Good morning everyone,
I hope you have had a very nice week. I have. It has been quite relaxing and peaceful here at Lane’s End.
Right before my team left Barn 55 for the summer (remember they had to take everything out for the every other year cleaning process) a friend of Anita’s (John’s sister) came to visit the barn.
He is an artist named Pema. He brought John a lovely piece which is meant to bring ‘good luck’. What a very sweet gesture on his part! Many thanks to him. For people in racing…luck is a very precious consideration!
In looking over the entries for this weekend…..the races look to be very exciting. Again, as seems to be the case during the summer seasons, there are quite a few major stakes races running around the country. They have definite implications as far as the road to the Breeders Cup is concerned.
David is currently at Saratoga for the next few weeks working. They have a yearling sale there next week. He also enjoys the opportunity to visit with the other horses he has purchased for clients and see the ones that have grown up from the matings he has planned for their owners. It is always so much fun to touch base. We horses….are like his dear friends!
Sarah will also be going to Saratoga to work for a few weeks. This is great news as Dottie has asked her to get some ‘fun photos’ from that venue for us to share with you in the diary. This will be so special to get an up to the minute report on the Saratoga happenings from these two people we know so well.
I’m off to stay cool under one of my favorite trees. Have a splendid weekend…enjoy the great racing…drink lots of water to stay hydrated….and most of all enjoy your time with your family and friends.
With love,
Hugs to all~ (especially my John’s mom, Mary Jane, who is truly not feeling well at this time)

Well, Mikey clearly lucked out by having the more experienced and better horse as the racing media predicted in beating Chantal’s horse today. It was noted she was more gracious during the pre- race interview saying she will probably learn something from Mike whether she wins or loses. He, however, said he will “take out a knife if necessary” to win. Too bad. Zenyatta’s legacy deserves better. He said he was raised too respect women,but… He was arrested on drunk driving charges recently. Clearly, he has issues to deal with in his personal life as we all do.

@ signofthetimes – Yes I’m in Canada – Fort Erie, where the Prince of Wales is run, just across the Niagara river from Buffalo. Today the TV coverage was the Breeder’s Stakes from Woodbine won by Pender Harbor. You’re right about Curlin and Rock Hard Ten, they’re very handsome boys and both of them loved the peppermints I gave them at LE.

Congratulations to YOUR Mike winning the match race today. Afterward they hugged and he said he simply had the better horse on this day……ALWAYS the gentlemen. Chantel seemed very nervous, but nice throughout. Glad everyone was safe.

@Kari Bussell-Wasn’t No biz like show biz running in the triple crown races a few years back?
Jan
Just to stress before I get blasted by fellow “Z” fans, this is no reflection on any of Moss connections at all. Everyone has a separate personal life and work ethic even if we excel in our careers.

@ Barbara Grimaldi – I’m not on Karen’s or Diana’s list. I’ve been away for several days and I’m interested in the website you’ve created. I like to help out but I don’t necessarily want to post my contact info. I will though, if needed. You’re correct about Saratoga; you have to book rooms well in advance. Fortunately, I’m close enough to Saratoga that I don’t need to stay overnight. If you do go on the 26th and the 27th, be sure to arrive early – it can be a zoo up there and decent parking can be hard to find. If you have the time, it’s worthwhile going to the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame. There’s also the Bobby Frankel division of Old Friends that not too far away from the racetrack. I’ve never been there, but will probably make a trip up there before the Spa closes for the year. Here’s a link to their website: http://oldfriendscabincreek.com/home.php.

Dearest Zenyatta how was your day? I hope you stayed dry. I saw the storms hit your area this morning but I know your in good hands at LE. I had a really hard day. Did you hear me call your name? Well sweet girl I have shed enough tears to fill the Ohio River. I feel better now and was so happy to see Mike win. I think he is just AWESOME. The 5th graders or should I say 6th graders know all about Mike. He is one of the greatest Jockeys that ever lived. I mean only the best would be riding the Queen. I have shown that video of you with Mike and the camera showing how it felt to ride you and the children could not believe how fast you were going. I told them I would have fallen off :) Well Zenny have a good night with sweet peppermint dreams. Thank you for always listening to me even if it is only in my heart. Sending you Many Hugs and Many Kisses, Shari XXXOOO
@ Judy thank you for thinking of me. It was very hard and I mean hard. Sending you a BIG HUG :)
DJ
To Shari V: Tears are healing…E.P. for your intentions tonight. God bless you!

@Jag
Hardly. Did you watch the pre-race interview interview w/ Mike on TVG? I was shocked at his less then gentleman attitude toward Chantal. This reflects the still bias at women jockeys today. He was simply saying the appropriate thing on camera. I know the difference as a female. It is very frustrating when all you ask for is sincere respect.

For those who would like an Evening Prayer/Hymn:
………………………………..
O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast
And our eternal home;
Beneath the shadow of your throne
Your people have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is your arm alone,
And our defense is sure.
Before the hills in order stood,
Or earth received her frame,
From everlasting you are God,
To endless years the same.
A thousand ages in your sight
Are like an evening gone,
Short as the watch that ends the night
Before the rising sun.
Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
Bears all its sons away;
They fly forgotten, as a dream
Dies at the opening day.
O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Be now our guide while life shall last,
And our eternal home.
………………………………..

