Good morning everyone,
I hope you have had a very nice week. I have. It has been quite relaxing and peaceful here at Lane’s End.
Right before my team left Barn 55 for the summer (remember they had to take everything out for the every other year cleaning process) a friend of Anita’s (John’s sister) came to visit the barn.
He is an artist named Pema. He brought John a lovely piece which is meant to bring ‘good luck’. What a very sweet gesture on his part! Many thanks to him. For people in racing…luck is a very precious consideration!
In looking over the entries for this weekend…..the races look to be very exciting. Again, as seems to be the case during the summer seasons, there are quite a few major stakes races running around the country. They have definite implications as far as the road to the Breeders Cup is concerned.
David is currently at Saratoga for the next few weeks working. They have a yearling sale there next week. He also enjoys the opportunity to visit with the other horses he has purchased for clients and see the ones that have grown up from the matings he has planned for their owners. It is always so much fun to touch base. We horses….are like his dear friends!
Sarah will also be going to Saratoga to work for a few weeks. This is great news as Dottie has asked her to get some ‘fun photos’ from that venue for us to share with you in the diary. This will be so special to get an up to the minute report on the Saratoga happenings from these two people we know so well.
I’m off to stay cool under one of my favorite trees. Have a splendid weekend…enjoy the great racing…drink lots of water to stay hydrated….and most of all enjoy your time with your family and friends.
With love,
Hugs to all~ (especially my John’s mom, Mary Jane, who is truly not feeling well at this time)

@All. Just another note about saveamericashorses.org. It shows Jane Velez Michell as a member. I think this has been mentioned in a previous diary. It’s definitely worth it to contact her as well as Nancy Grace, I think.

@Sharon Call– Yes, I was going to contact Jane Velez-Mitchell, but on the HLN website, she didn’t have any contact info that I saw. That’s why I asked that Nancy Grace pass it off to someone else if she couldn’t do it. If you can find JVM’s contact info., I’ll write her as well.
@Marilu V.–thank you, but I’m just following up on what others say and trying to keep up. If I hear anything in response to my inquiries, I”ll post here (pretty clueless about how Facebook works, but I do have a page).
Have to go spend time with my dogs–will check out the website saveamericashorses later.
I’m sensing a coming together for the common good here.

I have been checking our the slughter facility in Canada tha DB was taken to. If you guys only knew. It is owned privately by a group in MAss. If you trackk it down and backdoor enough it shows the oroducts tehy sell in teh US. Boycott ALL of these products. We ahve to hit all of them where it hurts. SO we shut down slaughter here and they buy a facility in Canada.
Yes, I have had to deal with our Dear Senator Cornyn before. Now get this people this man has his campaign pics taken on the back of guess what, right a horse. What a scum bag. I filled in L Graham and M LAndreu because this man is one gigantic Repub jerk.
TRY AND CHECK OUT THE SLUGHTER FACILITY AND LETS HIT THEM IN THE POCKET BOOK.

@DJ, Judy Berube and Kari Bussell-Here is today’s joke-The Lone Ranger is riding into town when he finds Tonto lying across the middle of the road with his head pressed closely against the ground. The Ranger reins up Silver and leans down to ask Tonto what the matter is. “stagecoach passed through about half-hour ago,” said Tonto. “How can you tell?”, asked the Ranger. “Broke my neck,” replied Tonto. Here is a bonus joke-Looks like we could use it. Reporter-“so you are 100 years old. How did you manage to live so long?” Old man: “Well, son, I got married when I was 21. The wife and I decided that if we had arguments, the loser would take a long walk to get over being mad. I suppose I have benefited most by 79 years of fresh air.” @Barbara Grimaldi-More senior song titles. You’re so varicose vein; You make me feel like napping; I heard it through the grape nuts; and last, but not least, Staying alive.

Love it!

