Good morning everyone,
I hope you have had a very nice week. I have. It has been quite relaxing and peaceful here at Lane’s End.
Right before my team left Barn 55 for the summer (remember they had to take everything out for the every other year cleaning process) a friend of Anita’s (John’s sister) came to visit the barn.
He is an artist named Pema. He brought John a lovely piece which is meant to bring ‘good luck’. What a very sweet gesture on his part! Many thanks to him. For people in racing…luck is a very precious consideration!
In looking over the entries for this weekend…..the races look to be very exciting. Again, as seems to be the case during the summer seasons, there are quite a few major stakes races running around the country. They have definite implications as far as the road to the Breeders Cup is concerned.
David is currently at Saratoga for the next few weeks working. They have a yearling sale there next week. He also enjoys the opportunity to visit with the other horses he has purchased for clients and see the ones that have grown up from the matings he has planned for their owners. It is always so much fun to touch base. We horses….are like his dear friends!
Sarah will also be going to Saratoga to work for a few weeks. This is great news as Dottie has asked her to get some ‘fun photos’ from that venue for us to share with you in the diary. This will be so special to get an up to the minute report on the Saratoga happenings from these two people we know so well.
I’m off to stay cool under one of my favorite trees. Have a splendid weekend…enjoy the great racing…drink lots of water to stay hydrated….and most of all enjoy your time with your family and friends.
With love,
Hugs to all~ (especially my John’s mom, Mary Jane, who is truly not feeling well at this time)

For those who would like to begin the day with a Morning Prayer/Hymn:
………………………………….
They come, God’s messengers of love,
They come from realms of peace above,
From homes of never-fading light,
From blissful mansions ever bright.
They come to watch around us here,
To soothe our sorrow, calm our fear:
Ye heavenly guides, speed not away,
God willeth you with us to stay.
But chiefly at its journey’s end
‘Tis yours the spirit to befriend,
And whisper to the willing heart,
“O Peaceful soul, in peace depart.”
To us the zeal of angels give,
With love to serve thee while we live;
To us an angel-guard supply,
From all above and all below
Let joyful praise unceasing flow.

@ Baby Results – Sorry I’m late with Results. I didn’t get home till almost sunrise. ———– 08-06-11
.
SARATOGA –
Race 2 & 3 – In the first half of the Baby Double I wasn’t even close. “Sabercat” was up in the mix for a half mile then faded to 8th, “Gavett” ran last all the way around. In the second half of the Double, “Grandpa Len” ran a respectable race and finished 4th at almost 35-1. “A Single Man” was never in it although he made up a couple of lengths at the end and finished 7th. The time was poor in this race. -$8.00
.
Race 6 – “Silent Thunder” won it and paid $14.20. “Pure Grit” finished 4th by a nose and came from far back. “Howie and the Cat” was up with the pace for 3/8’s and then fell back to 6th. They finished 1st, 4th, & 6th -$6.00
.
DEL MAR –
Race 6 –“Gun Boat” won it at 12-1, how the public could let that horse go off at that price I’ll never know. It was a very good time for the
youngsters. “Chickie Charms” ran a pretty bland race, he was mid pack all the way and finished 5th. Chickie looks to be a herd horse. “Midnight Con” was never in it and finished 8th. I can’t wait to see who comes back from this one. Babies finished 1st, 5th, & 8th -$6.00
.
-$20.00 Today +$320.20 Going into tomorrow.

@Me – I never made it to the track. I left the house a little before 1:00 pm and I got pulled over just south of Waynesburg, Pa. on Interstate 79n about a mile past the rest area by a Pennsylvania State Trooper around 3:00 pm. He took my info and went back to his car. About 10 mins. went by and two black GMC Suburbans and a black Lincoln pulled up. The Trooper put me in the back of his car and someone drove my truck. They took me to a State Maintenance Area about 30 miles south of the rest stop. A place where the salt and sand domes are and a place where State Work Trucks are kept. Me and the Trooper just sat in a white office trailer while about a dozen FEDS stood around outside laughing, joking, drinking coffee, and just playing till about 10 pm. You are talking 7 hrs they detained me with no charges except a possible traffic ticket that they never gave me. They tried to feed me, they offered me some fast food but I wouldn’t take it. I did drink two cokes in a can that I opened, and they let me go to the bathroom. Then the head fed called to the Trooper and he brought me out in the lot. The fed in charge handed me my keys and the rest of my stuff, told me to go home and cool out and then he said “Remember we are watching.” Before I could get in my truck and put everything back in order, I looked up and they were all were gone. I have no idea what happened at Mountaineer except for the results. I’ve had run-ins with them before and they know what I’m all about, on the other hand, I know what they are all about too. I hope this post of this true story, so help me GOD, pisses them off. We need to draw fire to see who the real enemy is and where they are coming from. I know that EVIL is the enemy but we need to make them show themselves!

