Good morning everyone,
I hope you have had a very nice week. I have. It has been quite relaxing and peaceful here at Lane’s End.
Right before my team left Barn 55 for the summer (remember they had to take everything out for the every other year cleaning process) a friend of Anita’s (John’s sister) came to visit the barn.
He is an artist named Pema. He brought John a lovely piece which is meant to bring ‘good luck’. What a very sweet gesture on his part! Many thanks to him. For people in racing…luck is a very precious consideration!
In looking over the entries for this weekend…..the races look to be very exciting. Again, as seems to be the case during the summer seasons, there are quite a few major stakes races running around the country. They have definite implications as far as the road to the Breeders Cup is concerned.
David is currently at Saratoga for the next few weeks working. They have a yearling sale there next week. He also enjoys the opportunity to visit with the other horses he has purchased for clients and see the ones that have grown up from the matings he has planned for their owners. It is always so much fun to touch base. We horses….are like his dear friends!
Sarah will also be going to Saratoga to work for a few weeks. This is great news as Dottie has asked her to get some ‘fun photos’ from that venue for us to share with you in the diary. This will be so special to get an up to the minute report on the Saratoga happenings from these two people we know so well.
I’m off to stay cool under one of my favorite trees. Have a splendid weekend…enjoy the great racing…drink lots of water to stay hydrated….and most of all enjoy your time with your family and friends.
With love,
Hugs to all~ (especially my John’s mom, Mary Jane, who is truly not feeling well at this time)

Hi Zenny. Hope you had a wonderful Friday. That shade tree sounds great and good for Pema, we all can use good luck.
Thoughts and prayers to Your John’s Mom, Mary Jane.
@Barbara Grimaldi, Barbara Wood, Patricia and Trina Nagele–I couldn’t pass up those faces either. Thanks for joining in and here’s hoping other Z’sters will too so we can make a difference.
@LauraJ–you are most welcome. If you find out anymore about how much has been raised so we can keep it posted. REMEMBER everyone, we only have until Monday, August 8th–Deputy Broad’s, No Day Off!!!
@Gary Moulton and anyone else headed to WV, can’t wait to see you make headlines :)
@Kari Bussell–The Mouse Story was point on for the last few days posts.
@delon scott–thanks for the info about the radio interview with Charlotte Farmer about Noor.
@Z’sters & Z Dumplings–great posts and I feel the same as others, something monumental may be happening. Positive thoughts everyone. Remember the Whos of Whoville, when every voice shouted, they were heard.
Zenny, so much love coming your way because that’s what we feel coming from you and your Teams. Have a great Friday night and enjoy the races this weekend.
Lotsa love to all.

@All, I hit the contact info jackpot when clicking on a link I found. It has tons of links to government/horse/press all over US. It’s a few yrs old, but u can easily find out if the person listed still has that job or who replacement is. Problem is, it is preceeded by a story on another famous trainer that I really don’t feel I should post here out of respect for Z’s connections. I have no way to know if the story is correct and I can’t post the all the contact info without the story. I will put a link on my fb page. Those of you who visit my page, if you have anyway of removing the story, by all means, post the contact info here. But I don’t think we should be posting that story here. Anyone that is on Karens G’s email list, feel free to email me from there.

I have sent an e-mail to Mr. Stephen Harper, Prime Minister, on the detestable topic, asking that Richelieu be shut down. The Canadian politicians are on their summer break so I’m not holding my breath, it will be interesting to see if I get any response. Have a great weekend everyone and stay cool.
Barbara Grimaldi
Terry: weasel is such a perfect description of virtually all politicians. And I tell my friends and neighbors that these jokes come from an animal rights colleague who writes jokes for Letterman, has a heart as big as Cincinnati and is a perfect team player. I says ’em like I sees ’em!!!!
Have to say how proud I am to be part of this group.
Love, hugs and high high hooves to all!

Zenny, thank you for another wonderful post. We are sure good luck will always be with your John. He is a class act as are all his peeps at Barn 55. We pray for his mom to regain her health soon.
Maybe a cool breeze will blow your way this weekend. Standing under a good old shade tree sure sounds grand. Mind if we stand with you? ;-)

I have been involved in animal rescue for years. Unfortunately Zenyatta’s owners are the exception, not the rule. The Mosses and the Sherrifs are wonderful people. What happened to Deputy Broad is being repeated world over. Racing whether it’s horses or greyhounds is a business. If an animal doesn’t perform, they are a liability and these people have not heart or conscience about sending them to slaughter. Anyone who thinks different still lives in the fairytale world. Until enforcement of the no race horse to slaughter is enforced with still fines and jail time, nothing will happen. Hope all the heartless profiteering owners, trainers, middlemen and slaughter houses etc get what’s cooming to them and they rot in whatever passes for hell.RIP Deputy Broad and all the horses who never had a chance to have a second career.

@Barbara Wood: Teacher is putting a huge gold star on the board for all the homework you’ve gotten done! Wow!
@All You Overachievers: I’m embarrassed, but now it’s the weekend and time for me to catch up on all the action items I can’t do at work! Love all of you! Proud to be part of you!
@Zenny and Dottie and Team Z: I for one will understand if whatever action you take or do not take is kept low key, discrete, and behind the scenes. That is why YOU have an ARMY. In your honor, I do not mind making a total fool of myself if I can save one horse, one dog, one cat or one other creature from cruelty and needless death.

Dear Laura J.:
That is strange. Maybe some innocent person sees it and posts and it starts all over again. Well, we are trying to help at Valley View and they do need us now. Hugs, J.B.