Pema’s “good luck” artwork looks beautiful! What a kind thing to do. You are so right, Zenyatta—there are some critcally important and very exciting races planned for this weekend, one of which is the Clement Hirsch Stakes, which is a race so close to my heart (and yours, too, I bet). I will never forget your thrilling win in last year’s edition, and shall carry the memory of that day for the rest of my life. It was so extraordinarily special—in so many ways. Although I worry that the distance is a tad short for her liking, I hope that the exquisite Zazu will follow in your hoofprint and carry the Moss’ silks into the WInners’ Circle once again. That would be so fitting, and should she win, I wonder if that would set some kind of record for consecutive wins by the same owner in a stakes (at least at Del Mar)? Something for our historians to check. I am really looking forward to Sarah’s reports from Saratoga—-how great! Like having our own special on-the-scene roving reporter! Lastly, and most importantly, prayers for Mr. Shirreffs mother. How well I can relate to such a deep concern at this particular time. Blessings to all of the family. Only a truly remarkable woman could have raised a man the likes of John Shirreffs.

Love the idea of contacting Nancy Grace, I’d like to see Danny Bird try to ‘take care’ of Nancy Grace. That’d send him sniveling to a corner never to be heard of again.
Gary Moulton, thanks for reposting Mary Johnsons post. Sure hope to see u on TV at the WV Derby.

@ALL> Bloodhorse ran an article today about Mountaineer and their financial status and expanding their operation in Ohio. I promptly went to Bloodhorse’s facebook page and wrote a BIG comment about MTR’s so-called 2008 adoption of an anti-slaughter rule and how it certainly has not been enforced. I called upon Bloodhorse and asked if they were interested in finding out more about this and also call for support for SB1187. For those of you that can get into facebook, perhaps you would like to do something similar. Publications like this carry some clout in the horse industry and are read by many.

I hope John’s mom feels better, yes this weekend is going to be a good weekend to bet on, good luck to all, and to you my dear Zenyatta enjoy your weekend with all your friends, love you, Ingrid.

Went to the Save America’s Horses site and it seems old–not updated. Curious. Here is a site that I am exploring…you may never have heard of them before, but these lawyers are dedicated to justice for animals:

Terry, you are the only one I read on my computer who makes me laugh out loud!!!! Today’s songs were also terrific, and Staying Alive is one of my favorite tunes–that album was played in NYC discos that I frequented a hundred years ago! You should be a free lance comedy writer!!!!

Looks like the “piece” that Pema brought John for good luck is a Tibetan Buddhist Thangka, a painted silk/fabric wall hanging. It usually depicts a goddess that is known to bring good luck. This is very cool! It’s so wonderful to see how broad- reaching Barn 55’s good vibes are!

Thank you for another wonderful message today, Zenyatta and Dottie. And thank you also to JAG for the link to the candles – even though I’ve seen stuff about the candles for a long time, I guess I never knew enough of how to get there so now I was able to light a candle for John’s mother, Mary Jane. Our mothers we hold so dear so I do wish his mom a speedy recovery. My best wishes to all.

@Nancy
The story about the 52 throughbreds is very, very old from last fall.
All those horses were already placed.
Please ignore and tell others the problem was solved.
Thanks for your concern!

Wishing a speedy ‘get well’ to Mary Jane. What a special lady you are to have raised such a wonderful son.

@Barbara Grimaldi. At first, I thought the same thing about Save Americas Horses. Then I dug a little deeper and saw that they are showing their documentary currently in as many places as they can.
@ALL. I just e-mailed Jane Velez-Mitchell calling for her help with Mountaineer and specifically, Danny Bird. I also called on her to help raise awareness of SB1187. I left my e-mail address and phone number and will let you know if I hear anything back. Jane Velez-Mitchell is a member of Save Americas Horses.

As one without their mother for so long, I do appreciate how special it is to still have yours…know that we all are praying and wishing her a speedy recovery, and that HIS HEAVENLY GRACE is giving off Angel Light to glow from within to strength her faith and heal with HIS LOVE…. Believe….

You have a good weekend too. I hope that John’s mother,Mary Jane,is feeling better.
I like to own things that bring me good luck also. What are some of the things that bring you or have brought you good luck? I like butterflies and cardinals.
I enjoy reading about all that you have doing. Hugs.