@Kari Bussell: Darn, Kari, unfortunately, I cannot get the link which you so kindly posted to come up. But thank you so much for always thinking of us, and trying to spread some joy into our lives. Until the 12th of Never.
@judy berube: I feel as if I am now in hugs heaven! Thank you so much, and hugs x 3 in return!
@Trina Nagele: Your always kind words and generous spirit are a blessing on this site. Thank you so much for brightening my day, and I cannot wait to meet you in-person. Hugs to you, too.
@Charlotte Farmer: The memories of gallant little Brown Bess came flooding back when I recently read of her death. She was 850 pounds of heart, and I loved her.
@Diana S: Thank you for remembering Brown Bess.
@Terry Cross: Your jokes never fail to make me smile. The comment about your daughter made me smile even more. I am looking forward to meeting you at the most beautiful racetrack on earth.
I look forward to the day when we Dumplings pool together as a syndicate to purchase our own horse! Perhaps we could have a pierogi or a pot-sticker or something on our silks. John Shirreffs would train, of course, and Sophie could be our mascot. (In case you were wondering, I promise that I have NOT be drinking!)
Barbara Wood
@Shari Voltz– sending you hugs.
@JAG–thanks for the match race link
Charlotte Farmer
@Abigail in Montreal – British Pathe can be a tricky little thing. I checked into what it would cost to get a copy of the 1948 Epsom Derby with *Noor. As I remember it was around $80.00 for the not quite 2 minutes of film.
@Terry Crow – The Invaders with Roy Thinnes. That was a really good science fiction thriller. My favorite Burt Lancaster movie is The Hallelujah Trail. I never laughed as hard as I did at that movie. It had a very young Martin Landau in it. Way before his Mission Impossible days.
@Devora and Cynthia – I was finally able to access *Noor’s Facebook leaving a post. It took me long enough to figure it out. Duh! Once again thank you for doing that for my boy.
@Brown Bess – Finding out that Brown Bess was there at Harris Ranch gave me chills as that was one of the places that I intended to approach to see if they would be interested in receiving *Noor’s remains. Also interesting is that *Noor died at age 29 and so did she.

To JAG: Thank you so much for posting the ‘match race!’

To TC: So Funny!! Thank you! and unfortunately so true :)

I hope and pray that John Shirreffs’ mother is improving.

Good eevening Queen Z, what a fabulous weekend of racing. Zazu ran an incredible race. She nearly pulled off a win against the older gals. She is one to watch in the future. Turbulent Decent was unbelievable pulling away from the field.
K. Russell thanks for sharing that darling birthday video for Dottie. IT was a hoot!
B. Giraldi thanks for the site. I hope we can put it to some good use.
Sorry for any typos my husband is becoming suspicious and just had to sit on my cell phone In front of the w TV with him. (Something I hate doing) I spent so much time on my computer in our home office I guess an hour will do. One would think after 33 years of marriage he would welcome my disappearing.
Sleep wel Penny and little penny.
Hugs and kisses
Jackie
Barbara Wood
@Cynthia H–what a great idea–the Dumplings owning a horse. Too fantastic for words. Of course one of the owners would have to have a farm so we could retire him or her there.
Good night, Sweet Z. We love you always and wish you pleasant Bluegrass dreams.
JT
@DJ
Please do not be offended dear. Your sermons and prayers each day are mainly meant to satisfy your needs not some of ours. Dottie created this as a Zenyatta and horse industry site. Being supportive, nurturing and positive is expected. We all enjoy sharing how these wonderful animals and Z has enriched our lives and heled us through tough times. A simple God Bless is fine. Paragraphs of your religious beliefs is presumptive and takes advantage of why most people visit here. I am saying this being spiritual myself. But I would not put a daily inspirational long messege for others to sift through here just by itself. What’s the point? We all already have decided on our own beliefs which are personal. Thank you.

Good evening St. Zee
haha your Mikey rode a good race. He and his horse bolted outta there like bats outta hell. Good going Mr. Smith.
Hope you had a cooler day, and are feeling chippey.
Have a restful night and sweet dreams
Cynthia H.
@Barbara Wood: Absolutely! Daydream are fun—-and free!
Cynthia H.
Make that “daydreams” (have MANY!).
DJ
To JT: Im not offended! Thank you.

Abigail I was able to watch Phar Lap race and other links worked on Z’s website. I also watched the match race via the website Cal Racing which is free to sign up. Del Mar Racetrack has a free website too with video replays and other interesting information for those of you who aren’t close enough to visit. I’m glad the match race is over and all are safe.
I hope John’s Mom is feeling better and that you had a good weekend Ms. Z. Does Bernie “Skype” with you?
Take care and Happy Monday tomorrow
DJ
To JT: and if you would like to, I can discern whether to read it..I have custody over my eyes :)
