us to share with you in the diary. This will be so special to get an up to the minute report on the Saratoga happenings from these two people we know so well.
I’m off to stay cool under one of my favorite trees. Have a splendid weekend…enjoy the great racing…drink lots of water to stay hydrated….and most of all enjoy your time with your family and friends.
With love,
Hugs to all~ (especially my John’s mom, Mary Jane, who is truly not feeling well at this time)

Here’s the legislation that I referred to above — probably important for ALL horse advocates & activists to know. I would suspect that Deputy Broad was, for example, an ILLEGALLY slaughtered horse by these standards if he was sent to Alberta or anywhere else in Canada:

@Abigail: Could Americans write members of Parliament? Politely, of course. If so, perhaps the addresses of a couple of key individuals for us to write to in support of any action to stop Canada from accepting horses shipped into the country for slaughter?

@West Virginia Derby – “Sherriff Cogburn” has rounded up a posse and he will avenge the Deputy’s death tonight!

@ Hiroki Goto – Has 2 mounts for Wesley, race 1, and race 4. If the Sherriff doesn’t get them, then the Kamikaze will. 幸運弘樹

Zenyatta I love you forever! I am so thankful that Dottie has set this site up to keep us informed about you. She is a very special lady. Your John is also very special. I am still hopeful that one day I will get to see you.
@ All – I applaud everyone taking action against horse slaughter. I agree with others on this site that we don’t want this website to be just about issues such as this. It should be a fun place for us to come and share our love of Zenyatta and all horses. However, we cannot pretend that all is wonderful in the world and ignore the issues eitehr. I think we need a balance, share our love of the great Zenyatta and all horses and keep each other informed of important issues. It is going to take people like us who are obviously PASSIONATE about the sport and horses to help make positive change. It is on us to contact the tracks, congressmen, NTRA etc and let them know how the fans feel. Obviously, most of the policies that have been implemented so far at the tracks are just for show and just a public relations ploy to make us fans feel better. I want to see REAL change. So let’s keep sharing the love and occasionally have calls to action for these important issues. As I said before, we cannot turn a blind eye – that is why is continues to be such a problem. Best wishes to all.

@ ALL: I heartily agree that Zenny’s site can not only be about issues like horse slaughter. There must be a balance, so that we all can come here to celebrate Team Z, Zenny herself and our growing — and enriching — friendships! I just wanted those interested in horse advocacy to know that some of us in Canada are working fervently to end horse slaughter.
@ Diana S. — By all means, write! CHDC welcomes international support because it makes us stronger to have allies in the USA and other countries.

@Gloria Jeanne-
Thank you for the link to that precious video. It has always been one of my favorites. The young lady in the video posted some really great pictures of a visit with Zenyatta on Z’s FB….

Thanks so much for sharing Canadian issues,
Laws and how to help fight this horrible fate.
Legislation is definately the way to go and “horse
Police” is a great idea. The SPCA’s have investigators
And horses should also.

@Terry Crow -loved the jokes yesterday. I forgot to thank you…

@ All – I posted a link about Deputy Broad on the Breeders’ Cup facebook page and asked horse racing fans to sign the petition. It was PROMPTLY removed. What does that tell you????? The industry wants to turn a blind eye. My comment was not aggressivie or accusatory at all. The facebook page has 32,000 or so fans. I simply wanted to reach as many fans as possible. I was very disappointed that the post was removed. It just shows what an uphill battle the issue is. I LOVE the sport because I LOVE the horse.

@Lil in KY- You are in my thoughts and prayers…miss you!

Working on the launch of the new site…had to choose a name before I read all this but NO DAY OFF can be our subtitle. Will not reveal the dot come of the site except through emails. Some of you have long lists of emails of Z-fans, and I have copies of some. I will start there. Please, once it’s launched, do not give the name of the site on this site for many good reasons.
SHARON: all the best to you–sending lots of white light and prayers your way.
BARBARA WOOD: favorite Lucy–the ballet dancer and the wine stomping and the baking in the stove episodes.

Barbara Grimaldi, thanks for taking on the new site. Michelle Cross, agree & nice try. GO GARY GO! Gary, have u been to Deputy’s fb, I think u may find company there. By the way Sheriff Cogburn is owned by country singer Toby Keith, I recently learned he has a farm in OK & does quite well with his TB’s. They race at HP too.
JAG posted this Ghandi quote a few days ago but it bears repeating – “You many never know the result of your actions, but if no action is taken, there will be no result”. There is another good one by Einstein on my fb. Have a good day everyone, and smile, we are doing something good.

For those who would like to start this day with a Morning Prayer/Hymn:
………………………………….
O God of truth, prepare our minds
To hear and heed your word;
Fill every heart that longs for you
With your mysterious presence, Lord.
Almighty Father, our Good God
And blessed Spirit, hear our prayer;
Teach us to love eternal truth
And seek its freedom everywhere.

Beautiful Saturday to you Queen Z. Should be some great racing today.
Mary Johnson: Spoke with Cindy in Rosemary Williams office at Mountaineer Park to express my anger at the slaughter
of Deputy Broad, she said they are pursuing legal avenues at this time regarding the trainer/owner. She said they do support the no slaughter law at Mountaineer. I suggested they police it much more carefully so there is no repeat of this again.

Good morning St. Zenyatta,
I do believe I have THE name for your foal
how about either
March Madness or Zenyatta’s Madness…
take off on your foal being born in March & we all know & as you pointed out College Basketball is one of the games you watch.
@ Kari Bussell
If you do decide to use the poem
I appreciate it if you re-produced it exactly the way I wrote it, because that’s how I want the reader to read it. And of course you don’t change athg of the content.
Also, when we came across a horrendous act of abuse of an animal during my animal rescue days, tempers & feelings/emotions ran high & wild, and individuals had to learn to distinguish between simple revenge & what actions would be most beneficial for the animals in the long run. Personal pain should not be used/confused with reality of the entire picture.
Have a great day!!!On your meadow, pluckin’ the clover & that Blue Grass
Sunny Boyd
P.S.
Even though we all the Animal Welfare Groups, ASPCA, Humane Societies, etc Animal abuse happens every day, we euthanize ca 10 million animals annually.
Passed laws/codes are only as good as the enforcement is. How much money is there for the enforcement? Or will there be? How much can you investigate/ enforce without violating owners rights? We have a huge dog-fighting problem. It’s a billion $ abomination. Investigations take months/yrs. to crack, and that’s only the substantial ones. How many dogs die during that time?
