Good morning everyone,
I hope you have had a very nice week. I have. It has been quite relaxing and peaceful here at Lane’s End.
Right before my team left Barn 55 for the summer (remember they had to take everything out for the every other year cleaning process) a friend of Anita’s (John’s sister) came to visit the barn.
He is an artist named Pema. He brought John a lovely piece which is meant to bring ‘good luck’. What a very sweet gesture on his part! Many thanks to him. For people in racing…luck is a very precious consideration!
In looking over the entries for this weekend…..the races look to be very exciting. Again, as seems to be the case during the summer seasons, there are quite a few major stakes races running around the country. They have definite implications as far as the road to the Breeders Cup is concerned.
David is currently at Saratoga for the next few weeks working. They have a yearling sale there next week. He also enjoys the opportunity to visit with the other horses he has purchased for clients and see the ones that have grown up from the matings he has planned for their owners. It is always so much fun to touch base. We horses….are like his dear friends!
Sarah will also be going to Saratoga to work for a few weeks. This is great news as Dottie has asked her to get some ‘fun photos’ from that venue for us to share with you in the diary. This will be so special to get an up to the minute report on the Saratoga happenings from these two people we know so well.
I’m off to stay cool under one of my favorite trees. Have a splendid weekend…enjoy the great racing…drink lots of water to stay hydrated….and most of all enjoy your time with your family and friends.
With love,
Hugs to all~ (especially my John’s mom, Mary Jane, who is truly not feeling well at this time)

@Barbara Grimaldi–sounds good. Would you please let us know when you get it going? If you don’t let us hear on this site, I’m afraid I’ll fall through the cracks.
@J Smith–thanks for the re-post of the Ghandi quote.
Praying all the horses come home safely today and tomorrow.
@the Kennedys–forgot to say thanks for posting the update on Mikey/Chantal.
@Dawn Conrad–you are missed.
@Susan in TN–ditto.

Happy Saturday Queen “Z” and Z Friends. Having lost my mom 8 years ago at a tender young age of 69 was most difficult. Wishing John’s mom a speedy recovery. Cherish each day as if its your last!
I have been so distrubed about the entire matter at Mountaineer and Deputy Broad. It has been so difficult this past week reading the posts and how the system is out of control. The slaughtering of these beautiful creatures needs to be stopped and I have been seriously thinking how we can get involved to stop this from happening. Reading about all the efforts many are putting forward to resuce and save these animals is a tremendous act of kindness and love. WE NEED TO DO MORE!
Now on to todays racing. Although there may be the same silks on ZaZu in the Clement Hirsh it just won’t be the same. I love Switch, but of course will be rooting for ZaZu. Good Luck to All and a Safe Trip.
Should be fun tomorrow at Del Mar with the Battle of the Exes. I have a bright Idea! I realize jockey’s don’t make money like other pro atheletes such as football, basketball and baseball players, but it sure would be nice if Del Mar or even the Jockeys took a small percentage of the proceeds of the winnings or handle tomorrow and donate to equine rescue. Okay, maybe I am dreaming.
To all my Z Friends, go out and enjoy the day.
Hugs and Kisses

Get ready, Southern California Dumplings! It looks really good for BC at Santa Anita in 2012! There is to be a press conference on Wednesday.
I know that I am more or less (actually, more) of an “invisible” person on this site, whose opinion counts for little, but can we PLEASE, remember by whom and why this site was founded? Dottie, I hope your dear John’s mother is doing better today. Prayers are continuing. We all truly appreciate your efforts to keep our connection with Zenyatta alive, and for bringing nothing but joy and LOTS of racing education into our lives (“Once a teacher, always a teacher.”). I hope to see you and (and Maybe Mr. and Mrs. Moss?) and that ethereal gray, Zazu, down in the WInners’ Circle following the Clement Hirsch!

@Kari Bussell-Well said. @Judy Berube-Even when you know, you never know.–Trotter. Not sure when the new thread will begin, so I will post a small joke now. An old woman was arrested for shoplifting at a grocery store. When she appeared before the judge, the judge asked what she had taken. “A can of peaches,” the lady replied. The judge then asked why she had done it. “I was hungry and forgot to bring any cash to the store,” she said. The judge then asked how many peaches were in the can. “Nine,” she replied. The judge then said, “well then, I”m going to give you nine days in jail-one day for each peach.” As the judge was about to drop his gavel, the lady’s husband raised his hand and asked if he might speak. The judge said “Yes, what do you have to add.” The husband said “your honor, she also stole a can of peas.”

Margaret Cross: I’m so glad that Facebook took your post down! Way to go, whoever did that! Before the Breeder’s Cup page turned into what a few are making Zenyatta’s wonderful page. I’ve enjoyed it so much…just a page where people are upbeat and able to converse about horses, foals and helping others to understand the in’s and out’s of racing in some way. I would hate very much for the BC site to be taken over the way this one has the past few days. ENOUGH, for God’s sake! I won’t come here again for these kinds of conversations. I’ve enjoyed this page, daily, but I quit..

@ Abigail from Montreal – Thank you for the links to CHDC I am signing up. I have already sent e-mails to the Prime Minister and my Member of Parliament but question how much good that will do particularly as the PM comes from Alberta and ruffling feathers in Quebec is unlikely.
The only racing on TV today is the standardbreds from the Meadowlands, so I’m hoping for some TB coverage tomorrow.

@ Cynthia H
I NEVER overlook the Mosses horses. Or, any horses in John Shirreffs’ barn 55! I check the program every race day :-D I also look for who Mikey is riding ;-) that’s just a habit of mine LOL

@ Michelle Cross
I read where you wrote that the Breeders’ Cup page on fb removed your posting. This doesn’t surprise me. They are a “separate entity”. If you weren’t aware, this organization is in total control of advertising, etc. for the BC. Did you know when you go for racing on BC day(s) that all of the gift shops are CLOSED! They only allow sales of BC ITEMS!!! Deep pockets!
Kari Bussell
@Terry Crow- Hahahaha!…thank you I for one needed to laugh….and thank YOU.
Kari Bussell
@Susan in Tn. miss you….
@many are awol…hope you guys are okay and return….