There are two tiny tots at the Spa, race 2, and race 8, because of the off track I will pass today. At Del Mar there are three tiny tots, race 2, race 6, & race 8 (Best Pal Stakes). If the odds go below 2-1 on any WIN bets I make at 2 minutes to post I will pass the race and void the bet. Sorry Z I don’t have a Baby box today.

To Gary M: I am sorry! That is just awful! What a horrible day you had. I don’t understand how they can get away with that, with no charges or violations!!

I have meant to share this site with those of you who love old racing footage. It is called British Pathe & you can just Google the name, go to the site, and register (for free). When you register, you can save the footage you really like to your “Watchbox” and view it as many times as you like. It’s essentially old British newsreel footage. Many of the horses are British, but there are a few from North America and elsewhere.
SORRY to do this in such an odd fashion but for whatever reason, our site wouldn’t let me post everything at once!

OKAY…why am I “awaiting moderation”????
APOLOGIES for what will probably be “post overkill” if all of my other (failed) attempts come up later!!!!!
Barbara Grimaldi
GARY!!!!!!! What in creation is this about? They know you are an activist for horse welfare? You know how new I am here, so others may know but I do not. If it’s too sensitive, pardon my blunder. That was a scary experience that makes no sense to me…
EVERYONE: final tweaks happening now…you will have the site tonight, but not published here…by email only through authentic Z-fan lists, if possible. That’s best for your interests, our interests. More later…

A friend of mine on facebook commented on another horseracing friend’s page that she was “going in for her kidney transplant on Tuesday, and will be clutching Zenyatta’s picture as she goes under”…I hope you are checking this page and please, please contact me….having something from Zenyatta would mean the WORLD to this woman (her name is Catherine). Please contact me via my email address if you can help us give her the gift of hope from Zenyatta.
Valley View Ranch Equine Rescue
It must have been late when I updated the rescue website. I noticed this morning that it hadn’t posted. It has now been officially posted. Thank you all and the little Z. If Zenyatta is due any time near March 11th, Marlene is a good name. That’s my Birthday.
Have a great day.

Love you Zenyatta and GO ZAZU!!! You did great against those older fillies and mares. My husband said you look like you enjoy having someone to eyeball you – I agree.

@Kari Bussell-Enjoyed all of your posts and agree. @Cynthia H-Every time you post about your father I call my daughter. Looking forward to seeing you at SA @Judy Berube-How is Russ doing? Today’s joke-This is one that I told to the dumplings at HP on Gold Cup Day. Some expressed surprise at the punchline, though it would be something else. I’ll post another later. A teacher had been bringing in various foods fore her third grade class to taste and try to guess what the foods were. One week was devoted to exotic types of meat. The class successfully identified buffalo, rabbit and rattlesnake. The teacher then decided to bring in some venison, or deer meat. The kids ate the meat, and no one could identify it. The teacher then said, “I’ll give you a hint. It is what your mother sometimes calls your father.” “Don’t eat it,” screamed a little boy, “it’s jackass.” Use your imagination as to what answers the dumplings came up with.

@Catherine Uher—I am SO HAPPY to hear that your transplant is scheduled for Tuesday. Your friends here have had you in our thoughts and prayers low these many months and are thrilled with this good news. Keep Zenny in your thoughts, and she will be beside you in spirit, as will we. We pray with you that all goes well for you and for your dear, dear donor. Blessings to you both.
@Deb Morris—Catherine Uher has many, many friends here on Zenyatta’s website. Thank you for letting us know that her kidney transplant will occur on Tuesday, and please keep us updated here if you can.

@ PEGGY ONE – Where did that come from? I simply reposted a link trying to reach as many fans as possible. I believe that it will take the fans to make a difference. I am a bad person for trying to make a difference and reach the fans?

Dear Barbara Grimaldi:
I’m so sorry. Shouldn’t have asked that question. I noted in an earlier post yesterday of yours that you will e-mail the name of your site. I have been going over this in my own mind and I really feel that this site, Z’s site, should not be used for anything except celebrating Z, her Team and her wonderful Fans. I’m glad there will be a separate site to go to regarding the other very important matter. Hugs, J.B.
judy berube
Dear Terry Crow:
You are a breath of fresh air to this wonderful place every day. Very funny joke. Russ is the same. Doing as well as he can. Thank you for asking. Hugs, J.B.

To Catherine U.:
Wishing you the best. Hugs, J.B.
