Good morning everyone,
I hope you have had a very nice week. I have. It has been quite relaxing and peaceful here at Lane’s End.
Right before my team left Barn 55 for the summer (remember they had to take everything out for the every other year cleaning process) a friend of Anita’s (John’s sister) came to visit the barn.
He is an artist named Pema. He brought John a lovely piece which is meant to bring ‘good luck’. What a very sweet gesture on his part! Many thanks to him. For people in racing…luck is a very precious consideration!
In looking over the entries for this weekend…..the races look to be very exciting. Again, as seems to be the case during the summer seasons, there are quite a few major stakes races running around the country. They have definite implications as far as the road to the Breeders Cup is concerned.
David is currently at Saratoga for the next few weeks working. They have a yearling sale there next week. He also enjoys the opportunity to visit with the other horses he has purchased for clients and see the ones that have grown up from the matings he has planned for their owners. It is always so much fun to touch base. We horses….are like his dear friends!
Sarah will also be going to Saratoga to work for a few weeks. This is great news as Dottie has asked her to get some ‘fun photos’ from that venue for us to share with you in the diary. This will be so special to get an up to the minute report on the Saratoga happenings from these two people we know so well.
I’m off to stay cool under one of my favorite trees. Have a splendid weekend…enjoy the great racing…drink lots of water to stay hydrated….and most of all enjoy your time with your family and friends.
With love,
Hugs to all~ (especially my John’s mom, Mary Jane, who is truly not feeling well at this time)

@Mary Copelin- You must have been too busy to read all the posts of the past few days or else you would have seen the post stating: Mary Johnson works and that she flat out does not have time to read ANY comments here….she will be thrilled to receive your e-mail as I feel sure she was to receive mine….
@All – I love you guys and I will one last time attempt to warn you , thus sparing you what I have been going through with some of these groups and INDIVIDUALS….especially if you are on the record stating that you love horse racing….’If you lay down with dogs you will get fleas’…Do your research on everything and every individual you support or else..they WILL turn on you!
while I greatly admire anyone who works to save horses (as do I) …some here have records and public quotes stating what they think should happen to anyone who supports this sport. That is a fact…
@all PLEASE READ (IF I CAN DO LINK CORRECT)

Dear Barbara Wood:
That’s a sweet idea to send a card to Mr. Abrams. Maybe you could just send it to him c/o Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd, Del Mar, Ca. 90214. Maybe they can forward it to him. Hugs, J.B.

thanks for the update Z! You are so thoughtful to remind us to keep hydrated! Never too much reminding on that regard! Take care Z.

Beautiful Queen Zenyatta,
YOUR JOHN’S Mom is in my thoughts and prayers. I hope that she gets better soon.
Glad that you are relaxing and enjoying your retirement.
I am also keeping the horses that have not been as lucky as you in their racing careers in my prayers. I know that you have heard of the fate of Deputy Broad and others like him that have gone to slaughter when they stopped winning races. I pray for a way for them all to have a good retirement and new careers. We must all work together to make this happen.
Love and hugs,
Debi

OK friends, here’s the scoop. I know nothing about constructing websites, HTML and all that jazz. But so many of you are on the front lines and share your lives with horses or horse matters that I felt I had to do something to support you. Well, last night I worked with one site builder for 3 hours. This morning, I worked with that same vendor again for another 3 hours–but the advice was bad and online compatibility did not work. So, back to square one. Tried another site builder. Another two hours shot. No go. Then I tried the third, and the site is all ready to launch and will be up tomorrow night at about 7 PM EST. PLEASE NOTE that Zenny’s diary site is a custom job for mucho buckos. My site will not have as many bells and whistles BUT–it has a unique name, it has a mission statement, and it has blog capability that has a different arrangement. I am so happy I created something online that I will finally have lunch!!! NOW HEAR THIS: Just because I created this alternate site, you don’t have to like it or use it. It’s just a suggested alternative…but I do hope you like it. I’ve read all the comments about how tough this fight is and how mean and powerful our opponents are but together we are stronger than individuals and together as a team we can better support good rescue/rehab groups in our country and fight for protective legislation. My last word for the night (I am so happy to be getting off this Dell!!!) is Terr–I love that joke!!!!!