Feel Better Mary Jane !!
Good evening St. Zenyatta,
are you drinking plenty of that good water?
Be hoggish infront of the fan!!
Have a restful night and peppermint dreams

@Barbara Grimaldi-Soft pedal that reference to Cincinnati. Jerry Springer used to be mayor there.

I am sorry, but I do NOT think that it is “the rule” in horse racing to slaughter a horse that does not win. Yes, it does happen all too frequently, but it is NOT the rule.I agree the Mosses and the Shirreffs are very, very exceptional people, however, most owners/trainers Do (YES DO) have their horses interest at heart and love them with all their hearts. I also take issue with comments Jean made about horse racing being a sick sport…..I am on the record as greatly supporting and working tirelessly to end horse slaughter, but people check your facts please. Remember I did everything but beg someone to start a site and take this elsewhere. I literally told over ten people today to watch out…..some people would try to turn this beautiful site into a anti-horse racing not anti-slaughter…..careful who you team up with……Dottie’s birthday is in 4 days. This is her birthday weekend….Do you really think she wants to read about how awful the sport she loves is?….the sport she and her husband have made their living on most of their lives trashed? Please show some respect…..and I beg of you tomorrow continue this fight somewhere else..the PETA types are smelling blood here….tell me where to go and I am with YOU!…just not here ….please 2 days non-stop is just too much….this is a place of sanctuary and JOY…

@all; this is really so troublesome to me. I just can not believe a race horse who did not achieve would be sent or sold for slaughter. I realize that horse racing is a very expensive sport. If one races them, they should also be responsible for them when they no longer race to see that they find another avenue and home. These creatures are the most beautiful of all. I have read Mary Johnsons post and I am in awe of her persuit for justice for Deputy. It is hard enough to hear of those race horses that have such an injury due to racing that they must be put down. This breaks my heart. In this case it is the humane thing to do. Slaughter is so revolting and cruel, demeaning and barbaric to the horse. I must be niaeve as I can not believe that a human being can just dump a horse like that. I wish to think that the majority in the sport do truly care for the horses they race and hold to their responsibilities. Thank you all for your efforts.

@ To my Z family. I will not go to Mountaineer again. I am so upset about Depty Broad. To think I wanted to work at the back part of the track to be around the horses. I guess I am so naive. I just can’t imagine anyone being so cruel.
@ I will pray for John’s mother to get well soon. God Bless,

@Judy B and Laura J and Z fans:
I mentioned and addressed Laura when William posted
That it was a repeat from February 2011 and all horses
Were adopted. It seems that someone is trying
To stir up the adoption, rescue and slaughter issue on
This site with repeatedly at least 3 to 5 times posting in
Different names. Not sure what the purpose is other than
Every one on this site truely loves horses.

@ Can someone let me know if they are coming to WV to petion on behave of Depty
Broad? I live 25 miles from Mountaineer. Thanks.

Well said. There are many aspects of sports that
Are unpleasant, but there are so many good things
To. People are people and we can’t change them
We can educate them and help them learn other
Was to deal with their frustrations. This website and Z
Life is so very positive and we also need to look
At that part ad well. Horses are gifts to us from
God precious delicate creatures that will give their
Heart to a human and go to great lengths to please
Us. Please keep in mind the wonders of these creatures.

@ Kari Bussell
I’m glad you enjoyed the poem.
Actually, it’s it 2nd posting. I re-posted it because I thought the picture of St. Zee in the meadow with the mist rising and the trees still obscure expressed my sentiments. Except for the fly mask, how un-magical. Haha
Having been in rescue for a long time, not horses, but dogs & cats, you learn to really cut through the bs and there’s plenty. Especially from Public Servants, it all depends on which mode they’re running on, for re-election, newbee, facing retirement(those guys have nthg to lose, they might actually do sthg)/or actually tell you the truth. Good luck
Kari Bussell
@Shari Voltz- you in no way hurt my feelings….I honestly was not in any way referring to what you and most others posted.I was referring to those who are attacking the sport with complete error and unfairness. I am one of the one’s that chimmed in to get this ball rolling …it just nedds to roll on to another place and continue to gain strentgh….and not become the main topic here day after day….yesterday many agreed with that…Does anyone really disagree with me that we can not let this become a anti horse racing site for very obvious reasons…..I for one love the sport, but loath the bad ones….

For those who would like to end the day with an Evening Prayer/Hymn:
……………………………..
Abide with us; the orb of day doth vanish;
Thou Light of Light, the powers of darkness banish:
At evenfall, good Lord, thy people bless;
Shine in our hearts, thou Sun of righteousness.
For this past day let every creature living
Ascribe thee glory, honour and thanksgiving:
Let man, together with the Angels blest,
Thank God the Father and all His rest.
Good Shepherd, thou who never sleepest,
But o’er thy sheepfold watch and ward who keepest;
The day is spent; it draws to eventide:
With thy disciples, Lord, this night abide.

Zenyatta, it’s been a year ago, you race at Del Mar for 18th win. You marvel the crowd with your dance in the paddock and they loved it. Zenyatta you know how to perform even on the race track for number 18. Lots of xoxoxoxoxoxox from Southern California.
Kari Bussell
@Sunny Boyd- I don’t like your poem, I sincerely LOVE it. I wrote it down and I have read it over and over. I want to have it printed and hang on my wall with all my Z photos if that is okay with you. I will list you as the author….I have also worked in rescue and I am a news/political junkie. We agree a more than I have stated here. I don’t trust them much myself and I do agree enlightenment is the only permanent answer.
DJ
TC: your welcome..thank you.

@DJ- How do you always know the perfect prayer to chose for the night….thank you precious soul..! Obviously I need that!