Dear Zenyatta Hi sweet girl. I hope you had a Great day. Mine was busy. I did not get to go to the races but my dad needed some help and family comes first. That is ok we only have one set pf parents. Tomorrow I will go see my brother who has mental illness. I am really nervous and I pray it goes well. My BBF told me to call her after and believe me I will. She gives me so much support. Larry will be working and it is hard to get him by phone. I wish after I could go to LE and just relax with you under your tree. I could sit and watch you and TT eat. Oh that would be just great. That is what I thank God for all my pictures from Kentucky of the horses I had seen. One of my favorite pictures is of Blame because he was just so very sweet to me. It was like he knew. Like I said he thinks your hot :) And Zenny I still love horse racing and I always will. It brings up such good childhood memeories of my brother and I going to Waterford Park (now called Mountaineer) with my dad. I just loved watching the horses run. My father loved to bet and would get so excited. He would stand up and yell and cheer. My brother and I always got a treat of ice cream or something. It was Fun!! Well my Queen I am going to go eat some popcorn. I love you so much. Hugs and Many Kisses, Shari XXXOOO
@ I am praying for Mary Jane. I hope she is feeling better. God Bless

dear Judy B – Thanks for the link re the Alabama. I’ll be looking for some advice from you and Gary for a box with Inglorious and Ms. Tricky, who would be a good third? I’m going to have a hard time choosing between these two talented girls for a win bet. Vic will be cheering for the girl from Canada.
@ DJ – cocktail hour sounds delightful, will you be having open house for BC 2012?
@ Sharon in Seattle – Positive thoughts and good wishes are on the way from Fort Erie.
More good wishes to Mrs. Shirreffs, John and Dottie, stay strong.

@Kari Bussell–thanks for the link. Guess I’m clueless about who this Alex is.

What’s up with St. Trininans? She is usually not that rambunctious! I spied Dottie in the paddock, but did not see Mr./Mrs. Moss.

@Lucille Ball – How could she be a 100 for it was only seems like yesterday when Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor were on the show. The story revolved around that fabulous diamond that Richard had bought Elizabeth.
I remember Johnny Carson saying that he would never let NBC do to him what CBS did to Lucy i.e. she was pass her prime. Carson reminded the listening audience that Lucy and Desi BUILT CBS.
@Dean Martin’s Variety Hour – There was a show with the Who’s Who of Hollywood and Dean’s very smooth style of singing. He made it all look so easy and in westerns with the Duke, what an actor. These people that call themselves actors now haven’t got a clue what real stars are all about. We have a few with Catherine Zita Jones, Tom Selleck, Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise, and a few others otherwise it is all that reality garbage with people acting as if they were somebody. Enjoy you five minutes of fame for 20 years in the future people will not remember your name for you don’t have the star power. The networks pander to the young and sacrifice quality. Hollywood better sit up and take notice because for every reality show and actors are not working.
@Karen Gogue – I really enjoyed talking with you about the television that we grew up with. Very few realize that actors who starred in Gunsmoke, The Untouchables, Wanted Dead or Alive, Paladin, The Donna Reed Show, and so many others do not get residuals. That wasn’t even thought about back then.
@John Shirreffs – I e-mailed Rocky about your mother and I too hope that she will be fine. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
@Terry Crow – I thank you for always putting a smile on people’s faces. Laughter is the best medicine.
@Maybe I have missed it, has Michael Blowen posted how much money has been received to date on *Noor’s behalf? My boyfriend is slowly getting the box put together. The driftwood stain has been applied and next will be the poly coat. I am still laughing at him as he had originally said it would only take about a week to construct it . . . it is now way over a week.
@Ariadne – You are so terrific about setting up the radio show for Noor. I still say you could have done it, be interviewed instead of me. It gives a different perspective on Noor’s story. It will be interesting to see what happens on the 14th.
@The Hambletonian – Wasn’t it today?
@I Love Lucy – May you reign forever my favorite red head.

Way to go ZAZU- many horses would love to be able to say they came in second in The Clement L. Hirsch Stakes….you ran your heart out…and just ask your big sis…that makes YOU a Champion any day! I love you!…
Cathleen
Hi Zenyatta, did you see Zazu run in the Clement L. Hirsch Stakes? What a great effort by the grey Z, she ran a super race. She dug in and came up just a little short. A valient effort. I’m sure you were proud of her Queen Z. XOXOX

Dear Kari B.:
Ultra Blend was quite a surprise. She came from last and just got up to win. She ran very well. Did you see the race? Zazu was wonderful. Hugs, J.B.
Cynthia H.
Oh, gosh. Tears, tears, tears. I was really emotionally invested in this race. I think Zazu ran phenomenally, considering the fact that she ran against older (very distinguished) mares for the first time, and that the distance is not her optimum. But all credit to Ultra Blend, incredibly tough and almost always overlooked! As Tyler Baze rode her back to the Winners’ Circle, obviously crying, and raised his whip to the heavens “for those who are now gone,” I know he was thinking of his cousin, jockey Michael Baze, immensely talented, who died in May. I was also thinking of someone who is no longer here, except in spirit. Quite a race, wan’t it, Dad?
Zazu is only getting better-and-better! And God bless Tyler Baze and his triumph over serious physical injury. It has taken a year, but he has made it back. I think Zenyatta would be the first to applaud his courage.
